| Weight Loss | the perfect butt? | Jan 31 2008 21:27 (UTC) |

Hahaha! I love your answer healthnuttie. That is definately a nice butt. As for feminine back sides, there's a reason J Lo, Kim Kardashian and Vida Guerra are soooooo popular with no real talents to speak of. I have a big ole butt and its the one area I dont want to loose. I wouldn't mind if it were a little bigger actually (and neither would my hubby). LoL. |

I'm down only 1 lbs this week :( so thats 211. I was not very good this week so I understand. I'm back on track as of yesterday so hopefully next week the numbers will be better. Way to go Lucy. You are down 14lbs it seems. How are you doing it? Good luck everyone else! |

Since we are confessing... I've binged so heavily on sweets that I've worried about it inducing a diabetic coma and i'm not even diabetic. (wow that sounds really bad now that I wrote it). I can't even name everything I have eaten in one sitting on a binge. I've ordered mulitple drinks at a drive-thru so the person taking the order thinks the food is for more than 1 person. I'm sure I've eaten more than 5000 (and thats probably shooting it low) calories in a day when I binge. I've hidden my binge eating from friends, family and strangers. Thankfully I have been able to really control my binges lately and hopefully I can continue. This really helped. Thank you for making me be honest with myself. |

You should see results much faster if you weight train. I had the same situation a few years ago and as soon as I started doing weights the lbs dropped right off (too bad I stopped and gained it all back LoL). Make sure you are fatiguing your muscles or it doesn't work as well. I just started up again this week and I already feel the difference. |

| Weight Loss | BINGE eating! | Jan 17 2008 21:47 (UTC) |

Hi Lizzie! I'm a binger too but today I controlled it! Not even white knuckle, I really just didn't want to binge even though I was faced with one of my biggest triggers (a test... apparently I was under the impression that fatty high cal foods made me smarter LoL). I use to binge really bad on candy bars, chips, soda, fries... just about everything bad (all at the same time by the way...probably about 2000-3000 calories at a time. Yikes!) What I have been trying to do lately is change the way I think about food. I have been looking at things and thinking "how much better does a candy bar taste than an apple?" Not enough to make me fat thats for sure! I've also been really avoiding all my triggers and trying to replace all my bad food habits with good ones. The best thing I have found is eating something high in fiber to really fill me up. Fiber one bars are AWESOME! Plus they have 1/3 the daily recommened amount of fiber so they fill you up really fast with only 140 calories. I also always have a back up plan and really think about what I'm going to do when I'm faced with a trigger. Last night I planned what I would do before the test (i.e. set up 2 tootsie pops, a 100 cal pack of cheese nips and a diet soda to take with me today while I was studying). Hope this helps! Its hard but you can stop if I could. |

I LOOOVE Peanut butter and have been on a search for how to cut the calories on my morning PB and toast. Lately I have been mixing my peanut butter with purees. It sounds kind of funky but tastes great and ups the nutrition a lot. I personally like it best mixed with carrot puree, but unsweetened apple sauce isn't bad either in a pinch. It doesnt change the consistency tooo much and keeps the yummy pb taste. It virtually cuts the calories in half!

| Weight Loss | what happens if you starve yourself for 30 days? | Jan 16 2008 00:37 (UTC) |

When you can turn a few fish and a some bread into a meal for thousands then you should fast like Jesus. Otherwise, not a good idea. I feel your pain though. My mom is in her mid 50's, relatively stable and very intellegent but for some reason a board certified surgeon has convinced her that it is beneficial to eat 500 calories a day of just protein and green vegetables. She's been on the diet since the Monday before Thanksgiving. Thankfully, on monday she decided she's lost enough weight and started the maintanance portion (a measly 1200 calories a day but at least she'll be able to eat a full meal). I was worried about her every day since she started. It really hurts to have someone you love doing something that you know is so potentially harmful. Keep us posted as to how both of you are doing. |

| Vegetarian | Article : Vegan Infants and Children...What do you think? | Jan 16 2008 00:00 (UTC) |

I'm a lacto-ovo with great respect for all you vegans. I have always wondered what I would do when I have kids because of the whole pushing my ideas on someone not old enough to decide for themselves and the exact same birthday party situation you brought up hmarcos. Personally I think that even if you do not raise your kids veggie they will definately take your example into consideration at an age much earlier than you would expect. I wasn't raised in a home without any vegetarians but I had a vegan uncle and almost veg grandma, neither of which I saw very often, but I started to think about what I was actually eating at a really early age. By 8 I decided I couldn't stand to eat animals anymore. My mom was furious but I was determined and haven't eaten any meat since. (16 years now Yay!) The article is very enlightening though. Thank you very much for posting it. Its great to see that kids can healthfully eat a vegan diet (unlike what you see on the news with kids being taken away from parents for malnutrition from eating vegan diets). |

| I love nuts especially raw almonds. I'll eat the whole can if I let myself. Well Blue Diamond just came out with 100 calorie packs! That way you pay attention to how much you eat. Also, if you eat nuts in shells keep the shells on a plate so you can pay attention to how much you eat. Hope this helps! | |||
| Weight Loss | HELP! weird symptoms!!! | Jan 13 2008 17:14 (UTC) |

It sounds like an anxiety attack to me too. What I'm more concerned about is that you are so young and eating so little. Your diet is by no means balanced or good for you. If you are 14 years old and a swimmer you should be eating much more than 1300 calories a day (you need extra calories to help you though development). Dinner should not be peas and cottage cheese. Of course you are hungry, you didn't eat anything to fill you up. You need to balance your diet better. Try eating more fruits and veggies and protein. If you are really worried about your calorie intake use veggie meat substitutes. This just isn't healthy though. You should go and talk to your doctor again about your ED before it gets out of control. I had a lot of friends pay very high prices for ED's and its just not pretty. Take care of yourself. |

My favorites are any of the morningstar farms chikn substitutes( especially the buffalo wings and parmesan ranch chick patties), boca spicy chikn patties and riblets. The riblets are fabulous and taste best when microwaved which is great if you are busy. All of the soy crumbles are great to add into recipes too. I would avoid the St. Ivves brand. To me it tastes really really bad. Everything depends on what you like though. Just buy a few boxes of whatever you see and try them out. |

| Vegetarian | How can I get enough iron? | Jan 13 2008 16:05 (UTC) |
11 |
Try eating some cereal. I know the cereals I eat have between 25 and 45% of the recommended daily amount. They also have a lot of other important vitamins. I'm not sure how accurate this is but you can check if you are getting enough iron by running a gold ring on your face. If you are anemic you will get a green line. I think it works at least for me because when I am making sure I'm getting enough iron I dont get a green line or it is much fainter. Does anyone know if this is actually effective or just an old wives tale? |

Lucydawn, I'm not sure why week 2 is not a big number week. I have always found that to be the case and if you watch shows like "Biggest Loser" it always happens to them too. I think its something that has to do with the adjustment your body is making. Does anyone else know why week 2 has lower losses? |

If this is something you do only every 2 weeks enjoy it. Think of it as a cheat day. Just try to make healthy choices at the bad places and mention them to your dad. Like tell him the big breakfast was good but your favorite is a breakfast sandwich (even if it isn't). The calorie count is way less. And tonight if you order pizza try to get a thin crust or maybe get a salad to fill you up. Enjoy yourself though.

I'm sorry about your gain hasta. Just keep pushing and you will see results soon. I have just kept steady trying to eat my suggested calories with a 500 calorie deficit a day. I have been making better choices when eating out and trying to eat out much less. Last week was also my time of the month so I was a little bloated and thats probably why I didn't have any loss. I am only shooting to lose about 1-2 lbs a week so I can keep it off for good this time. Keep your heads up everyone. Week 2 is always the one with the least progress and you will make it as long as you do not give up.

Lacto-ovo for the last 16 years. I love eggs and milk and can't imagine cutting them out of my diet right now. Hopefully one day I'll be able to but its so much more commitment and I'm just not ready yet. I have huge respect for all the vegans out there. Way to go! BTW, what is a freegan??

Your muscles may be swollen from the exercise. Lifting 10 lbs is definately not enough for you to bulk up. I was squating with 80lbs and loosing inches constistantly a few years ago. Keep it up and give your muscles some time to adjust to their new activity level. The swelling with go down shortly. |

| Fitness | Weightlifting Shoulder Injury - Help? | Jan 08 2008 21:08 (UTC) |

The same thing happened to me a few years ago. I was lifting weights pretty regularly when one day I felt a distinct pop. After that my shoulder popped often with a lot of discomfort. I went to the doctor and he said it was bursitis. It was really painful some days and I couldn't raise my arms but not so bad others. I did a lot of stretches and that was the one thing that really helped. Some people call it frozen shoulder. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bursitis I attached a link for you to read up on it. Maybe this will help. Good luck! |

| I work from home too so I totally feel your pain. I find it helps me eat better during the day (the way I think about it is that I am lucky to be able to have home cooked food available to me all of the time) but makes me super lazy about working out. My day seems to just mush together so unless I go to the gym first thing in the morning I don't seem to find the time. To help with your eating, I would try keeping a food log on here. You are on the computer all day anyway, take a few minutes to do something for yourself. You will still only be accountable to yourself but you seeing it written down makes it feel more serious. | |||

I think Hananabanana is right. The first step is to start thinking about how worth it the junk is to you. Is an order of french fries really so much better than a baked sweet potato that you would want to feel so bad about yourself? I am also really bad about lying to myself when I'm getting ready to start a diet. Its taken a few tries this time but I have really changed my mindframe about food lately. I'm now looking at food and asking myself "does that really taste good enough for me to get that much fatter?". Usually the answer is absolutely not. |
