| Weight Loss | how do anorexics get so skinny? | Sep 02 2008 00:31 (UTC) |
7 |
Well, anorexics do technically go into starvation mode, but since they eat so little, there's not much to store anyway and that's why they dont store fat and continue to get thinner and thinner since they're eating less than the calories they would need from laying immobile in bed all day (BMR) When you lose weight by going into starvation mode and then try to eat normally again, THAT's when you store fat even more than you did before. |

| Health & Support | Overboard Trans Fats Consumption -- AHHHHH!!! | Sep 02 2008 00:21 (UTC) |
1 |
ok, thanks yes, i didn't say anything about a binge. i was just wondering if eating a ton of trans fat in a couple of days (like just for example, if you had a really bad week where you ate like 10 grams per day) will affect your health, even though normally you eat a minimal amount of it..maybe 1 gram per day sometimes, usually less.

| Weight Loss | dieting while fasting.....need help | Sep 01 2008 18:40 (UTC) |

as far as i know (one of my best friends is a muslim and also has to fast every year at this time) there are a few exceptions. i don't think it would hurt to change your rule for just this period of time to 8:00 PM. it is only an hour's difference. |

| Health & Support | Can you still lose weight in starvation mode? | Sep 01 2008 18:18 (UTC) |

its possible to continue losing in starvation mode initially, if you lower your calories even more. |

| Weight Loss | "TOO SKINNY!" ....what. | Aug 11 2008 00:50 (UTC) |
5 |
AHHH! that's what i'm like! well, i did get too skinny eventually and gained all my weight back last winter, but ive started losing weight again and my mom is watching me as usual and so ive been losing weight SOOO slowly this time having to eat with the rest of the family when we have an unhealthy meal and being watched =_= my mom doesn't realize that not everyone has a messed up body like hers that is unable to store fat. And just because she needs to gain weight doesn't mean I can't spare 5-10 pounds lost to look better. |

| Weight Loss | I need help! My metabolism ruin!! | Aug 11 2008 00:29 (UTC) |
|
My sister is 5'0 and 107 pounds but she looks great and I wouldn't say she's on the high end of her weight... As counter intuitive as it seems, the only way to flatten your belly is to bring your metabolism up by slowly increasing your calories until its in a normal range for a teenager...like 1800-2000 and increasing your exercise as well. Except you're already exercising a lot, so I guess you just need to bring your calories up. You WILL probably gain weight at first, as a warning, but have no fear. After your metabolism goes back up, the weight will come off faster than it ever could've if you keep up what you're doing now :) Exercise plays a HUGEEE part in weight loss and is more efficient than cutting tons of calories. Exercise plus cutting SOME calories is the most efficient in weight loss. |

| Motivation | enough is enough. NO MORE BINGEING. | Aug 11 2008 00:21 (UTC) |

congrats kelsey!
But the urge to do it comes back every so often, and the mindless eating never really totally fades away. Just this afternoon, i ate an unhealthy lunch of dim sum, then 2 slices of bread, 2 plums, and 1 ice cream bar. But...I guess I just wanted to say even ex-bingers need support sometimes because the physical and psychological turmoil leaves an impression, and ghost urges come back once in a while. Wow...well, there's my essay :P |

| Fitness | What should I do for exercise during the school year? | Aug 10 2008 20:17 (UTC) |
1 |
Join the swim team or tennis! IF your school is small and doesn't have them, most schools let you join another school's team for that sport. Or take P.E class. That's what I do. During the summer I have time to exercise myself, and during the school year, i don't as much, and I'm also a lot less motivated since my school is really tough and we get buttloads of work so I have a hard time pushing myself to physically work too once school is over. So I take competitive P.E every year, even though I got all my P.E credits a longgg time ago, and second semester, I do soccer, because when you join a school sport, it doesn't matter if you're motivated or not (well, it does...but thats not the point). You have to go to practice and push yourself and organize your time around it no matter what. |

| Weight Loss | Pls help with my plan! 104lbs->99lbs! | Aug 06 2008 08:06 (UTC) |
1 |
only a person 100 lbs overweight would safely lose 5-6 pounds in 2 weeks. At the most, id say you could lose 2 pounds in 2 weeks. Unless you ate nothing at all. Which by the end of 2 weeks, you'd be in a hospital instead of at your photoshoot. So please, treat your body well :) Eating under 1200 calories for too long will only slow your metabolism and make weight loss even harder. |

| Weight Loss | Has anyone ever had friends or co-workers deliberately try to sabotage your diet? | Aug 06 2008 07:48 (UTC) |
14 |
i dont think they necessarily want to sabotage you. my sister did stuff like this, and it definitely wasnt to sabotage me... everyone got annoyed at my apparent "obsession" with health food, and started mocking me and purposely offering me a cookie and then saying sarcastically "oh WAIT, you dont eat normal food anymore." or eating tasty food in front of me and rolling their eyes when i didnt participate. the rest of my family doesnt have weight problems really, so to them, my attitude towards food was annoying. in some cases, it may be jealousy and sabotage. in other cases, it might just be ignorant annoyance from people who dont understand. or dont care about their health as much as we do :)
just remember....YOU decide what you put into your body. Don't let other people change that...they'll get used to it with time. :) |

| Fitness | Everyone runs... I've always felt like it was never for me.. how do I start this time?? | Jul 28 2008 01:59 (UTC) |

the best exercise is exercise you enjoy trust me, if you make yourself do exercise that you dont like just because if seems more efficient, you won't be able to stick to it who said biking can't burn as many calories as running? bike like a madman! ride on hills! the difference is what muscles you use |

good luck! id like to say i know how you feel, but everyone feels things differently, so all i can say is ive been in the EXACT same position as you before. not too long ago too. don't worry, the first week i still ate over 2000 calories everyday. sometimes i still eat around 2000 calories some days, but i dont worry about it. and the next day i try to do better whilst still satisfying my need |

| Weight Loss | Who really has time to exercise? | Jul 25 2008 23:40 (UTC) |
|
exercise does not have to be a defined amount of time set aside where you're doing set moves, routines, or whatever. if you could take a short 5 minute walk every hour or so then in 6 hours of work you would have 30 minutes of walking! which is a lot more exercise than none. |

i think its okay to have an off day once in a while...it keeps us from going crazy as long as you try to stick to maintenance calories so even if you dont lose weight, you dont gain any, its should be fun! :) |

food is definitely the hardest addiction, though i have never been addicted to anything else, so i guess i can't say xD but just imagine...if people HAD to drink some beer everyday in order to survive, how hard would it be for an alcoholic to break their addiction? stupid food :P |
