Well I agree to wait it out.. seeing big loss or not.. you are doing your body a favor by getting exercise.

But no, people are making excuses for you when they say muscle weighs more than fat.. and you are making progress. After 8 weeks I would be frustrated too. How long are you spending in the gym on those 3 days? What kinds of exercise are you doing? Have you thought about signing up for any classes? They tend to make you work harder than you would on your own..

Fitness True or false: Cardio doesn't burn fat. Mar 28 2009

Original Post by christalynn:

I always thought it did but my physical trainer says cardio will only burn what you ate earlier in the day.  Unless you just woke up in the morning on an empty stomach and ran on the treadmill.  He said weight training will burn fat.  Does anyone know if he's right?

I tried looking it up but I couldn't find it in my books.  :)

When he says cardio will only burn what you ate earlier that day, he's kind of right. If you do aerobic activity in another moment of the day rather than on an empty stomach in the morning, you'll be burning calories from sugars (food) and not from fat. So you're burning energy, but not fat.

It has more to do with the hormonal environment going on when you wake up with an empty stomach- more glucagon , less insulin. glucagon promotes breakdown of fats into fatty acids ... which are used as fuel for the physical activity you are doing on an empty stomach- thus burning fat.

With that said, not everyone can do cardio on an empty stomach- I'm one of them, especially when its very early, I'm jittery and sick. Cardio is good exercise for your heart whatever time of the day! If your goal is ultimately fat loss, lift those heavy weights til you wanna cry.

I feel you on the frustration! But really? 14 lbs in 6 weeks is amazing, that's over the reccomended 2lbs or 1% loss a week! I mean are you honestly thinking you wanna give up after 6 weeks of hard work? I ate like a pig this week.. and moments when I feel like giving this whole thing up, I give myself a kick in the butt. I think about weight loss like stairs, like steps leading to my goal. In your case, your 14 steps up the ladder, the goal is closer than it was 6 weeks ago. You wanna climb back those stairs just to realize you need to climb them again anyway?

Ok maybe bad analogy, but what I'm saying is... its a great accomplishment! You should be proud of all the hard work you've put into the last 6 weeks and think about how much you've learned about your body that you didn't before you started this journey.

Yikes, I didn't expect so many critical comments about this "diet" because it really is not a diet at all. Although it makes claims to give you a great tummy, it doesn't claim to spot reduce. Eating the 12 superfoods boosts your metabolism and reduces a lot of all over fat. The fat loss may be more contributed to the weight lifting, but I would say this "diet" is realistic, it doesn't have you cutting carbs, or phasing you in and out of different foods, it really just teaches you a more balanced way to eat. I love it.

Fitness Anyone Up for a Jillian Michaels' "30 Day Shred" Challenge? Mar 21 2009

I haven't posted much on this thread, but I have been committed to the Shred. And those of you still on the fence about it, its less than $10 and something you can do in your living room! I love the results, and my body continues to change.

I do the Shred 3 times a week. I am about 22/30, and Day 3 of Level 3. I also walk a few days a week. I watch my cals, and eat 6 meals a day.

With that said, I've lost 12 lbs and I feel great. I am really interested to see what my loss was in inches.. I am still searching for the paper I wrote it down on. I am 4 lbs from goal :)

Weight Loss zig-zag diet also know as calorie shifting Mar 19 2009

Most people zig zag each week anyway. I actually started zig zagging a few weeks ago.. and it took me about a week to realize, hmm this isnt much different than before. Zig zagging changes your calorie intake everyday. Well let's say you aim for 1400 cals a day anyway, but 4 days a week you work out and burn as little as 200 on those days.. well if you arent eating them back.. your zig zagging. Your week would look like 1400, 1600, 1400, 1600, 1400, 1600, 1400.

So.. I zig zag. I used to concentrate on it a lot before. But now its just real life. I eat more some days than others. I have high calorie days and low calorie days. I just spread my high calorie days out. Since I weigh in on Sundays.. my higher cal days are like Sunday, Wed, and Fri. The idea is the same... 3500 deficit calories= 1lb gone :)

My roommate did it. I thought it was a joke. The food was pretty small portions, they tell you can have a certain number sides of vegetables and fats with each meal like salad and dressing. She would snack here and there and graze because it just never seemed to fill her up. She didnt like not having flexibility to make something else for dinner if she wanted. I think its a waste of money.

She did it for a month, maybe lost 6 lbs, which did not stay off long.

Just apply smaller portions to your own foods, or get recipe ideas from this site. Track calories and more importantly calorie deficit each day... and you will see changes.

My weakness has always been Honey Bunches of Oats.. I mean overboard!! I would find other things to eat it with when I was tired of milk. Had smiliar problems with granola.. its all so high in sugar, but I liked the crunchy sweetness.

I just keep it out of the house now. And switched to Fiber One Honey clusters, a pretty great alternative. Yummy and really filling.

...And with that much fiber, one kind of assumes the consequences of his actions by going back for seconds or thirds :)

Is sweatshop a store? Sounds really cool.

At most of the stores around here, finishline, foot locker, they seem like eager teenagers just trying to sell the newest most expensive shoe. I don't get much help there.

Okay, I'm also desperately looking for my twin!! I'm trying to lose those last few kilos/lbs so that I can feel comfortable in a bathing suit or bikini...PLUS I've gained about 9lbs since my wedding less than a year ago. I always get demotivated when I see weight gain on my scale, and that is normally when I decide to stop watching what I'm eating coz "it's not working anyway"...my twin, where are you?? :)
