I haven't been around for quite awhile, well visible anyway (lurking). I've just been so discouraged stuck on a plateau FOREVER. But I did have to chime in on the QOD about sticking with this thread thru August… please please please people continue posting! I really enjoy seeing your progress and humor etc! I promise I'll read every word! and occasionally write a few myself! I am absolutely for a September thread also! To show good faith, I'll even answer today's QOD… Yes I work outside the home, full time, for a publishing company. We publish 5 different community newspapers in the Sacramento CA area, and I love it! Here's to a healthy end of summer! |

Hello people, I know it's been terribly long since I have checked in but boy do I have to rant…… hopefully worth many many calories! Let me start at the beginning… back in November 2007 I started this, forgive me, diet-new way of life. I had high blood pressure, was almost 100 lbs over weight, blood sugar levels were high as well as cholesterol, and the obvious being tired, no energy etc. associated with being over weight. Between November and January, yes during the holidays, I managed to lose 40 lbs! Yeh me! But, and here's the first rant… I'm stuck and have been stuck since then! I've heard about plateaus and all, but please! I'd go through periods of discouragement, fall off the wagon, but generally not for long. I have not gained any thing back, which I am grateful of! Now on to rant #2… my doctor assured me that if I were to lose just 20 lbs that my test results would be quite different! So last week I went in and guess what… after eating oatmeal EVERY morning for 6 months, very little fast food, cut back on the dairy and fatty cuts of meat, my cholesterol actually went UP!!!! I'm not talking a point, we're talking 10 points!! Are you kidding me? My doctor said well, on the bright side, your good cholesterol went up too--- oh yippi! (sarcasm) AND… my blood pressure is still unmanageable! I'm starting yet another new medication. I feel like the local pharmaceutical guinea pig! The doctor attributes the cholesterol and blood pressure to genetics - 8 out of 9 of us siblings and both my parents have high blood pressure and high cholesterol. (Milk man must have paid a visit 9 months before my brother was born!) There is a bright side, my blood sugars are perfect and I do feel tons better, and I have dropped 3 pants sizes and almost am in to the next size down, but I really would like to see some improvement on the scale! Oh, did I mention that my hair is falling out courtesy of the last blood pressure meds I was on? Ok, rant over, thanks for listening! |

Yippie! woot woot! Yey! ******Standing Ovation****** Molly that is wonderful! You are such an inspiration! Please don't forget about us, trying to be, little people!
With regards to any weight loss goal(s) you have set for yourself for the 75 Days of Summer, how will you celebrate achieving that goal??? (Or any other weight loss goal you may have set?) Well, and I hope I do not offend people, but when I reach my weight loss goal, I'm immediately going to put back on 3-4 lbs! Yep that's right, I'm getting a b00b job! I've always been on the very small side and to make matters worse I have a very large rib cage. Weird huh! It's funny though because I have found the more weight I lose the smaller my chest becomes, and I thought they couldn't get any smaller! So I figure that by the time I truly have lost all that weight I would need something done anyway! Now if I could just convince the insurance company that it's a necessity… I'll have to figure that one out! *snicker* |

Original Post by mollymouser: Like 'offinlalaland' I have a hard time with restaurants. I live and work in a small town so there are only a handful of restaurants to choose from. My co-workers frequent the local fast foods, I've had to buckle down and make myself go home, because even choosing 'well' there, is nothing compared to what I can make at home. But on the day's that I do venture out with them, I try to look up on the internet for what I can eat and stay close to my calorie count. It's the really good mom and pop restaurants that kill me! No really way of getting accurate nutrition information, so I just try to order small and then try not to eat it all. Going home truly is the best option. And considering that I only live 5 miles from work, I really have NO excuse! Bad Bonnie, Bad!!!! |

To update about my last goal: to stop flirting with the IT guy. As I posted before, he asked me out Friday night and took me to dinner. Which is why I had such a hard time food wise this weekend. He took me to a very fancy restaurant, we both are amateur 'foodies', he has much more experience then I, so he was trying to 'culturalize' me. Wow! We had foi gras, yummy (I only had a few bites), then for the entree I had the scallop plate, way fancy, and absolutely fabulous and surprisingly lower in calories then I thought. For dessert he ordered me creme brulee, but this restaurant can't serve JUST creme brulee, the plate came out with three different flavors of the stuff!! I didn't just fall off the wagon, I jumped off running and haven't been able to find it until this morning!! heehee! The dinner was amazing! The chef came out himself to talk with us, the wait-staff was at our beck and call, it was truly wonderful! Needless to say, I am choosing to edit my goal list and take off the last goal! Besides, shouldn't flirting burn calories? If so, I choose that as my form of exercise everyday!!! heehee |

Well, I embarrassed to say this weekend has been quite difficult for me food wise. But today is a new day, so off to a better start! Salad question: I love BIG salads! I tend to end up having more fresh veggies then lettuce. I like to add, tomatoes, peppers (green, red, yellow), radishes, mushrooms, cucumbers, onions, avocado (sometimes), then top it with reduced fat feta cheese and some crispy onions (sometimes). I absolutely LOVE the Litehouse Pomegranate Blueberry Vinaigrette Dressing. Only 20 calories for 2 tbls! Yummy! Sometimes I will have a hard boiled egg on the side for some added protein. |

I missed yesterday's question- sorry. As for today's question: I don't really have a specific time of day to avoid, it's more my mood, whether or not I'm bored, tired, stressed, happy... yeah, that pretty much sums me up, I just eat when-ever, where-ever and what-ever! No wonder I'm over weight! Last night I took my daughter out to dinner to celebrate her making Superintendent's Honor Roll. I had Chinese food, I did try to be good though on my portion sizes. I didn't go too far over my calorie goal, but this morning the scale showed a 2 lb increase!!! Please, please please be because of the sodium and TOM!!!! |

My rant for the day: A co-worked sent me an email labeled America's top 20 worst foods. It had all these beautiful pictures of foods from all sorts of restaurants and under them the calorie and fat content. I was shocked! Some of those foods I used to eat quite often, I'm ashamed to say. Anyway, it had me thinking... what happened to us? When and why did bigger mean better when it came to food, but not when it comes to people? How did portion sizes become so outrages? Why do we crave these foods in these portions? Answer: It's a conspiracy! I don't know if it's aliens or as Molly once put it I think, the communists! But really, how and when did this happen? I will try to post some of the email, probably not here, but maybe in my journal. Check it out it's quite interesting, I thought. When first seeing the photo, I thought, yummy, then reading the calorie and fat content, I was immediately turned off! I know...... I think I will invent some ex-ray glasses that you wear right before you eat. That way you can look at your food and the glasses will automatically tally up all the calories, fat, sodium, fiber etc. If it's too high, the glasses will start flashing red warning signs and an alarm will sound! That may slow me down!!! EDIT: I tried to post it in my journal but I can't get it out of my email for some weird reason, I have more resources at work, i.e. the IT guy |

Fiber questions... I have been quite impressed with all of you who have your fiber intake taken care of. And boy, those of you getting anything over 50 a day, whew, I don't think my system could handle that! Maybe I'll have to work up to that over the next few months. My daughter and I have been biking every evening, nothing to the extent of Molly mind you, but it sure feels like a lot to me! It's been great though, it's funny how the neighborhoods look so different when you're on a bike! Checking in on my goals: Off to drink my water before bed! Happy dreams! |

Ok I have a rant.... My daughter had an end of the season softball party this evening, we all paid $20 for pizza and a small gift for the coach. So I planned on having 1 piece of pizza had it all figured out in my head. Then when we get there (it was at an activity place), only the girls got pizza, and they only gave them one slice. I had to buy stuff from the snack bar for my son, $4 for a hot dog! and I broke down and bought nachos for me. $20 and for what? Pretty much one slice of pizza, and the gift.... turned out it was for the coach to buy a gift for each of the girls which was a little medal that cost $3. Oh, well, at least she had fun this season, they did come in second place over-all. |

Original Post by mollymouser: Funny because I have thought long and hard about this question all day, sad I know. The delima is I do like cottage cheese, but the texture does take a bit to get used to. But if I had to call it two words then chunky lumpy. Growing up we used to call the ceiling stuff cottage cheese, so maybe I could call cottage cheese chunky ceiling stuff! I believe that ceiling cottage cheese had asbestos in it- hmmm, you think it's related? heehee |

By-the-way, thanks for the recipe digigirl. I'll have to buy some
berries and try it out! Looks yummy! I did plant some strawberries this
year, but I'm thinking they won't be ready for quite awhile, even then,
they probably won't make it into the kitchen, I think they will some
how disappear between the planter and the house! Chris, that's so funny that you make the high school comment. I just had a nice sit down with my daughter explaining to her how important it was to do your best at everything you do, and how her grades will reflect that, and how important high school grades are in determining where she can go, etc! She's only in 5th grade, but you can never start too young, right? heehee And home-made ice cream! *sigh* My all time favorite! Brings back fond childhood memories, sitting on the porch steps turning the crank, dumping salt and ice, just waiting until we could have the first spoonful

Ok here's a little rant/question… Why does sugar free jello get a 'D' grade? I see that it does have some sodium in it, but not anything else! Just when I thought I found a great low calorie, refreshing summer snack! Sheesh! |

Molly, I'm so glad you were able to hear from your husband. I watched my sister go through three 'missions' such as this with her husband. I honestly don't know how you do it. What an amazing man to serve his country many times over and an amazing woman who will stand by him that whole time. I solute the two of you! I do have to say though, reading all about your little furry friends and all you do for them makes me want kitties again. I grew up with cats, love cats, but sadly had to adopt mine out do to 'technical' difficulties. My daughter keeps asking for a kitten, between the two of you, I just may cave!! If I were closer to you, I may have adopted Peanut and Walnut. Sigh, quick get me off the subject or I'll have to find a little fur ball of my own! Meleba- I hear you about your 'food mistakes'. When I make a mistake, I tend to just kind of throw in the towel for the day! I hate that! How did it ever come to that? What is it that makes some people be able to control their food and others, like myself, where at times, the food seems to control me? I swear it calls out to me! The chocolate chips sitting in the freezer, "Bonnie, come on, you know you want us! Yum yum, we're waiting!" heehee |

Original Post by mollymouser: Too funny because I went on a bike excursion with the kids this evening (rode to Togos, bought sammies, then rode to a couple different parks) but while we were in Togo's someone else rode up and I coveted that bike seat!!! It looked so cusioney soft and well, wide! Ooooo, I want one of those! Alright I must head off the the nearest bike shop and ask for the big butt bike base! heehee! I only rode for about 5 miles, but wow, I'm sore! Why do my muscles scream at me, especially the ones I didn't even know I had? And why am I craving baked goods? I love baking but that's not the wisest thing right now! M-u-s-t n-o-t b-a-k-e! |

Original Post by mollymouser: Yes, I definitely crave cool foods. Salads, fruit etc. I hate cooking in the summer, it's just too darn hot! Unfortunately other cool foods I crave are Popsicles and, shhhhh, ice cream! Evil, evil! On the flip side, we just got back from a bike ride. Whew! Molly, I don't know how you do it! We rode 1 mile to Togo's, picked up sammies for the kids (I already used most of my calories at lunch), rode back 1 mile to the park by my house, the kids ate and played. Then we decided to check out another park about 1.5 miles down the road, but the 1.5 miles back felt like 5!! I'm pooped! Question... how long until my legs get used to this? I need some water! |

Alright, I'm new to actually posting, but I feel like the kid in the NeverEnding Story movie, I've been reading along with all of you from the beginning, now it's my turn to be part of the story. I fear if I don't start participating I may need to register with my local law enforcement agency as the local stalker of posters. I have very much enjoyed all of the posts, rants etc. You all are true inspirations to me. Over the last couple of days I've been experiencing some set backs with eating and other life issues so I've decided to throw it all out there for you guys in the form of rants! 'Bear' with me. Why, oh why does CC not include in their list of activities the very strenuous exercise of playing with a toddler. Surely chasing him down the hall as he holds an open permanent marker held up against the wall as he runs would constitute a huge amount of calories lost, no? (Any suggestions of removing this 'art' would be wonderful!) I would assume that just the mere fact of being a mother, beit of children, fuzzy or not so fuzzy, would burn extra calories. For goodness sakes, sometimes I wake up in cold sweats with the fear of what the day may hold for me! Cold sweats, don't they burn calories? Rant #2 Why is it ok for the school to take my child out of school, to go to the city pool, but not so ok if I decide to take my child out of school to visit out of town grandparents (via Disneyland Rant #3 Why does my scale not know any numbers below the 170's? I'm beginning to think that I bought an academically challenged scale. I've been stuck in the 170's for the last 3 months! hmmm... come to think of it, maybe I'll toss it in the pool, maybe the chlorine will help that too! Rant #4 (Please don't sue me but...) about six months ago I went to Lane Bryant and tried to buy some clothes with my Lane Bryant (silly me) credit card. It had been canceled by the company because I bought clothes more often from their on-line stores, so they decided to close out the card. So, they issued me a new card, which I used around Christmas time. Then this last weekend I went back to the store to buy something else, pulled out that Layne Bryant card (again, silly me) and it had been canceled. And yes, I pay my bills! Anyway, they told me that they have switched banks again, and I must not have used it enough, so would I like to open another account. Excuse me? No, here's my debit card, good-bye!! Rant #5 Why oh why do bicycle seats hurt my not-so-cootie-patootie? I just bought a bike, inspired by Molly (Thank you), and ouch!! Note to self, must check out donut cusion for bike! Ok, I'll stop there, unfortunately I could go on but I don't want to scare everyone away from what is the absolute best source of support I have ran across! Have a great, healthy weekend everyone!! |

Original Post by mollymouser: I don't go around announcing it to people. But those who are around me enough know I'm making lifestyle changes. Over the last year I have lost close to 50 lbs, that are starting to show, (not enough for me) so I've been getting the questions and comments. I just tell them I'm trying to watch what I eat. To help me get through this 'phase' of my life I've decided it's NOT a diet, but a change in lifestyle. I feel better and can't wait to improve that feeling. Guess what! I got my bike yesterday! Yippie. It's just a cheapy thing, didn't want to spend a lot of money, but it's been fun. I took it out this morning, with my toddler strapped in I made it all the way around my block twice. I know, nothing to be proud of, but sheesh, my legs feel like jelly and by backside, well, ouch! My co-workers wanted me to ride over to work so they could have a look, after my neighborhood excursion I politely declined! It may take a bit to work up to that. But I am happy to be doing something. Alright, off to drink some water! |

Does fighting with my daughter's school count? I'm sure I burned a lot of calories there!! And all I was asking was for them to keep her in school for the last hour! She was running a fever of 99, so they 'have' to send her home! That's after the last two days she was running a 101 fever while at school. So when I mentioned that since she's coming home early today, then she will not be going on the 'academically beneficial' field trip to the city pool tomorrow, the secretary actually told me that I shouldn't keep her from that! Urrrggghhh! Calories burned? I'd say! |

Ok ok, I've been staring at the computer screen, feeding off of all your wonderful posts long enough! Time for some action on my part! I've been here from the beginning, lurking, but if I don't participate I think I would quietly fall back in to old habits, so here it goes… Goals: 1. Ditto to the water intake! Why is that so hard? Sheesh! I currently drink about 48oz a day, I need to bump that up to at least 60 especially as summer approaches. (Molly, you and I must be somewhat close, I also have been experiencing the odd weather issues… cool, hot, rain, warm- you know all in about two days!) 2. Exercise! Yep, I'm the lazy one! I do have good intentions ALL of the time, just don't seem to have the follow through, ever! So guess what I'm doing today after work? Yep, all because of Molly - I'm buying a bike! Yippie for me! My plan is to ride at least 3 days a week to start, keep in mind, I really do NOTHING right now, and (here's the other excuse), I will have to cart around a 35 lb toddler everywhere I go! But, I can do it! Right? 3. Log, log, log, log, log, log!!!! I had been doing pretty well back when I started this new way of life, in Novemberish, even lost almost 30 lbs. But alas, stopped logging as much and all of a sudden I'm not losing weight - amazing! So must log everything!! 4. End of summer weight loss goal… 20 lbs. Reasonable, right? 5. Post. I think posting regularly will help with the accountability factor. So unfortunately for you, I plan on keeping you all updated. Feed back would be much appreciated though to. The more people I have to answer to, the better! 6. Stop flirting with the IT guy! Ok, ok, I have to have one goal that I can fail at and still have fun with! Actually he is quite the inspiration, he has lost 90+ lbs himself, by, you guessed it, counting calories! So to answer some of the daily questions (I won't bore you will them all) In the past I haven't been much of a fish eater, only tuna and salmon, but wierdness, I have been craving more and more fish… so I'll have to see what the future holds. Like others, I don't really have a specific break down of what I'm trying to eat. I just shoot for the correct calories and an A grade. Proteins, here's a problem, the proteins I like are the not so good for you kind, so if I stay away from them, then my protein numbers are low. Any healthy suggestions are much appreciated! Water? Well, the only thing that has helped me is to keep a water bottle with me at all times, doesn't always work though. The best thing for me is ice water, I love ice in everything, and a straw! I know, I haven't grown up yet, I still love drinking from a straw! Breakfast? Lately I have been an oatmeal girl. I found that if I have it around 9ish that will hold be until lunch. Weighing in? I'm a weigh everyday person. For me I like to be aware of my ups and downs, see how sodium etc. effects me and how fast. Well, that should do it for now, keep posting with all your inspirational comments! I love them! And to quote Molly… "go drink some water!" |
