What they said! I love running at night, and it doesn't cause any problems as long as I get done with an hour or more to decompress afterward. |

| Fitness | How long will I be sore for? | Dec 31 2008 02:52 (UTC) |

muscle soreness is often worst the second day after your workout. It is called DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness). It will go away this week. And you'll get less sore after workouts as your body gets used to the exercises. You'll still get sore again when your body does something else new and unfamiliar. |

Instead of 3 sessions of steady state cardio, you'd be better off with at least 1-2 shorter interval sessions and 1-2 sessions of moderate to longer distance. |

You aready have two interval sessions, so thats good. Walking is wonderful but low intensity and takes a long time. You can replace one of the 1 hour walks with 30 minutes medium-intensity rowing - burns the same calories, uses different muscles. Or 30 minutes walking uphill - somewhat higher intensity, less time. And replace on of the long walks with run/jog, building up to 30-45 minutes jogging, so you save 15-30 minutes, and have a nice long run. |

chasingjames, if you don't want to accept permanent limitations, you probably don't need to. If you did want to get back to jogging, after you heal, you could probably succeed by building up much more slowly. |

| Weight Loss | did my (unintentional) error matter in counting calories and weight loss? | Dec 24 2008 12:51 (UTC) |
|
It probably did not make a huge difference. The key number to pay attention to is your deficit. Based on your other posts, cc probably thinks that you burn 3200 based on hour age height weight and activity level. So 2200 would ba a 1000 calorie deficit, and 1900 would be a 1300 cal. deficit. |

| Health & Support | A slight rant about carbohydrates & weight gain | Dec 24 2008 01:56 (UTC) |

re: figureathlete - before getting on cc and meeting people who are into body building, figure competition, and that style of training, I had no experience with that lifestyle whatsoever. The more I look, the practices that people use to look like body builders and figure athletes seem very unhealthy when taken to a high level. Weight lifting, strength, building muscle, having a relatively low body fat level are very healthy in moderation. But the extreme diets and very low body fat do not seem all that healthy imo.

hi, t2t, you really really want this to get better soon, but it sounds like this is a problem that has been building up for a long time. I'm sorry that your docs haven't been able to identify the causes yet, and you haven't gotten great medical advice. "Eat more" is probably part of it but not enough, there are likely other medical issues. Please be persistent. You will need to take charge of your medical care and keep going to doctors until you find a plausible explanation and treatment that works. |

It sounds like you should get a second opinion from a different doctor. You sound like you know your body and something isn't right. Your doctor isn't listening, and some of what he's saying isn't making sense (the recommended calories). Go to someone who will investigate various potential medical causes. |

Wow, I can really see that insecurity issue from your dad's point of view. He is terrified of losing his connection to his daughter since his marriage has broken up. Of course he is going about trying to renew that connection in a very unhelpful way. If you last talked about this two years ago, it sounds like a great time to bring it up, since his fears are dominating his perception. You can tell him that you love him, and will love him regardless of gifts. You can tell him that you want to spend time with him, negotiate schedules that work for you, and tell him that he doesn't need to re-remind everybody to make it happen. |

At age 15, your body is still maturing. Given your age and activity level, you probably need 2600-3000 daily. If you've been trying to keep to 2000, you're probably hungry because your body needs more food than that. |

This is the "kiddush" ritual to say a blessing over wine before a holiday meal, yes? If you don't want to drink wine for this ritual, then grape juice is religiously just fine. Tell your dad you prefer grape juice. Simply listening to a 3 minute song and blessing, and taking a sip of grapejuice? Just do it. |

kmleela, I really think you should be varying your cardio some more: You described your routine as follows, 5 days per week.
Instead of doing the same cardio workout 5 days per week: * substitute cycling or rowing or some other exercise some days By adding variety and alternating easier and harder workouts you will reduce burnout. |

That is too frequent interval training. It's best to have a 48 hour break between sessions of intervals. Mix up your cardio, with some days doing short intervals, longer intervals, and distance. |
