The Lounge Should a pre-op Transexual (wo)man be allowed in women's change rooms? Mar 06 2009

Okay I'm normally a lurker here, but I felt I had something to contribute. My Boyfriend is transgendered, from female to male. Now to be clear, he hasn't had any surgery and is still by all accounts a woman.

He doesn't use any facilities at all if he can help it, but if the need does arise he uses the ladies room. Not because he wants to, but because he knows he's not the only one in the restroom and it's better to use the "proper" facilities than risk a huge issue with people over it.

It's a tough spot to be in, but I think that this trans-woman should use the mens facilities in this case, I know it's something that is an issue for many trans people, but sometimes you just have to do something you don't want to do to be fair to everyone.

Nobody is asking her to call herself a man, it's just one of those things that come along with pre-op transition. Take my BF for example, I've heard people call him "Miss" more than once, which usually leads to a hurt look on his face for a second, but it's just the way things are right now....

The Lounge Should obesity be considered a disability? Feb 22 2009

Okay....

As someone who lives on disability, and has since I was 18 I wanted to say that it seems like people are coming off like we're all living with the government giving out big bucks.

It's not even enough to live on. I get 700$ a month, that is not even enough to pay rent on a decent place and keep the electricty on. Therefore I have to live with someone. They make it impossible to get off of it also, if I decided to try to work they would take away my money and healthcare the moment they knew. There is no time in between to see if it's possible.

So if a person was to try to go back to the work force, they lose all the disabilty right off the bat, so if it turns out they just can't work after all, they're set back to fighting tooth and nail to get the disability payments back.

I respect those who dont want to pay endlessly into the system for people who could work, but it's really not that simple. and to be fair I'm tired of people thinking I'm a leech because I get disability, because this is not a good way to live and if I could go off it and get a job I would, I'm certaintly not sitting here sipping wine and eating lobster using the system.

I did get down to 170 before a vacation last March, but once I got back I totally threw in the towel and went back to my old eating habits. I could kick myself!!

Anyway, I really need the motivation as my BF struggles with Anorexia so I don't ever mention my weight to him, That would be like lighting a fuse or something.

Someone posted this link on another website I frequent:

http://www2.canada.com/calgaryherald/news/sto ry.html?id=08254c46-5f30-4ba9-abce-777d987ea5 59

I can understand anyone wanting to get paid to have their babies become a story, after all I am sure John and Kate are faring very well now. I don't think the diapers sponsor is an unreasonable request either. BUT......to be wanting to be viewed as some kind of child rearing expert!

I had wondered why in the world a single mom of 6 would be taking fertility treatments. Now here is my answer:

Quote: and to start a career as a TV child-care expert.

But any ambition to be seen as a child-rearing authority looks remote after it emerged Suleman did not -- as was initially believed -- have fertility treatment because she was infertile, but rather because she simply loved having children. The six boys and two girls born last Monday are the second surviving octuplets in the U. S.

Quote: Her family has indicated she may have serious mental health problems. Her mother, Angela, said: " She is not evil, but she is obsessed with children. She loves children, she is very good with children, but obviously she overdid herself."

I read recently that she used a sperm donor also. So there is no father to help with these kids. According to the grandmother, her daughter has always been obsessed with having kids. IMO this woman is unstable beyond words...

it seems unfair that there are so many couples who can't have babies, but this nut case can pop them out like toaster strudel.

I hope that child welfare is involved here. She lives in a 3 bedroom house with her 6 other kids and her parents. It's just madness.

Well....lets see....

when I was a teenager I was obsessed with Luke Perry on 90210...so, I had him all over my wall...it was BAD...but back then I loved it. LOL

Then it was 80's movies, The Breakfast Club, Labyrinth, Pretty In Pink...all those posters...

Now, it's Twilight. I have a fabric wall scroll..I think 9 or so regular posters and full sized stand-ups of Edward and Bella...

I suppose I never grew out of it, but whatever....  :)

I could tell you this my parents would have blown their lid if they new what I read, but then again I always took books off my mom's bookshelves and read them. She never cared, they were books as long as I was reading and not sitting in front of the tv it was fine. I read this one book Forever by Judy Bloome, question if you know this author, Isnt she childrens books or was she considered young adult. Im asking cause that book I read when I was 12 and whoa it was pretty much filled with sex. Maybe it seemed extreme when I was 12 but id probably read it now and there is minor details about sex in it.

Oh god....I remember Forever....I think I actually still have my copy somewhere. it is totally sex-filled. I mean, the guy even has a name for his....um....man parts. LOL it's very explicit...too much so, lets just say I got most of my sex-ed start from reading that book....LOL

hmmm...I've seen the movie 3 times in the theatre and I have a copy on my computer that I watch every few days. So...I've seen it like....a few hundred times if I counted. :)

I just enjoy it as an add-on to the books since they left so much out. I mean what about Jasper's ability to affect moods? they never even mentioned it in the movie...

that said..nobody does that  'Smoldering-sexy-pissed-off' look like Robert Pattinson.   *sigh.....

I've not read Midnight Sun, as tempting as it is... I don't have any simpathy for her that the book was leaked tho. She GAVE a copy to someone, a friend of hers. so....what did she expect? granted, it was mean and totally wrong for them to leak it, but come on...it's not like it was stolen from her....

The Lounge Man + Vagina = Mangina Dec 31 2008

I suppose "Letting it get to me" was the wrong phrase. I simply meant, I'm NOT a lesbian, I don't now, nor have I ever considered myself to be one, so being called one or otherwise attacked for being with someone who is Transgendered is hard. Not because I see anything wrong with being a lesbian at all :) Eh..I hope that makes sense....

As far as surgical things, you're right, they DO make trans people "jump through hoops" before they can transition. I know my BF had to do that before they let him start taking Testostorone shots..But I can understand the need for that. it's not something to be done lightly...although I have no desire to be a man, so I don't quite understand. I only know what I've seen and been told from my BF...Quite honestly I know more about transgendered people than I ever thought I would. LOL

The Lounge Man + Vagina = Mangina Dec 31 2008

Okay....well...I'm about to give everyone a TMI moment into my personal life, I think....so...

My bf is Transgendered....was once a woman and now is a man. While he does still have a vagina simply because he doesn't think medical science is far enough along to create "man parts" the way they should be....

I've seen what he looks like as a woman, and while he was pretty, he looks better as a man IMO.

I think I got the best of both worlds.... :) I mean, he knows what it's like when I've got my TOTM and don't want to go anywhere or do anything but feel crappy with a heating pad. He knows what I want to hear in terms of romance and such because he remembers what HE wanted to hear back then....

So, while I've been called a lesbian more than once, I don't let it get to me. The fact that he is trans is just one more thing I love him for....but, thats just me.

I respect those who don't agree, I just wish they would keep that to themselves.

Okay...several points..

First and foremost, it's a BOOK! not a real life story, or even loosely based on one. It's written strictly from an entertainment standpoint and should be taken as such

Secondly...Bella very well DID entertain the idea of being with Jacob, she DID make the situation harder because she couldn't seem to not want him around. In that sense she is extremely selfish.

Thirdly...Edward IS controlling, but he does have a valid reason for being that way, even if he does take it to an extreme....

Fourth....you can't really judge Bella's true strength or charecter until the story is over and she comes into her own.

and Lastly...if you can't take the time to read the book, why take the time to say anything? it doesn't make sense to analize something without even the most basic idea

CoffinCritter...Really, I suggest you read the books. Simply because Bella's charecter is much more complex than I could explain the right way....She DID lead him on, and he DID kiss her when she didn't want him to...but it's not as tho he tried to rape her or something...

She fell into his arms after Edward left...simply put.

But I think you really need to read the books. it's unfair to pass judgement on something you've never read....honestly.

Did he stop kissing her when she said to then? I may not have read the books, but I'm perfectly aware of what is and isn't acceptable behavior.

"She led him on" belongs in the same cultural dumpster as "she was asking for it", "look how she was dressed" and "she got really drunk at the party".

lol..actually he didn't...she punched him and broke her hand....LOL

Still, I really feel it's unfair to pass judgement without reading the books....but thats my opinion...I mean, thats a bit like me saying I hate cream cheese when I've never actually eaten it....LOL

I loved the series, I think they are an excellent fantasy and I don't think that reading them is going to make anyone run out and be submissive to a man. I have to admit something in me has always wanted to be taken care of and protected by some strong handsome rich man... but hey reality is that is not the case and if they do these things for you 9 chances out of 10 they are crazy and controlling.

Now the real problem I have with it is wishing that hot Vampires were realWink

Well....this is just my opinion from reading the series like....13 times so far...

But once Edward leaves...she does sort of, dance around the idea of being with him, there are sections of the book that are internal dialog of hers where she debates it with herself. I feel like, she did want Jacob...she just wanted Edward more.....

actually she admits that, right, I think it was before the final fight with Victoria she kisses Jacob and then breaks down in the tent calling herself a horrible person because she knew she was hurting him by leading him on....she was in love with him, she just loved Edward more....

Well seeing how he was born in Chicago... an english accent doesn't make much sense now does it? ;)

I agree with the accent thing... my husband is british. :)

I, as well, am an addict. I finished the fourth book yesterday, and am content and pleased with the ending. I do not need a fifth book, even though I love the characters so much.

I thought the way she wrapped it up in a neat little package at the end was so incredibly fairy tale and fake that you HAVE to keep that in mind. This is a story, not real life. Men like Jacob and Edward to not exist, and if they do, they have many more faults than she let us see.

I am happy with the characters, loved the movie, and loved Bella most of all.

She's a girl, just like any of us, and she has her own faults (she falls in love with an over-protective vampire for one).

At the end of the novels she finds her own strength, and I think it's a great trait that Stephanie Meyer gave her. Bella is strong in her own way, and is also supported in others.

Being a feminist doesn't mean you have to be a ball-busting bitch. It means you can be independent, but also INTERDEPENDENT on your loved ones. They depend on your for things just as you do on them. That is how real relationships are and should be.

Unless you read the last novel where Bella comes into her own, you don't really have a full grasp on the series I think.

 AMEN!

I still want to read Midnight Sun, but thats mostly because I miss the charecters so much when the story ended...lol

Um, she gives credit to Wuthering Heights in the Twilight series more than once tho...Bella is constantly reading it and Edward is constantly asking her what she likes about it so much...they have more than one conversation about that book, actually....so, while I can see how it would bother you that she "stole" things from it, she DOES give credit for it...you just have to pay attention and you'll see it. She also gives credit to Romeo and Juliet more than once..I give her massive applause for not just taking things from others work without acknowleging (sp?) that she did....

I wouldn't say Jacob forces himself on her....Edward leaves Bella, walks out on her in an attempt to keep her safe from the things that come with being with him. She gets depressed and falls all over Jacob, who has had feelings for her from the start...She may have had emotional reasons for doing it, but she led him on, knowing how he felt about her...I mean, he TOLD her how he felt.

If she had any self respect or care for him as a person she would have kept a distance once she knew. He did kiss her a few times, but she is sort of her own worst enemy most of the time....
