Original Post by brtaylor: I have to agree, I am getting comments all the time that I am to thin. but I am 25 pounds from my HIGH end of my BMI and I kind of get irritated. I know BMI's are relative, you could have more muscle mass and bla bla bla... but BMI's are great guideline to go by. And I definitely want to be IN the healthy range. |

I think it affects it greatly. I went to Scotland for 3 weeks. We walked everywhere. AND shopping was HUGE over there. We walked to the grocery store, to the malls, to eat or bar hopping.
In 3 weeks I lost WITHOUT trying, 10 pounds. I ate plenty, and the food was richer BUT more wholesome. So my eating really stayed the same. IT was all the extra activities. And I was active before. I would walk to and from classes all the time and I still worked out. I am an artist so I was always on my feet printing photos, doing lithographs and other Printmaking images. But going to the UK was the best thing ever, opened my eyes to how the US works. I would love to like in the UK. I love there philosophy of life, culture and work ethics. THEY know how to live a well rounded life.
Just my two cents. |

Original Post by adidas19: I actually agree with this statement. But this is a PROCESSES to get rid of all the processed junk. I started eating a lot of Weight watcher stuff (since I am on WW) and now eliminated most of that stuff. However, you will never fully get rid of all processed foods. Breads are processes, FIber one bars are processed, cereals are processed, soups and veggie burgers are processed and ketchup, mustard, dressings, pickles and other condiments... I dont think there is a way to completely rid yourself of ALL junk. And you shouldn't. We all like chips and dips.... So in my journey of losing, I started out with LOTS of processed foods. AND now I shop mainly around the store and not in the isles. I try to eat MAINLY WHOLE foods. Foods I have to cook. No boxed rice, real rice, no boxed cous cous, raw cous cous. Raw veggies to roast, steam or eat raw, or even veggies that are frozen are great. BUT NOT CANNED veggies for me to much added crap. Its like a ying and yang... and balance act. So in my opinion we should be eating 75% of our foods in the Natural form, which means " it grows from the ground or has a mother" (quoted from Jillian on the Doctors). Breads are hard unless you are doing it yourself and who has all the time. The key is to check the labels on EVERYTHING. Looked for whole wheat, NOT enriched bleached wheat... or what ever it says. Look for the high fructose corn syrups and PUT IT BACK on the shelf ASAP. Things with aspartame... start eliminating them or cutting back. I loved soda, but then cut it down to ONE a WEEK. I dont crave it or care for it as much either. Chrystal light drinks... lessoned those as well to about once a week. Its a balancing act that takes time to adjust too! Moderation is the key But I NEVER eliminate ANY THING because thats the day I WANT that item. Even though white bread is poison, it still tastes good. SO I might have a BIT every now and then. Eat lots of lean meats (or proteins if your a vegetarian) Eat lots of fruits and veggies Eat WHOLE grains Lessen the sugars you eat (fake or real, but stick with real sugars when possible) Get 6-8 glasses of liquids (I still think Water is the best) Get 2-3 servings of dairy (or dairy substitute like soy) take a multivitamin (as we lose weight we are UNDER eating what our bodies need, so to make sure you get the nutrients, take a vitamin) Get your healthy Oils in (usually the same time frame as the vitamin... as its best absorbed with oils), so like Olive oils, canola oils, nuts, avocados... Just my two cents....

Seriously. You ARE at a healthy weight. So why this goal to be ultra TO thin. Its NOT attractive or healthy at all.
I think you need to rethink things and get some help. You already noted that you have an eating disorder and have an unhealthy outlook towards your body and foods.
Learn that food is necessary for living. If you dont want to live, which I am assuming you do, then just stop eating. I am not condoning this, just stating. Food is important, healthy food is vital for all your organs to work properly. You are young and apparently naive in life. You want what you want and you want it now. Life doesnt work that way. You have to work hard for things in life. Get some help before you hurt yourself and the people around you that love you. |

Anna is right. Eat more for a few WEEKS and see how it changes. Eat your Activite cals back for a few weeks. WHen you cut calories and add workouts you are creating an even bigger deficit. Your total deficit should be about 500 cals per day. Also strength training is a great thing to be doing, but dont be afraid of heavy weights. You wont bulk, you dont have enough testosterone to get that bulk. But the more muscle, the better your motabolizm is. Also doing ab work, ie crunches, sit ups, the plank, yoga, pilaties and so on, will help to a degree. I have the same stomach issue. Cardio is key but tightening those muscles will eventually give you definition and help pull in that stomach.
Hope that help |

Yes, you need way more calories then you are getting. I joined Weight watchers (not promoting, although I do love it) so we deal in points. But I will try and calculate in calories. I am a 180 pound woman (started at 255) at 5'4" tall. I feel I have a medium frame. I get 26 points so I am taking a guess at how many cals but I would say any where around 1500. But I also burn 3500 cals in a week. I normally eat most of those burned calories back. THis is why. WHen you are consuming less calories already, THEN burning more, your body needs to refuel. You NEVER want to be more the 500 daily calorie deficit. SO you can eat 200 less and burn 300. OR eat the same and burn 500, or not workout and eat 500 less (although they dont recommend that, at least from what I have read). Eating 800 cals a day is Terrible on your metabolizm. It can affect your health for the rest of your life. Fixing your metabolizm by lifting wieghts 2-3 times a week. AND EAT a balance of Fruit/veggies (5 servings), lean meats (2-3), Dairy (1-3), Whole grains (3+ or so) and so on. AND Dont forget to drink, drink, drink that water/fluids. Hope that helps! |

Its been a while, how are things going? I have been doing well. I am now down to 184 (start weight of 255, 140 goal weight). Weight watchers and this site are the most helpful for me. I actually started running back in May and did my first 5K in September where I did ok, but got sick and couldnt run for 2 weeks so now I am working on getting back up to 3.5 miles again like I had been running. I am at 2.25 miles right now. BUt I started doing cycling and Zumba and a bunch of other classes that are fun. Hope everyone is doing well. Keep up the great work. |

That is true, before WW I NEVER put oils in the pan, I just used water and seasonings. Boiled it basically till all heated through, THEN let it brown on the outside. And right before I was about done, I would add a little more water and let it cook a bit to re-juice up the chicken a bit. But on a side note. unless the salad dressing is plain oil and vinegar, the oils in lets say ranch or french are NOT the good stuff and you never know how much of the essantial oils you are getting. SO just beware of that. I was a huge dowser in dressing, its one of my downfalls. BUt now I know the difference. ANd just wanted to let you know, you are looking great.

Thanks for the info. I will bring that to my WW leader, because we just talked about that and heating those oils were fine so that was what I was brought to believe. There is a science behind weight watchers, but I will look more into it. Thanks again, my mistake. Do you know of any oils that ARE good to use when heating up? SInce I cook with it I want it to be benificial. I have a hard time just coating somethings with it, although I could do that I guess. |

I agree with you to a point. Olive oil IS good for you. Everyone needs oils. It helps hair, skin and nails stay healthy. Its best to get that oil in original form such as from nuts or avocados but those are also high in calories, where as a a teaspoon of olive oil is still good and lower in calories. As for the heating part. Olive ol is fine heated. Flex seed oils are not good heated at all. Infact you are NOT supposed to heat Flex oils as well as some others. But olive and canola oils are ment to be heated (or can be used cold too). And if you want to go the heated route, veggies are best if not heated either but we do that. Not hear to argue just trying to share my point of view too. I have lost 30 pounds off weight watchers using there program (about 1 pound a week on average) which says to get 2 teaspoons a day of oils, whether from original forms or from olive oils. Its worked for me, keeps me satisfied and I have been very successful. |

I am on Weight watchers, but still love this site With that said. Oils are essential part of losing weight as well as just daily living. We are to get 2 TEASPOONS of good oils like Olive oil a day. So if you still like your olive oil just use a teaspoon or 2 instead of 1 tablespoon (which has 3 teaspoons in it). Also when cooking meat like that you probably are NOT getting ALL the oils. But counting like you do is good as well. I like just adding my values separatly instead of adding them together. THis way I know where all the calories are coming from. I do not consider it frying, this is how I make my chicken as well. I think frying something, like you said, would need to have a huge amount of oils in it. |

Thanks, both of you, SO doing 3 runs at 3.5 a week was to much? I never would have thought. I guess I have a lot to learn. I started running at 1.25 on the treadmill and then started outside (which I prefer, but sometimes motherhood gets in the way and I cannot run outside, not good at stroller runs yet). SO if I do like mkculs said, do one 2 mile, one 2.5 and one long run a week that should be good? Odd but ok, I can do that. I know that my first run should be just to get my feet wet, but I just want to finish strong... and I felt strong 3 weeks ago, and then I lost some of it... SO maybe I have been over doing it.... for me! Thanks, that makes sense! |

As for me from top weight (pregnancy 265, post baby 235), I am now down to 206, so about 29 pounds). I am just thrilled and dedicated to get out of the 200 after going on 3+ years. I am now down to my pre-pregnancy weight and working on getting rid of my post married weight. My lowest was 170 a long time ago, in college, but my goal is 140. You all are great inspiration and wonderful successes, keep it up.
kata61882, Think of what you like doing, like dancing, walking outside with some music, swimming. Then find a video like Turbo Jam, or Budokon (mixture of Yoga and Martial arts) or Biggest loser. Get a few to change it up. Use those 1-2 times a week and maybe just walk 1-2 times a week. Don't go over board to fast, then you will get over worked and not want to keep going. If you don't workout now, just do 1-2 things per week and gradually add more time or more days and so on. I started out with 2 days a week at 30 minutes, then added another day of 30 minutes, then added some time to those 3 days, now I am up to after 5 months doing 5-6 days a week at 45-90 minutes per day. And they are never the same. I walk once a week, run 2 times a week, do a video 2-3 times a week and do the elliptical 2 times a week. I also am starting to do more strength training.
victoriagirl, WOW good for you. You looked great at 275. And your amazing for doing it again. I joined Weight watchers to figure out what I have been doing wrong, and the one thing that I think is important is that we don't limit our foods. This is a LIFE LONG journey not a diet. So if you want bacon eat some just not what you normally would eat. Like I would normally eat maybe 7-10 pieces, now I eat 2-3. I can still enjoy them, just be wise about how much. It looks like you are doing just that. So keep it up. Love your attitude. |

HOw do you feel the next day? Right after I do my sets I feel fine too, its in the morning that I start feeling sore. I agree with the other poster. I would increase your weights and do 8 reps ets... ALso make sure you are changing up your workout regiment. Your body adjusts to doing the same types of workouts after so often. Like for me one week, I will run and elliptical 2 times a week (or 3 if I can), then I also do different videos 2-3 times a week and also walk 2-3 times a week, just to change it up. I also add some weight training or do a sculpting video just to change it up. Your body gets board... so dont let it, and it might pay off. Good luck, sounds like your doing well though. Moving is the main thing and your doing it! |

Original Post by agentstarling: I agree, I know my husband loves me too, so I am doing this for me and for my new baby girl (9 months yesterday) so I can get my thoughts and feelings about myself in order before she is well aware that her mama is uncomfortable with herself. My husband too is a thin rail but has started getting a soda gut. I used to get so mad at how much he did NOT eat and I felt like such a pig eating normal sized meals. But then I realized he eats really unhealthy food like fast food and frozen pizza all the time AND he drinks about 1000-1500 cals of soda a day. So now I dont feel bad, now I am just trying to get him to drink less and eat healthier so we can be a healthy family. |

I agree, shorts suck! I hate my thighs, they have always been my worst trait. Buts its not just the look thing to me, its that shorts ride up when I walk. I have to always pull them down. I wear skirts or dresses, usually long to hide my chunky legs but sometimes a shorter one works too. This way it makes me cooler in the heat, feel sexy in my own way and no riding of the shorts. Yes there is the rubbing of the leg but I can deal with that |

Some one of your hight and weight is at a good weight range. 5'10" 132-145 at about 21 BMI. You dont need to lose much if any at all. You are healthy as you are. I would say the main issue is stress. You need to eat about 2000 cals to maintain you current weight. If you workout you need to either eat the 2000 cals or if you dont workout minus you food intake by 500 cals a day. But you are not fat or large by any means. Good luck in college. Just eat healthy and stay active to keep your stress down and you will be fine. I remember those days. SLow down and enjoy them while they last and worry less. Thats what makes you tired and sluggish. Great job on getting to 145.
