klonopin for RLS?  have you tried any of the other medications that are more targeted like requip or mirapex...they probably would be less sedating and less addictive than klonopin.

My dr. wouldn't put me on requip when I asked her about it because she said it hadn't been on the market long enough for her to be comfortable prescribing it.  Besides, it wasn't covered by my insurance at the time.  I'll have to check my coverage again and see if requip or mirapex is covered now.  Thanks for the reminder, since my klonopin has started to not work as well.

Margie,

I support what busybee said 100%.  I had a total hip replacement done about 6 months ago because I was bone-on-bone from osteoarthritis.  I wasn't overweight and the pain was still unbearable at times; I can't imagine what you're going through.

Please know I'm here to support you, and you can PM me anytime as well.

Hugs and blessings to you,

sharp,

This was definitely a disturbing story to read.  I was going to say that the only justice in this situation is that the man was shot to death himself, but that's the human side of me.

The other side of me says, based on the info in the article, is that there was a hollowness in his eyes, which tells me he wasn't truly "there" when he was doing this.  Something within him triggered this behavior.  Perhaps he abused this child at other times too, but IMHO something in him snapped to make him do this.

I rest in the comfort of knowing that God dealt with him according to His justice, not ours.

Claire,

You've admitted you have a problem; as was said that's the first step, a big brave one!

I support what malkavian said, and in addition see if you can find some type of AA meetings to attend.  With having an alcoholic mum and an ED you need the support of others that are going thru/have been thru the same things you have.

My brother was a recovering alcoholic when he passed on about 8 years ago, and he was a completely different man when he died.  He was the man we all knew he could become, and we were finally close.  It was so wonderful to feel the genuine love he felt for me the last time I saw him.

So, dear Claire, take these first steps with loved ones by your side and little by little you will learn to take one day at a time and love yourself again.

Hugs and blessings to you.

Thanks for the hints, folks, I'll try them!  I also heard over the weekend from another friend who has it that magnesium supplements have helped her.  She's over 60 so I don't know if age has anything to do with it (some stuff seems to be recommended for folks over 50), but I may try it since it's not a prescription.

As for other issues I also have an underactive thyroid (rx is taking care of that), allergies (an over-the-counter rx is helping that), and PMDD (pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder), which is a severe form of PMS that is more emotional than physical.  The PMDD and RLS get worse a day or 2 before TTOM, then settles down again after I "start".  I take 20 mg of prozac for the PMDD which has helped immensely but I'm wondering if it's worsening the RLS?

Oh, I also heard that experiencing a "climax" with your partner can also relieve RLS symptoms.  It's worked for me sometimes, so there's a hint from me Wink!

No I'm not taking any rx's for cholesterol but do take prozac for PMDD (extreme PMS), don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Hey all,

I've put my weight loss efforts on hold for a while until I heal from having my wisdom teeth out last Friday.

The swelling had made the scale show numbers that normally would have made me tremble but I kept it in perspective.  It's basically gone now but I still have pain and tenderness in my mouth, and I can't open it very far to eat much.  So, I think I'm losing some weight (my rings are getting looser) but my activity level is not what it should be, nor is my food intake.  I'm just trying to get through this initial phase, then once I feel better I'll go back to exercising & watching calories again.  I'm hoping that will be soon Frown!

OK enough whining; everyone else, keep it going!

Thanks for the ideas everyone!  We ended up eating at home (and I stayed within my limit) but now I have some ideas for later!

Especially the info on Applebee's!  I have a big problem with retaining sodium and WW doesn't have you watch that, just fat & calories I think (don't quote me on that, I've never been a member).

The biggest thing I need to remember is portion control, so the idea of asking for a takeout box right away is a good one.

Thanks again, all!  Hugs & blessings!

Fitness Strength training/Cardio Jun 03 2008

You can also do circuit training, where you alternate a few minutes of cardio with a few minutes of weights.

My favorite circuit workout is from Prevention.com.  It's called the 3-2-1 workout and you go thru 5 six-minute circuits: 3 min of cardio, 2 min of weights, 1 min of abs for a total of 30 minutes.  Include a 5-min warm-up & 5-min cooldown and you have 40 minutes in :)

It's great because the cardio keeps your heart rate up even when you're doing the weights & abs.  I lost not only weight but significant inches when I did this workout for about 3 months.  Then I changed to something else (though it escapes me at the moment).

Hope this helps as well; best of luck!

My excuses for overeating/not exercising/etc:

1. It's TTOM (you know what that means, ladies)

2. It's the weekend

3. I've already blown it so what the heck

4. We're having a dinner party

5. I just don't really care right now (usually goes along with #1)

6. We're eating out

7. I'm tired

OK how many of these have you used?  Be honest!  There are tons of excuses out there, and I've used at least 2 of mine in the last week.  But today I'm trying to do better.

I'm not logging it as exercise, but I did some grocery shopping today and I know that burns some calories.  And I've done some vacuuming today so that counts too.

Well gotta get started on dinner; TTYL!

Hugs & blessings all!

Me, me, me!!!  I'm over 40 and struggling to lose about 10 pounds.  I did really well last year and was down to 133 but due to a bad hip (which has since been replaced) I climbed back up to the 140's.

Current stats:

Age: 42, will be 43 on Aug. 24

Height: 5'3.5", medium frame

Starting weight: 144.4

Current weight: 146 (I'm waiting for TTOM so I'm bloated)

Goal weight: 135

non-weight goal: exercise at least 30 min/day at least 5 days/week

Glad to be on the team!  Hugs & blessings to all!

Well I decided to walk the neighbors' dogs instead of doing my DVD, so I didn't burn as many calories. Oh well, maybe I'll get up the gumption later Smile

OK, off to eat some breakfast and plan the rest of my day. Thanks everyone for your encouragement & suggestions!

Thanks, tyrdrop.  I know most of it is water weight, I'm just kinda bummed that I'll have to report a gain instead of a loss.  Oh well!  Tongue out

What do you think about my idea of drinking extra water?  I don't drink enough anyway (lots of coffee in the a.m. then usually milk & diet soda the rest of the day).

I need to get off my duff and do my DVD too!  Logging the calories I burn from that will help keep me motivated too!

Have a blessed day!

If you already have the dress you're wearing, hang it where you can see it several times/day.  If not, hang a picture of it on the fridge, on your bathroom mirror, wherever you need to, to remind yourself of your goal.

Personally I've tried to stop the "I'm going to lose "x" pounds by "x" date" stuff and just eat as healthy as I can and exercise/be active as much as I can.  That way it's just part of my life rather than a contest with/against myself.

But some people benefit from doing what you're doing; I'd suggest seeking out a buddy (at home or here on CC) that can help keep you on the right track.

Best of luck!

Whatever feels best to you, popochi.  Once I get to my goal weight I plan to keep my range +/- 5 lbs, just because I know on the weekends I'll overdo it a bit and I gain during "that time".  If it starts going above that 5th pound I know I'd better start looking at what I'm eating again, and my activity level.

For me it's harder during the summer when the kids are home from school, and the family wants to go out for ice cream after dinner...aaagh!

Listen to your body, and go more by how your clothes fit than what the number on the scale is.  Stay active, and keep track of your calories for about 3 weeks after you've hit your goal weight (you said "a while ago" but I don't know how long that is in real time :) ).  You should be able to maintain at a higher calorie level if you keep the same level of activity.

Good luck!

I gain about 5 pounds during "that time" and choose not to weigh myself because, in my opinion, it's a false weight gain that just gets me down even though I know it'll come back off.

I also don't weigh when I've "overdone" it in the eating department, usually over the weekend, because I know once I return to my normal eating & activities it'll come back off again.

Think about it.  You've overeaten all weekend, and the scale says you've gained 4 pounds.  That means that over 2-3 days, you've supposedly taken in an extra 7000-10500 calories in that time period.  That's just not possible, unless you ate 24 hours a day all weekend long!

Do whatever works best for you, I used to obsess over it but found it very counterproductive.  Good luck!

Good morning folks, can I join in again?  I used to post but then I left CC, gained weight, had hip replacement surgery, got up to 145 and am back on the bandwagon now that it's OK to exercise again.  I'm now 142.2 and heading for 138, ultimately 135.

I also joined a fitness challenge with my hubby through his work's gym, trying to lose 6 lbs in 6 weeks (I started at 144, thus the 138 mini goal). Hubby is supportive here at home but I would also like some online support too :)

So, I hope I'm welcome.  I'm ready, willing & able to give encouragement, and get below 140!

Have a great day everyone.  srogers75, hope you're feeling better today!

Spirochete, no it would not have been OK, no matter if I'm Christian, atheist, Jewish, whatever.  If he saw my profile he would have seen that I'm married with 2 children.  That needs to be respected no matter what.

And before anyone says anything like, "ok then you shouldn't have posted the pics you did on your profile", it shouldn't matter what I post.  Having someone I don't know compliment me under the guise of soliciting sex is wrong.

Thanks Pam, it's great to be loved by fellow believers as well as by the Lord!

Forks sent me a message yesterday asking if I'd fallen off the face of the earth so I thought I'd better check in with you wonderful people!

I've gained a few pounds lately, thanks to ovulation and a weekend of camping which usually means s'mores, burgers, brats & the like.  I'll take it back off again, no worries.

Hope everyone is doing well; blessings & hugs to all!

Welcome tiffani!  I'm kinda new here too but wanted to say hello anyway.  Feel free to check out my profile & journal so you can get to know me a bit; in fact, I welcome any of the CCC'ers to do so!

I've fallen away from the Word over the summer but not the Lord.  He makes His presence known in many ways in my life, and I praise Him for that.

Well it's almost 8AM Eastern here, the kids are still asleep (at the moment) and I'm still in my jammies.  Better finish my coffee and get some calories burned!

Blessings & hugs everyone!

Good question, kt!  For now, this is what I do: I use the toolbar to go to my account on the "old" site, and the eat meter kicks in.  Other than that, I tagged the new site as a favorite (bookmarked it) so I can get to it a little easier.

Hope this helps!
