Weight Loss There is such a thing as too much water Jan 20 2008

I had a friend that got Water poisoning, at least that is what he called it.  What actually happened was  he drank so much water that he depleted himself of the vital vitamin, minerals, and electorlytes to the point that his cells were not functioning properly.  I forget how much he was drinking, but it was a HUGE amount.

I usually drink about 80 - 90oz a day.  I need to stay very hydrated otherwise I get headaches and constipation.  I think everyone one is different the reccomended guidelines put out by the medical establishment are just that guidelines, which are based off averages.  Everyone needs to decided how much or how little is right for themselves.

Vegetarian Vegetarian Sandwich Ideas Jan 20 2008

I love a Dagwood style sandwich.  For those that don't know, it is a sandwich that has everything and the kitchen sink!  It is a lot of fun to go through the produce isle and pick out ingredients and get some good whole grain bread.  I go home, pile it high and then smash it down! Some of the best things I have included on a sandwich are: raw Zucchini, sunflower seeds, green onions (sliced on a bias), roasted peppers, tons of sprouts, sliced mushrooms, and t5he list goes on.  Really anything that you would put in a salad can go on a sandwich.

One of my favorite though is a Caprese sandwich.  Get soime good crusty bread, Fresh Mozerella, basil leaves, ripe tomatoes, drizzel with Extra Virgin Olive Oil and sprinkle with kosher or sea salt.  Man that is GOOD!

Another really good one is a Potato Tortilla sandwich.  Slice some left over Potato tortilla (this is a potato and egg mixture which is baked, kind of like a quiche, but with out the crust) and put between slices of some good crusty chewy bread that has been rubbed with raw garlic (take a clove of garlic trim the end and then rub on the bread), rubbed with a roma tomato, drizzled with Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and sprinkled with coarse kosher or seas salt.  Simply delish!

Weight Loss Women... Would you stay with a guy if he wanted you to lose weight? Jan 19 2008

I agree with all of those that said you 2 need counseling. If you let this go one too long, then you will be where I am, getting divorced. By the end of our marriage my exwife and I were very good about making each other feel bad.

Weight: Guys are caught in a catch 22. Women bring up the issue about weight and then get upset and think we don't love them unconditionally when we answer honestly. Would you rather us lie to you? or do you want to be in an open and honest relationship? I can tell you that most men will not love you any less if you gain some extra weight. There is more to love than just physical appearance. But who doesn't want their mate to be fit and good looking?

Getting Older: This is just his immaturity. He doesn't want to face himself aging. He does need to work on this narcistic view.

Stretch Marks: Everyone has them and if they don't they will get them somewhere at some time. If he doesn't see the beauty in them (that they were made from you bringing his child into the world) then he agin needs to grow up.

As he gets older his attitudes will change if he is willing to change. The way I thought in my 20's is completely different from the way I thought in my 30's.

Stretching excercises are good.  Try doing some Yoga.  Not the twist yourself into a pretzle kind of yoga, but some more passive poses.  Some good poses are Childs Pose, Cat pose, Cow Pose, Corpse Pose, and others.  Also when you do start running again besure to keep up the stretching and or Yoga.  I can not believe how much better I feel since I started doing Yoga.

I have thrown my back out a couple of different times.  Each time I was picking up something small (an empty bucket once and a paper on the floor) but when I looked back it was after carrying or lifting something heavy.  Your pain could be caused by so much running, if your body was not use to it.  The constant pounding can be hard on your body. I am not a doctor or saying you should not run in the future, but when you do start again make sure you have good quality shoes and buy new ones every 3-5 months.  This is advice from a friend of mine who runs marathons. It seems excessive to change shoes so often, but I would rather pay $100.00 every 4 months and stay out of the doctors office, then to not and be laid up.

Vegetarian Veg*n Gripe!! Jan 19 2008

I think that the majority of people just blindly follow the crowd.  They do not realize the power of marketing and advertising, the power of a news media that is run by the very same advertisers, and the power of the FDA which is run by the medical companies.  Why else would a person go to McDonalds Order a extra large "Value" meal and a "Diet" Coke on thier way to see their doctor about a " weight issue" and discuss getting the latest surgery to staple, band, or remove part of thier stomach.

Then they say to you that your Vegan or Veg diet is not healthy? Just doesn't make sense.

Vegetarian Kale? Jan 19 2008

I love Kale!!  It needs to be cooked a little longer than other greens, but it adds a nice flavor and "meaty" texture to dishes.  When I cook it I usually add it just after the onions are sauted, when I would add other harder vegetables like turnips or carrots.

As far as recipes, use it in addition too or as a substitute for other leafy greens or cabbage.

I am trying to be more vegetarian for health reasons.  I have high Cholesterol.  I saying trying becuase I do not always have time to make my lunch so I eat out.  Unless I want to eat salad everytime, there just aren't many Veg choices in the Midwest town I live in.

Have you tried Papaya tablets?  You can get them at healthfood stores or GNC.  They are chewable and taste really good.  The enzymes help break down the food faster and also knock out gas.  If after trying this you still have a lot of problems then I agree that you should probably be tested.

By the way Papaya is GREAT for the hick-ups.  If they start just eat a few tablets and then the hick-ups are gone.

Thanks Nasuoni.  I guess I have to get over that old thiunking that all fat is bad.  (Probably dating myself by that statement Laughing) I love nuts, so adding a handful here and there shouldn't be a problem.

Try mixing up your work out routine more.  I am no expert, but doing the same thing everyday will make you more prone to injury and boredom.

Throw in an arobics DVD a couple of times a week or some other arobic activity to get the cardio up.  There are some fun ones out on the market.  I have been using some different videos from a "beach" company that I really like.  They are upbeat and fun, except the karate parts which over stress my joints, so I just do high step marching or something similar.

I also do some simple Yoga.  No standing on my head or twisting into a pretzel, just a Sun Salutation.  I do it at least 4 times if I go slow (4-5 breathes per posture) or more if I do it quicker (1-2 breathes per posture). Doing it faster really gets my blood pumping.  It is also very relaxing.

Hope some of this helps.

Keep up the good fight!!

Motivation HELP! All I want to do at night is eat... Jan 10 2008

I am in the same boat.  Last night I ate a whole package of deli meat, even though I know I was not hungry.  I know I am an emotional eater, especially at night.  I eat to fill up a space that seems to be missing inside, but when I am done the empty feeling is still there.  I am spiritual and was listening to a Christian talk show yesterday about dieting and one of the guests had a saying that helped her which I am going to try the next time the cravings come (tonight probably Laughing ) It was "God is the only food I need, only He can satisfy my hunger"  Of course this quote does not mean that I never need to eat, but at those times when I can feel I am not hungry and really want to eat, I can say this as a reminder to rely on God and turn over my troubles to Him.
