*sigh* I am in the same boat. I have a 3 months old and a belly that still looks flubby. I put on 25lbs during preg and am about 6 lbs away from my weight of 120lbs. Its not my weight but my bodyshape that looks gross now- i have love handles and have become a muffin top from previously pear shaped body!!!

I'm exclusively breast feeding and it seems like my stomach is going down- slowly but surely. I eat ~1800 cals a day with a good supply of milk. I would say don't do anything drastic, let nature work its way. Eat healthy and try to take walks/ get some exercise if you can. I've also heard always flexing your stomach will help it tone..but who knows!!

Pregnancy & Parenting Working moms- how do you find the time to workout? Oct 22 2009

Vanessa, that sounds like my life- on auto pilot LOL! :) There's always that load of laundry, stack of dishes, bills, etc etr to do when i can enjoy "my time" that I think my to-do list never ends.

DH is working on his startup so has crazy hrs (and no paycheck at the mo :( ) I have a hectic job with type A personalities around me, very few women and none with kids..so ofcourse while my team is working till 12-1am, going to bars and having team dinners i have to atleast log in from home after chores are done and work :(. So I always talk  myself out of that middle of the night run at the gym.

ah well..i should count my blessings..healthy  baby and no stretch marks..haha

Not to digress, but i am in the exact same boat! my LO turned 3 months today and i've been pumpng at work and nursing at home and the milk is *barely* enough. When i was breastfeeding him directly the milk was more then enough and now I have to supplement with formula every so often. It drives me nuts!!

I gained about 25 pounds during pregnancy and have lost about 20 lbs to be back at 126lbs ..the last 5 lbs just dont seem to be going..frustrating! I"m on a 1700-1900 cal diet and no time to work out.

Foods How long will cooked rice/cooked quinoa keep in the refrigerator? Oct 08 2009

Hi,

I tend to do the same. I make brown rice and quinoa and always make extra to freeze for the days I don't have time to make fresh. Both rice and quinoa freeze very well, I freeze them in single serving containers and just heat in the microwave after sprinkling a little water.

Whole grain rice is healthier than polished rice.  For me, that usually means brown rice or jasmine rice.

is jasmine rice whole grain by itself? I thought it needs to be brown- basmati or jasmine.

Weight Loss Why Do We Want Sweets/Cakes/Icecream/Chocolate??? Jun 22 2009

I totally second what gem86 has written. I have a HUGE sweet tooth, and I still eat dessert/sweets from time to time but I have managed to wean myself off of the daily sugar habit. e.g i used to love my tea, coffee, oatmeal with sugar-gradually over a period of a month I stopped adding sugar to it and now I cant stand added sugar in them. Similarly I started eating less sugary cereals- kashi go lean, non frosted shredded wheat and now I dont like sugary cereals at all. I wont even go the Splenda route since that'll just make me crave for more sweet stuff.

I figured since I"m covered here, I can still safely indulge in lots of fruit and the occasional icecream/cake/cookie craving. But now it takes me lot less of it to get satisfied since I can't eat very sweet stuff anymore. Another trick- I keep a few werther's hard candy in my desk- if i'm having a sweet craving i'll just suck on it rather than raid the office pantry for candy! Hope this helps.

all sweet stuff is the bane of my existence! I start eating it and it triggers this "eat quickly so you don't have to stop" mentality *sighhh* so I just keep dark chocolate in the house for emergencies.

Luckily I don't crave bad/fatty salty foods or creamy foods much- it just doesn't agree with me anymore.

sweet cold: any rich chocolate flavored ice cream with chocolate fudge, rice pudding, frozen yogurt

sweet hot: hmm hot brownies, lava cakes, rich chocolate cake slightly warmed in the microwave, halwah

sweet pastry: indian sweets, apple pies, pecan pies, baklavah

sweet breakfast: pancakes, muffins, chocolate croissants, banana bread, coffee cakes

lunch/dinner: i do crave an occasional pizza slice, cheesy lasagne, potato latkes or fries

snack: chips, peanuts

2) whole wheat crackers with string cheese

3) kashi granola bars

4) Handful of nuts

5) lentil soup

to  be even more anal, you go with sides of boiled eggs, english muffin and/or oatmeal or your favorite cold cereal with skim milk. This way the oodles of fat added to your omlette will be spared. In some places I go to, I ask for the egg white omlette to be made in PAM spray and that generally comes out wayyy less greasier.

Enjoy the brunch!

For me it was a realization right after college that I had packed on 20 lbs. aacckk! I decided to start excercising and eating healthy all at once. The eating healthy however came naturally only after 1-2 months i would say.

I gave up all whites- white flour, white bread, white rice and substituted that with whole grains. That was the easy part. I then weaned myself off of adding suagr- so no sugar in my tea, coffee, oatmeal. I gave up fried food/ high fatty food altogether and now I feel sick when I eat it since my body's no longer used to it. In short smal changes over a month or 2 made all the difference. And yes- i stopped buying all that stuff and keeping it around the house.

i still eat dessert and chocolate now but all in moderation and as treats. So don't worry, just stick to your guns and you'll get there!

I sprout aduki & mung beans mostly..  so I go with the entry on the CC database for mung beans, mature seeds, sprouted.  http://caloriecount.about.com/calories-mung-b eans-mature-seeds-sprouted-i11043  30 cals per 100g

wow- i was just going to post a similar post myself since I sprout mung beans at home very often (just had a yummy sprouted mung beans, tomato, cucumber, yogurt, tamarind sauce salad for lunch)

i have a related question- when I sprout at home, the sprouts aren't as big as I can get in the supermarket so I'm guessing the calorie conent for my home-made mung sprouts are higher than 30cals/cup?

i would gag at the though on cottage cheese ( i eat fat-free too) but now i really like it in a few things. I basically use it in place of cream cheese or yogurt and always have it savory. I'll ususally eat it on toast with tomato and lots of lemon pepper or as a dip with veggie sticks with hot sauce/lemon pepper added. I never liked it sweet...

I love this post!!

I used to eat tons of suagry cereal thining it was healthy- now I eat oatmeal or kashi go lean.

I used to eat TacoBell everyday for lunch at school- double gortida crunch with extra cheese..now i won't step into a TacoHell!

I would load my tea/coffee with sugar, now I don't add anything and have weaned myself off of adding sugar in anything

I would drink fruit juice- now I only eat fruit

I would eat lots of white rice and bread thinking it was fat free so all good- now I only eat whole wheat bread and brown rice/bulgur/quinoa

I would eat lots of dry crackers (ritz, tea biscuits)- now I only eat whole grain stuff and less packaged stuff.

No more fried/high fat content food- i get a heartburn when I eat it now.

Pregnancy & Parenting Any cures for pregnancy constipation? Feb 05 2009
19:50 (UTC)

I had the exact same problem first 12 weeks of my pregnancy (i am now 17 weeks) and i can feel your pain! i was always bloated, gassy and uneasy looking more pregnant than I actually was. What helped me was to drink 2 glasses of water right after waking up followed by a cup of hot tea. I would then wait till i had to go and not eat anything till then. Once I started doing that i became very regular.

I hope this helps and congratulations on your pregnancy!

What I'm worried about is that I dont like the sight of veggies/salads anymore- I was a real veggie-holic pre-pregnancy plus I'm vegetarian so it limits my options. Hopefully it'll all go away soon and I can start having a more balanced diet.

I experienced/am experiencing the same thing. Before becoming pregnant I ate  more than 7 servings of veggies a day but now I find it hard to squeeze 3 in. Fruit and I still get along just fine but veggies that I used to love like spinach and broccoli just cause a nearly immediate gag  in me!

I'm 19 weeks and it has gotten slightly better compared to the first trimester but i still have to force feed myself greens sometimes.

aeetheri - thats exactly whats happening with me. i could happily chomp on plates of raw broccoli and carrots  and now i'm running miles away form them :( i'm thinking of baking carrot/zucchini breads so I atleast eat some veggies. Jeez..I feel like a 2 yr old..trying to sneak in veggies in my food!

congratulations on your pregnancy- is this your first? it's my first and I absoutely don't know what to expect. .

I'm 5 weeks pregnant and I'm having less cravings and more food aversions :(  1 day I'm dying for a falafel and the next day I cant stand the sight of it. I"m mostly end up eating whole wheat toast and fruit, all carbs.

What I'm worried about is that I dont like the sight of veggies/salads anymore- I was a real veggie-holic pre-pregnancy plus I'm vegetarian so it limits my options. Hopefully it'll all go away soon and I can start having a more balanced diet.

Original Post by allnaturalgirl02:

I don't think a size 0 is unnatural. A size 0 of today is basically a size 6 from decades ago (when the ideal was a six!). All that happened was the same size clothes got a different label on them. My mother in law is 5'0" and 100 lbs and most 0s are too big for her so she gets a lot of things altered or shops in the girls' department. She doesn't look that small at all, btw. I'm a size 0 now at say, Abercrombie or Free People, but I also have a perfectly normal BMI and there is no way I look unhealthy. My BMI is higher than some of the girls here who are trying to lose.

allnaturalgirl: I've been thinking about that too! I'm 5'6'', weigh ~119lbs, by no means am i stick-thin. I have a booty and thighs but I fit into a BR size 0.  I'm thinking BR makes their sizes bigger since its targetted towards slightly older people.

huggitbear: btw- I'm a size 0, healthy BMI and just got pregnant, so all size 0 people are not unhealthy. i used to be a size 8 four years ago but I love my size 0/2 size a lot more!!

itslovelly- i hear you. I'm a consultant living out of a hotel room 3 nights a week and find eating right very difficult, especially since i'm veggie. Breakfast is ok- i gen eat the oatmeal, boiled eggs, fruit at the hotel. lunch is a salad without dressing, beans/eggs, yogurt. dinner is where i struggle. i just make speacial requests for room service - order steamed veggies and boiled eggs on the side. i'ts reallly boring- but i dont know what else to do!  I make it a point not to eat dessert or drink while travelling (which is hard since its all on the client expense ;) )

i carry my granola bars, nuts with me but thats it. i really dont have the time to cook or do anytihng besides work during the 4 days on the client site.

Vegetarian do raw fruits and veggies make you crave more raw fruits and veggies? Aug 04 2008

In winter I automatically feel like eating more hot/cooked foods so end up using frozen or cooking fresh veggies. Winter veggies- squash/root vegetables are generally better cooked anyway. But i do still pay top $ for tomatoes, salad greens, etc...

Vegetarian do raw fruits and veggies make you crave more raw fruits and veggies? Aug 04 2008

yes! I totally agree (i write this while chompping on a raw zucchini). I've been snacking on raw fruits and veggies for a few years and I find that I just dont like dressing on my salad anymore since I dont want to mask the taste of pure goodness of raw veggies. I snack on a huge plate of cut up veggies and eat them with very little hummus, and fruit is always breakfast and dessert.

I do like to cook my veggies too  though since eating them raw doesn't always satiate me- but i make sure i dont add too much oil/spices and never fry them- just saute/stir fry so they are still crunchy and I can taste them. hmm veggies and fruits- i'm addicted! Smile
