Weight Loss what have you noticed during weight loss? Jan 31 2008

Some things that I've noticed with my weightloss:

First of all, I second the button down shirt thing! Other than that:

I can slide into my car comfortably (I'm short so I have to have the seat almost all the way forward) and have the steering wheel down low without it squishing my thighs.

I can wear a hair tie around my wrist without it cutting off my circulation.

I went down a shoe size (before my feet were fatter so I had to buy a bigger size)

I can bend down to tie my shoes without getting out of breath.

I can cross my legs for the first time in my life.

Hahaha another thing I noticed: when I first started going to the gym, when I would wash my hands in the bathroom with the automatic faucet, would reach and my stomach pushed over the counter would start the water running before my hands reached it...that no longer happens :-)

ooo feeding off from mollymouser, if you want to be creative with food/make pretty things, try fruit and veggie carving. You can make so many different things...fruit bouquets that look like flowers, etc...I would like to learn how to do that! Fun/decorative for parties too! :-)
Weight Loss Studying Abroad and Weight Loss. Jan 18 2008

Hi!

I recently went abroad to Korea for a summer program after starting my regime to lose weight last spring. Although the food there, in my opinion, is generally healthier than american food, there was still a lot of junk food, snacks, ice cream, bakeries, street food carts, candy and meals in general that of course you want to try since it is all new to you. Walking everywhere really does help a lot! I personally didn't worry too much about counting calories (but I also didn't know too much about calories anyways). Over the summer I didn't gain any of the twenty pounds that I lost before the trip.

My advice is to try all the different things that you want to try, because you never know when you will be back there again. Just keep everything in moderation, don't give up your lifestyle completely. When going out to eat, feel free to ask what are in certain dishes and choose some healthier options.  I do not know too much about Austria, but I hear they have a wide variety of great food. Experiment, but just regulate. Take a walk around/see some sites while you munch on a pastry. I would say try to estimate about the number of calories you consume, or just be aware of what you are consuming, but don't drive yourself crazy.

Also, when traveling to another country, true there is all sorts of good/new foods to try, but there are soooo many other things to do and see. You will keep yourself busy trying to study, go to class, and see all the sites. You'll make new friends, and want to go out to do fun stuff. Travel around. Do not make food the focus, but enjoy it when you sit down to eat.

Money most of the time is a big problem, especially with the exchange rate now. I did not do any cooking while abroad, I mostly went out to eat because in Korea meals can be really cheap, but I did buy apples/ healthy snacks to keep in my dorm room for studying/down time.

Do they have markets in Austria? Those are generally fun to go to, walk around, get nice fresh fruits/vegetables/etc.

I don't know if any of this helped, I tend to ramble and type as I come up with thoughts...

Have a great time! Studying abroad is what you make of it and can be such a wonderful experience!

Weight Loss Trying to lose a lot of weight and keep the "cheat day" Jan 18 2008

Maybe you can try not having an entire cheat day...try cutting it down to maybe one special treat meal and/or one treat dessert.

Lots of people do cheat days and do fine with losing weight, others don't like cheat days for many reasons. Its a personal choice with what makes you happy and keeps you motivated to lead a healthy lifestyl/lose weight.

I personally try to not have an assigned cheat day, but sometimes allow for special indulgences. I try to fit them into my restricted calories. Like if I know that I am going out to eat one night, I might eat lighter during the day. I just try to balance it out.

I agree with the others...another good one for starting out is crab... eel is really good too!...(yea it sounds gross, but it tastes really good!).

Rolls are generally good, sashimi is also good, low calories, it's just raw fish without rice/seaweed, I like the salmon, yellowtail, tuna. But if you like the rice you can always just order regular sushi which is a strip of raw fish (your choice) or shrimp over rice.

ummm...now i'm craving some...

I dress differently also. More fitted clothes. Now I actually enjoy trying on clothes more. Before I would never dream of wearing a dress.

Shoes! Before I had one pair of sneakers and one pair of dress shoes. Now I love high heels (good for the extra height that I need).

Other differences: posture and interaction with people (though i still need to work more on my social skills)

I am looking forward to going to the beach this summer! (I haven't for years)
