You can do this! One day at a time. Everyone here takes it one day at a time. Don't beat yourself up if you mess up one day because tomorrow is another day. I too am 5'7 and started out weighing 178, although when I started here I was at 172.5. That was last Sept or Oct, I can't remember right now. I hung out here everyday until late Nov when I got lazy, was able to maintain for the most part though. Came back as soon as I started gaining again and as of today I am down to 146. Only 8 more pounds to go. I have a few pictures posted on my page and you can see the difference. I was amazed when I compared them. Everyone here will help you as much as you need. Just remember you can do it! One day at a time!
Good Luck! |

Thanks for all your suggestions. I tried to double sock, tape the band aid on and it worked. Of course as soon as I took the tape off the band aid came with it but who cares. lol This was the first day in almost 2 weeks that I wasn't in pain by the end of my hour walk. My foot doesn't hurt tonight either. WOO HOO Thanks again! |

FIrst of all Congratulations on your weight loss! 25 lbs is a HUGE amount to lose in 2 months. You really shouldn't be losing more than 1-2 lbs a week, about 8 lbs a month. I know you can lose more in the first few weeks of changing your diet and drinking more water. I see that you want to continue to lose 10lbs a month which is a lot. As you know you don't want to lose it too quickly as it is not healthy and doesn't tend to stay off in the long run. I am still working on the last ten lbs I need to lose and haven't lost more than about 1lb a week. Aggravating, yes but I want to do it right so it stay off this time. My guess is that now that you are exercising you are building muscle which is heavier than fat. Don't stop exercising but continue to make sure your deficit doesn't go above 1000 calories a day. You can reach your goal it just might take a little longer than you hoped. Plus think how much better you feel when you exercise and eat right! Good Luck! |

I am a home care provider and have had a client with Alzheimer's. Yes it can be very difficult to deal with emotionally. My heart is with you. Your experience reminded me of the book The Notebook. Yeah I kno they made a movie but I have never seen it. I read the book a few months ago and I just loved it! I think you would enjoy it too. Anyone who knows someone who suffers from Alzheimer's would like this book. Enjoy all the time you have with him, take him on more walks or just sit quietly with him, I believe in my heart that they know you are there even if they can't communicate with you. But remember to take care of you too, cry if you need to and don't be ashamed. It is hard to watch a loved one who is sick. If you ever need to talk I am always here to listen. Take care of yourself and hang onto the wonderful time you had with your Grandfather. |

| Weight Loss | Why can't I get back to this?! | Jul 04 2008 05:16 (UTC) |

I am in the same boat you are in. I started here in Sept of last year and lost 20 lbs. Stopped counting in Dec and didn't really gain a lot back. In June I decided that I wanted to lose the last 10-12 lbs. I do really good on the weekdays but then seem to blow it on the weekends. So I really haven't lost anything in the last month. GRRRRRR So I am going to try really hard to stick to it this weekend. Mayb we could keep each other motivated. Check in once a week and what not. My Stats- 5'7" 151.5 and I want to get down to between 138-140 |

My best friends daughter has been slightly over weight for 3 or 4 years. She is only 8 now. The Dr told my friend last year that he didn't want her daughter to gain any weight in the next year. Can you imagine? Anyway, my friend just told her daughters and Husband that they were going to start eating better. If they go out to eat they choose healthier places to go. They go on walks everyday and they limit the amount of TV they watch. Her daughter had choices of what to eat for dinner each night but none of it was fried food and portions were limited. They could have an apple or other fruit if they were still hungry but they had to wait 20 minutes after dinner. They could also have dessert every night but had to wait 45 minutes after dinner. It worked, she only gained about 3 pounds that year and grew taller. She loved the way her clothes started fitting loser. Never did my friend use the word diet or watch what we eat. By walking I mean just a walk around the neighborhood. Or they would all go for a bike ride, just to do something outside in the fresh air. I am sure u will get more advice from others here. You 2 can do this together. If one thing doesn't work try something else. You will find something that will work Good Luck! |

I'm still here too. I was under 150 for a day or 2 last week but on my regular weigh in day I am 151. Maybe this week I can get down into the 140's group. I think cuz it's summer time people are busy doing other fun things rather than posting. Enjoying the sun here even if it is only for a day or two. Happy Monday! |

| Motivation | Taking the training wheels off - NO MORE CALORIE COUNTING | Jun 08 2008 03:10 (UTC) |

I left calorie counting for almost 5 months. I had been using this site for about 3 months and had a pretty good idea of the calorie counts of what I usually ate. I did pretty good with the weight part even though I really didn't exercise. At about the 4 month point I started putting back on some weight. I gained a total of 6 pounds but about 4 of those were water weight as I lost them within the first 3 days. I still weighed in almost everyday and once I saw those pounds coming back I came back to CC. I am here to stay for a while now, I need to reach my goal weight of 138. I am currently at 151. So take a month off and see how you do. I am sure you will be just fine. Good Luck! |

CONGRATULATIONS Tammy! Awesome accomplishment! I am 5'7" and as of Friday I was at 151. I started here in Oct of 2007 at 172.5, I stuck with my exercise and calorie counting until the middle of Dec and then just got lazy. I came back on board last Monday and dropped a few pounds. This time I am going to stick with it and get to my goal weight of 138. Have and Awesome weekend everyone! |

I too notice when I exercise my PMS becomes less intense and some months not at all. Try not to worry about it, just keep eating and exercising like you are. Take a deep breath and relax, stress can make your body do weird things too. |

ok I'm game. I am in my late 30's, wait that can't be possible! Here's the stats: 37.5 5'7" and currently 151.5 My goal is 138. I started here in Sept 2007 weighing in at 172.5. I visited regularly until Dec when it just got too cold outside to exercise anymore, yeah I know it's just an excuse. Anyway I back at it again and plan to reach my goal weight and stay there this time. I too am one of the yo-yo weight gainers/losers. Funny thing is, that when I start to exercise regularly and count calories my BF seems to lose weight faster and with less effort than I do. Just so unfair, like the commercial. Good luck to everyone! Have a great day! |

OK I am back after a somewhat long absence. Before I left I made it to the 140's but I am back here again for a short stay. I started back to walking and calorie counting yesterday. I am at 152.5 So I gained about 6 pounds in my lazy time. Not too bad but I want to get rid of the weight I gained and get to my goal weight. I just wish summer would get here sometime soon, I am sick of RAIN! Anyone else still here with me? |

| Weight Loss | Help!!!! I cannot stop eating after dinner! | Jun 04 2008 05:48 (UTC) |

I eat popcorn after dinner most nights. Habit, mayb but it stops me from eating other junk food. Also because of the salt intake I drink more water which also helps to fill me up. Just make sure you get the smart pop or something low in calories. Stay away from the movie butter stuff. I don't want to know how many calories in that stuff. Also you can try brushing your teeth. Some people says it helps them stop eating. I'm not sure on that one. |

My BF works in an office but has found ways to get some exercise in during the day. He takes the stairs instead of the elevator and he tries to take a walk on his lunch hour. He might walk for 20 minutes of his lunch hour. You might want to get a pedometer, that way you can see how many steps you take a day. I have one and when I use it I find myself trying to beat the number I walked the day before, kind of a competition with myself. As for the calorie counting, it's kinda hard at first but after a few days of logging things you will get use to it. I eat a lot of popcorn cuz it's low in calories and fills you up. You can do this! One day at a time. Don't beat yourself up if you splurge, tomorrow is another day. |

Yep I agree, I am 5'7" and aiming for 140, so I think you will be safe aiming for 140. I have not really been counting calories the last few weeks or working out at all. I am just calling it the winter blues! I have been watching what I eat and trying not to stuff myself and have managed to lose about 1 lb a week. I am currently down to 152, I have lost 20.5 lbs. My goal for the week is to get back to counting calories and back to walking. Happy Monday Everyone! |

| The Lounge | DOG TRAINING TIPS- I need help please! | Jan 03 2008 04:09 (UTC) |

house training can be done but you have to train her that going potty inside is not ok. Have you taken her to the vets to make sure there is no medical reason for her to be having accidents? If that has been ruled out then here are some things you can try. First make sure that she goes outside as soon as she wakes up and after she eats. Make sure she goes out as soon as you get home too. Once she figures out when it's time to go outside she will let you know if you forget. When she is inside with you keep her with you at all times. The best way to do this is to get a short leash, 4 feet is good, and attach it to your belt loop and hook her to the other end. That way you will know what she is doing at all times. If she starts to go potty you can stop her and take her outside right away. Praise her when she goes outside, give her small treats and lots of attention. If she has an accident ignore it, clean it up and go on. Don't yell at her or scold her often times this will only make her afraid of you. You could try crate training her, most dogs wont urinate and defecate where they sleep. If you are going to crate train make sure you do it slowly and use treats. Once she gets us to it she may actually go into her crate when she is tired. Here's a link to crate training http://www.inch.com/~dogs/cratetraining.html If you have any questions feel free to email me. Try to explain this to your Mom and Dad and have them help. Pets are part of our lives and quickly become part of the family. With the help of your family she can stay home with her family. Which means YOU! Take care and let me know how things are going. I am here for you if I can help you with this at all! Erin and Sunny |

I am sorry to hear about your friend. But it's not your fault he got back into the drug scene. Please don't blame yourself! Be happy that he is getting help for his addiction. Hopefully he will get the help he needs and be able to stay sober once he leaves rehab. It sounds like he has had a rough time of it lately and maybe it is the best thing that happened that he is now getting the help he needs! YOU HAVE TO KEEP TELLING YOURSELF IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT! He made the decision to use not because of you but because of himself. I am sure he is/was using drugs to ease the pain of what he experienced. Hopefully in rehab he will get the counseling he needs to deal with the pain of everything that has happened. I will pray for him and you too. Please give yourself a break and stop blaming yourself. I know it is hard but for your own sanity you need to stop. Take care of yourself and know that we are always here for you! |

Yes I have fallen off the wagon, for almost 4 years! I gained 35-40 lbs in that time. But you know, one day I woke up and said "ok I am done with eating all the junk food, gaining all the weight, and my knees and ankles bothering me on a daily basis." So I talked to my brother who had recently lost 40 lbs and he said he counted calories and exercised. So in Oct 2007 I ended up at this site. I logged my calories daily and after 2 weeks I started walking. To date I have lost 17.5 lbs. Has it always been easy? NO NO NO!!!! I have had weeks where I don't lose anything and other weeks when I lose motivation, like this week no exercise, but I still count calories. I have binge days, maybe once every other week. And with no exercise I have noticed that my knees are starting to bother me again. So Sunday is my start of walking again. I know I have to do it to keep my knees healthy and strong. I know about the support thing at home, although my brother isn't unsportative, he still brings cookies and junk in the house. My BF loves to cook and at first would make really high calorie foods. He has gotten better now and has even lost 10 pounds. That's what is great about this site. Everyone here will help encourage you and keep you on the right track. If you have decided that you are ready to lose weight, it has to be your decision and not to please anyone else, then you can do it. I know it is hard but we are all here for you. Take it one day at a time, and if you mess up tomorrow is a new day!
YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! |

Ok I am sitting here shaking my head and laughing. I am with everyone else here, give it away, donate it, do whatever you have to do to get it out of your house. I would probably keep one or two things, but the rest would have to go! Not tomorrow or the next day, but NOW! lol Good luck I hope you find new homes for most if not all of your goodies! |

You should be able to sleep just fine. But a tylenol pm may help. I slept most of the way back from China, I think about 7-8 hours just fine. I was a little stiff when I woke up but I was able to get up and walk around a bit and was fine. You will have such a great time! You will have to let us know how things are going. |

Flying can make even seasoned fliers like me nervous. I sit around just like you and think "what if?" But you know what? If we let our sense of fear keep us from flying then we would never get to experience all the fun, exciting and new things we can see in different countries. I have flown international 2 times. Once to Germany and once to China. Germany was about 9 hours I think and China about 12. They were both long long long flights. The worst part was sitting in coach, there just isn't enough room to get comfortable. If you are truly afraid you are going to have a panic attack talk to your doc and see if you can get some mild sedatives. Also I agree with taking Tylenol pm or some other sleep agent with you. You may not need them but they are great if you do. Just make sure if you take sedatives to check with your doc to see if it is ok to take both. Please don't cancel your trip. I think you will regret it. If you want to chat more just send me a message, I will do the best I can to help you prepare for the trip.

I agree is sounds like shin splints. I have had them before and it really does hurt. When I got sick and took a week and a half off of walking they healed and I haven' t had anymore problems. One thing you might try, it worked for me and I got it from this site, is to wrap your lower leg with ace bandage. Take it from the knee to the ankle. I did that for a while and it made it much more manageable. I could go about my daily activities, not working out, with no pain. I did continue to do my walks but it hurt when I did. I really think the best thing is rest but I am sure there are others here who will have suggestions on that too. Hope this helps some. Feel better soon! |

HI Emily, I'm Erin. I am 36 and started out needing to lose 32.5 lbs. I have been using this site since Oct 15 and so far have lost 17 lbs. It is hard for me to stay motivated right now because of the short days and cold weather. I get up in the morning and look outside and if I see what I think is ice I crawl back into bed for a little extra sleep! lol Counting calories can be a pain. I decided today not to bother counting, I am just too lazy to look up what I ate today. lol Everyone here is great and will help with motivation whenever you need it. Welcome! |
