| Health & Support | Bulimic to compulsive binger? | Nov 18 2009 12:42 (UTC) |
|
I'm not overweight - I lead VERY active lifestyle, so I'm not finding it affecting me too much at present weightwise as its only once or twice a week but I'm worried it'll get worse or I won't be able to maintain the amount of exercise I'm doing to counter my binges.
I do think my definition of a binge is pretty accurate - lately its been stuff like after aving had dinner and normal meals, I might order a pizza delivery plus 2 or 3 desserts and eat and eat until I physically can't anymore, or I just eat way through a tub of icecream, 3 chocolate bars, 2 packets of crisps..ect. It always leaves me feeling uncomfortably full and sick. I do think my real answer would be to see my therapist again..I have a review meeting at the beginning of december so I'll ask her about phone therapy as I'm by no means "over" the psycholigical problems which caused my ED and maybe my eating won't ever be normal until it is..
thanks :) |

Not sure if that would work for me hehe, I'm a student so have no cash going spare as it is :P
I think distraction is what helps me..but I need to start working on it.
Its onlyt really started bothering me - same as bulimia, for a year and a bit I didn't 'notice' it, but then I did, which is when it started changing. Like the binging wassn't bothering me cos I was still losing weight, but now it is so now I can start changing it cos I'm recognising it as a porlbme?
Thanks :) |

Okay, I'll do a short cardio workout tomorrow then try some of the weight machines at the gym..Maybe the machines are more my thing than free weights?
There were so many repetitions with that class as well that I lost interest..I have a pretty short attention span, but I hold it doing cardio by constantly competing against myself
thanks :) |

-shrugs- I dunno, I just did as I was told? and the first time I went she corrected the way I was doing it a few times ect..
But my main question really is can I have a toned tummy without doing weight exercises as long as I do other exercise? (once I've lost the flabby layer on top lol)
cos if I dont have to do it, I'd be so happy hehe! |

It doesnt hurt right away, but like...after repeating it god knows how many times that you have to in the pump class it gets very hard work.
I can deal with the ache the day after but because I know its gonna be such hard work I really cannot be bothered..whereas I enjoy all the other exercise..the weights is a chore so its really hard to motivate myself? |

Yeah I am doing a calorie controlled diet as well, 1800 calories on non-workout days then 2200 calories on workout days as I'm tall and active even on non-workout days.
I've tried my own routines and also pump classes at the gym and I just don't like them because they hurt too much XD
Thankss, happier now cos I was feeling guilty for not doing weight exercises cos I wanna be toned but I really dislike it.

| Weight Loss | Do you think my binges are caused by not eating enough? | Oct 27 2009 11:55 (UTC) |

Thanks everyone :) When I make pasta I always include veggies and usually meat/cheese/quorn, and I always have veggies with my main meal and often a salad, I wouldn't really be sure how else to include them when I'm just having sandwiches or toast for lunch and breakfast?
Whenever I have pasta/bread/rice ect its always brown/wholemeal/wholegrain, I never have white bread ect.
Thanks everyone, I'll definately try and eat more, it's hard because I then get very paranoid I'm going to gain weight but after a week or two where I'm not gaining weight I'll be better. |

Well if its a good day, lets say
I'd have
Breakfast -Either Cereal (probably about 1 and a half times the normal serving size cos its tiny), like frosties or cocopops with skimmed milk and a peice of fruit
Or 2 bits of toast with peanut butter and jam with a peice of fruit
Lunch will be something along the lines of Toasted pitta bread with ham & cheese with a peice of fruit or salad Sandwhich with fruit or salad Pasta with fruit or salad
Then a dinner which is never over 500-600 calories (I use a lot of recipes from a book I have which states calories, thats how I know) and a peice of fruit for desert
I'll eat like that for up to a week and then the binging start. and yeah I know entirely what you mean! and my ED still hasa voice which is like..encouraging me to have tiny meals or skip them and its really hard not to, which is another thing which is making me think I'm not eating enough cos if I don't watch it, my portions get smaller and smaller.
In the last couple of months I've lost 6 pounds in total, though what tends to happen is I lose a lot of weight quickly (up to 4 pounds a week) when I eat well, then binging puts all of it back on and so on and so forth so I'm pretty stuck.. |

| Fitness | My strength training routine is driving me to tears | Oct 13 2009 21:46 (UTC) |

Thanks I'll have a look :D
Erm I'm following just a workout that came with my set of weights - a combination of things working legs, arms, abs and sides but I think I want to focus more on legs and abs as my arms are pretty toned anyway (I have horses so mucking out and riding = strong, toned arms), not sure exactly whats in it off by heart and don't have the leaflet with me but :P
its taking 30 - 40 minutes depending how long I have breaks for in between, thats ok, I think tis just the repetition I'm wanting to kill myself about lol. I can't up the weight unless I buy more weights as I'm already using the heaviest ones of the 3 sets I've got.
Thanks guys, I'll make up a new workout from those moves, time for a change I think! |

Thanks :) That does sound about right. I've only found myself getting tired the day after doing a lot of exercise. Like Tuesday - I had a bit of a...misunderstanding with my boyfriend. My day went something like this exercise wise - cycled home from his in the mornig (25 mins, mostly uphill), walked to school (ok like 5 minutes but still), walked home, cycled to his to sort out our disagreement(about 15 mins but mostly downhill), cycled home again (another 25 mins, mostly uphill).
Then my driving instructor didn't turn up - combination of that plus problems with bf had me pretty stressed so I went for a 30 min extra run to calm myself down, then did my strength training exercises as it was a Tuesday....AND THEN got convinced to cycle down to bfs to spend the night there. Didn't go to the yard as I was meant to have a driving lesson - obviously this was a pretty excessive amount of exercise and I do not exercise like that normally, it was a big one off lol!
The next day I was tired so I skipped my run (did it today instead) and had some extra calories.
Thanks :D |

I'd like to but I'll have to start a week on Monday as I'm going away. Name: Josie
Goal by Christmas? 10 stone 5 pounds
I just concentrate on eating 3 healthy meals a day (calorie counting triggers old ED habits) except for on special occasions. Interval running 3 times a week and weights twice a week (though my programme finishes in November so will start a new one) also ride my 2 horses most days a week
I'd love to be there :D |

About the 20% thing, thats why I let myself have like chocolate every sunday ect (if I eat it without "rules" I'll eat it 3 times a day) and why I'm generally happy about special occasions being days off or whatever, but I'm starting to panic with old ED thoughts cos of all of this together.
Thanks - thats a good idea about thinking about now. I'll try and bear it in mind..I just seem to worry about the fututre too much |

I'm in.
I've had bulimia for about a year and a half now, and started proper treatment in March. At my worst I was binging and purging 8 or 9 times a day, losing/gaining 10 pounds within a week and so on and so forth.
Its gradually gotten better, to the point where I can go for a week or two then my willpower pops. So as a sort of Final, closure, incentive kind of thing, I got my tongue pierced a week ago. I want that to mark the last time I binge and purge. Its still too sore to contemplate sticking my fingers down my throat (or binging for that matter) so its working so far :P
I'm still struggling to get into normal eating habits, and my illness caused me to gain over a stone which I'm trying to lose by exercise and just eating 3 meals a day (calorie counting sets me back). My therapist agrees with what I'm doing..one day we'll get there :D |

| Weight Loss | Eating when drunk | Jul 26 2009 22:09 (UTC) |

Thanks everyone - some very good suggestions me thinks. Its only a problem when its like at my house? When I'm at someone elses's I don't eat at all but for some reason when its round mine, all thoughts go out the window.
Next time its round mine I'll get some healthy snacks and gum for me - it seems really especially at this age all snacks at this sort of thing are like pizza, crisps, popcorn, chocolate ect and if its there I munch it hehe.
And no lol not getting drunk really isn't an option. I don't do it every night and not even every weekend, but when we do party, getting drunk is just part of it for me and I love it. Maybe its not healthy but...that doesn't massively concern me if I'm entirely honest. >.< |

| Fitness | Should I exercise more? | Jul 02 2009 13:56 (UTC) |

Thanks everyone She's a border collie but doesn't look like a normal one as she's lightbrown and white, I think she's gorgeous though.
Musiclover222 - About 8 months after it got really bad I just sort of woke up one morning and realised what I was doing just wasn't normal. So I researched it on the internet, realised how scarily I fighted the criteria, managed to pluck up the courage to tell 1 of my best friends, and another 6 months later I finally went to the doctor. No one guessed without me telling them, though I think my mum had an idea as she used to make sly suggestive comments about me throwing up. |

Whats HIIT? Thanks :) An hour of weights does sound pretty good though..I also thought maybe get back in the habit of walking the dog for at least half an hour a day? (my mum walks her as well and she runs around with the horses so she does get enough exercise, but hey a collie dog won't say no) |

| Weight Loss | Had an eating disorder in the past and now I can't lose weight. Am I screwed? | Jun 17 2009 18:32 (UTC) |

-hugs- Not quite the same but in my (on going) recovery from bulimia I've gained 20 pounds in total, I'm scared to properly count and restrict cos I don't wanna go back there yet I feel I can't accept myself until I get back to my "normal" weight.
So I know how you feel |

Recovery could last a lifetime with an ED..only a third of people ever recover, but thats precisly why I'm not counting or restricting..my question is more based around forming habits. As part of my recovery I'm seeing counsellors & nutrionists but I had to cancel my last arranged (and what would have been the first) nutrionist appointment and a new 1 hasn't yet been arranged so I'm sort of hoping for advice to tide me over meanwhile..
2 years?? Blimeeey :S
Thansk tho lol |

Don't worry I'm still going to get the professional help, I've realised I have a problem now and its the only negative thing I have in my life right now, so this is the best time I'm gonna have to tackle it. |

Thanks I'll copy and paste this into the other section too...I am getting help (or waiting for it anyway) just hoping I can do something meanwhile.. I'm not /too/ fussed about losing weight - when I was the weight I was last week, that was my comfortable weight, not really overweight technically [feels it to me but I'm slowly accepting I have slightly distorted body image going on], and if I could get back to that I'd happily stay there.
I've been trying to avoid calorie counting as then I obsess even more but I guess I could start it up again, might help me start eating normally again.
Thanks :), I really really need the support right now so thanks very much

They shouldn't have told her though - I specifically asked if it was confidential and they said it was but she found out, so it wasnt =/
thanks though, will keep an eye on this thread. I..I think I'm ready to admit to having a problem and seriously at this point I just want it to stop so I can..gah I dunno.
I guess I'm pretty pleased I can actually type out now that I'm ill becuase I guess that means I'm beginning to understand it myself. |

My dad works abroad so thats not really any help.
I just don't know where to GO for help =/ I'm not close to any adults, I can't go back to the doctors cos they told my mum and I can't deal with this plus her shouting at me aboutr it..I know its just because shes worried but it doesn't make it any easier.
Thanks, I understand what you're saying |

Sorry, I know this particular craving will go away, but like...if I force myself to only eat when hungry, (and then eat these things I want, but mainly healthily when I AM hungry) will I eventually stop getting cravings to eat when I'm not hungry, completly?
Thanks =) Don't think I was being very clear |
