200 calories???

women are supposed to have at least 1,200 calories a day and for men it's 1,500 calories.. anything less than that is unhealthy.

Yes, Bennyboy5 you are right .......... and that is the minimum for the organs to run correctly, under that and you are at risk for many complications......malnutrition, electrolyte imbalance ,

Hyponatremia (related to "water-loading") - as stated above, electrolytes are essential to proper body functioning. Drinking too much water (more than eight, eight-ounce glasses in less than twelve hours), can cause Hyponatremia (not enough sodium in the blood), especially in someone already malnourished or dehydrated. Hyponatremia can cause fluid in the lungs, the brain to swell, nausea, vomiting, confusion and even death.

I am not familiar with a cruiser, but the best bike for a hilly road is a Road Bike with gears...........you really need the gears if you are going to be riding those hills.

Add some "pedialyte" to your water, you can get the flavored or non flavored..........find it in the baby section.  It provides the electrolytes you will need.

If you absolutely cant find the time, concentrate on eating only nutritious foods, stay away from junk and don't over-eat.  This is only temporary until school is done.......right?  In the meantime ask yourself........can you take a short walk at lunch, or maybe walk to or from school?  Do you at least have a Phys ed class.........if so make the best of it.

As far as getting to sleep............Try not to drink or eat 2-3 hours before bed.  Avoid any caffeine even in the early afternoon it can stay in your system for 8  or so hours. ( Exercise is not reccomended before bed either, it will wake your system up and will be harder to fall asleep ) Perhaps try a "sleepytime" herbal tea an hour before bed (meditation breathing is also great) to help you fall asleep faster...........instead of watching tv, listen to "relaxing" music.  Sleep is very important to a teen.......If you can get this under control, perhaps you will eventually be able to get the proper sleep to wake up earlier to get your exercise.

Good luck and don't stress, just be accountable for your health, you only get one body treat it right.

Foods Can Green Tea actually make you loose weight? May 25 2009

Green Tea is a great antioxidant.  Drink the decaf later in the day.  Of course more calories burned than taken in will lose the weight.

I have noticed it helps reduce my sugar cravings though, and if you are drinking it instead of sodas, and other caloric drinks then you will be taking on less calories.

Try to get the organic green tea (loose tea leaves best), if available, and stay away from the bottled premade stuff.

Oh and if you don't want to drink the tea, green tea supplements are available in the vitamin section.

I used to get chronic sinus infections I chose to never stop my workout routine.  If you want to stay disciplined do your workout, just take it at a lower intensity.  Also make sure you are eating extra veggies and fruits for your immune system.  Stay away from sugar, junk and milk products.  Drink plenty of water.

Weight Loss Green Tea Jan 03 2009

Green tea is a great antioxidant.  I think it is marketed as "weight loss" to sell more.  I don't think it helps "loose weight" (the only thing that will do that is more calories burned than taken in) but I have noticed my appetite is more controlled when I drink the green tea (or take the supplement).  I suggest take the supplement with food with breakfast and or lunch, you may want to avoid it at dinner (because of the caffeine).

I agree with starrkate stay clear of "weight loss pills"..............green tea vitamins can be found in the vitamin section.  I think they also have "on the go" green tea powder packs, you put it in your water.

You may also want to try another antioxidant (also helps appeitite) Acai berry.  It comes in juices and capsule vitamins as well as powder.

Fitness No sure what to put for "Activity Level" in my settings Aug 22 2008

If you walk less than 5,000 steps a day you are actually still considered "sedentary".  Up to 9,999 is considered only low activity.  I know it sounds crazy.  But here is an article you can check out.  It is a good that you are listing your activities seperately.

Great on the 10lbs!  I can understand what you are saying.  Getting mad at yourself however will only put more stress on you.  Perhaps you can make list of your reasons for your healthy new lifestyle.

For example

I am practicing a healthy lifestyle;

To lower my bad cholesterol, lower my blood pressure strengthen my heart

To live longer and stronger to enjoy life with my children.

To set a good example for my children.  (perhaps even consider not getting junk for your kids unless it is a special occasion, then you can also partake in moderation, this will help keep your kids healthy as well)

Etc.

What would you add to this list?

Also try rewarding yourself for your goals.

For example, If I jog so many miles for this week then I will buy myself a new whatever.  Little goals then big goals.  Set daily, weekly, monthly, yearly.  Make the reward appropriate for your goal.

Allow yourself a "forbidden" food once and a while.  If you don't you are more apt to just give up and end up overeating or not getting back on track.

Since it sounds like you are an emotional eater, really try to focus in on why and what you are eating.  Are you eating to fuel your body, or are you eating because you are worried/stressed about something?

Oh yeah and try subbing bad foods for less bad foods, you may be surprised that a lean turkey dog with soy crumbles, or lean ground turkey (as chili meat) with smart balance melted shredded cheese and a side of sweet potato fries is a good sub for your favorite and doesn't taste so bad.  If it doesn't taste very good, remember once and a while is ok.  After a while though your taste buds will actually change and crappy food will not taste as good.

Lastly, try adding yoga or even just breathing relaxing time, even 10 minutes a day will help control your anger and prevent you from getting mad at yourself.  I will see if I can find some sights on breathing techniques.

I hope this helps.

Take care and don't be so hard on yourself, give yourself a pat on the back.  It is all worth it!

Foods Why is everyone buying into the 100 calorie pack hype???? Jul 03 2008

Yes, I see your point.  I think many people just buy it for convenience.  Some beacuse, they can't control opening a bag of something and taking only a "portion" out.  This is a little helpful, of course assuming you don't grab 3 bags.

It is all crap anyway.  I would suggest grabbing a banana, orange an apple instead.

Hey Whitney,

I already made a comment in your journal, but I wanted to share with others that if your bones (or teeth) hurt/body ache it could mean you are not getting enough calcium, so your body is eating away at your bones making them ache.

Try to eat more protein, and more calcium.

Fitness Simple ab exercises I can do at work? Jun 29 2008
16:30 (UTC)

Standing oblique twists.

while standing, plant your feet on the floor shoulder length apart, slightly bent knees.  suck in you abs, arms are flexed in a v and hands in a fist (like you are boxing)slowly twist left to right with your upper torso lower body does not move.

Not sure what this is called but

while standing feet planted on the floor abs sucked in, arms flexed (again like a boxer) lift your left knee up(left foot is coming off the ground) while bringing you right elbow to your knee diagonally across your body(your upper body will be twisting to the left)

Not sure if I explained those very well, I personally am a visual learner, I will see if I can find any pics on the net explaining them a little better.

Take care.

Do you know your current calorie intake?

500 deficit x 21 days (you said 3 weeks) = 10500

1lb is = to 3500 calories

10500 divided by 3500 = 3lbs.  I believe calorie count suggests between 500 and 1,000 calorie deficit is ok.  So you could double it to 6lbs.

However your intake can not be lower than 1200 as a female (assuming you are nt a teen, sorry didnt look at your profile before responding) this is essential for your organs to work correctly so make sure you do not go below.

Take care.

p.s Other suggestions cut out all junk food, eat your veggies, get plenty of protein and I like to drink green tea.

I agree with the others that are suggesting to work out the upper body (weights/bands) and as bobek suggested the pool.

Do you belong to a gym?  If so you can get a fairly good cardio workout on the arm bike

http://www.expertvillage.com/video/19442_gym- equipment-cardio-arm-bike.htm

If not you can purchase a (smaller) one from a sports store/online starting about $45/50.

I will see if I can come up with a link and post it later for you.

Take care!

I don't know anything about thyroid conditions, however, your concern about your mom being dehydrated is quite legit.

If you live close tell, go over and tell her we are going to the Emergency room or at least an immediate medical center (although the er would do more tests, because they have access, and maybe even give her an IV if they feel needed, then be able to take blood)

If you don't live close call her and tell her to go herself and or call a friend of hers to take her.

Let us know how she is.

Take care.

HI there!  Welcome.

I am originally from NJ!  It will be 2 years this summer I moved to Vegas.

I agree with kimberly, toss the Doritos out.  If you must buy them eventually buy the baked and get the small snack sizes, but for now get rid of all the junk.

What are your stats, height, weight, goals?

We can give you more suggestions if we had this info.

Again welcome!
