I hear great things about yoga.  Since you already do cardio and weights it might be a great way to round out your routine.  I work as a trainer and I have had many people tell me that yoga helps slim and lengthen their muscles.

Everyone has a six pack... but you have to get rid of the flab on top and the only way to do this is do cardio

How far do you need to get your shoulders off the floor... just do what you can and soon you will be getting up farther, also think about trying other exercises such as a plank, great for your core with out causing stress on the neck.  People often pull on their necks to do sit ups instead of using their abs.  Think of placing tennis ball in between of chin and chest and keep looking up at the ceiling.

You can also find a lot of gyms now that are geared towards people that are not in the greatest shape.  I work at a circuit gym that is coed and while you get an amazing workout you will not see any of the meat heads that are at other gyms, I always say it is becuase we dont have any mirrors on the walls for them to stare at themselves.Wink  There are other gyms to that are geared more toward the average american, rec centers are always a good place to start.

Congrats allyferr! I am back to day one. It was a bad weekend and I am stressing  right now because of work.  My sugar habits are out of control! I do so good and then I see a sweet and I have to have it. So... don't laugh, but I am trying a cleanse, I did it over the weekend and I feel like I can tell a difference, but then it could just be my mind telling me that and not the actual cleanse, oh well whatever works

well.... I binged all weekend, and the food was not even that good! So here we go again back to day one.  It is so much easier not to binge when I have to be at work all day!

I always wonder why it is so hard.  Why can some people go through life and not obsess about food while the rest of us do?

4 days... no binge

I was close last night. I had a TERRIBLE AWFUL day at work and just wanted to eat and drink, but instead I went to bed!Laughing

Nice job allyferr! I am right there with you, I just made it past day 3.

Avl don't think of it as a binge. how many cookies did you have? 5,10,100! Lets say you had 10 cookies, chocolate and a pudding, well that was not a binge. It was more of a unhealthy meal.  I do believe that beating ourselves up over it does not help. I know it sucks and you feel gross and  upset with yourself, try remembering how you feel after a binge and maybe that will stop you next time.  You said your therapist told you to think of scenarios where you are happy and binge free, maybe thinking of how bad you feel after one will help too. Just a suggestion, I wish you luck.

Contrats to everyone on their progress!

Avl relax, you said it was a light binge so it could have been a lot worse. I dont think that you are back to square one, I think you just made a wrong turn but you got right back on track.  If you beat yourself up it will make it worse.

I think I started to last night to. I was sooo hungry by the time that I got home and my b/f was picking up taco bell for dinner... I know not the best choice but all I had was a been burrito, but I knew that was not enough so I had some wasa crackers (2 for 60 cals) and then heated up green beans to go with the buritto, he laughed but it worked.  So to treat myself I had 3 oreos and ate very very slowly, so I count that as a win yesterday. 2 days down!

avl... Thank you so much for sharing what you learned in therapy! It makes sense.

Yesterday was day one with out binging! Woo Hoo! I think that I started to because I was so low on calories, but then I stopped because I just don't want to feel this way anymore.  I don't want my stomach to hurt because i am to full, I want to loose this weight that I have gained, I want to feel good about myself again!

Good Luck today everyone!

What I find amazing about all this is that we all seem to know how to eat healthy, we work out, and we have been in shape... so what happened, why cant we control it now?

I have been looking for a post like this and was going to make one myself.  I have recently come to terms with the fact the I have a problem with binging, so today is day one for me. I have a goal with how many calories I can have with and without exercise.  I know me and I need to see results to stick with it so this week will be low calories and then I will increase it.

good luck to everyone, one day at a time!

kimothyschma,

if you are eating over 2000 calories aday I would not worry about starvation mode, I think it happens more when you are only eating the bare minimum and exercising, but I could be wrong.  If your weight loss is slowing down try a different exercise

Weight Loss Have YOU healed your damaged metabolism? Feb 22 2008

Yes when you start eating more you are going to gain.  Your metabolism has slowed down to live off the 1000 calories that you feed it.  If you start eating more you body is going to go "holy s***! she is feeding us! Quick hold on to everything!"  Once you get past this and your body becomes used to being fed it, your metabolism will speed up.  I know it is hard to see the scale go up when you have been trying so hard to see it go down, but it has to happen.  I have a friend with this same problem, she just did a cleanse and is now eating more, and healthy, and has lost about 15 pounds in 3 weeks, but I don't know if this will last, and I dont know what cleanse she did.

Dont eat if you are not hungry.  I agree with bee_roach and in the future use healthy fats, try not to eat so many low calorie foods, you obviously dont need them.

I binged yesterday, did really well until i got off work, had fast food and then went home and ate cookies, and today I already ate 2700 calories by noon!  So no more today and I need to workout and then I will be good tomorrow.

I know when I have something sweet and then over eat for the rest of the day it's because I already feel like I messed it up so why not eat everything else that I want, but then I feel like crap.  Also don't use the thinking that I worked out I can be a little bad, try thinking that if I eat this I am going to have to be a the gym longer and work even harder!  I love working out but I don't want to be there all day so this can help me... sometimes.

For me what helps is getting out of the house.  I tend to over eat when I have the day off so I find things to do that will help.

I was home yesterday and overate by about 1000 calories so I had to go to the gym and work them off, I only burned about 700 though.

Good luck Dreamer with giving up sugar and welcome gennysaurus.  It sounds like you are in the same boat I am in.  I work at a gym and am constantly giving people advice on eating and working out and the working out is not a problem because I love to do it but I have and awful problem controlling my binge eating.  I have realized that I can't eat like I used to because my metabolism is slowing down.  I used to be able to binge and not gain weight or get it off easier but now I am having problems getting off the weight and seem to keep eating.  I did great all week but I just binged.  I have eaten about 3300 cals and I believe I have burned about 2000, so now I am headed to the gym to try to burn the other 1300, wish me luck! haha

To burn 600 calories at curves you might need to weight 600 pounds.  It is considered a light activity, there is just not enough resistance to challenge yourself.
