| Vegetarian | Which vegan milk brands do yo like best? | Feb 16 2009 08:09 (UTC) |

I prefer soy milk. I recently tried almond milk and it was all right. Almond milk is good with my cereal but, I use soy milk for most things. I plan on trying rice milk, I have never had it before. |

Dogs and cats are pets and if they are left without owners they will die because they do not hunt for their own food like wild animals do.... Anyway, I'm a vegan & my dogs are vegetarians. They have sensitive stomachs so the food they eat has to be gentle on their stomachs. If you look online you'll find that being a vegetarian is healthy for dogs and cats too. I use the vegetarian formula from Natural Balance, my dogs like it and also the company does NO animal testing which is good, of course. I get mine from Petco, they have a website and you can see if they sell them at a retailer near you. |

| Vegetarian | Another question...Where are the microwavable vegan meals? | Mar 25 2008 23:19 (UTC) |

They are usually in the aisle with the meat substitutes and also in the frozen meal aisles. Amy's makes some great easy dinners, they cost about $ dollars where I live. Also Boca is good (it is in a red box). They have good soy burgers and good meatless nuggets, I usually cut up the nuggets and put them in a salad. They are soooooo good. |

Try to eat things they eat that are suitable for vegetarians. For example: if your family eats cereal get some cereals such as Cheerios or Trix. If they eat fruits and veggies be sure to get lots of those for meals and snacks. And lettuce for salads. You can get some potatoes and make fries or have baked potatoes for lunch or dinner-ask if your family would like that....etc. There are things that vegetarian and vegans eat that meat eaters eat as well. You just have think about everything your family eats and see if there are things suitable for a vegetarian diet. I don't have a job (I'm 17) and my parents income in extremely limited but its pretty affordable. If you can, ask your parents if you can clean the house or do something for them and see if they will pay you for it that way you can buy food for yourself. I'm sure it might be difficult, but where there is a will there is a way :) Good luck!! Congrats on wanting to become a vegetarian, you can do it!! |

| Vegetarian | What type of -tarian or -egan are you? | Dec 10 2007 05:18 (UTC) |

I'd just say a regular vegetarian. I don't eat any type of meat-- fish, eggs, and I limit my dairy and cheese intake. I mostly consume soy milk instead of milk from cows. I try to stay away from animal by-products as much as possible such as gelatin, and honey. But, starting Jan 1 of 2008 I will be a complete vegan who consumes no animal by-products what so ever. I'm really good at sticking to my New Years Resolutions |

Me too, I'll chew the gum to try to avoid the food but then I end up eating the food anyway. I can't lie to myself and say gum tastes better than chocolate cake!! |

| Oh, I know how that is. I do the same thing. I won't even be hungry but I'll still go and eat even though I know I don't need too. It drives me nuts! I try to chew gum to avoid snacking. | |||

Well, thats what I have been doing. Until last night everything was great but I was feeling upset so I wanted something so I could binge. I wanted some chocolate or ice cream or something. I didn't have any of that so I ate peanut butter, cake frosting, "chicken" nuggets and fries, etc. Today I was a little upset and I bought some skinny cow ice cream thinking if I want something sweet I'll have one, I had four of them (the whole box-600 calories)........... :( Its difficult

| I actually have always loved chicken too. There is a brand called Boca and they have meatless foods. Their chicken nuggets are to die for!! I love them, I just had my dad try them the other day and he is a big meat eater but he said that if I didn't tell him it wasn't chicken then he wouldn't even know. And my dad is someone who is very, very picky. | |||

| Thanks, yes that helps. I am a vegetarian but I will be converting to a vegan starting January 1st so I was wondering if that would be suitable for a vegan. I am making a cake for Thanksgiving and I suppose I'll use Duncan Hines but I think in the near future when I become a vegan I'll make my own homeade cake mix just to be 100% positive. Thanks though---very helpful :) | |||

I won't be near a scale on Monday however I weighed myself today. So just so I don't forget I'm going to go ahead and post my weigh-in today--on Friday. Started at: 132 Current: 130 Goal: I'd settle for losing another 5 pounds by Christmas, so 125--for now :) I hope I meet my goal. |

Kudos on wanting to become a vegetarian. I've actually just became one myself 2 weeks ago. So far so good. The hardest part is just having things to eat that are vegetarian suitable and that you like. I'm a picky eater as well but there are many things that people eat every day from popular brands that are vegetarian but they just don't know it. Peta.com helped me a lot, they have a lot of recipes, food lists, advice, menu sample ideas, etc. I don't hate beans but I don't love them, I don't think you being a picky eater will cause many problems, you'd be suprised on how many things you can eat that are vegetarian and delicious |

| unfortunately i have not. although when I crave pizza I usually have South Beach Diet and get the one that is 340 calories. If you have to you can have a lower calorie meal for breakfast or lunch and then have the pizza for dinner that way you don't consume too many calories. | |||

| Yes, I agree that it is very different depending on the way your body is built. For me I'm 5 ft 4in and at 145 I was wearing a size zero and sometimes a size two. Now at 132 I still wear a size zero or a size two. | |||

| Foods | Fasting | Nov 16 2007 07:13 (UTC) |

| I'm actually interested in fasting, however I "tried" it once. I read tha Matt Damon or someone like that fasted and drank 3 8 oz. cups of orange juice a day and lost a lot of weight in a week or so. I decided to try it since they said any type of fruit juice is okay but I listerally only lasted a few hours. I was so hungry. I have a big apetite and I think if I did the Lemonade diet that I'd be deathly hungry and very weak. | |||
| Foods | What do you plan on doing for Thanksgiving? | Nov 16 2007 05:42 (UTC) |

I actually have never had pumpkin pie Although I've decided to just say screw it and eat whatever that way I can have just ONE day where I don't have to cry over every morsel of food that enters my body. I'm really not good at trying to make the best of it and eat healthy foods like veggies and salads. I'm one of those people that if I see something like mashed potatoes around or stuffing I'll go for a lot of that rather than having a salad or just eating a little portion. its a curse but also around my family I know I will feel pressured. I wiould feel uncomfortable with them questioning me about not eating everything thats on the table. Unfortunately I don't have my dad's fast metabolism. I'm just going to have one day out of this whole month where I eat whatever I want. Only one day though, but I'm going to have to be able to tell myself no when I've had too much, the next day I'll be out running half way across the world trying to burn the calories and I'll stay away from the scales for a week or two. The worst that can happen is for me to gain a pound or two which isn't great but I'm hopeful I'll burn it off by the time my bro, sister in law and niece come to town. I'm going to make chocolate cake for thanksgiving.
*I know I'm probably going about this the wrong way... |

| Well, thats what I always thought until I weighed myself a couple weeks ago and now I am curious because I want to know how much progress I am making. I was actually shopping for a scale a while back. I tried about 6 different kinds and scales. Some said I weighed 125 and others said I weighed 135 or 145. Thats a big difference to me. | |||

| Yes, cereal has always been very hard to stop eating. I used to spend the night over at friends' houses and in the morning we would have cereal and everyone would have just one bowl and I'd be going back a second and third bowl. Of course then, eating constantly didn't affect my weight negatively. But, now what I do is eat just one serving size. I eat cheerios and have to have at least one cup and I have half a cup of soy milk. In order for it to fill me up I have to drink 3 cups of water or else I will go back for more and eat a million bowls. | |||
