| Weight Loss | How long on diet? Are you successful? | Aug 19 2009 15:13 (UTC) |

I'd been struggling with dieting for 2 years, getting up to 182 around April of '08, but finally put my foot down in April '09 and have gone from 171 to 147 since then. So 35 pounds since April '08, 24 pounds since April '09 - when I really took dieting and excersizing seriously and used calorie count religiously. Now that I've formed good habits, I've stopped counting and I'm still losing because my eating has become pretty routine and I'm better at honestly estimating my calorie intake (still measuring things like soy sauce and salad dressing though!). My goal is 130, so I have just 17 pounds to go! (I'm 5'4) |

| The Lounge | Traveling to Paris/London for 2 weeks. Any health-related advice? | Jul 24 2009 10:38 (UTC) |

andie - now that I'm about to travel to England (I leave Monday...I'm sad to leave Paris, but I'm excited for London) I would love to hear what you can't bring on board the plane. I'm only bringing a large purse and no extra carry-on, so I should only have my camera, wallet, passport, a pen, a small notebook, a book, and a few papers in my bag. I figured I'd buy water after the security check-in? These things would be fine in the US. |

gi jane - I am VERY much looking forward to English Indian food. I love Indian and I hear that no one does it better (outside of India) than the English. Also thanks for all the suggestions everyone! Very awesome. If people have more, keep them coming, if not that's cool too. The London Eye sounds great - I can't wait to bring my camera.
Speaking of my camera, anyone know anywhere cheap to buy a European plug adapter thinger? I have rechargeable batteries that I'd like to bring so I don't have to blow a fortune on batteries. |

Original Post by trustwomen: Heh, I'll be good on vacation - I have a boyfriend waiting for me in Boston (but perhaps I'll pass on that condom advice to the single friend I'm traveling with). Also, I grew up always having very, very strong associations between colors and certain letters, words, or songs. Like lowercase "e"s were ALWAYS and WITHOUT A DOUBT blue while uppercase "E"s are without a doubt red. "Fool on the Hill" by the Beatles is indigo, that sort of thing. No idea if I'm a true syneasthete or if it's just the artist in me, but I was very relieved when I heard of synaesthesia because at the very least it made me feel like less of a psycho. So I guess all I can say is "Who knows?" |

My BMI is 27.5 and I'm a 5'4, 160 pound 24 year old female. However, whenever I do an online calculator of body fat percentage based on my measurements, I'm always well within the healthy range. I'm still not sure which test is more accurate (considering that BMI doesn't take muscle weight into account and my legs/arms are very muscular). Still trying to get down to 135. |

A few weeks ago, I bought a small set of 5 pound hand weights and thought they were a little heavy as I carried them home from the store (about 2 miles). Then I realized I'd been carrying more than that much weight on my body only a few months ago. It was a pretty weird realization for me. |

| Weight Loss | What is your pant size? | May 15 2009 04:50 (UTC) |

I have a pretty big butt (I think). Luckily, when I lose weight, it's typically the first thing to go. I'm 5'4, currently 164 pounds and my size 12s are a little loose right now (very loose at the waist, a little loose in the butt) and my size 10s are still a little tight everywhere to be comfortable. My size hasn't differed all too much since I've gained all my weight - when I was 135, I was a size 8. I looked like a skeleton in high school (at 115 the guidance counselor stopped me in the hall and wanted to have a "serious talk" about my weight) and wore a size 5 at my smallest. |

| Motivation | Anyone who is frustrated about the new Calorie Count daily intake recommendations? | May 15 2009 04:38 (UTC) |

It changed mine by 400 calories. I actually followed it today because I'd made some adjustments to my settings before I knew that they had updated things. So I assumed that the 1275 calories it told me to eat were due to that change. I tried my best to follow it, but by 4pm, I was light-headed and nauseous. I spent the rest of my calories and then came onto the forums and realized that the number was off around 7pm. I redid my calories with the new adjustment when they fixed the meter and my eat meter went up to 1555 calories. So after 2 weeks of strict calorie counting, I treated myself to a dark chocolate candy bar to get the extra calories in =) It was a pretty awesome end to a kind of annoying day. |

It's broken? Thank god! I readjusted my settings today for a small thing and was incredibly surprised when it told me that I needed to eat only 1275 calories. I thought "hey, maybe now that I'm at a lower weight, that makes sense." I tried it, eating mostly protein to keep myself from getting too hungry and I've been feeling lightheaded all day. It was weird that it went from 1618 to 1275 just because I'd lost 7 pounds. I'm going to go eat another small meal so I don't wake up starving tomorrow! |

| Recipes | Using Slim Fast for baking? | May 14 2009 04:38 (UTC) |

I ended up making this recipe with a few changes: On the stovetop on medium heat, combine: 1 c. sugar (I used 3/4 cup)1/2 stick butter (I used 3 tbsp) 1/4 c. milk (1% milk) 2 tbsp. cocoa (I used 2 tbsp Optima Chocolate Royal, 1 tbsp cocoa powder) Bring to boil 1 minute. Take off heat. Add: 1/4 c. peanut butter1/2 tsp. vanilla 1 1/2 c. oats (I used 1 3/4) Let rest for about a minute. On wax paper, spoon about 1 tbsp of batter onto wax paper. Once you're able to pick them up without them entirely falling apart, they're ready to be eaten or placed in the fridge (The fridge definitely helps with how flimsy they can be, especially if it's a warm summer night). I've made these before without substitutions and I tested this version out on a friend of mine who loves these cookies. She ended up liking tonight's version better (really, the original recipe has way too much sugar/butter for her). I also really enjoyed these and I might keep playing with them to see how healthy I can get them (maybe a different sweetener). |

| Health & Support | Seasonal changes and loss of appetite. Possibly SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) related? | Apr 07 2008 21:46 (UTC) |

Right, not saying that I'm depressed. I do get pretty sluggish in the fall and winter and tend to overeat then. I'm actually very happy in the warmer months and I have tendency to not eat when I'm happy. I'm not sure if that makes sense (or is the safest or healthiest thing). It probably also has something to do with the fact that when I have more energy, I tend to pack my day with more activities and don't even notice that I'm not eating - I think this accounts for the severe weight loss I usually experience in the Spring and Summer months. I was mostly just curious to see if anyone else experienced this kind of weight loss in the Spring. |

Also, to clarify, I had weighed myself with the new scale in the afternoon two days ago and was 171 and then weighed myself on the same scale the next morning and was 163. Both times I weighed myself without clothes. I'm actually searching the internet and am now slightly worried about the possibility of a parasite. I mean, 8 pounds DOES seem like a lot to lose overnight. |

To be fair, it wasn't only my gym scale that said I weighed more - for instance, I had a doctors appointment about 3 weeks ago where they weighed me in a gown and I came up at 178.5. Also, I've weighed myself very consistently at 2 separate gyms with two separate scales - both of which said I was the same weight within the same week. So I really do think I've managed to lose a crazy amount overnight, which was strange but welcome. |

was looking for weight loss tools, because i'm too lazy to keep track of everything on my own =)
i'm currently looking for friends to add since i find reading the journals of others to be a motivational and habitual tool (i'm also a livejournal addict). i figure that if i become invested in learning about the lives of others on this site, i'll be more likely to stick around. |
