ooooo HELLO!!! I'm so sorry to be the load in the group. We're traveling. I thought that finding a scale would be easier than it's been but have one scoped and ready to use. PLUS we have a s l o w internet connection here so that's been depressing. I'm still on the program and will report in this week. SORRY! Looks like you're all doing so well. THANKS to Lily for the gentle e-mail.

There was a news report today about women who are a size 14 being happier than the sticks we see so much of in magazines, movies, and on TV. I'm not going to get into THAT but it was interesting that the people they interviewed on the negative side of the argument said that no one could possibly be happy at that size because they wouldn't be "fit" and able to get out and exercise. GRRRRR! I'm that size and play killer tennis every day. OK....I suppose I would get around the court better with some of this weight off but I think it's not helpful to say you can't be a bigger girl and be fit or enjoy exercise. And while I'm on THAT rant...where are the cute exercise clothes for big girls. I'm not particularly happy to wear an oversized t-shirt and some stretch shorts to the gym or on the court. Any ideas? Cheers everyone!!!

FOOD! I got hungry just reading your lists! Somedays it's anything that's crunchy and salty. The next it's anything gooey and sweet. There's such a tiny number of foods I wouldn't binge on: liver, kidneys, raw fish.......The rest is just a PROBLEM!!! The biggest bug bear is BREAD. LOVE IT but try NOT to eat it most days.

Hey everyone. Have enjoyed reading your interesting stories.

I'm a life long dieter. I lost 35 pounds on Adkins about 5 years ago and have put 10 of that back on but stillllllll need to lose 30 to get to my goal weight. Love these motivational challenges. Don't want to let you all down OR myself.

I'm retired and spend most of my time traveling which makes dieting difficult. I sit and watch as my husband has treat after treat and weighs in every week having lost weight or stayed the same. That's men for you. How I envy his metabolism. We're keen tennis players and rarely are anywhere with a car so we walk a lot and play tennis almost every day. Exercise isn't hard to get but it's the right sort of exercise that's lacking. I know I need to do more weight training and cardio work.

Good luck to all!

Bake two plums (cut in half with the stone removed) cut side down on a lightly buttered pan. Sprinkle with Splenda. Bake for 20 minutes in a hot oven. Put baked plums in a bowl with a bit of non-fat plain yogurt on top and some Special K cereal for crunch. This is so sweet and gooey! Great way to end a meal on a cold evening.

I've been off the wagon a bit starting with becoming VERY lax in writing things down in the food and exercise diary. I'm only up .5 pound this week so I'm BACK AT IT. The days are going by so fast and each day I put off losing a bit of weight toward my 25 pound goal is one day longer I have to obsess about it. The cold weather has derailed me a bit as i always get hungrier in cooler weather and I get trapped in the house with FOOD when the weather turns ugly. I know what I must do so now:

Down 1.1 pounds this week. Not much BUT I'LL TAKE IT! This sure is SLOW but I'm back into all of my clothes and going out of some....the the good way. Some of my trousers are getting baggy. In this economy, it's a good idea to keep from having to shop, eh? Wonder how that electric blue suit I bought 15 years ago will play at a cocktail party I'm going to tonight? NOT GOOD, I'm SURE.

I weighed the same last Monday which is a miracle, really, as there were a few treats. I MUST keep the food diary but haven't done it this week. Today's a new day, right? My next mini-goal is to have the next ten pounds off by my birthday in early November. I must be vigilant logging in every day to count those calories. It's also been raining so much that my usual outdoor tennis matches have been cancelled. Going to the gym is SUCH a bore but I know it's good for me to change my exercise routine and shake up my metabolism. I'm just having trouble maintaining the enthusiasm I had at the beginning of this back in August. And I wonder why I have a weight problem?

Original Special K is my new snack food! It has the crunch I long for and is just sweet enough on its own to feel like a treat. I eat it without milk with raisins for a snack. The problem is, of course, I can NOT control how much of it I'm eating. I've sworn NOT to try the other flavors in the range. Just too tempting!

I was reading this thread and hit the word "brownies" which caused me to remember a dream I had last night.....I binged in my dream only, thank goodness! I was at my Mother's house and found a tray of gooey caramel covered brownies and an artfully designed tower of homemade chocolates and went face down on them with abandon! Then I panicked wondering how I was going to rejoin the family having eaten half a tray of brownies and ruining the chocolate tower my Mother had so painstakenly assembled! When I woke up with a start, I really DID wonder if I'd have to count the calories in my dream.Tongue out

Decided to do a midweek weigh in to make sure I'm on track and HOORAY, I was down 2.6 pounds from MONDAY. I'm back on track having lost that pesky pound that went on last week. Went for tea with my darling hubby yesterday and watched him consume a lovely pain au rasin while I had a diet coke. I was very happy I watched when I stepped on the scale this morning. Highly motivating!

WHAAAA! Up a pound this week but at least I know why. There was a naughty burger during a lovely meal at an outdoor bbq restaurant. It tasted reallllllly good. Plus I laid off of exercise for two days as my body was telling me to ease up a bit. But now I'm back on the wagon! Don't like stepping on the scale and seeing this up tick.

I live between the UK and the USA. I can get into my UK GP literally in minutes. I call and they say, "Can you be here in 10?" Granted....it's a post code lottery here and I happen to live in a good post code with a great clinic.  In the USA I can wait for weeks to see my GP and if I need immediate help, I am usually shuffled off to the clinic where the waits are horrible AND I don't see my doctor. For that pleasure I'm paying $7,000 a year as I'm not old enough for medicare but no longer am working. What's the difference if my taxes go up in the USA to pay for health care for all? Are they going to go up a whapping $7 grand? Are my children going to be freed of this horrible health care burden for themselves and their children? We're the only country that seems to think employers are responsible for the health care of their employees. What's that about? Why are they any more responsible financially than the government (we tax payers) should be. We easily get our heads around employers bearing the responsibility but balk at the government taking that on? Get real!

Weight Gain "wash-out phase" Aug 11 2008

Your description is helpful. It's the closest thing to withdrawal symptoms I ever care to experience. For me it runs from a feeling of general malaise and fatigue to that "washed out" feeling one gets when you're coming down with the flu. For me it's my body purging itself of sugar and carb over-load. Several years ago I did Adkins religiously starting with the two week induction mode. My face broke out wildly, hot flashes intensified HUGELY, and my lower tract all but shut down. MISERY!!! However, once through the purge of sugar, I felt better than I've felt in yonks. I fell off a 5 year wagon a bit and now am back on counting calories and leaving those nasty sugars and white food out of my diet. I experienced about a week of the same lack of energy but now am bouncing around happily, and sleeping much better, too. It's amazing how sugar and a high carbohydrate diet intensifies hot flashes for me. That alone can motivate me to stay on track. I guess you actually ARE what you eat.

Editing the speed of the songs on my iPod so I'm walking faster...it's so motivating!

Walking almost everywhere...burning calories AND saving £1 on every trip.

Cutting out the afternoon snack. This is a dangerous time for my eating....I need to get out of the house without taking any money and have a walk. By the time I return it's time to prepare supper.

When I'm realllllly in trouble, eating a banana is a real treat. I had my first banana in years the other day when every bakery in town threatened to derail my weight loss efforts. That banana saved me 300+ calories.
