I have never bought any of those "name brand diets" but I managed to loose weight by becoming more conscious of what I ate. I don't believe in cutting something from the daily diet, I avoid "empty calories", but nothing is forbidden. A couple of months ago I decided to start really counting calories and I must say this is the best method I ever have used. The freedom it gives to eat anything you like is just great. One just has to be aware of cutting down other things if one wants to eat candy or something else with many calories. In my experience just loosing weight gives extra energy and better sleep. I continued to be bloated despite my weight loss and didn't get rid of that until I had a hysterectomy. Then the bloating disappeared. And since I am very active I don't feel this slow metabolism many women my age complain about. I am 47, and most definitely past menopause since I have had my uterus removed. Consider this reply (and the one before this) as an opportunity to choose a safe method to loose weight. Count calories and exercise. :) Good luck |

| Expensive shoes can cause problems as well as cheap shoes. I bought expensive shoes last summer and started having problems almost immediately. The shoe salesman had all kinds of arguments that those were the right shoes for me. But, I have been running for many years and knew that this felt all wrong, I stopped using those new shoes and the problems disappeared. So, for me, the ordinary running shoes fit best, even if the only cost half of what the other shoes cost. | |||

| I would go outside. I live in Iceland and it gets very cold in the winter but I continue to go out and run almost every day. And really run. If you continue as it gets colder day by day, you will get used to it. And be careful to wear the right clothes and cover bare skin. I read your profile and saw you are dealing with depression. And if you continue to go outside in the daylight it also will help preventing the seasonal mood swings. This article: http://www.depressiontreatmenthelp.org/overco me-depression.php is a great argument for running. (you have to scroll down a bit to get to the part about aerobic exercise) | |||

What I do is take what I crave for, whatever it is, and cut it. Count calories and then decide to eat like 200 calories of it. Maybe it is only just a tiny bit, but I try to make it last. And, of course, I put all the rest away, in a sealed bag somewhere where I can't see it. All this effort seems to make it less desirable. And I don't have to feel bad about anything. Besides, if I am careful to include some fat in my diet I don't get those cravings as much. If my diet is almost fat-free the cravings are killing me. So I do use oil quite a lot. Just remember to count the calories in that also. And they are many. But it pays off in making me feel better. |

5 miles three times a week is good. Who says you have to run a marathon? Just keep on doing what you have been doing as long as you feel good about it. You can run 10k en the beginning if you want to run a race. And I am sorry, this article by Rachel Cosgrove is not describing my life. I know many runners who don't get injuries. For me it seems as if she is trying to get people inside the gym. The gyms to not get much money from us who prefer staying outside. I have run a whole marathon and I have never had an injury in my life. If you are a natural talent there is nothing you have to worry about. |

I can easily understand if you want to loose some more, because when you are running you feel very clearly that you run faster if you loose weight. The problem is where you are going to stop? Are you going to be satisfied with weighing 55 kilos? I think you can not afford to loose any more weight. For a girl that is 10 cm taller than I am, 58 kilos do not seem much. As a matter of fact my own goal is 55 kilos, but I am only 161 cm and my BMI will still be in the normal range. I ran a whole marathon last august and then my weight was 67 kilos. Yes, that is possible too. I got the time 4:16 Please do not loose weight because you want to be better at running the marathon. Yes, it will be easier to run if you aren't carrying extra weight around, but you are not carrying extra weight now so there is no reason for you to loose any more. Don't risk loosing muscles now. You will need them at the marathon. The marathon itself will not be too hard on you if you are careful to drink sports drinks with lots of energy (carbs and minerals) on the way. Good luck, and BTW congratulations on your weight loss :)

| I would drink a little apple juice or orange juice. That keeps my nausea away. And you don't need much. Or just eat the fruit. I know this problem and this is what I do to avoid it | |||
