I know what you mean.  If I say "too many calories,"  or "got my fibre in" I get not too polite giggles, etc.

I usually say now:

"My body can't handle all the starch.  I'm glad yours can!"

"I actually get sick from eating all that sugar.  I must have a weak stomach."

Strangely once I started to word things differently, people started noticing the weight I have been loosing.  They also don't make fun of what I eat anymore.

Weight Loss How often do you weigh? Aug 01 2009

Being female, weighing myself in during that time of the month is too depressing so I avoid the scale roughly 3-4 days before and a day or two after it's over.

My weigh-ins are roughly 2 - 3 times a month.  I have a crazy ritual.  I go to the washroom first (before breakfast).  I don't wear a stitch of clothing!!  Then I haul out the bathroom scale.  Everytime, I have been quite pleased so I know that it is working.  I am happy if it is even one pound that I have lost.  What I know is what it has already accumulated to and that is all that matters to me.

As for how often should you weigh in?  My answer is as often as you feel the need to.  Everyone is different and you have to do what works for yourself.

I went to high school with a girl who already had about 6 grey hairs.  She was only 17.  Since her hair was black, it was noticeable.  I got my first grey hairs in my late 20s.  I too have always dyed my hair so I've been able to hide it.

Maybe it's just me but I return an insult if someone harrasses me.

Example:

He says:  You're fat & you shouldn't eat so much.

I'd say:  You're stupid & shouldn't talk so much.

I look the person right in the eye and that quite often silences them.  They don't expect you to speak back with confidence.  Often they aren't as tough as they act or they wouldn't feel the need to pick on a stranger.

You are the perfect weight.  Your question on 1500-1600 calories is good.  Don't starve yourself.  Just eat healthy and most importantly don't let your blood sugar level drop.  To do this eat three meals a day with proper spacing and snack on raw veggies/fruits.  You exercise too so if you keep up this regiment for the rest of your life you will always look good and young for your age.

Weight Loss Recording in the weight log during that time of the month. Jul 07 2009

I only log in my food and activity count every day.  The weight I never do daily.  Roughly 3-4 days before the time of the month, during and one day after I refuse to weigh in.  I consider this "the break from the scale time."

I only weigh in two days out of the month on average.  I like having "real results" to smile at each time.Smile

Hello, I did the same....joined a long time ago and then left.  I am now here to stay until it all comes off.  I have now lost 16 pounds.

For me I tried to get in my breakfast every day as a start.  This keeps my blood sugar level from the start of my day and prevents binging/snacking later on.

My appetizer for lunch is a 10-15 minute walk regardless of the weather and a nutritious lunch (raw veggies included).  It took a while for me to find foods that I liked that were also good for me.  This was when I realized how many good restaurants/take out places there are as well.  I drink a herbal tea that is specifically designed for dieters to curb sugar cravings, etc.  My walk home is 20 minutes.

Supper most often is either a good salad or another type of meal not topping 300 calories.  I usually squeeze in another 1 hour walk or other form of exercise.  One day a week I cut down a bit on the exercise but also find myself eating less (in one sitting) too.

To get to this point I faltered every now and then.  The more time I took to log in all the things I ate to get good tags going, the easier things became.  They always say that the first 10 pounds are the easiest to loose.  For me it has been the dead opposite.  I have found the first 10 pounds the toughest because it took time to get into a good routine to watch my portions and types of food.  The burn meter is awesome.  Also, just because I blew it on one day, did not mean that my whole week was shot.  This type of guilt is something we have to let go of because that is what kills our diets.  Good luck!

If I were to do any of my exercising in the morning, I wouldn't be doing any of it at all.  I have never been an early riser.  Even cooking my own breakfast in the mornings (weekdays) will quite simply never happen.  I tried to change but found myself blowing my plan.  So, I accepted myself for who I am.

The first thing I corrected was breakfast.  I know I won't cook so I scoured the menus of places around my workplace to see what I can buy within a reasonable calorie count while still being filling/nutritous.  Problem#1 solved.  My blood sugar level will be stable until lunchtime.

Next was exercise.  My "appetizer" at lunchtime is a 10-15 minute walk..rain or shine, sleet or snow period.  There are a number of restaurants that serve nutritious lunches around my workplace so this was not a problem.  I walk home (20 minutes).  If I have to walk anywhere, I take the long way to everything.  This again helps me to burn off calories.

I often have a herbal tea (specifically made for dieters) to ward off cravings throughout the day.

The remaining exercise (a lot of it) and supper is in the evenings.  I know that at this time of the day I burn the most calories from exercise.

Loosing weight is hard work.  When you reach a milestone you want to take a break.  I think what matters is how long the break is.  If it is a couple of days, no problem.  If it's longer you've got to force yourself to get back into it again.  The fact that you are logging into this site is already a good step forward.

I can hardly wait until that day comes for me.  I just hope that they won't sag anymore.  Would anyone know at what age there still is hope to have them bounce back (not sag) after a weight loss??  Even though I've lost 15 pounds, it's still a 38C for me!  On the plus side (no pun intended), I've been told that my face is slimmer.

We always like doing what we are not supposed to (self-sabotage).  All I know is that the more I exercise the less cravings I have had.  I also drink a herbal tea aimed primarily at cravings.  Sugar is addictive.  It takes a while to get away from it.

You are an inspiration to everyone!

I look forward to the day when I can make a post like that!  Right now I've lost 15 pounds and have another 65 to go.  I find just living healthier changes one's mindset!  Good luck with "bulking up a bit".  I assume that you mean by muscle (a bit of weight lifting).

Weight Loss Depo Provera shots causing extreme weight gain? Jun 23 2009

Yes depo provera started with my weight gain.  I craved a lot of junk food after that which did not help and lost my willingness to exercise.  A job change to a sedentary style one did not help.  I stayed on it for so long because I did not get any migraines on it.  It also made me really spacey and effected my speech in the last 6 months I was on it.  When I went off a total of 2 years later, most of the effects were cut in half but the remaining never really left.  I lost some weight but the majority stayed on.  The bad eating habits stayed behind and my brain was quite "foggy".  I would not recommend that shot to anyone.

I have since found herbs to help with the "brain fog" as that part is what hurt me more than anything.  I take "Estrosense" from Lorna Vanderhaeghe line of health products which is not birth control but is great for the side effects that stayed behind.  With mental clarity, came a willingness to a healthier lifestyle and now a steadily decreasing weight.

I learned that there are many people in the same boat as me.  Many have had the same bad habits, etc.  What I also learned is that we all have a greater awareness now of healthier foods and habits.  When I look around the office where I work, I eat healthier than most!  I can even handle some of the less flattering things said to me now like "So you really think this is going to help?"  "Wow you must really like fruit and salads!" every time I eat.  I remember getting my cholesterol checked not too long ago and the doctor saying he was really impressed.  I had some people at work truly shocked about that and too scared to go themselves even though they weigh far less.   I've lost 15 pounds and have 65 more to go.  I have just logged in another successful day!

On here you can be "you" and that is the best part!Smile

A lot of pizza....They make you feel if you get the whole wheat crust you are somehow doing yourself a favour.  What they don't tell you is that anything over one smaller slice can already blow your daily limit.

Honey crullers at Tim Horton's make me sick now.  Wendy's taco salad is a "blow-your-limit salad" (which I loved).  I eat Taco Bell in very small portions now (and rarely).

The best legislation the government brought in was the nutrition information requirement on products.  Now at least you can calculate what you eat.  A shame that it took this long to come into law.

I find one day out of the month can be like that.  After I have eaten, I simply walk/exercise a bit more than usual.  For me after having eaten my blood sugar level is back to normal which in itself stabilizes my mood.  A good brisk walk (which I do after every supper) then gets doubled.  This relieves tension and I feel like a million bucks afterwards.  The next day I go back to my regular calorie restrictions.  "Blowing" one day out of the month does not mean we've blown the whole diet.  I have still been loosing quite a bit of weight (gradually).
