Take a picture of yourself naked... look at it next time you think that you are hungry. When I find myself feeling like I may go back to my old ways, I just pull out an old "fat picture" and BAM - like a slap in the face. Good luck. |

Original Post by pinkchubbymonkey: Exactly my point - unless directed by your doctor and MANY MANY people ARE directed by their doctors(s) to restrict their calories below 1200. So, if someone states they are eating less than 1200 - why not FIND OUT before starting the tongue lashings and "reviewing the CC RULES?" I have ALWAYS been told by my doctors too stay around 1000 calories a day and it's suicide to mention it on this site because EVERYONE knows better than my doctors and blood results. SHE WAS ASKING ABOUT HER BOWEL MOVEMENTS. |

Original Post by smwhipple: Not everyone needs 1200 calories per day to survive. That is a false blanket statement and pushed around this site way too much. I am NOT PROMOTING starving - I am all for a HEALTHY lifestyle but let's knock this crap off already. Is is RECOMMENDED FOR THE AVERAGE PERSON to consume in excess of 1200 calories a day. If you only have 1000 calories one day - you will NOT die from it - seriously now! Lap-band patients don't come NEAR 1200 calories and they don't die or lose their livers, kidneys, (other organs you listed) from it. They suplement with protein shakes and vitamins. Also - people with metabolic, thyroid and other issues are often instructed to restrict caloric intake below that 1200 "magic number." Sorry - but all these blanket statements are as bad as telling someone that eating cheesecake for breakfast is healthy. CONSULT YOUR (not an on-line one who has never examined you) PHYSICIAN!!!! Regarding the ORIGINAL POST - BM changes are common when you change your diet. If you are concerned, call your doctor for assurance.

YEP! I know someone who has been on Byetta for about 6 months and she just crashed through her goal weight. I know a few other people who have been on it too. I have a pen in my purse right now. It is given to patients as a weight loss aid - although many doctors wont admit it. You can lose up to 20 pounds a month on it. Lilly (the manufacturer) will tell you that it should not be prescribed JUST for weight loss but... I know a lot of people who have gotten it for weight loss and they are not insulin reisitant or diabetic. ( I AM ONE!) It really have no ill side effects besides - I totally couldn't eat. I am not a regular user so my story wont help as it is not typical. My problem was that I couldn't FORCE down more than 400 calories a day. I was gagging on peanut butter to get myself up from 200 calories to 400 or 500. (looking for HIGH CALORIE foods - wow - what a change!) This was only at the 5 mcg (2x day) dosage. I ONLY use it if I'm heading out to dinner and I"m STARVING and afraid of ordering and eating too much. My doctor knows exactly how I use it - maybe 5 times a month - if that. Most people take 2 dosages a day. They start out at 5mcg in the am and again in the pm for 2 months. After that - it's increased to 10mcg's 2x a day. It IS A MIRACLE drug for many people for weight loss. There are a few people on here who have posted about Byetta. Oh - when it seems to be less effective - get a new pen. They don't last more than 30 days - even if there is medicine left in the pen. GOOD LUCK!

My gym has the exact same thing. I LOVE IT and then I am usually so pumped up afterwards that I do another 1/2 hour of just the weight machines - to focus on the areas that the machines in the 30 minute work-out room do not cover. I seem to lose faster when I include this room into my workout. |

Great question. I still have a long way to go but I don't feel like people are staring at me anymore when I am out and about in public. I've pretty much had it with two of my "fat friends." Anytime they asked me what I was doing and God-For-Bid I said, "going to the gym" - I would get this "SIGH" or a "Whatever," from them. They've said nothing when they've seen me. I'm not looking for praise but EVERY "normal weight" friend who has seen me lately is so happy for me - hug me - spin me around, etc.. I've noticed that all my fat friends ever talk about is food food food also. They are always telling me about what they cooked, ate, bought at the grocery store, etc. It's SOOOOO BORING. It would be like me telling them every excercise I do at the gym everyday. WHO CARES?!?! Honestly, when they tell me about some recipe that includes cheese, cream, butter, etc., I just want to scream at them to shut up because you know that the next minute they will be crying about the way they look or that they can't lose weight. hmph. Another "fat friend" (actually a relative) keeps trying me to go out to eat with her to have "Gyros and Fries." I tell her everytime - "I'll go with you and you get what you want and I'll get what I want but I'm telling you now that I don't eat that." She gets pissed off and tells me that she'll ask someone else who is FUN. I KNOW she wouldn't act that way if someone told her they had a food allergy. Well, I would much rather be considered NOT fun than die early from clogged arteries and morbid obesity! Hell, I have LOTS of fun - more and more as I get smaller too (ask my hubby! hahahaha). Everyone else is SO supportive and I've made SO many new friends at the gym lately. I'd much rather spend an afternoon working out with someone than eating french fries and crying about our weight. My fat friends don't agree so I'll chalk it up to misery loves company. Yes - they have changed towards me and also - I have changed and I'm never goin' back!!!!

If your wife tell you that she is starting to not be attracted to you because you gained weight.. ummmm.... I would re-evaluate my marriage. Sorry but that's the way I see it. Hope she never gets old, wrinkly or have any problems. If she is concerned for your health - that's another story. Do this for your health - the rest is a bonus! As far as the excercise goes - you have a LOT going on in your life right now. Don't be so hard on yourself. School - work AND family with KIDS? WOW. Try spending some "run-a-round" time with the kids. If they are small - take them for walks in a stroller - bike seats, etc. It will be good for you AND them to spend time with a hard-working Dad! MAKE THE TIME - you can't get it back! My heart goes out to you. Good luck! |

Try one week of totally changing your eating habits. I mean, if you eat a well-balanced diet, try no/little carbs and LOTS of protein for a week. I have a hunch that this might shock your body enough. Even avoid complex carbs - fruits. One week wont hurt you and you can see if you get any results. Also - TOTALLY change up your workout. I don't know how long you work out but try equal times of cardio and weights everyday (5-6 days a week - minimum 1 hour) for a week. If that doesn't work - I would really speak to a doctor - endochronolgist. Let me know if you get any results? Interesting thing you are going through - must suck for you. Keep trying!

I just spray that no calorie butter flavor spray and have it as a side-dish. Kinda simple and plain but we like it. By the way - I cook mine in the microwave as opposed to baking it in the oven - it really speeds up the prep time and keeps the moisture in. |

| Weight Loss | Over my daily allowance night not over? | Mar 23 2008 18:51 (UTC) |

I'm a night (evening) eater. I usually am between 1200-1400 calories a day. I try to keep my caloric intake 500 or under until dinner so I can do my eating when I want to the most - dinner and evening. It really works well for me. If you need to eat and not necessarily hungry (hmmm) eat low low low cal foods - cantaloupe, plain rice cakes, sugar free gum, carrot and celery sticks, etc. I tried to eat a larger breakfast (under the advice of EVERYONE) and it was disasterous because I STILL wanted to eat more calories at night (or I can't sleep because of hunger). Listen to YOUR body - it takes some time to learn what's best for you but you'll get it. 1350 is absolutely do-able! Good luck. |

Working out has helped me more than anything. I have a long way to go on my journey but I've gotten a great start by eating healthy and working out. It's a life-long process. This website was very instrumental the first 2 months of my "healhty eating" lifestyle. I do NOT diet because diets END and my healthy eating is a life-long thing. Counting those calories (and DO IT!) will really put things in perspective. Make smart choices and when you just can't live without a piece (or 2 - NOT THE WHOLE BOX) of chocolate - HAVE IT but then watch those calories in those other foods so you stay within your recommended range. If you are sad, bored, whatever and want to eat alllllll day long - ok - do it - BUT don't go over those calories - believe me - you'll get over the constant eating thing. Keeping track of everything you put in your mouth (NO CHEATING!) really is a huge wakeup call. It took me 2-3 months to stop eating all of the time and for the wrong reasons. YOU CAN DO THIS! I never knew how depressed I REALLY was until I started working out and my head has cleared. I am still considered morbidly obese but not for long! :) It's funny because your weight and height doesn't look so bad to me (compared to my situation) but you need to feel good about yourself. Try counting those calories - making good choices and doing something good for yourself everyday! Spending time on this site and readng letters of encouragement can help - don't eat while you're on the computer - try a piece of sugarless gum. If you're busy doing something, you are less likely to mindless eat. Good luck! |

You are on your way to be a very thin.... corpse.... if you think that weighing 94 pounds is too much. What does your doctor say? Please be careful and I agree with the others that 85 pounds is not a healthy weight for an adult - even us short ones! |

Try changing up your workout routines and also what you are eating. It's not only the calories - it's what those calories are coming from. I lose much faster if I eat 1400 calories from low-fat protein, fruits and veggies as opposed to processed carbs-type foods. Those 100 calorie cookie packages were not doing me any good. Good luck! |

| It took me about a month to get "regular" after I changed my eating habits. I treat myself to a Fiber One bar when I need extra fiber. It's SO yummy - I swear it's better than any candy bar out there. It fills you up and helps with the bathroom problems. It's often my afternoon snack, along with some tea. It worked for me. If you cannot afford the extra calories, Metamucil (get the sugar free) works but it is NOT as tasty. Don't overdo on the rice cakes or bananas - they were a killer for me. | |||

| Eat fiber rich foods. You can even try a fiber supplement drink before or after meals - it WILL fill you up! Drinking water never filled me up for more than the time it took to pee it out but once I added one of those flavored powder fiber supplements - it really worked. The sugar free orange is good - just make sure it's COLD water and drink it kinda fast or it gets thick and disgusting. | |||

Geesh - people actually FAST to cleanse their bodies and souls in many religions and countries. THEY ARE NOT dropping dead from it. Everything in moderation - if you feel ill - eat more - if you feel fine - stick to what you wanted to do for that day. Good luck and LIGHTEN UP ppl. I have no idea what it really is but I was in a restaurant about a year ago and I was REALLY sick to my stomach - this was before dinner. The waiter gave me "bitters" - it was like seltzer and wasn't really bitter but it wasn't great either. It was not sweet at all. IT REALLY WORKED - amazingly well to the point that I ate dinner about 20 minutes later.
Good luck - hope the vodka was yummy! |

I paid about $1000 dollars for mine - and that was 7 years ago. It still works great and I have NEVER had a problem with it - except I find walking on it REALLY boring - even with tv, music, reading. Anyway - it's a Norditrack EXP2000 so if you find this on Ebay, Amazon or someplace like that - you can feel secure that it is a good, heavy, solid machine with lots of options for different workouts. It electrically inclines, tracks pulse and calories burned, and you can even hook it up to the internet and d/l additional workouts (I never did this). Oh - you can also program it to make different workouts for yourself. BTW - if anyone wants to buy it - I'm in Middletown NY. I rarely use it and want to make room for a home gym/weight set.

18 is not young - well - it really depends on the individual but you sound like you have yourself together. Geesh - my mom was married at 18, I was married at 20 and that was NOT the first time I had sex. Again - 18 is an adult. Just remember that both of you need to take it slowly, be patient and RESPECT each other - in and out of the bed. PLEASE - allow yourselves to laugh at yourselves - the sometime clumsiness, akwardness, etc. It's SUPPOSED to be fun - discuss your concerns before you head to the bedroom and by all means - vocalize things that you both like and GENTLY "guide" away from things you are not into. Good luck. |

THANK YOU for offering really great ideas that address my problem. People keep telling me WHAT to eat..... I want to STOP eating at night. I bought the s/f metamucil tonight and that seems to be the trick! I've been sipping it for a while - I am STUFFED and ready for bed - at a reasonable hour. It was only 20 calories and no fat. I also REALLY upped my fiber today from about 12 to 29 and I could barely finish dinner (salad with shrimp & grilled chicken in it). I had a LUNA bar after dinner (about 7pm) and that is it! YAY YAY. I can do this! I also liked the poster who said that she eats like a KING for breakfast , a Queen for lunch and a PAUPER(lol) for dinner. I MUST remember this saying - probably put it on my fridge. I just love you guys - this is the BEST thing I have EVERY done for my health and really - the people here have REALLY helped and made a difference in my life! NO MORE starving stupid diets. No more depression. No more thinking that I would be dead by 50 because of my body. |

Oh - one more thing... it is ALL about Alternatives and Allowances. (I've coined it AA! lol ) Find alternatives for those fattening foods that you just cannot live without. There is NOTHING that I haven't found a alternative to - some I even prefer to the old fattening killer foods. If for some reason you cannot find a satisfying alternative, I would recommend that you DO NOT deprive yourself. Just eat a small portion to satisfy the craving. You may need to alter your foods for the day to make room or an allowance for the calories/fat/etc. of your treat.
