| Weight Loss | Plateauing at 124 pounds..if anything just gaining a couple of pounds every now and then.. | Sep 02 2009 13:12 (UTC) |

I totally know how you feel. I haven't gotten below 124 yet. I go up and down between 124-127 but can't get it any lower. I don't care if it a set point for my body and my body is happy at this weight. I am not. To say that you should be happy and accept where you are at is giving up. People get lower all the time. I am tired of that response. I understand where you are coming from. I think the only answer is to lower the calories and no munchies. |

PB2 with chocolate protein powder is awesome. I also use PB2 with 1 tsp. normal peanut butter on my PB&J's- it helps with texture and makes it really good. I like PB2 just normal but when I have extra calories to spare I do that. I also like it with celery. I just love PB2- it is totally worth the money.... but the other thing I recently found was DaVinci's sugar free peanut butter syrup... (it is usually used in coffee shops but I use it in my shakes. AWESOME!!! no calories. |

| Fitness | whats a "good" time for HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY runners? | Jul 03 2009 18:51 (UTC) |

As a coach - A girl in cross country needs to be able to run a 8 min. mile to be anywhere close to making Varsity- but remember most cross country courses are golf courses- meaning you will have hills be running on soft grass. A 7 minute mile would be good. Although all this depends on the size of your team. We have had some small teams where almost all the girls made varsity due to the lack of numbers. Also remember that usually in high school cross country all girls run together - there is no varsity race and jv race- at least not in my state. I would be working on building endurance for one or two days a week and then doing hill work one day and speed work the other days. I also don't agree that junior varsity cross country won't look good on a transcript. That is stupid. A college is looking for people who are active in groups or sports- whether varsity or not you were involved and part of the group. Lastly - I would get ahold of the xc coach as they are probably doing a summer workout program that could get you started. Hope that helps. |

| Weight Loss | totally lost as to what to do next... help. | Apr 29 2009 15:02 (UTC) |

That's interesting that you lost nothing on the low carb diet... I had the same experience. I cut out all carbs and did a low calorie diet with two days of moderate calories and lost nothing.. granted water weight- but nothing permanent.... I don't restrict carbs anymore just keep them in moderation. I am thinking I need to take a break but have a race this weekend and at the end of May so might try to take a few days off next week.... thanks for the input... I will try to be more positive. my husband says the same thing... sometimes I am a Debbie Downer... :( |

You know I rented a bodybugg for a few weeks and I did find that the bodybugg said I burned about 100-200 more calories than I have been estimating but I always went for the lower number because I wanted to be safe. I might have to increase a little but I haven't seen that many people say I increased my calories and lost unless they were eating very little. |

I do struggle getting enough sleep but I don't do too bad. As far as eating enough.... If I eat more I won't have a 500 calorie deficit. But if what I am doing isn't working it isn't going to suddenly start working so I guess I could increase. I may be too critical of myself but I know what I looked like 10 pounds ago and I liked it... I don't like what I see now. It makes me sick. Thanks for your positive comments though! |

Thanks- I appreciate your comments. It is just that when I was 132 I could look at myself and be happy. I look at myself now and see that extra cellulite and chub... I know 120 is too low but 130 is a happy medium.... How much deficit is too much? I think the only option is to eat way less calories and see if that works... I just don't want to screw my body up... |

I have measured in the past but haven't in a while. Clothes still fit the same so I don't want to be more depressed by yet another number that won't change. Thanks for the suggestion though. |

| Weight Loss | Anybody read Rethinking Thin? | Mar 21 2009 15:09 (UTC) |

Well let me restate.... I don't know if the book says that weight loss is useless but rather that being "healthy" at whatever weight is more the goal... They also looked at various school studies where one school provided exercise time, healthy snacks and meals, education, parent partnerships and everything to educate the students and families. In the end the school with all the extras did end up being more educated but their obesity rate was the same as the control school. What does that mean? For me it just reitterated how difficult losing weight can be. It is an interesting read if you enjoy the science of weight loss. |

Thanks again. My doctor said my levels weren't really low but they were low so I am not extreme by any means but I am hoping to start feeling better. Clairelaine said she felt better after one month. Is that about normal for the amount of time to wait before seeing conditions improve? |

Thanks for replying. Do the pills have any negative side effects? If I don't go on medication are there any long term effects. I guess I want to feel better but I don't like taking medicine so I am trying to weigh my options. |

With vanilla I mix a crystal light packet in with water and ice... You get a smoothie texture with a fruity kick depending on what packet you put in. I like the raspberry or lemonade.... Which chocolate- I sometimes mix a T. of PB@2 - the powdered peanut butter- and it tastes like a peanut butter cup. |

| Motivation | The LAST 10 lbs?!?! | Aug 09 2008 20:30 (UTC) |
|
I have been struggling with the last 8 for about one year now. The next thing I am going to try is to keep my deficit smaller. I am running about a 500-800 deficit most days because I exercise a lot. No matter what my weekly deficit is, the weight stays on so I am going to try to up them for a while and then drop them drastically down again after a few weeks. I don't know what else to try. I have considered getting my thyroid tested but I really doubt that is it. I don't have many of the other symptoms. I think the last 10 is just impossible. I am just so jealous of people that say " I hit my goal weight" I would love to finally achieve that instead of being so close but oh so far. Anyway you aren't alone. |

| Weight Loss | Birth Control Pills | Jul 30 2008 12:54 (UTC) |

I just heard a person talking about this. They said that birth control pills can really hinder weight loss. I guess I was wondering for those of you that lost after going off the pill for a while - what happened when you went back on? Did the weight come back or were you able to hold it off? I am in the same boat as most of the others here. I gained weight when I went on years ago and I have been able to lose about 12 of the pounds but I am stuck and no matter what kind of deficit I hold and how much exercise I do I cannot lose a single pound more. I was actually thinking of going off the pill for a few months just to see what would happen but if the weight comes right back after starting the pill again I better just keep trying the regular way. |

| Fitness | Cycling - Total Calorie burn vs. Calorie intake qns | Jul 16 2008 12:43 (UTC) |

I ride a lot too. I do try to up my calories significantly on days I ride and burn tons of calories. I try to keep the deficit under 1000 for sure and usually closer to 600. There are some days you just can't do it like you said you would be eating 4700 calories. I have found that when I am training this hard that if I have a huge deficit too many days in a row my performance suffers and I am riding slowly and usually end up bonking far from home. I have started taking more snacks on the ride and eating more nuts and peanut butter to keep my deficit lower. I would also wear a heart rate monitor when doing your rides so you can get an accurate number of calories burned. The estimates given here seem to be way off for me. Good luck with the riding. |

| Fitness | Heart rate monitor...High calorie burn? need opinions please...so confused!! | Jul 09 2008 19:05 (UTC) |

When you work out in the higher end of your target heart rate you will burn more calories. You want to work out between 65-85 % of your max heart rate. If you are on the higher end as you work out- your burn could definitely be in the 800's. |

| Weight Loss | Can a dietician help? | Jul 08 2008 23:41 (UTC) |

I went to a dietician at the local hospital and found the visit to be worthless. She printed off some websites for me and showed me portion sizes. It was like high school health class. Nothing new and she didn't really know how to factor in my exercise needs. I guess it just depends on who you see. I would ask around before you go. |

I like to use PB2 and mix it with one Tablespoon of the real peanut butter. I just take the powder of PB2 and put the water in then add one T of the real stuff and it tastes great. That way I get more peanut butter but it doesn't add up in calories so quickly since 2 T of PB2 is about 55 calories. |

As far as I know you definitely need the chest strap. The Polar F series watches read the heart rate from the chest strap. There are watches that read the pulse from the wrist but I have heard that they aren't as accurate. I am 99% sure that the F6 needs the chest strap so I wouldn't buy it without it. Check the polar website to be sure. |

I bought the F11 but I think it is overkill. I only use the heart rate monitor part and calorie counter - not all the other options so if I were to do it again I would buy a simpler model and save some money. |

I would make sure and wear a heart rate monitor when you bike. I have found the calorie burned estimates here to be way off especially if you have a road bike that is fairly light. I think they are estimating speed and calories based on a heavier bike that you would have to work harder with. For me it can be up to 300-500 calories over what my HR says. Just be careful when you are figuring your daily intake after riding. |

Wow - thanks for all the info. I guess it is a hit and miss game. Like I said before the guy I decided to go to practices ART -Active Release Technique which is more just trying to get rid of scar tissue in the hurt muscles. THe first appt. went well and he said it should only take a few appts. We'll see. |

I went to the chiro and he thought we could have this under control in a few visits (2-4). I thought that was great. He used the Active Release Technique that I had heard about and that Kaffwynn talked about. He really got in and massaged- stretched the area. It felt better after he was done but he gave me more stretches to do and I will visit him again on Wednesday. He explained the ART process and that it basically breaks up the scar tissue that has formed from overuse injuries and lets things heal. We'll see!! |
