Ok, thanks for the advice everyone.  Update is, its now been a month, I got sick so I have not been able to exercise for a month.  My knees still hurt. Not feeling swollen anymore, just hurts to get up and down.  That's a month of no pressure on my knees and I still have pain (under my knee cap).  Any suggestions anyone to what may be wrong??  Anyone else had this?

Ok u guys, thanks for the encouragement, I felt like since Im unable to work out I will lose everything I have done.  I will go back to strict dieting to compensate for no exercise and your telling me it shouldnt affect me to badly?  I'll do it.  After I posted this, I woke up the next morning with this cold that is going around and had to cancel with my trainer doing upper body.  I guess I am just supposed to take some time off for a few days.  Sigh.

I had the same problem in April of this year!  I do kickboxing as well (isn’t this funny?) and after one of my classes I couldn’t help limping and my right knee just hurt!  Well, stupid me I went back 2 days later and made my knee worse!  I was out for a month because of that goofy mistake because my knee was so inflamed.

Here is my advice based on my experience.  Elevate your let and try to walk on that leg as little as possible!  Take an anti-inflammatory.  It sounds like your knee is at a minimum moderately/severely inflamed.  If your knee does not feel at all better in a few days, please see a doctor.  They can prescribe a stronger anti-inflammatory and test your knee to see what part of it hurts.

You have to take at LEAST a week off.  I know that is NOT what you want to hear, but I am speaking from experience here!  Trust me.

Focus on maintaining your weight with food.  Just focus on not gaining for a week or so.  Then, once your knee is fully better, continue with your weight loss!!

If you have any more questions, you can send me a message if you like.  Good luck!

How long did it finally take to heal your knee?  I have never had an injury, just one day I felt like I couldnt bend my knees, they hurt because they felt swollen.  Then I went back and when I was kick boxing they hurt more.  So I took a day off and went back because they felt a little better then they hurt all over again.  Sigh.  So now its been 3 days.  Im addicted to kick boxing, I finally found something I love.  When you went back to kick boxing after your knees healed, did they act up again?  Thanks for the info!

I think some people may be a little hypercritical.  I get people who offer me alternatives all the time and I dont take it the way you took it.  To me it sounded like she was being helpful and so many people are on 'diets' its just a natural assumption.  Im sure it had nothing to do with you personally.  I myself do not tell people Im on a diet anymore because I dont want to hear them lecture me when they dont understand my goal.  I am not fishing for compliments or someones opinion when I mention I am on a diet, i usually am just simply stating it because I have to special order something or I am trying to get it cooked dry, or whatever.  I was always thin (size 0) and I personally never looked at someone overweight that ate and thought anything about it.  Unless, for example I was a cheesecake factory and watched this woman that was obese sitting next to me smoke, then she got a cheeseburger with frys and after that a brownie cheesecake.  I could not help thinking that it was inappropriate and how sad that that food is more worthy than her health.  That was my thought and that is all, no other thoughts.  And I have friends that would think the same way.  We look at it at more a health standpoint when we see something that obvious, but not in a negative manner.  I think a lot of times you're self concience of yourself and just imagine people are thinking that.  No matter what there are mean people in the world, you cannot avoid that, but the majority I dont believe are thinking the way you think they are.

Depends on your goal.  My trainer would say your eating too much, and not enough times a day.  But he is Mr America and is giving me the bodybuilding diet.  You are supposed to eat every two hours, do not go past 3 hours.

His schedule he gave me:

Meal #1  4 egg whites (large) + 1 egg yolk and 1/2 c veggies (i.e. green peppers, spin, brocc) or 1/2 cup fruit (i.e. some kind of melon) or 1/2 cup of cottage cheese.

Meal #2  4 oz Grilled Chicken breast and 1/4 brown rice or 4oz yam.

Meal #3  Protein Whey Shake (20-25 g) 2 scoops (12 oz water) or 1/2 cup cottage cheese and Flaxseed oil.

Meal #4  4 oz grilled chicken breast and 1/2 cup veggies (i.e. green veggies, spinich, broc)

Meal #5  4 oz Fish (i.e. cod, white fish) and Salad and 1/4 cup brown rice or 4 oz yam.

Meal #6  4 egg whites + yolk and 1 cup Veggies or 1/2 cup cottage cheese.

Condiments: Lite salt, Pepper, Mustard, Apple Cider or Balsamic Vinegar, Mrs Dash, Stevia, Molly McButter.

Snacks:  Sugar Free Jello, Sugar Free Jello Pops.

Beverages: Crystal Light, Decaf Tea, Coffee (limited)

Supplements: Vitamin C, Vitamin B, Multi Vitamin and Glutamide.

On weekends you can switch up meal #1 carb for 1/4 cup oatmeal (1/4 cup dry) and meal #4 you can have 1/2 brown rice or 1 cup of veggies and meal #5 you switch up to 1/4 white rice + 1/2 cup veggies, Meal #6 switch up to no veggies, only salad.

I love grapes. They dont make you gain weight?

i guess if you eat a ton of them....but usually dieters aren't concerned about grapes lol

Seriously, if I could eat grapes and not gain weight, I would eat a  bundle of them everyday.  Just chicken, and grapes.   Lol........

I do feel changes, Im not feeling bloated anymore and my clothes are not horribly tight as they were and I definitely am not in any threat of gaining anymore.  I measured myself when I started, but dont want to do it yet as I may be more disappointed if there is proof of no change.  I was going to wait 12 weeks.  I am eating vegatables and brown rice, minimal amts though.  I may sometimes hit 1400 calories but no more than that for the last 5 weeks.  I am 40, not a teenager, I didnt think I would ever have to diet when I was a teenager and I absolutely know I am not prego.  Sooooooo  I will continue onto 12 weeks and if no changes, I will simply shoot myself.  (joke).  I will then stop eating completely and force my body to lose weight.  I start lifting next week so by 12 weeks I'll have done hi intensity cardio for 10 weeks, dieted for 12 weeks and lifted for 7 weeks.  There has to be a change!  I used to eat nothing but coldstone ice cream and chocolate souffles and pinkberry twice a day as well as raviolis, alfredo pastas and cheeseburgers with fries everyday. How could I not get changes with this.  Just cutting out desserts it seems would have done something for me.  Im so frustrated!

I do understand! I am about a size 9 right now but i was always always a size 5-6...Alll of my friends say im crazy and that i am so "THIN" I don't think so at all!

My goal is to be a size 5 again....and you know what.... I don't care if that seems "small" to some people it honestly is a good size for me... I have a really petit upper body and being any larger looks unporportioned.

SOOOO thank you for you post, because I agree about being able to talk about it... however i love this site because i have gotten nothing but support from people which is fantastic... for the first time i am talking openly about how i feel :)

So if you need someone that understands you... I do! And i wish you luck with your own goals!

Cheers!!!!!

Since the first night I signed up here and read some rude posts to girls who dont have a lot to lose, I have since looked around this site and talked to a few people and have found there is a lot of nice people that do support and understand my situation which is refreshing.  There are more nice people on here than not, I just happened onto a couple of posts when first coming on this site and was upset at what I was reading.  I guess you cannot stop self centered people from being the way they are in this world, so you just find the good out there and stick with that.  It seems there is a lot of good people along with the bad here.  Thanks for your post, it always helps when someone says im not crazy and understands.  I am working hard to get to this goal and not getting anywhere it seems and it is frustrating and sometimes I want to give up and its nice to know I finally have people that I can talk to about it that wont just put my efforts down.  It actually pisses me off now when people tell me to leave myself alone, its insulting and I am tired of hearing it, if you know what I mean.

Also, bear in mind that you can sneak in treats, if it helps you keep your sanity (as it does mine).  Today I've planned 1250 cals for myself (I haven't been exercising :( ), and included in those 1250 are 20 pieces of candy corn and a macadamia nut cookie from subway.

Mmmm......Macadamia nut cookie.....yum.  Nope cant do it.  But that sounds so good!  Im salivating.Cry

Its 350 to start with, but really only 35.00 a week after the first month for maintainance.  The initial start up costs a lot cause your buying the whole kit, but it last a couple months and the next month you only need the protein powder.  It works and has all the nutrients you need to level out your blood sugar.  I am never tired or feeling bad for the first time.  I was just wondering if anyone else was on it so I could talk to them about how they are feeling as well.  I have been on it one month now.  I love it.  (and on this diet you dont eat breakfast or dinner so it is actually cheaper than food)

Ok, thanks for the posts and encouragement.  I started dieting a month ago and am 140 trying to get down between 115 and 120, doesnt much matter as long as I am firm and my size goal.  I was pms'ing when I wrote this and...had stopped takng Hoodia that I had been on since the start.  I didnt realize it, but the hoodia had really been working.  I am feeling good again, but I do have a sweet tooth and it is still torture not eating my chocolate soufle.  Arg....  I am staying around 1300 calories a day and do hi intensity turbo kick boxing  for and hour 5 days a week, I have just recently started exercising for the first time as well.  Its all new to me and hard as hell!  Everyday seems to be a struggle to get through, then the next day I start over.  I have yet to see any results, but all my friends keep telling me to just keep it up and my body will eventually start letting go of the fat and reshaping itself, that I need to give it 12 weeks at least for results.  Im using that as my only motivation to keep suffering.  I eat a protein shake in the morning for breakfast and one at night for dinner and only eat real food at lunch (im on isagenix program) that is balanced between 400-600 calories.  I do the trick with coffee w/sugar free vanilla a tad bit of cream as my comfort food, and almonds when I need a snack.  Thats about it.  Thanks for the encouragement.

Got it.  U had me scared for a while there.  Thanks for clarifying!Tongue out

This is a tough one. My gut reaction is this: doesn't matter whether we are losing 100 lbs, or 20 lbs - we ALL have to practice the same diet and exercise habits everyday, to get to our goals. If our goal is X, well, we need to practice eating and exercising like a person who weighs X - whether we have 100 lbs to get to X, or 20 lbs.

I would hate to see C-C segregate into two camps. I think both camps have a lot to learn from each other. Those with 100 lbs to lose can see that reaching their goal may not necessarily bring happiness and body satisfaction they may be imagining. Whereas, those with 20 lbs to lose may learn to be more self-accepting about their bodies. Despite occasional flare-ups and friction, seems to me it's a win on both sides, no?

I agree with everything you just said.  Amen.

I've never heard of anyone, short of having a medical condition, who couldn't stomach ingesting 1200 calories, yet was overweight. How is this possible? How did this person gain the extra weight in the first place?

It is actually VERY easy to gain a ton of weight without eating "a ton".  Example:

Snack:

another large coffee with cream and sugar = 240

A large coffee is 240???

Nice attempt at deflection from your own comments that basically insult a great majority of this board. So you win ok, you're right and i'm wrong.

Who is doing the judging and name calling here?  It is not me.  I dont need you to 'teach' me what I already know.  There is a majority of obese people (not all) that allowed it to happen (including half my family members and best friend).  You yourself just lost 95 pounds you stated.  I simply choose not to gain the 95 pounds in order to not have to lose it.  You insulted me first in mocking me and my concerns.  Its not a matter of winning or losing here.  But if you think you are an angel here and not insulting, think again.  Just because you have a worse issue than I do, does not give you the right to mock, belittle, or degrade, or minimize my concerns, (or twist my words to your own meaning) just as I have not done to you.

You can be validated and listened to now, go back about 20 posts where I talked about tact and knowing your audience. I was trying to help.

The difference between me and someone 100 pounds overweight is I am stopping it before it gets out of control.  This thread just validates what I already knew.

And you are one of those people who look down on those that aren't as good as you and couldn't stop before it got out of control because it's just that easy. You're right, this thread has validated what I already knew about how "some people" think. Nice... at it least it wasn't rude. *roll*

Wow somebody has a chip on their shoulder.  Now your telling me who I am when you dont even know me?  'Im one of those kind of people'?  I am in the process of stopping it.  And it is very hard work, again, go ahead a belittle me some more.  I recognized a problem happening and have addressed it at a very early stage.  Again, sorry that you have to struggle more than I do or feel your problem is more important, I didnt do it to you though.  So dont take it out on me.

I guess I'm another one of "those" people...

So what you are saying is that overweight people are overweight because they eat too much... sounds like what I have been hearing from the "skinny" people all my life.

I am 38 years old, 5'3" and weight 151 lbs... about 30lbs overweight.  I have been overweight my entire life and I very rarely eat more than 1500 calories... it's more often around 1000.  I also sometimes forget to eat until I feel my stomach growling.

It's just that I have been eating below 800 calories a day for so long that when I do go over I gain.  Like one piece of pizza will make me gain 3lbs.

So those of you who have been overeating all your life and just woke up one day and looked in the mirror and said "OMG! I 'm fat!" have it a lot easier than those of us who have been restricting calories our entire lives and yo-yoing because one little slip costs us up to 5lbs!  You can just eat a little less than you had been... and complain about it... I'm so hungry (whine).  Have you heard your stomach growl?

I am one of those people that woke up one day and realized I had to buy all new clothes (bigger! Arg!) And yes, it is hard because I am spoiled and never had to do it.  But........I can also empathize more with you and have a better understanding and listening ear.  I feel for you...sincerely.

BTW, I think this is a bit rude.  Just my personal opinion.  Someone is trying to help you understand a psychological issue that you cared enough to post about and since you don't like their answer you snip back at them.

Please read my post below, I was not being rude, it explains my position.  I would never tell someone I am fat, I am not.  Nor would I talk about being fat to someone overweight.  That is hurtful.  But, if this is a weight loss site, i just think that everyone should care whether it is one pound or 100 pounds.  We all bleed the same.  I always listened to my friend who was obese and never said a word other than I wish she would take care of it because of health reasons.  But I was also hurt when I would confide in my body issues and I would be shut down.  I am not here to be rude (im not a rude person) or offend anyone.  I sincerely just wondered why people are treated rudely when they dont have 'as much' to lose as another, instead of understanding and empathy.

Ok here is why I gave the response I did.  It is insulting to me, when you tell me I am losing a measly 20 pounds for self esteem issues and use the 'medical' issue to invalidate my importance  and concern of my situation of weight loss.  If it will help, I was told by my dr last week that I have disks disinigrating in my neck (5, 6, and 7, and my thumb cannot move from the pain in my tendon if we want to bring in medical issues) and that if I lose weight it will relieve pressure from my neck.  But that has nothing to do with my struggle of losing weight.  I thought this was a supportive weight loss forum and simply noticed that when a thin person got on here to talk, they were shut down.  I am hungry because my calorie intake is only 1200, I get headaches and am tired everyday, I get heartburn, and emotional issues just like any of you who are losing weight.  The difference between me and someone 100 pounds overweight is I am stopping it before it gets out of control.  This thread just validates what I already knew.

Hi, I think that this is a very interesting thread, the debate has been well thought out and contains a lot of sincerity.

Speaking from the perspective of someone who is obese, but whose background was "normal" weight-wise, someone whose metabolism changed at 30 during a pregnancy - It is shocking to find myself in an obese body - to know that my weight is a liability to my body, my lifespan and is (as reported today on the news) that it is as much a risk for cancer as smoking is.

I think that being in the community forums is educating about the people who have a lot to lose, like me; the people who have a challenge to lose 20 pounds and those people who it is a challenge to eat enough calories so that their bodies don't consume their own muscle tissue.

Jopp, one of the frustrating things that we both face is aging; being in our 40's. Our bodies are fighting us every step of the way, nothing works the way they have in the past.    And this is where CC is so beautiful, there is common ground. I know that there are some people here who lack tact, who are even abusive.  But, thats the way it is in the world.  We can resolve to be there for each other pound for pound!!

However,  must defend my "camp". (none of us want to be in it, by the way) That, we do not wish to be described at jealous or uncaring about others' needs, wants or desires.  Any form of bad mouthing is not helpful in any way.  It is regrettable that anyone uses the forums as abusive tools.  We are all here to better our bodies, and to support each other to that end.Smile

One thing you could do is start a thread for people who are in your boat. For example, I am in the 200+ thread, we all have about 75 lbs or more to lose.  There is a core group of us who help each other with our experiences, reports on what we did today and advice on if something is especially good.  Give it a cool name and start the thread!!!!   Good luck in your quest.  There are many of us obese people who are rooting for you!!!Wink

Hello Kate, I have to say you have one of the most positive responses I have read yet, and thank you for the positive feedback and the sincerity of concern and acknowledgement of my situation.  I have heard a lot of feedback, (in the other forum as well) and unfortunately it just clarifies my initial post.  I will try your idea, never having been on here before, I did not know there were different forum uses and venues. Good luck to you as well, and I am rooting for you as well.

I need to lose 20 pounds just like that person needs to lose 100 pounds, as far as I'm concerned, last time I heard, that is called 'weight loss'.

Right, but the person needing to lose 20 pounds is for self esteem just as you said, the person who is 100 lbs over weight is obese and at risk for many health risks that the other person isn't. I'm suprised some people aren't realizing the difference.

I am a pretty good example, In the last 5 months i've lost 95lbs. I no longer have sleep apnea, I don't snore, my blood pressure is now normal, My cholesterol is normal, I am in no danger of diabeties and god knows how many other health problems that I was at risk for I am no longer at an increased risk for. Now that I am trying to lose that last 5lbs to get to 100 and my goal weight. If I posted "OMG I am so fat I gained 2 lbs it doesn't have the same importance or significance. Is it still important to me? Sure.... but I have to expect how it's going to be recieved on a site like this.

Maybe i'm guilty of placing weight loss for medical reasons over weight loss for self esteem. I dunno...

My bad.  I must have posted in the wrong area?  Is this the 'medical area and health issues associated with weight loss' site, or the just the 'weight loss' site?  I guess I will come back after I have 100 pounds more and have 'medical issues'.  Then maybe I will be validated and listened to.
