I have a similar question as Samantha and I went to the Hierarchy of Fat Loss site and forgive for this...but it was a little over my head. Could you help break it down for me Melkor? I don't have very much time during the week as I'm always on the go with my job and responsibilities around the house. My calories (the ones I eat) are coming into check with how many I burn during the day but I'd like to slim down (and of course...as quickly as I can). I walk in the evenings and do some situps/pushups (on top of the active day) but it seems like that site was saying that's soooooo not enough. Any suggested activities???

The sugar won't melt in iced tea. To do it correctly you need to pour the sugar in after or before you pour the boiled tea in the pitcher; the boiled tea will dissolve the sugar enough. Then stir and THEN refridgerate. I've never heard of making the sugar into syrup b/f adding it...unless they were picking. There a lot of people that say sweet tea tastes like its got syrup in it. I was small and took a trip to DC where evidently sweet tea is scarce. I ordered tea, not thinking it wouldn't be sweet. I tried to sweeten it when I got it and made a sandbar in the glass with how much sugar I poured in it (not realizing it wasn't dissolving). HA! Lesson learned...quickly! |

Thanks guys! Trust me I only treat myself occasionally now, unlike how I used to be. I drink Propel nonstop now and the occasional lemonade. But I just was stumped on this one. Oh...Bobo, I used to work in a restaurant too and you're right there's a lot of sugar that goes into that stuff. Normally I only drink water when I'm out though. I have to have decaf tea as I'm allergic to caffeine. I'm willing to say just about all restaurants down here have caffeinated so I just stay away altogether, even the unsweetened tea. Nomoreexcuses, WOW! Where did you grow up? I know its got to be the south. For one Chic-fil-a is only really in the south and 64 oz of SWEET tea/day is fair amount!! HAHA and 2 cups is what I limit myself to. It used to be more...when I was in college. Got to have that sugar rush! :) HAHA |

Rocky, Thanks, I opted to eat only like 8-10 noodles and mostly sauce. I don't mind too much as I would rather have the sauce. I love brown rice so I'll try the noodles too. Didn't really think of that. Sksiegel, Do you use the tortillas for making like wraps instead of sandwiches and stuff? |

Oh girl! My boxer has the same problem with the leash...that's why my husband takes the leash... Boot camp class....What is it, like Billy Banks or whatever that guys name is? That sounds calorie burning! As far as the being busy. I can relate but you need to make time (don't mean to sound demanding but I figure this is what the site's all about, motivation). But don't listen to me...I still haven't signed up for that pilates class yet. They want $50 just for the initial visit (a one-on-one) and then $10 every visit afterwards....still just not sure. I have lost 4 lbs since I started this site....I'm not sure if that's correct or if the two scales read differently. I'm looking on the bright side of things and going with its right...LOL Good luck this week too! Oh and happy hump day...ALMOST FRIDAY! |

Thanks so much guys! Renee, I could use some more pointers from you. I'm also allergic (along with a long list of other things) to soy. Soy being the most prevalent on that list of allergies. So my ENT suggests not eating anything with soy in it which I find really hard, which is why I would like to talk more with you about how to avoid it. I have cut out eating processed meats. I only get the deli cut meats. I struggle with the boxed stuff and eating out. I didn't think soy was so bad for you. I always thought it was a good thing. Is there anywhere on here where I could get a list of grained based carbs vs goood carbs?

Thanks!! I'm having a real problem cutting those carbs out. Right now I'm at : 48.7% carbs, 15.7% protien, 35.6% fat. Like right now I'm already at 1254 total calories for the day and we're supposed to be having spaghetti for dinner.....ah the joys of being poor and trying to be on a diet. I like the sauce more than the noodles so I may be able to get by with just eating a bowl of sauce (like soup) instead of also eating noodles. Any suggestions out there for how to prepare the spaghetti?

Tyrdrop, I can relate to the binging. That's normally how mine start out. I eat something little and then it progresses to something bigger and way too many calories! I'm new at this too and so I don't know what will help. I'm trying to brush my teeth after I have enough to fill me up. (Maybe after that "little something") After that I normally don't crave a lot b/c it just doesn't taste good with the toothpaste. I would also try to keep busy. Being in college and an engineering major I can imagine what kind of work load you have and if not there's prob a definite social aspect that's possible. Hope this helps. If I learn any other tricks I'll let you know.
