I started waxing my legs and eyebrows at 11, when she starts asking and she's not REALLY young, I'd think it to be okay. |

If you're thirteen then you most definetly are not underweight, you definetly under-eat but you're not underweight
A 13 year old (female) child who is 90.0 pounds and 5 feet and 2 inches tall, has a body mass index of 16.5, which is at the 16.9th percentile and is considered to be a healthy weight.

in regards to the ensure, the chocolate ensure plus isn't bad if you like chocolate milk (tastes like a thicker chocolate milk, a little bit less milky), but personally, I'd steer clear of the strawberry. It's pretty gross. |

NO! 2000 and you wouldn't gain very quickly at all. When I was recovering I actually had to up my calories to 2500 before I gained at all, and I'm 4'10" and 87 lbs. (I was 72 then) Do you excercise? If not I'd aim for 2500, it should have you gaining at a pretty reasonable weight, or you can also use this calculator http://www.freedieting.com/tools/weight_gain_ calculator.htm it has how many calories you need to be eating, and the grams of carbs, proteins, and fats you should be eating if you want to gain it in muscle.

Same thing with the EKG and my body temp.
We were about to leave for vacation to go skiing, my doctor took my heart rate: 41 BMP, my temp. didn't even register on the thermometer, it was 93 degrees. She threatened to hospitalize me. Luckily she ended up not hospitalizing me and I was allowed to go on vacation if I promised to try to gain weight.
But those 10 minutes she was going to check me in were simply horrible. |

| you don't have to eat that many calories everyday! sometimes you can eat more or less. like i'm supposed to eat around 2200 to maintain, (I don't really count anymore) but like sometimes I'll have around 2500 other days maybe i'll have 1800... in the end it will all balance out. | |||

| it doesn't matter that much, it will all even out in the end. my nutritionist bumped me from 600 to 800 to 1200 to 1500 to 1800 then to 2100 in the course of 5 weeks so I'd reccomend maybe 200 a week? | |||

| Carmen, these calculators factor in around a one pound per month gain until you enter 14 years on the calculator so I'd subtract 125 from the number it gives you and you should have a fairly accurate estimate of maintence. :) | |||

| It doesn't matter what kind of foods they are selfmade, a calorie is a calorie. Fat content doesn't make you fat, junk doesn't either. The only thing with grade c food is a lot of them are high in sodium and cause bloating and water retention. | |||

| I totally believe what you're saying but there's no way if I ate healthy and to a point where I was "content" I could eat more than 1300. I have lately been trying to eat healthy vs. counting, and I am trying to up my activity level. I'm just saying by giving teens the number of 1800 and peacelovehominy saying to everyone "TEENS WILL LOSE WEIGHT ON A MINIMUM OF 1800" it's hurting their efforts because they probably won't lose on 1800 unless they are really tall or they up their activity. | |||

Age: 13 years old Height: 4'10" Weight: 82 lbs Current calorie intake: I'm trying eating intuitively but writing down what it is I'm eating intuitively, I just started last week but last week's averaging around 1200-1300 (I'm not restricting just seriously eating intuitively) Excercise: I have PE four days a week and we always run at least a mile, I walk to and from school which is 0.6 miles so 2.2 miles a day everyday but Wednesdays on which I have ice skating for 1.5 hours, then on weekends I normally walk to get breakfast with my friends (4 miles) and bike and hang out and stuff, but other than that I'm do almost nothing but homework, computer, and TV. lol.

Well of course 82 lbs is a bit unrealistic to expect to maintain my whole life, and as I grow taller 82 lbs will start to look really wierd. Looking at the heights of my parents I'm guessing I'll be around 5'3" and 82 lbs on 5'3" would look rather skeleton like. lol. I'm actually currently trying the whole eating intuitively method, I bought the book and have been reading it and really like the philosiphy, and your right I think that if you really learn how to like listen to your body it's harder to gain weight. :) |
