Des Moines, Iowa!! Okay, so it's not exactly an exciting city as far as things to do and see, but I LOVE it and MISS it sooo much! In high school I was so sick of it and desperate to get out, so I went to school 13 hours away in Pittsburgh and have basically been homesick for my Iowa ever since. Now I live even farther away in Philly where my husband goes to school and I seriously am counting down the days until I can return to at least the Midwest, if not good ol Iowa! I think Des Moines is seriously the perfect size city. It's big enough that it has PLENTY of shopping (that's frankly the #1 thing I look forward to about going home!) and it has quite a few nice restaurants. It has been continually growing--every time I go home there is something new that has popped up. It literally takes about 15-20 minutes to get ANYwhere in the entire city, and even during rush hour with construction, I could get from my western suburban home to downtown in 30-40 minutes. I especially miss the ease of getting places easily and having streets actually make SENSE (Philly and Pittsburgh are ridiculously hard to get around in!). It's also great because there are lots of wooded areas and if you want to be in a more rural area, you simply need to drive an extra 10 or so minutes and there you go, the middle of nowhere! And finally, it's a great place to raise a family! Like any city, it has it's bad parts, but for the most part it is a very safe city with friendly Midwesterners and great school systems! *sigh* I'm homesick :( 560 or so days till we can leave Philly!! |

| Cantaloupe smootie- disgusting!!! Cantaloupe does NOT go well with any sort of dairy product, even fruity yogurt blech
I also tried to make an "adult" pumpkin smoothie by adding some Captain Morgan's Spiced rum with some pumpkin and some other ingredients I can't even remember now.. anyways, "spiced" rum sounds good with pumpkin, right? NOPE! I think part of the problem was that it was really runny, maybe a thicker, ice cream-based smoothie would have been better, I dunno. But it was gross, and I love both pumpkin and Captain! I'm sure I have lots of other gross things I've done because I'm known for my substituting since I hate peppers and onions, so if a recipe includes them, I tend to just throw some other random veggie I have lying around, which doesn't always work out very well, at least not to my husband's liking! One random thing I tried that actually wasn't too bad was putting peanut butter on a baked potato! Sounded kind of gross, but I really wanted pb and my husband had already baked a potato for me, so I used pb instead of butter and it actually wasn't too bad! |

| Weight Loss | Tips on ignoring food cravings! | Nov 14 2007 17:35 (UTC) |

Here are some of the tips I *try* to do (doesn't always happen!): Drink lots of water Get some tea or coffee, and if you're craving sugar, add some Splenda for some sweetness or have *one* diet soda (I always figure one a day can be all that bad for you) Chew gum! Brush your teeth after eating- I find that sometimes it's not that I'm hungry, it's just that I don't like the taste that is in my mouth, so if I brush my teeth, my mouth tastes great! And if you really, really need something, I keep healthy snacks on hand to handle both my sweet and salty cravings, things like raisins, nuts, pretzels, diet hot chocolate, rice cakes If you're somewhere that serves dessert for free (how can you say no?), then just have a few bites of it. That way you won't feel left out, but you also don't have to feel bad about not finishing it because it was free! Or find someone to split it with you |

| Weight Loss | Arbonne | Nov 14 2007 16:56 (UTC) |

| I know you posted this a while ago, but I was searching around to see if anyone uses the Arbonne stuff and came across your post, so I thought I'd respond. My mom uses a whole bunch of the Arbonne products and I tried her chai tea protein shake and became ADDICTED! They taste SOOO good and for only 110 calories, 1.5g of fat, and 8g of carbs you get 18g!! of protein and lots of other vitamins and minerals. I usually first mix mine with a little water to get it soluble, then I add soy milk to it- I think it's a little too watery if you just use water. I do have some of the tea, but I don't really use it- seems kind of strange that a tea would help you lose weight. But hey if you like tea, can't hurt to try it! As far as the other weight loss products, I'm not really sure, my mom uses some of them and seems to be happy with them, though she also eats pretty healthy. Hope this helps- even if it's a few months after your post! | |||

| I agree as well! I think it would be great if there was a drag and drop function where you could just drag a food that was already there to another day, or move it around from say lunch to snack if you accidentally categorized it incorrectly. It was also be a nice function if you could tell it just to copy yesterday's food log, since I know I usually eat a similar breakfast and lunch almost every day. | |||

If you're small (think 34B or smaller) and need a budget bra, I actually really like the Fruit of the Loom ones at Wal-Mart: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?pro duct_id=5645734 Less than $10 for three bras- can't beat that! I don't like racer-backs (they pinch my armpits!), so I was sooo happy when I found these that are really comfortable, cheap, and lots of fun colors! |

| I'm glad I read through these posts- I LOVE peanut butter, but I hate how many calories and fat is in it. I know it's "good for you" but I really wanted to find a peanut butter that was a little lower in fat and calories but wasn't just the weird natural stuff with only peanuts and salt- I need a little sweetness in my pb! I'm excited to head out to the stores in search of some of the pbs mentioned here! | |||

| This isn't a recipe, but at Trader Joe's right now they are selling a FABULOUS pumpkin butter! I seriously went through a jar in less than a week and had to go back and stock up on it! Only $2.29 a jar and only 40 calories, no fat per 1 tbsp serving! It's good just on crackers or toast, but I think you could use it to make some good desserts as well! | |||

| This has been a fascinating Forum! I'm glad I took the time to read through it. I'm really quite excited to try the one with hot chocolate- I love the Diet Swiss Miss! I'm hoping this tastes as good as it sounds so that I can convince my husband to eat it- he is so anti-healthy foods and fat free foods! Maybe I can experiment on some of his friends by bringing it to a Halloween party and see how people like it. Orange cheesecake anyone? :) | |||

One of the key things is to make sure you have several different HEALTHY snacks readily available. I tried not having snacks around, but then if I was dying of hunger, I would just go the vending machine and try to get something healthy, but you know how hard that can be. Plus if you have several options, like something salty, something crunchy, and something sweet, you should have all of your cravings covered in your snack drawer. I also try to plan when I'm going to eat, as suggested above. I have a protein shake and cereal for breakfast and then try my very best to make it until 11:00 and then I have a healthy snack like nuts or pretzels. Then, depending on when I'm hungry, I eat a Weight Control Oatmeal for lunch around 12:30 or 1. I like to bring this for my main thing for lunch because the portion is controlled and so I know exactly what I'm eating. I also bring an apple and yogurt and sometimes carrots for lunch, but I never eat them with my oatmeal. I save them until I start feeling hungry later and just eat one at a time as I feel hungry. Spreading them out really helps keep me from munching on extra unnecessary items. Also sometimes, when I really have a craving, I find getting a tea w/ splenda or a diet pop helps to stave off cravings. Usually I'm just bored with drinking water, so drinking something sweet helps. |

How often should you eat during the day?
It is neither necessary to eat every two hours nor to stop eating at 6:00 PM. As long as your calorie intake is less than your output... Read more
