I don't really like chocolate. There. I said it. I do eat it occasionally, like once a month, maybe less and even then it's just a tiny bit. I really don't get how people can just eat an entire bar of chocolate in one go. Bleurgh. Also, peas, tomatoes, mushrooms, curry, chilli, sweetcorn and celery. |

Hi, I like juicing. I've tried nearly all of the ones in the Jason Vale Juice Master Book. They're all yummy! I haven't tried many of my own concoctions yet though except for melon and mango. |

| Weight Gain | ugh...don't even get near my calorie goal of 1200 daily...any suggestions? (sort of venting, but really need help and support) | Apr 09 2008 22:18 (UTC) |

I'm exactly the same. I hardly ever reach 1000 cals let alone 1200. I regularly have between 300-800 cals. The only times I ever get over 1000 are when I have a massive binge of junk, which doesn't happen very often (which is good because I totally freak out the day after and end up working out like crazy and not eating anything) I mostly eat vegetables and fruit. I know I'm not getting enough protein but the calories in it freak me out. I hate to eat things that are more than 100 cals and all meat is. I've tried really hard to get up to 1000 cals healthily but so far it hasn't worked. The nearest I've come is just over 900. I've tried the planning meals idea but I never stick to it because I keep looking at the packets and freaking out about the cals or the fat or the sugar content and then I can't eat it. It's so frustrating because I WANT to be healthy and normal and lose weight like normal people do. It just seems virtually impossible for me. Sorry, this hasn't given you any advice.....I suppose I just wanted to say that you're not alone in this problem. |

Hi. I was wondering if I could join this? I'm not very fit and am only just starting out so I won't be able to add as much as most of you but it would be nice to be able to contribute to something and I think it will motivate me a bit more. I have a treadmill in my living room now, which I plan to use. I get quite self conscious running out in public and I find that my legs hurt a lot more after running outside than on the treadmill. |

| Fitness | what's making my knees hurt? | Apr 09 2008 13:26 (UTC) |

I've had knee pain when exercising since I was a teenager. I was diagnosed with Osgood Schlatter Syndrome when I was younger. You're supposed to grow out of that but I was still getting pain when cycling and especially when running up until a year ago. I used to put medical tape around the bottom of my knee for support, which did help. And then I heard about gait analysis. There's a company that make trainers/sneakers (Whatever you call them) called Asics (www.asics.co.uk) and they tour the country doing gait analysis and recommend a specialist pair of trainers for you. I thought I'd go along and give it a go as they were coming to where I live. They get you on a treadmill and film your feet whilst walking and running with your normal trainers on and then they show you what your feet/ankles/knees do as you hit the ground. I was told that I severely over pronate and that was putting extreme pressure on my knees. I was shocked when he played it back for me. It looked like my ankles were on the verge of snapping everytime I hit the ground my feet rolled over so much. The man was really nice and he actually recommended a pair of Nike trainers rather than his company's trainers as he thought the Nike ones would be much better for my knee pain. I bought them and since then I get hardly any pain. I don't have to strap my knees up anymore and I can run for at least 30 mins without feeling anything. I still get the odd twinge but nowhere as near as what I used to get. I highly recommend going to have a gait analysis. |

I've been putting all sorts in......apples, pears, oranges, carrots, pineapple, melon, berries, celery, ginger, spinach, watercress, beetroot......you name it, I've probably juiced it! So, I'll just tot up the calories as if it was just normal fruit then? God, that will soon add up! Thanks for your help. |

I belong to an Espota gym, which costs me £55 per month. They wanted £100 joining fee but I said I wasn't paying that so they reduced it to just a £20 admin fee. Included in the price is 3 initial sessions with a trainer, gym access, pool access, spa access and all classes. I worked out that I need to go at least 3 times a week to be cost effective, otherwise it's just a waste of money. |

Teenage Chavettes in the gym Always come in pairs, always wearing those tacky, cheap, velour tracksuit bottoms too long for their short, pudgy legs, accessorised with an overspill of flab, barely covered by a colour co-ordinated vest top. The uniform is set off by a full face of make-up applied with a trowl, hair preened to perfection with 8 gallons of hairspray, and 18 sets of gold Elizabeth Duke hoop earrings dragging their earlobes to the ground. They then proceed to wander around the gym giggling for an hour, with the occasional five minute bursts of exercise, during which they work out at the same rate as a 90-year-old man with no legs or arms. After this "gruelling" workout they then head for the scales and wonder why they haven't lost any weight, then saunter out, having not dropped one bead of sweat. It's a gym, not a fashion parade. Why not spend your mum's fiver elsewhere, like on a new top from Primark or a MacDonald's. Or just bugger off. |
