Do milkshakes count? I don't really like or dislike the food at McDonalds but I do enjoy a vanilla or strawberry milkshake from McDonalds on occasion.

I miss Nestle Toll House Cookie dough chocolate, it was in the market for only a few months and there were two flavors I believe, brownie and cookie dough. I loved the cookie dough and was disappointed when they stoped making it, oh well..

Health & Support So.. what causes this need to binge? Aug 20 2008

I am glad to know it's not just me. Thank you for posting this sugar_and_spice.

A little about me - I started losing weight in March 2007 and reached my current weight around December 2007. Went from 215 to 153. Oddly enough, I didn't find maintaining an easy thing to do, it took me a few months to get it right.

I have never been a binger (and I still am not). But I have observed in the last 3-4 months that I get an intense craving to eat some high cal food every few weeks and when I do eat, I usually go about 2000-3000 calories over my daily limit. It was frustating for me as you can imagine. I go to the gym thrice a week without fail (I'm not lacking in motivation) and I have made it a point to include everything in my diet (including above mentioned high cal foods). Like Sugar_and_spice, when I was loosing weight I was restricting myself a lot more than I do now. So I was completly baffled as to what was happening with me..UNTILL

I finally figured out what was going on, I saw this through trial and error. Everytime my weight dips close to or below 152 I seem to have these wierd cravings (sometimes accompanied with tiredness to the point where I don't want to go out and do things). In my case, it's almost like going below 153 is not something that is working for me. I just figured this out a couple weeks ago and I decided to make it a point to not let my weight go below 153. Even though I am not looking to lose any weight now, I do work out a fair bit and I think that might have made my weight go down gradually from 153 to 152 and further, which in turn was leading to bad food consumption patterns. Well now I know what my problem is, I will be more vigilant.

I don't know if this could be the exact reason why sugar and the others are having this issue, but it may be worth lookin into. Good luck.

Edy's loaded cookies n cream is only 110 calories /serving, 12 servings in the new reduced size container. That's 1320 calories for one BIG tub of yummy ice cream :-)

That compares very well with Edy's Grand Light Cookies n Cream which is 120 calories/serving.

Eve - a large apple (2 to a pound, or 220 gm approx) is 110 calories, that sounds quite reasonable, no? The best 100 calorie snack to munch on imo

Erica - I love Golden Delicious apples too. But there are some types I avoid - Granny Smiths, Braeburns, Jonagold to name a few.

I have heard other board members mention that the cholestrol in food does not affect our body cholestrol in a big way.

I don't know if 1/3 of a pound is too much or not, but if I were you (I love shrimp too and I am reasonably physically active) I'd go ahead and enjoy it.

Foods getting extra fiber? Jul 08 2008

I eat figs when I think I am low on fiber (I always have some at home).

Thomas english muffins light are 100 calories a peice with 8 gm fiber and 5 gm protein. Enjoy a sandwich!

Beans are a good source of fiber, as are lentils.

Foods reduced fat ice cream vs. frozen yogurt vs. sherbet Jul 08 2008

Weightwaters ice cream is not bad, especially these 2 flavors -  chocolate-fudge and mint flavors, 140 calories a cup with 6 gm of protein and 7 gm fiber, if memory serves me right. They have 2 other flavors but those are not as good as chocolate-fudge and mint.

At jewel I sometimes get Talenti pistachio ice cream/gelato, 640 calories for the whole container, very very tasty!!

I love the fudgesicles too, especially the sugar-free 40 calorie ones. They come on sale fairly often at Jewel.

I am not very fond of Skinny cow stuff.

I searched for "siam rice" and came across this post. I'm going to Siam Rice later today to have lunch with a friend. It is kinda annoying that I can't get calorie counts anywhere for Siam Rice. Even Dotti's weight loss zone has nothing for Siam Rice.

I know to avoid the currys and to have some kinda chicken and veggies. I think I'll get the Garlic Chicken with rice and only nibble at the rice. Maybe ask for extra chicken so it fills me up.

Get with the times Siam Rice. Post your calorie numbers for all those dishes!

I prefer New Balance too. I have an ASICS running pair (with gel and a NEw Balance with their Abzorb system and I find my New Balance to be a lot more comfortable for running than my Asics are.

I guess it just varies from person to person.

I just go by the following rule for an apple -

A large apple is half a pound in weight -110 calories.  Half a pound is uh...220 gm?

Going by this, your .77 kg apple (I don't believe apples can be that big but ok...) would be about 385 calories ~ 400 calories approx.

Just looking at that gives me a tummy ache (because of the sheer quantity). There's just NOWAY I could finish that in one sitting (or even in a couple of days).

I think I saw 6 layers of cheese in that big 50oz thingy, oh my!

It is an impressive sight though. I didn't say pretty, just impressive. Has anyone ever taken the challenge and won it? How much does that whole meal cost? (assuming one doesn't finish it in 30 minutes).

Edit: Never mind. I see OP mentioned the 20 bucks price.

Original Post by jackiel87:

AHHH! thats a toughie. Last time I went to Panda Express I got a 3 item combo w/ orange chicken, mandarin chicken , and chow mein. I went home after and went on their website to tally the calories.... i could not beleive it! It was over 1,000 cals. ahhh! It was kinda a mini binge for me though since that was all I ate that day besides a granola bar, so i was still under my cals for the day. I did notice on their site when compairing chow mein, white rice, and fried rice that chow mein is actually the lowest calories. I dont know about brown rice though? after reading all the nutrition facts i decided if i eat there again I will get the chow mein, broccoli w/ beef and thats it! I think garlic shrimp would be a good idea though. The frozen garlic shrimp in my freezer that is a chinese version is actually pretty low in calories. Hope that helped!!! :)

The orange chicken is really high calorie wise. Also I take the mixed vegetables instead of fried rice/white rice. The vegetables are just 90 calories.

I like apples too but I usually have just one a day, two at the most.
Weight Loss New guy here, need some advice May 08 2008

I don't know this for sure, but looks like your metabolism is down because you recently quit smoking. Like someone mentioned above, try working out a few times a week to get your metabolism up. It's good to quit smoking even if it means a short term weight gain imo. You can always work out and get your weight back under control but you can't undo the damage caused by smoking, so pat yourself on the back for quitting the smoking thing and spank yourself on the back (just kidding :-P) to get yourself to a gym or out wherever you feel comfortable being active.

Good luck!

Use a fork and knife to eat your pizza...

I can vouch for this method. I used to eat many slices of pizza in one sitting, it used to take almost 4-5 slices to satisfy. But ever since I tried using a fork and knife, I am very happy with just 2 slices. I think using a fork and knife gives my stomach enough time to realize it's full.

When I do have pizza I go for pizza with meat toppings, just so the protein in the meat will help keep me full longer.

Enjoy your evening out. Like someone already said, one evening of a lil indulgence will not change anything.

Thanks for the link. Made for some interesting reading. Suprisingly that website does not seem to have any information about the Pacific Rose variety...or maybe it just skipped my attention. Very good reading nonetheless.

As an aside, I cannot seem to find any Sonya apples at jewel. Are Sonyas season specific?

Thanks
