Hmm, thing is, where I live (Malaysia) digital scales don't come cheap so buying one is quite a big investment. So far sounds like measuring body fat won't be much different from weight.

FOR or AGAINST??

I think I'll probably decide based on the number of votes I get lol :D After all, still got a couple of days before the paycheck comes in!

Thanks for your replies and suggestions guys. Wow, I really did not expect the body fat percentage reading would fluctuate just like weight but I suppose it would be useful to have that to go along too despite the fluctuations.

I just think of all the guilt I'd feel later and convince myself it's not worth it ;)

On the other hand...I would cut me like 1/4 of a piece JUST to savor the taste and tell myself to be satisfied with that :P

LOL would you believe I just saw this thread just after spending hours at that website? I just discovered it and think there are pretty cute pictures there as a whole, despite the bad baaaad grammar. Some funny, some nonsensical. Personally, I think it's just another way for cat lovers to...love their cats more?

Well, we do have our own share of varied local foods and all, problem is 90% of them come without nutritional values and are almost all independent so guesswork is always a dangerous chore :(

Certain supermarkets have some of the stuff from the U.S, but adding import taxes and whatnot to the price, it's just sooo unaffordable :( You won't believe how expensive Kashi GoLean cereal is here compared to other brands here, among other things.

sakhmet : Good idea, I haven't thought of building muscles...would try it once I find time to go to the gym (just started a new job, haven't been in a month! :O )

sbatt1 : Yeshhh, I'm hearing a lot about butt pads and padded underwear nowadays. I have personally NEVER seen them and will keep a lookout for them. I'll try anything!

celery sticks, baby carrots, ice

I wouldn't chew on ice. I've read a couple of times on numerous occasions (I can't remember where, sorry) that it damages your teeth.

Perhaps you could chew some gum instead, in addition to the celery sticks and baby carrots as pgm012197 suggested. :)

I have a massive music collection but I listen to the songs I'm currently addicted to to keep things interesting since I get bored pretty easily during exercise. There are a few songs I ALWAYS keep in my workout playlist which get me to run the extra mile, though ;)

"Barracuda" - Heart (soooo ideal for running!)

"Crystal Ball" - Keane

"Around The World"/"Da Funk" - Daft Punk

"Bones" - Editors

"Bleed It Out" - Linkin Park

"Am I Wrong" - Love Spit Love (something about the melody is so inspirational)

"Firestarter" - The Prodigy

"In A State" - UNKLE

"It's A Hit" - We Are Scientists

Nothing pushes me like some good guitars and techno beats ;)

I want to be able to go into any store and find clothes that fit.  I don't want to hate shopping anymore.  I want to wear pretty dresses - not tents.  I don't know that I will ever wear a bikini, but I would like to look good in a bathing suit.  I want to feel sexy and be a little more adventerous in the bedroom.  I want to be able to play sports with my 4 boys and be able to keep up with them as they get older.

Eh, took the words right out of my mouth ;) Except the last sentence though, I don't have kids.

I think you should just choose one and stick with it. Looking at different weights will just make you more confused and more frustrated. Kinda like how it is over here, there are THREE scales in my house and I weigh differently on all of them, but I only take into account the one that's sitting pretty in my room. ;)

In the past every time I went on a diet I would have salads whenever I went to Chili's. I figured "hey, going to Chili's isn't going to kill me since I can have a low calorie low fat salad and have space to pinch a forkful of mashed from someone else's plate here, 4 pieces of tostada chips there or maybe a small bite of whoever's burger. I'd be eating healthy and feeling TOTALLY SATISFIED at the same time!!" XD

Mannnnnnn... who knew that their salads were JUST as high fat and high calorie as almost everything else on the menu! Gah, I can't bring myself to think of how much calories/fat I was consuming from all the pinching on top of the salad. O_o

I haven't been to ANY kind of buffet since I started dieting :(

I think I'll indulge in one in another 6 pounds XD

Original Post by hgielrehtaeh:

I would respond, but I was unable to wade through your post's terrible grammar and spelling.

Good day!

There isn't an inch of racism in that sentence.

Anyway,

I understand what you mean about being the only overweight member of the family, because I am that too. I've always found myself something cursing to the high heavens WHY ME?! Why am I the black sheep of the family to be fat like this instead of gloriously in shape like my sister and my mum who always get the fab clothes while I'm skulking around in the large polo t-shirts department.

Thing is, there is nothing we can do about it except accept that you're different and do something about it rather than lament about why God has seemingly forsaken you a hot bod. Let me tell you this; thin isn't always healthy! Thin people can eat and eat and eat whatever they want--yes--but because they're skinny they have no idea how much damage they may be doing to their bodies. People like you and I, we get fat because our bodies are telling us "whoa OK, stop now, you should check your body" but thin people don't have this privilege and if they keep on thinking that as long as they are thin they are healthy...who knows by the time they DO check their bodies, the damage would have been long set.

Personally, I feel that if I have a close friend who would subject me to name calling, I'd SERIOUSLY rethink the friendship. What kind of "close friend" does such hurtful things to each other? Did your friends tell you to lose weight out of concern for your health or because they think fat = ugly? Perhaps you should confront your friends. I think the bottom line is that YOU should know what's best for YOUR body.

Picture yourself 10, 20, 50 years from now and unless you pictured yourself a heavyset woman can't walk 20 steps without her feet aching or running out of breath easily, then yes, you should definitely find something that is healthy AND most importantly, something which you can carry on doing for the rest of your life. Don't call it a diet (because that is sooooo short term!)! Call it a LIFESTYLE CHANGE!

You will be what you choose to be.

Best of luck :)

I swear by V-Modas, more specifically Vibe Duo. Execellent sound and it has never fallen off or gotten loose when I'm on the treadmill. Seriously, at first I was skeptical about these since I've never heard of them, but once I tried them, WHOA I couldn't go back to Sony and my favorite Bose came in second! XD

Agree with everyone else about the iPod headphones. Lousy when it comes to staying in the ears. Only good thing going for them is their color :))

Absolutely.

I know how I shouldn't treat food as rewards anymore but heck, I do XD but now in moderation, of course :P Each time I hit a mini weight goal, I treat myself (BECAUSE I THINK I DESERVE IT!) to something I would normally avoid like the plague.

Next stop 130lbs and I'm buying myself a big guacamole burger AND chili cheese fries from Carl's Jr.!! Woot woot!

Correst me if I'm wrong but you are female?

Do you take birth control? or recently stopped/started/switched brands of birth control? Just a thought b/c hairloss is a side effect of birth control - i had a huge problem with this a few years ago and it was related to my pill.

Hi lstein, yes I am female. I was on birth control for two months in 2006 so I don't think that is the cause of the hairloss lol. Did your hairloss just cease along the way or did you do something to make it stop?

Trichotillomania means pulling out your own hair?  Try not to run your hands through your hair too much if that's the case.  Brush it once or twice a day but then leave it alone.

Yeah, trichotillomania is where people pull out their own hair and is a form of OCD. My parents thought it was a phase I was going through as a kid but nobody knew what it really was and I still have it today. I try really hard not to even TOUCH my head/hair but the desire becomes too great and often I do it without realizing. I hate it and I want it to stop but I'm 23 now and it still has yet to go away.

You guys are right, I should see a doctor. Or maybe I'll try Rogaine or something like that and see if the hair falling stops.

Thank you shimmercat. I actually DO see some *balding* spots on random places on my head so it's really worrying. It's just not normal to run my hand through my hair and 5 out of 10 times come out with something like 10 strands on your palm. Egh.

@techdog : Hmm, that's a 5% difference from clairelaine's...but I suppose it's still fine if it's within that range.

@mischiefdm : Wow thanks, that was really informative! Still, judging from the "low-fat -= 3 grams and under" entry, I hope that is referring to products that you buy and not your daily total because that would be insaaaaane! (OK, just as soon as I finished typing that I realized how ridiculous I sound...NOBODY could keep their daily fat intake to 3 grams!) But I will use this guide the next time I go grocery shopping. Where I live, low-fat and fat-free products are scarce and at least I'll have this to guide me ;)
