I did want to ask if anyone every tried "visualization" or meditation etc. I know I said no hokey pokey stuff, but I really wanted to know what people TELL themselves. Even if it's horrible.

When you work a muscle, you make microscopic tears in the tissue.  That is part of the reason of why you are sore.   When the muscle repairs itself, it brings in a lot of extra fluid.  That results is a weight gain.  Once things settle down, the muscle gets rid of the fluid and you will lose.

Other possible reasons can be fluid retention from TOM.  That is usually good for at least a couple of pounds on most women.  The bottom line is that you will lose weight slowly and unevenly.  Scales bounce around and you will never figure out why.  Give it time.  And make sure that you log everything that passes your lips and measure portion size, at least at first.  You could be eating more than you think.

I'm not new to calorie counting, and I measure pretty darn well. (I'm not anal or anything)

Thanks you guys! I know that for the amount of exercise I'm doing, I'm not overeating. I'm also not new to using weights, it's just been a while. Can someone explain the fluid retention to me a little better?

My muscles are sore, so I know that I'm building, but I also cut out cals... So am I doing something wrong?

Wow, I really can't relate, most of this stuff I love!

but there is one that I absolutely HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE and a lot of people think I'm crazy but, I hate, loathe and dispise:

1. RED LICORICE

even thinking of the smell gives me a headache. I don't know what it is, I like black licorice, but the red kind is like being stuck in Hades for me... that chemical smell.... UGGGHHH!

I have a few "don't really likes" but this is my ultimate HATE.

I think another thing that will help a lot, even if you don't exercise more, is in the morning, eat old fashion oatmeal... whether you like it or not. Add milk and even a little sugar to it if you want (* only a little though*). I would suggest buying some whole wheat pasta, instead of side kicks. You need a lot more fruits and veggies. The thing about the oatmeal and pasta, it may pack more calories than the special k (which in this case is good), but also, there is a lot of fibre and healthy vitamins etc. which will keep you fuller longer. I used to think special k was great, but I would always be soooo hungry after an hour of eating it, because it's like eating puffed air. 

If you change just a few things you will definitely lose quicker and more steady. If you're wondering why you aren't losing weight, most likely (like many other people have said here)  it's because you aren't eating enough and not enough good stuff therefore, your body thinks it needs to hold on to its reserves (fat). If you convince your body there's enough of a good supply, it will be more willing to let go of it's fat.

Tuna is good, and you know, what? Personally I think you are okay on what your eating, but you NEEEEEEEED green food, and all the other colors. Spinach, apples, broccoli etc. etc. the list goes on. Good fibrous foods with nutrition.

I actually have a question for you girls. I'm a little confused by calories burns vs. calories we intake in a day. On average, I eat 1400-1500 calories in a day, and I jog 6 times a week for an hour. Some days three times a week, I'll work to work and classes for an added half hour to forty minutes. I know you have to lose 3500 calories per pound, but considering my stats, am I on target to lose weight by middle February? (Figure Valentine's Day, just for good measure lol.) Anyone that could help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it.

 

I'll make an example as far as I understand the deficit:

Bob's regular metabolism (just sitting doing nothing, living etc.) burns 3000 calories a day.He normally eats about 3000 calories a day, so he's not losing any weight. BUT, he decides he wants to LOSE weight... SO:

He starts using a tredmill and takes note that he's burning 300 calories everytime he works out. He also decides to cut back on his nut snacking (and he cuts out 200 calories worth). Now he's burning 300 off a day and eating 200 calories less, which means that in one day out of 3000 calories, there is a 500 calorie difference. MEANING that in one week, he will lose one pound. 

That's what I understand about calories burned etc. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though! lol.

The best thing I can suggest, is that one, you start taking two Vitamin E capsules a day and drink more water than normal. Creams are good, but you need to actually repair from the inside out! I would also suggest to take two tablespoons of flax seed oil a day, and do a rough exfoliation (I like to use Apricot Scrub by St. Ives) 2-3 times a week for surface stimulation. These things will help your cells keep and rebuild elasticity. Other than those things, you have to keep in mind that losing weight will gradually slow down naturally, but if you are extremely worried about it, adjust your calories. Also, I've heard weight training helps tone the skin, so maybe this is an option for you too. Congrats to you on your super success by the way, and I know that a lot of people are suggesting plastic surgery, but I would try a more holistic approach before giving in to surgery. But, hey- that's just me!

Wow!  I love you guys! youre so positive! hahaha.

I hate to be utter stupid... but, how can I measure a mile- without buying a gadget? Like how many blocks roughly is a mile? Or, how can I measure it? lol. 

I have no idea how far I ride right now... I go probably about 20-30 blocks and back (can anyone give me an estimate as far as miles go?). I know I will get better, since I'm new, but I would love to be able to track my progress...
