Thanks for the reassurance and support you guys! It really did make me feel a whole lot better about gaining weight :) I am not looking to have extremely sharp cheekbones with hollowed-out cheeks, but I just wish that I didn't have this double chin. My cheekbones are also higher than average and that makes my face look really, really wide with the extra fat packed on. When I look at candid shots of myself, I cringe because of how big and round my face looks, especially when compared to the other people surrounding me. Sigh. Would drinking more water help, perhaps, in reducing the bloatedness of my cheeks? |

Btw, I am of Chinese descent and am very small-framed. I did, and she has been telling me that I'm perfectly fine and healthy and don't need to worry about anything. Time to change doctor?

Hi Jane! Thanks for the advice. My BMI according to that site is actually 17.4 and my figure of 1800 was based on the Daily Energy Requirements under "Low Activity", which is 1840. However, I am here on this site mainly to learn how to live healthily and develop better eating habits. I am very very open to any criticism or suggestions from fellow CC-ers, and will definitely take your advice (and everyone else's) to heart. I will increase my daily calorie intake to 2500-3000 cals a day from now on :) Thank you! |

Thank you all for the advice :) I will try to up my intake to 1800 and see how it goes, and also try to put in more exercise. Would walking 2km per day be considered as "Lightly Active" or "Sedentary" on the child BMI calculator? |

I ordered a Seafood Meal on China Airlines last December and got grilled fish with veggies for one meal and seafood pasta for the other. All I can say is that it was delicious. My seatmates were all staring at my food enviously. If your airline has the Seafood Meal option, I strongly recommend you order it! |

My family likes to use it for steamboat. kyoji: #2 - By "dry pan fry" do you mean without using any oil at all? Do you precook the tofu/meat and veggies before adding it? Do you have to add any water? |

I've been taking brown rice with either chicken, turkey, tofu, prawns or eggs on some days, and pasta with marinara sauce on others, and when I feel really lazy, I'll just make a cold cheese or turkey sandwich to munch on :) |

| There most definitely is coconut milk in there. I'd eat it sparingly, if I were you :) What you can do though, is make it yourself, and substitute the coconut milk with either skim evaporated milk or yoghurt. | |||

| I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but durian is high in saturated fat and calories, and it's known to cause sore throats. So while the amount you ate isn't really that bad (I know quite a few people who eat way more than you!), I'd suggest you drink lots of water to prevent any sore throats :) And also, don't do this everyday! | |||

| I mix canned tuna flakes with a little bit of salt and black pepper, and I sometimes add thyme, rosemary or oregano if I feel like it. I just spread some toast with tomato paste, add the tuna on top, and stick it into the toaster oven for about 6 mins. Smells really good and tastes even better! :) | |||

I'm not using self-raising flour. Should I be? So what you guys are saying is that oil does not affect the rising, but egg does. How about milk? It makes it softer, but does it affect the rising? I think I'll just post the recipe I used so it'll make things easier: 1/2 tsp salt 30g gluten (about 4 tbsp) 1 tsp sugar 2 tsp yeast 3 cups whole wheat flour 1 cup bread flour 1 cup lukewarm water So I let the yeast froth up while mixing the rest of the dry ingredients and combined it into a dough. I didn't really knead it a lot, just balled it up and left it in the oven (about 40 C) to proof for two hours. After that, I took it out, did 10 mins of kneading, and proofed it again for two hours. Then I baked it at 200 C for 40mins, and it came out pretty hard and dense. So if I were to try it again for a softer, higher loaf, which is the most important to add - milk, oil, or eggs? |

I used active dry yeast which was pretty fresh I think. I dissolved it in lukewarm water together with the sugar and left it to froth for 5 mins. I made sure it was really nice and frothy before I mixed it in with the flour. The salt was together with the flour, so I don't think that's a problem. I placed the dough in my warm oven for about 2 hours to proof. The problem is, the previous time when I didn't omit the oil, milk and egg, but kept the whole wheat to bread flour ratio the same, the bread rose beautifully and it wasn't hard and dense like it because this time. Could the oil/milk/egg have made it softer and played a part in the rising? |
