I log EVERYTHING including water, unsweet tea and black coffee because my logging is twofold.  I try to not only hit my caloric intake for the day but to have an A/B grade on the day.  That's the only way I know how to make sure that I am getting everything that I am supposed to have.

Sorry, have been gone for awhile and didn't realize that no one rants!  Okay - here you go.

Why is it that most all the movies that you like/want to see are on at really inopportune times???  I have been really lazy today because I've been watching James Bond movies since 7:30.

Why is it that the race and the baseball game are on at the same time.  You miss something good regardless of how you channel surf.

And my last but a goodie......why is it that the phone rings just as you get to the potty????  Thank goodness small fry has not learned to answer the house phone yet.  Those who call on my cell know that he will pick up given half a chance.

Weight Loss Coke Zero- Is this really bad? Aug 21 2009

Colas/Sodas have no nutritional value and have ingredients that can damage organs, teeth, etc.  Artifical sweeteners can have a rebound effect and actually make you crave sugar.  That being said, if you can balance your intake with sensible eating habits and water consumption then I don't see why you shouldn't enjoy one a day.  I don't think I would cut out water for Coke Zero (which I, too, love!) but if you can find common ground you should be fine.  I used to drink massive amounts of coffee when I was in college so that I could study and do what I need to.  Remember the dieting credo.....Everything in moderation.

Pregnancy & Parenting Lack of Pregnancy Symptoms? Feb 14 2009

I have a beatiful, very healthy 3 yr old boy who never gave me any trouble - until he came out!  I suddenly realized that I hadn't had a period and that my clothes were tight, that's how I figured out I was pregnant!  I did have heartburn starting about 3 months but that was because he had his feet shoved up my throat the whole time.  Relax and enjoy the wonderful sleep that you can get right now because you sure won't get it after the baby comes!  And I agree with the above.  Have an early ultrasound.  You can see and hear the baby now and put your mind at ease.

Got my new Boot Camp workout yesterday and my shoes today.  Did the workout, haven't tried the shoes.  Why is it that when I get a good rythym going I manage to run into the ceiling fan???  I am a short person, only 5', so I don't see how it's possible - but I did it!

On a positive note - working out with Bob is AWESOME!!!!  He explains all the moves and demonstrates them wonderfully.  They work out with weights but I won't start that part yet.  I do good to hold my balance with the creaky knees now as it is.  All the people on the DVD are from the Ranch - Michelle, Vicki, the girl who won (Yes, I have brain farts) and Heba.  AND THEY SWEAT!!!  Good to know.

Weight Loss Any bring-to-work lunch ideas I can make for my boyfriend? Jan 28 2009

Make him tuna salad with mustard, dill pickle chips and spices using the whole can of tuna.  Protein and Omega 3 packed and will be a filler.  Add in some celery and carrot sticks as snacks or some cottage cheese with fuit and he should feel full for the day.  All are fiber and protien heavy to make you feel full longer.  If he doesn't like tuna try salmon.  You can use light mayo but I prefer either spicy brown or horseradish mustard in mine.  I dice a dill pickle  and add whatever fresh veggies I may have to it and by the time lunch comes around the flavors will have melded and it should be yummy!  Depending on calorie count for the day add some cheese cubes in there, too, or mix shredded cheese in the tuna.  Tuna gets a bad score here because of the Omega fats but it's excellent for you.

Why is it that when you are expecting a package it NEVER comes????  I have ordered 2 TBL workouts - Boot Camp and Bob's Yoga for Weight Loss - along with some new shoes to work out in.  I am a little anxious over the shoes.....I have fat feet and have problems getting them to fit right, but I am working towards a goal and need something to work with.  My old shoes are literally coming apart on the bottom and I have no support.  My feet and ankles hurt worse when I wear them and work out than when I do it barefoot!

Why is it that while the 40 somethings huff and puff, turn red and stop breathing while trying out a new exercise DVD the 3 year olds just hop right in - no exercise clothes or shoes - and get right to work???  I tried a new pilates work out and while I have discovered that I need more of a warm up right now because my back is too tight I also discovered that small fry can just plop down next to me at any given time and pick those moves right up.  Disgusting!!!!  DH wants to tape it but I won't let him near me with the digital recorder AND won't tell him how to use it!

No one has ranted for a few so here goes......

Why is it that the beautiful snow outside my windows, stirring up my child, isn't sticking???  He wants to go and "skate" so bad.  Yes, he's a little confused.  I have told him that you skate on ice and play in snow but.....we're in the South, what do you expect???  And here are today's thoughts......

While sitting here at my desk gazing out at the softly blowing snow (yes, it's snowing at my house right now) I am struck with these thoughts......   1) What if Ron gets snowed in in Huntsville and I am stuck here BY MYSELF with Jonathon????   2) I wonder how long it will take the wet pull up to freeze.....   3) I wonder just how many layers I can put on him to go and play without making him look like the Michlin Man......   4) I wonder just how many layers will end up wet because the frozen pull up won't hold any more and he won't stop to pee.   5) I wonder if I can stuff the kittens down his pants when they freeze to him in order to get him out of them......

Why is it that packaged meals look SSOOOOO good in their boxes but not so hot once you take them out of the microwave???  I am having NutriSystem Pasta Primevara with Tofu for lunch and it's so pretty on the box......Not so in the container.  It tastes okay, just not pretty.  I don't think that plating it would help it much, either.  The tofu, carrots and edamame give it such a dingy color and I am reasonably sure that the pasta is whole grain.  Oh well, it makes me want to hurry up and finish it so I don't have to look at it any more!

No rants today - so far, so good.  He even ate lunch (because he had no breakast!).  We are so VERY 3.

Looking for something that we can do with small fry tomorrow.  It's his birthday and he is getting old enough to know that.  Want to take him to breakfast - just us two - and then a park or something.  There's a really nice one near here that's got hiking trails.  May try to take him there.  I am looking at Little River State Park for a day excursion with the 3 of us but probably can't do that this weekend.  They are talking about rain again.  ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!  I am molding!!!

Any suggestions on things to do with a 3 yr old are greatly appreciated.

Today's rant.....

WHY do children's toys hurt so much when applied to parts of the adult body????  Small fry got a Black & Decker workbench, complete with plastic tools, from Santa and when he hit me in the head with the hammer (which is NOW IN MY POSSESSION) it hurt so bad I saw stars!  I promptly hit him back with it and then took it away......

PS - he laughed when hit in the head with it.......

Today's rant......

Why is it that such a beautiful sleeping child can be such a monster when he's awake???  I took the trash out which was a few minute process and came back into the house to a flooded kitchen floor; soaked refrigerator, countertops (yes, plural), ceiling and child; and a cat sitting close to his food bowl yeowling because his fresh food was now swimming......I have mopped, cussed, spanked, cussed, punished, cussed, looked at the ceiling, cussed.....You get the picture.  I was so mad that after I swatted his bottom and legs I made him sit on a big pillow in front of the TV and NOT MOVE.  The not moving is really the torture, trust me.  He's not even still when he sleeps.  I am really hoping that we don't have to paint the ceiling because this house has the tiny little sparkles in the ceiling and once we start we will have to do all the rooms.  I am afraid that the center island cabinets (where the sink and faucets are) are pretty much history.  They were already damaged because there was a water leak and I think that this may finish them on off.  I really wanted a new dishwasher and disposal before cabinets.  I will have to watch the floor, too.  This all came about because daddy had to replace the faucet yesterday and let him test the new sprayer.  He took his stool into the kitchen, turned on the water and let loose with the sprayer.

Not really ranting today much - except that the younger the child, the more obnoxious the noise is that the new toys make.  We have a great room/family room covered in toys.  I don't know who had more fun, my husband or my child.  He still hasn't played with everything!  I think that daddy went a little overboard!  My mom got him a V-Tech laptop computer so he types when I do.  It's supposed to teach him shapes and sizes, letters and numbers.....he's doing fairly well on his own.  When he gets frustrated he brings it to one of us and we help him for a little while.  When he gets really frustrated he just turns the volume up and down - it's a monkey squeaking.  At least it plays a nice little tune!

Hope that everyone had a happy one!

Rant of the day....... Why is it that someone so small can make such humongous messes????  My almost 3 year old has 1) painted my desk with fingernail polish; 2) painted my mouse, desk and keyboard with lip gloss (yes, the shade did match the fingernail polish); 3) mascaraed the desk, chair, himself, the carpet, the walls, the stairs (did I mention that his face was black???); 4) stuffed stolen jelly beans in so quickly that he choked and barfed on the floor; and 5) I just discovered one of my cats shut up in the guest bathroom upstairs.  Don't know how long she had been there but there is pee and poop EVERYWHERE!!!  Did I mention that I have company coming in tomorrow?????  All these are since Saturday, too.  I just don't understand it......

Your weather should not be a factor with your greens.  Mine are thriving on the rain/snow mixes we are having and are to have.  My broccoli, on the other hand, is just sitting there.  Am not too sure that I will have any.  BTW, you do know that you can freeze both the turnips and all the greens, don't you?  Blanch the greens and squeeze the excess water out (they end up looking like little balls) and place in freezer baggies.  Been doing it in this neck of the woods for years!

Why is it that those south of me - literally the Gulf Coast - are getting up to 8" of snow while we here, who are about to have hissy fits over it, can't seem to get any that stays????   HUMMMMM????  My child saw snow for the first time last week but wasn't allowed to go out and play in it.  Obviously was not with me because I would have been there with him.  He's asked about it almost every day and when he sees it on the news he wants to go there to play.  All week, up until after lunch today, they have been predicting snow for us with 2 - 3" accumulation and all of a sudden the storm front is falling apart as it gets to my area and we just have rain, rain and more rain.   YellCry.  We want to play and to me snow IS Christmas.

You know, I really am beginning to dislike the cold.  Went to help the neighbor pick up pecans Sunday afternoon and ended up on my hands and knees on the cold wet ground.  Guess what????  I have a cold - AGAIN!  Couldn't let her do it, though.  She's in her late 70's or early 80's and has a brain tumor.  Talk about the guilt I would have felt if I had left her to her own devises!

Teeth still aren't thru the gums yet and now, along with the runny/stuffy nose we have the teething diarrhea.  Back in the diapers yet again because he has no control over it.  At this rate I will have been in Depends for YEARS before he's out of diapers!  At least he has gone back to sleeping - sort of - in his own room.  He is going back and forth between the baby bed (which is iron and 100 years old so it's more like a twin bed for midgets) and his "big boy bed" which was my dad's double bed when he was growing up.  Hope he makes up his mind soon as we are having company and don't know if I need to get the blow up mattress out or not!

Okay, better today but tell me WHY I am supposed to get dressed and go upstairs and walk on the *%$# treadmill when it's cold and wet outside?  HUH?????  Oh, yeah.  We are cutting teeth (3 yr molars) so no one got any sleep last night much.  Every time he went to sleep his head stopped up and he got up crying because he couldn't breathe.  Gave up around midnight and sat in my recliner while he laid propped on pillows watching cartoons and cat napping.  Seems that every time I would doze off he needed his nose blown or the channel changed.  NOT in the mood to exercise today!

On a more positive note I decided this morning that I would eat what I wanted today as long as I stayed in my calorie range.  Had cheese toast on white bread for breakfast, along with flavored coffee with splenda AND half n' half.  Was going to eat the rest of small fry's vienna sausage for lunch, even had it logged, when I opened the refrigerator and saw a Slim Fast shake.  Made the healthier choice without even a flinch.  Maybe I am turning a corner.

**SIGH**  Off to the treadmill and exercise time.

Okay, here's the Wednesday night/Thursday morning rant.  Why is it that I can do so well at portion control and food choices on HUGE days like Thanksgiving and then turn around and shoot myself in the foot???  I sneak weighed Monday morning and was pleased that I had only gained a pound and that included Shoney's breakfast bar on Sunday morning.  Then I had Ruby Tuesday's soup and salad and DID NOT make the healthy choices.  I don't care if I did add baby spinach leaves to the salad that doesn't make the bleu cheese dressing a healthy option.  Broccoli and cheese soup didn't make it, either.  That was bad enough but then yesterday I had MCDONALD'S and no, it wasn't chicken.  So this morning for my official weigh in I had a 2 lb gain.  Still feel crummy and don't want to exercise and this afternoon indulged greatly in comfort food (won't even tell you what all I ate but suffice it to say it was probably enough calories for the rest of the week) because I was feeling puny and down on myself for the gain.  Yell

I ran to the grocery store and post office to see who was looking for me and get small fry some food.  We are doing the big shopping tomorrow with daddy.  I am lucky in that the kittens eat one kind of food, the parents eat another, and my big boy who is glued to my side eats a third.  I usually don't run out all at one time and can swap out a meal or two.  We are supposed to be in the 50's today but it's 2 and about 48 so I don't see it happening.  At least it's not supposed to be as cold tonight!

Yeah, that's why I love Molly so.....I have 7 myself at the moment - 3 adult and 4 7 weeks old.  And yes, they are all colors of the rainbow.  It doesn't matter what I wear, I look like the cottage cheese factory rolled in a fur patch.  Wouldn't have it any other way, though.  I have had a pet of some sort since I was 5 and I will until the day I die (if I have my way).

Now for my second rant of the day.....The Cook's Pest Control man came to inspect the house and tell me how much it would be to carry over the contract from the previous owners.  While chatting with him small fry slipped away, presumably to take himself to the potty.  I taught him to pull his pants up and down the other day.  Didn't come back.  When we got quiet I heard this small voice saying "help mommy!".  Found him, sans pants, on my marble bathroom counter where he had liberally sprayed himself with my perfume to mask the odor of pee and poop - which was also on the counter.  He was slippery and could not climb down the same way he got up.  I wanted to beat him senseless and laugh all at the same time!  Thank GOD for marble counters and tile floors!

I'm telling you - there is a conspiracy out there.  They don't make spandex and panty hose for any one under 6 feet and over 120 lbs.  And speaking of spandex......I was SSSOOOOO excited that leggings are back.  I loved them the first time around.  I got a pair and they are much thicker than what I used to have.  Have been running around my house cleaning and doing "stuff" in them.  Got a glimpse of my backside in them and OMG I look like cottage cheese is manufactured on my butt!!!!!!  Didn't even bother to check out the thunder thighs.  These are Danskin workout leggings, supposed to be nicer and more "enveloping".  Guess that I don't need an envelope, I need a brown paper wrapper!

I need to lose over half of me......Sad but true.  I don't remember ever being a "normal" weight although there are pics of me as a small child where I look okay.  I have been stuggling with the same 10 lbs for several months now but seem to be back on a downward trend.  I am doing it by counting calories along with healthier food choices and portion control.  It's a constant battle for me.  All encouragement and advise welcome.  I have been fortunate enough that my changes that I have made so far have enabled me to come off bp and cholesterol meds but I still have close monitoring to do.

I LOVE the Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereals, both flavors.  One has 190 cal per cup and the other 200.  Both real high in fiber, grains and proteins.  VERY filling.  One cup and a cup of milk is roughly 300 cal breakfast and I am set until lunch with just that.  Both naturally sweet and I don't add any sweeteners at all.

See if you can find a container of Butter Buds to keep in your purse or to take with you when eating out.  You can also ask for low fat sour cream - some places have it, some don't.  If you use the butter buds instead of butter you will not get rid of the dryness but will get the butter flavor and it's 10 or so calories for a teaspoon (I think).  I was addicted to them but haven't had potatoes in a while so don't remember cc off the top of my head any more.  It's also really good on steamed veggies.  You can request that they not put butter or put it on the side and then sprinkle away.

Foods Turkey cutlets? Nov 18 2008

I actually cook mine like I would pork chops frequently.  They need to be covered because they will dry out and you need to season a little more than you would chicken.  I usually marinate them in something - anything you would use on any other meat - and then put what ever other seasonings I want on when I put them in the pan.  I cover tightly with foil and bake.  You can grill as well but they tend to get a little dry.
