Think most of that was water weight but the number looks good and I'll take it for whatever.

Wow, I'm still up quite a bit from the beginning of the month.  Those 3.8 pounds are going to go (I'll get you my pretty!!!  LOL).  I have some super cool news to share. This past week I got a call from our county fire authority - I made it through the application and medical review process. As of Thursday, I am now officially a Volunteer Firefighter!!!!  I am really excited!  I now get to start hands-on training (lifting hoses, setting ladders, hoisting tools) which will add some new and different "exercise" to my week. Cool

I usually weigh-in in the morning after I wake up; however, I forgot to do that today.  I just came back from a luncheon event and my weight is probably a reflection of the fact that I just ate a meal.

Okay, this was fun while it lasted, but alas, I cannont continue this challenge any longer.

My scale is a piece of garbage, it's readings are all over the place. Honestly, haha, i have no clue what I weigh anymore. According to my scale, I'm somwhere's between 158.5 and 164. So, I gained 14lbs in 2 weeks...wow. I find that really hard to believe because I haven't eaten an extra 3500 calories a day. No way. A lb a day? Amazing. If I'm really gaining weight this quickly, then there is something MAJORLY wrong with me. I'm gonna get my thyroid checked, just cause I'm paranoid, and i refuse to believe that number on the scale. Soooo...I'm not weighing myself for the forseeable future. I can't let it get me down and play mind games on me.

Good luck to everyone else, though. I know you guys can meet your goals!

So, instead of just buying a new scale, you're going to give up altogether?  A broken scale doesn't seem to be a solid excuse for quitting...........

I didn't lose any weight this week; but, all of the Halloween candy I've been eating probably didn't help at all. Embarassed

On my first post, I said that I wanted to do a better job of planning meals and add two days of the gym back into my schedule.  I did come through on #1 - I did a solid job of prepacking healthy lunches and snacks in a cooler/lunch bag I bought.  So, I'm  proud of myself about that.  I'm currently defrosting some ground turkey and some salmon in preparation for this week's meals.

On the other hand, I did not yet add the gym back into my schedule.  To be honest, I intentionally avoided working out last week as I was scheduled for a firefighter physical exam last week.  What does a physical have to do with it? Well, they make firefighter applicants run on a treadmill, on an incline, at top speed while hooked up to heart monitors. I didn't want to risk injuring myself the day before or going into the physical sore from a previous workout.  As luck would have it, the treadmill was broken the day I went in.  I have to go back on Wednesday to do the treadmill portion!  After that, I'll feel less nervous about going to the gym!

Getting back "on the wagon" - have been struggling with problems from my WLS, as well as stress and depression from my "empty nest" experience in September, and more. This is my life and, one year ago today, I pledged to make it better. I did so for a while, then sabotaged myself, so today, I am retaking that pledge to myself. Hopefully, one year from now, I will be able to look back on the year with pride.

You can do it!  Next year, you will be able to look back and think, "I did it! I reached my goals!"

Total monthly weight loss

October has been really awkward for me all around.  It's important to me personally that I take actual action and not just say that "I will try harder next time".  I have some ideas for how to address November.

1) I am going to sit down this weekend and plan out my meals for the week so that I'm not trying to grab random unhealthy items from the 'food court' at work or out of the fridge at 10pm when I get home.  I bought a cooler so that I can pack my entire day's worth of healthy meals and snacks, according to my calorie target, and take it to work.  Once the cooler is empty, so are my opportunities for food. ;)  I'm thinking that, if I'm more diligent with sticking to the calorie intake, I will have a little more success this month.

2) Also, I will aim to add back in at least two days at the gym each week and one day of walking my neighborhood (I love to walk!).  I haven't had the time to go to the gym at all since September and I'll probably have to work back into it.

Those are my two action points!

.....Kelly :)

LOL...it looks like a whole bunch of us are at TTOM at the same time! Tongue out

I dunno...I've been having awkward schedules.  I work M - F 7:30am - 4pm and then on M - W I have EMT school from 5 - 10pm and firefighting on TH from 6-10pm and SUN 12pm-5pm.   So, basically, I eat out of a microwave and fast food places (I try to make responsible choices). Because of this odd schedule, I've not been to the gym since August.  I also just moved and spent hours and hours hefting boxes around, I have to dig through piles just to find what I'm looking for.....

I'm just thinking that I may have to write-off this month and have a "do-over" for November.  Frown

No big deal - I believe it's just about TOM.  Plus, I'm moving to a new place without any help from friends or family.  All week, I've been hefting boxes up and down flights of stairs.  The strenous lifting of boxes and stair climbing has been taxing on me and my body has been asking for extra calories.  So, I'm not particularly worried about this week's weigh-in result.  :)

Sorry for the late start - as I mentioned in the September thread, I was out-of-state at a conference until last night.  So, I missed the final Sept. weigh-in and the start of October.  I didn't eat too terribly during the trip and I walked a TON around town and the conference center.  Yet, I gained four pounds?  Hrm...maybe it's just a result of my body reacting to the busy schedule last week. I'll have to give it another week to see how this all irons out!

Yay! 1.6 pounds this week! Probably not gonna make my goal by Wednesday, but I'll still try my best! Yoga is doing wonders for me. Which is weird, because when I'm doing it I feel like I'm not doing anything at all! But then when i'm done I realize that I'm sweating and my heart is going. Crazy! I think I'm safely out of the 170s for good now. Yay! Looks like everyone else is doing alright too. Glad to know it. Good luck for Wednesday everyone! Keep it up!

~*~Gela~*~

Gela,  For the past year or so, I've been doing ballet and jazz-type dancing at home.  I do it because I just enjoy the artistic expression and because it helps give me a better range of motion in my muscles and joints.  I found that this type of exercise has really helped give me a sleeker, more toned figure.  I imagine that yoga would have a similar effect.  (Kind of like the pilates concepts?)

Good job on making it out of the 170s! We're the same height and about the same weight.  I got stuck in the 170s, and a couple months back, I finally shook free and am now around mid-160s.  Feels good!  So be sure to enjoy your accomplishment!

I'll be at a conference in Texas next week.  I don't think I'll be able to weigh in on the 30th. I'll still be mindful of what I'm eating, but I won't be able to post a final number. Cool

You know,  I came to the realization that I've not been paying enough attention to the plan lately.  You know, putting in some effort....that might help.  LOL

I also went and reviewed my CC settings and I think the calorie targets have been off for a while. Apparently, when you lose weight, you have to go back in and adjust the calculation. It's now telling me that I need to eat a hundred calories less.  Whoops! Maybe that's why I've been coasting on the same numbers?

Alright....I've got to get back in there and start counting every last calorie again now that my targets are different!

Here's an interesting article on Rise, Shine, and Get Some Exercise

One tip given in the article is to, "Get organized. Lay out shoes, socks, and workout clothes the night before to make the morning as easy as possible."

Now, I cannot manage to get myself out of bed early enough to exercise, but I do exercise in the afternoon.  I have found that setting my gym bag by my bedroom door, or leaving my tennis shoes out in the center of my floor, helps remind me of my plan to do some exercise after work. Out of sight, out of mind, right?  So, I agree with this little piece of advice!

Hrm...I'm back up to 166 this morning.  That can't be right; I've been at 164.4 for a while.  I may have to adjust my entry accordingly if something shifts unexpectedly.  My roommate was going on and on at me last night at how good I look these days.  (He wasn't being creepy about it...he was just giving me some feedback.)  He told me that my stomach looks much flatter and that the weight loss is noticable.  Sooo..something must be going right!!

I think the days of losing 5 pounds a week are over me, but so is wearing size 48 pants.  The last half definitely comes off slower than the first half.  No worries.  Time to focus on the exercise and the eating routine for the long term.  Congratulations to so many of you who are posting successes.  Very motivating!

Hi Jeff,

You mentioned the "last half".  May I ask, how much did you weigh when you first started?
