Original Post by eastside:

I wouldn't date a girl with a BMI over 30. The thing is if you eventually marry her, you know that BMI is going to jump up even higher.  If I was interested in personality more, I would just get a dog.

LOL you are soooooooo funny

as long as you're eating healthy, don't worry about it..i don't think your body looks abnormally thin. i have a really thin upper body so my ribs and stuff stick out a lot too (i think even more than yours) so don't feel that bad about it!!

Weight Loss Is there something wrong with me? Nov 14 2007

I'm a little over 5'2" and I weigh around 105 pounds. I don't know how many calories I eat because it's just too hard for me to keep track. But here's about what I ate today:

Breakfast:
-2 pieces of wheat bread
-scrambled eggs with spinach
-some deli turkey slices
-2 glasses of skim milk
-an apple
-around a cup of watermelon

Snack:
-about a cup of cottage cheese
-a big bowl of strawberries and blueberries
-a glass of almond joy

Lunch:
-a container of black bean dip
-an apple
-a cheese sandwich
-a glass of skim milk

Snack:
-plain yogurt with honey
-a glass of almond joy
-a bowl of oatmeal

Dinner:
-a huge salad with a lot of turkey, garbanzo beans, carrots, tomato, cucumber
-a banana
-skim milk
-some bread

Snack:
-a big bowl of oatmeal with blueberries and honey

and I'm probably going to go make a sandwich soon or eat a bran muffin.

This is a typical day. Sometimes I will eat even more if I excercised that day. I usually excercise 2 to 3 times a week on the elliptical for around 40 minutes.

honestly if you diet now by restricting calories you're gonna regret it when you're older and still 5'4". You might not care about your height now but in a few years when most girls and guys are taller than you, theres a pretty big chance that you'll wish you weren't as short. why don't you try playing sports instead? i think that's a much better alternative than calorie restriction.

you could try drinking 2% milk with honey, snack on cheese, eat lots of salmon since it has good fat and lots of protein, eat dark chocolate for dessert. also excercise more because it will help stimulate your appetite and build muscle and muscle is heavier than fat.

Thanks for the advice guys!!! I went to whole foods today and i bought a whole bunch of low fat (white) cheese, including laughing cow ones which i can't wait to try. i LOVE cottage cheese too, but i always thought it was unhealthy because it seems like a processed food? I don't know, but whenever i read the label theres always some weird ingredients like xanathan gum etc it. i was wondering if you guys know anything about that?

andesite, what you say makes a lot of sense. if people with a history of ED's are never going to be satisfied with their body no matter how much they weigh, then i don't think swimchick you should diet because you might end up going overboard. but to address the problem of you not being able to stand the way you look right now, i really think you should try professional therapy. i think it would help relieve you of body image distortions and restructure how you think about yourself in ways that are more healthy/realistic. since you mention that there seems to be problems in your family revolving around food and weight, i think maybe family therapy would really help too.

hey...i can see why others would think that it is bad for you to go on a diet considering your past, and i hope people don't get mad at me for saying this...but i think it is also really important for you to feel comfortable and satisfied with your body. if you can't stand being the way you are/look, it really messes up your self confidence, and that in turn affects a lot of other aspects of your life negatively. so my advice would be to try and lose the 10 pounds if you think that it will make you feel a lot better about yourself. you could maybe approach your diet by eating really low fat and healthy foods and tell your family that you aren't dieting to lose weight, but you are just switching to healthy foods for the sake of your health.
Weight Loss Waking up in the morning ... Nov 11 2007

i've been wondering about that too because i'm always FAMISHED in the morning. sometimes i wake up in the middle of the night because i'm so hungry. i don't know why though!! maybe it has to do with eating style during the day? because i'm constantly eating throughout the day so maybe my body isn't used to a couple hours without food...

Well i guess number-wise my weight is fine, but i think i look heavier than i weigh and that i would look better if i lost some weight. My face, arms, waist, etc. look pretty thin, but not my butt. I work out but that doesn't seem to help much. The only way my butt gets smaller is if i lose weight. And i want my calves to be a little thinner too because in proportion to my thighs they look kind of big.

Even though I never really sit down and eat a meal, I still eat pretty healthy when i graze. I snack on lots of fruit, eat a lot of veggies like broccoli and spinach, love fish and turkey, and eat a lot of healthy cereals and whole grain breads. Beverage wise, i drink a LOT of milk and try to constantly replenish my body with water. I think the only really unhealthy thing that i consume is coffee.

I just don't know how to go about losing these 10-15 pounds because I hate counting calories and it's hard for me with my eating style. And it's also really difficult for me to cut out carbs or starve myself because then i can't concentrate in school. My mom got me these diet pills which make me completely lose my appetite so i guess that would work, but then i think that is kind of unhealthy and will mess up my metabolism. However, if i did use those and excercised a lot to keep my up my metabolism, what do you guys think?

Its good that you're attempting it in a healthy way. Try to eat healthy too. I don't think you should focus on losing weight though, but instead focus on maintating a healthy body. Especially since you're 14 and still growing.

Well, I guess if you feel like dieting/counting calories/working out is taking over your life then maybe you have a problem. Even though you don't need to lose more weight, I really don't see how you're too thin. I'm around the same height and weight and I think it's a pretty normal ratio.

I'm not overweight (I weigh 105 lbs), but whenever I gain weight even just a little weight I feel like I get a lot uglier, which is why I am SO AFRAID of gaining weight. I try to lose weight so that even if I gain a few pounds I won't look fat, hence ugly. I guess part of it is because I feel like if I become fat/ugly I won't really be worth much.

hahah i totally agree with you that not drinking is not an option. i too will purposely not eat on days that i know i'm gonna be drinking a lot, not only cuz i now that alcohol equals a lot of calories but also cuz i get drunk faster lol. plus, when i feel fat i don't feel like going out as much. anyway, for me the best hangover food is sandwich with scrambled egg whites and turkey breast on wheat bread. and of course as much water as possible.

MM my my favorite breakfast is a sandwich with two scrambled egg whites, a slice of smoked turkey and baby spinach on sprouted wheat bread. It's healthy, yummy, and keeps me full!!! I also like to cottage cheese piled on a slice of sprouted wheat bread with some drizzled honey or raisins. And I always have an apple and coffee/milk/soymilk with my breakfast.
