I also love bagels.  I eat whole wheat bagels all the time.  Not the weird ones, just a whole wheat bagel from the bagel shop, they taste great and are very satiating!  Stay away from white flour bagels

I've tried every low carb diet out there.  None worked for me.  I'm a strong proponent of healthy carbs!

Counting calories was just a small part of my puzzle in achieving  my weight goal.  I needed to  create healthy eating habits that I could maintain.  I found a plan that worked w/o starving myself!

I suggest running.  In my opinion, it is the best form of cardiovascular exercise for fat loss.  I never had abs until I got my nutrition right and started running.

I really like crackers too but can't stop at just a few.  Now when I crave crackers I a bag of "smart pop" microwave popcorn.  A whole bag is only 240 calories!

When I was trying to reach my goal weight I kept my calories consistent.  Now that I've reached my goal and have developed healthy eating habits I don't need to count calories any more.  Thank God!  I would consider exercising one more day a week!

I've always exercised but was never lean.  Unless you are a genetic freak you will not get lean by exercise alone.  You must eat properly, not an easy task.  I was introduced to a nutrition/exercise plan that I followed for three months. It taught me eating and exercise habits take I will maintain for life.   Check my profile for success story and link!

Before I reached my goal I always counted calories. Eventually  I didn't have to because I developed sensible eating habits and knew what foods not to eat.  Now that I've reached my goal I don't need to count calories.  I'm much more relaxed w/ my diet,  I just eat sensibly and exercise regularly.

Triathlon training and weight loss don't necessarily go hand in hand .  I am also a triathlete and  struggled  to lose those last lbs.  I assumed w/ all the training that the weight would come off, it didn't.  I finally found a plan that worked for me, integrated healthy carbs into my diet and now I finally have the body I've always wanted!

Don't put too much emphasis on those results.  Hydrostatic body fat testing is the only test w/ consistent accuracy.  Skin fold caliper and electronic  tests are highly  inaccurate.

Unless you are a genetic freak it is virtually impossible to become "Lean" on a high fat diet.  My goal was to finally have a six pack (probably not your goal) and until I cut the fat significantly, never had one.  Regardless of your specific goal, long term weight loss and maintenance will not happen on a high fat diet!

Start training Dec 1 for LA on March 3.  My goal is to run 3:15 to qualify for Boston!  There  is no way I would have been able to even finish a marathon  at my previous 205lbs.

Everyone is different but generally speaking 1000 - 1200 calories is not enough.  You're doing a lot of exercise which is great, however your body is most likely in starvation mode.

Marathon training and weight loss don't necessarily go hand in hand!  Anyone who has ever run a marathon can attest to the overweight participants.  People training for a marathon have a tendency to overeat and over do it w/ the gels, sports drinks, bars, etc.  You need to combine this w/ a proper nutrition plan that not only has the right amount of calories but also the right types of calories.

I was never able to break 4hrs until I got to my ideal weight.  I got the nutrition part down, got lean and ran NYC in 3:33

Motivation How do you find motivation? Nov 28 2007

I created a mental picture of how I wanted my body to look.  I tried every diet imaginable until I found a plan which actually started showing results.  Every time someone mentioned how good I looked, it made me want it more.  The more I lost, the more dedicated I became.  Think of how happy you/family will be once you reach your goal.

It can be done!  2 years ago I was 205, now 157.  I lost 30 then became pretty stagnant.  I really dialed it in last fall and lost about 25 lbs of fat and put on 14lbs of muscle in  about 8 months.

I've been a triathlete since 2001 (Team in Training) but have been in and out of the sport over the years, largely due to my fluctuation in weight (hard to be competitive at 5'9" 205lbs)  Triathlon training and weight loss don't necessarily go hand.  After finally getting to my ideal weight I'm a lot more competitive.  I did LA and NY Olympics this year and will do an Ironman in 09.  I'd love to start a Tri Group?

Weight Loss How much weight did you lose in your first month of healthy dieting? Nov 27 2007
07:23 (UTC)

I lost about 15 lbs.  my first month.   The more exercise you do, the better!  I would suggest doing cardio at least 3 days a week/30-45 min a day.   I also advicate strength training.   There are so many variables, that is why one specific diet can't work for everyone.  I truly believe that each person needs a personalized nutrition/exercise plan!

Fitness First half-marathon- chilly weather- what to wear? Nov 27 2007

When I run a cold weather marathon, I wear throw away sweat pants/top covering shorts and a dry weave top.  Do not wear any type of sweatpants during the race, you'll regret it.  Stay warm w/ the sweats until the race starts, then strip them off.  You'll warm up quickly.  This is the Custom at the NYC marathon, which I ran Nov. 4th!

Good Luck!

Melkor, you seem like a very informed person.  I am, however going to make an assumption about you.  You are not ripped, and your BF is over 10%.  Before speaking gospel on weight training you should gather some data, and prove results! Quoting doctors doesn't justify results.  I am 35 yrs yrs old, 157LBS  3%  Body fat feel free to view my website  www.cole.mecray.com
