Thanks everyone for your advice :)

I'm going to try and keep to a regular eating pattern. Over the past two days I have started feeling really cold and shivering quite violently AFTER i eat something - is this a common symptom? I'm hoping it will correct itself soon, because its not a nice feeling!

Thanks again

That is interesting.....Im 5ft10.5 and my therapist, dietician and doctor have never said that to me, and they've always gone by my bmi...what height are you, if you don't mind me asking, tessa1223?

Seeing as the bmi chart caters for pretty much all heights I dont see why it wouldnt be as accurate for tall people; what reasoning does your therapist give?

Thank you so much for the replies everyone, i never expected such a helpful response!

Its good to know its not out of the ordinary to have it twice a day, then. Im going to look for some soya milk tomorrow, im hoping I'll find some vanilla stuff! This might be a ridiculous question, but does soya milk have the same amount of calcium in it though as cows milk?! The dietician I see is always keen to push for lots of calcium, for obvious reasons..

I find it hard to have any other cereal apart from weetabix, cos i freak out about measuring the right amount of other cereals :( Im going to start, though, because i love cereal and I obviously im trying to work on getting rid of these ED behaviours. :)...I was going to try Bran Flakes, but Grape Nuts sounds intruiging! I'll look in Tesco :)

thank you so much for the replies :)

rebelchick1017, I've read a lot of your posts and know how much you know about all these things, so Im super glad you replied :) Yeah, Im actually getting a bone scan next week to check for bone loss. I guess i shouldn't worry too much about the dairy thing, i think I've just been brainwashed by all those things you read telling you dairy is really bad for you and you shouldn't have too many portions of it, yada yada..

I feel better after your reassurance, so i think i will start having it twice. thanks !  :)

kfirth1, yeah I eat weetabix (im from the UK, its maybe just a british cereall?) which is low in sugar and doesn't have any weird stuff in it so it is fine :) Im really intrigued by vanilla soymilk though! Would i be able to get that from a normal supermarket?

Thank you for the replies :)

Yeah, im starting to think a blind weigh is a good idea. I've realised that no matter what my weight is, im never happy. If its down, i feel like i've failed, if its up, i feel greedy and awful too! So maybe not knowing could make things easier.

Health & Support ED recoverers: post your worst ED memory Feb 15 2009

I can completely relate to so many of these posts. I never knew that so many others had the same feeling when they went to sleep at night.... I always hated the sound of my heart beating so slowly. It always felt like it was taking its last beat.

My worst memory was a week after I had been admitted as an inpatient. My mum was visiting that day, I hadnt seen her since I had been admitted, so I was really excitied. An hour after she arrived though, my doctor came in and told me my heart rate was dangerously low - I had to be taken to hospital for emergency treatment. I had to have a naso-gastric tube - I can remember seeing my Mums face after they had put it in. She looked so, so sad. And just before she left, the doctor came to talk to her and i can remember hearing him speak from behind the curtain, saying "The next few days will be touch and go. Its very serious". And I just felt dead already. The scariest moment of my life..

I just ate a cereal bar out in public :) I know it sounds silly and easy but its a big thing I think! Im currently an IP but I was out at the library using the internet, so I had my afternoon snack out, with other people around. And managed not to freak out! Not sure if your technically ALLOWED to eat in libraries....but meh! :D

Health & Support IP for ED Jan 28 2009

Hi. I'm currently an IP in the UK.. I don't know how much help I will be but I will certainly answer any worries or queries you have about what to expect (I know its maybe a bit late now, sorry). The idea of becoming an IP was terrifying for me, but I can definitely say that you will receive a lot of support, and that that should hopefully make things easier for you. Sometimes things just get beyond our control, and its too difficult to make changes on our own - I know it became like that for me. I hope that being an IP is a positve experience for you and you can begin to work on a healthier relationship with food and weight. xxx

Lalabanana - Yup, im from the UK :) How was your leavers day? My school is tiny so we didn't have anything like that, we just sorta left! I stay in Shetland, what about you? How is the job searching going? What kinda NHS job would you like?

That seems pretty convenient about the specialists, which is good. How often do you go, and do you have a dietician? Im really interested to know how helpful they are. Owwww, four hour train journeys, THOSE cant be fun!

Thanks for the welcome! xxxx

Hi everyone

This is my first post, though I have been reading these forums for support for a while now. Everyone seems lovely and gives so  much advice that I thought I would write, hopefully this is the right thread for it?

Im 18, just starting the long process of recovery from anorexia. Two days ago i should have been on a plane to Japan, for an exchange trip, but I found out a week ago that I was too underweight to go. I was/am devastated, since it has been my ambition to travel to Japan for years... Now im stuck at home the entire summer. my eating disorder has ruined the best holiday i could have had, and i dont want it to ruin other parts of my life (such as university, which i start in September )

Anyways, im trying to recover. Had an appointment with a consultant, and have another one on monday. There are no specialists in ed's where i live so we have to do it by a video link up. Its going to be strange! Should also be seeing a dietition at some point - hopefully that will be helpful.

I really like these forums and i hope i get to know some of you, because its great to realise that im not alone in this, so many people here have the same struggles, fears, hopes and things.
