no change this week.  tis okay.  adding in actual weight training twice a week to help more with my shoulder so I don't have to go to the chiropractor and to get more toned overall.

hope everyone else did well this week!

keep patient and keep strong!

sorry, this is a long reply.  I officially started sept 10.  I had to look back at this thread to see.  :) so about 1lb loss a week.

it's easier for me to plan my day around exercise. that gives you no excuse to skip it.  there's alot of stuff that is exercise that I dont really count as exercise.  for me I get up every morning at 6am to run 3 miles or I run in the afternoon directly after work, except for going to the chiropractor to figure out what is wrong with me or if I really am very sick.  so the run is the required exercise.  then I have my martial arts class twice a week that I love going to.  my bf and I go hiking, walk around the block, or play tennis.  that's extra exercise but I see it as fun more.

health should be the number one priority.  I dont know if I am sacrificing much.  I think the biggest change for me is the food.  you can easily plan that in advance, and it shouldn't affect the rest of your life.  I stock my fridge with fruits and veggies.  I pull the recipes and plan my week.  I prep the veggies and what not so it's easier to cook.  this all takes less than a day to do.  then I bring my lunch to work.  I still eat at out though.  I do limit myself to eating out max 3 meals a week.  also I dont have the chips etc at my place, so I cant reach for them to snack on.  really, I'd say just dont deprive yourself but surround yourself well so that it's easier to make the healthier choices.  my bf and I have been snacking on cantaloupe like crazy for some reason these past 3 weeks.  :P  but whatever works for ya, stick with it...

taking care of yourself should be integrated in your life rather than something separate.  my last job was kinda in the safety industry so I'm partially bias hehe. but I know it's harder in college.  dont weigh yourself everyday else you wont feel progress and it's not motivating.  but other than that, just keep active and have fun!  I know the major problem I would have had in college is eating out with friends.

if you dont look at it as a weight loss challenge more than a life change to be healthier, then I think you'll have a different perspective on things.  when I run, my goal isn't to lose weight more than to consistently run 3 miles in under 30 minutes.  I'm tentatively aiming to do the hawaii half marathon in dec 2009.  haha vacation in hawaii and working out!  we may not go but it's my goal for now and I'm looking forward to it. :)

or when I eat, I actually am not looking at it as lose weight but as getting in the nutrients I need and enjoying what I eat.  there is a lot of good food that is actually healthy.  more than anything, I've been trying to get all my vitamins and nutrients (i.e iron, potassium, etc) required for a day.  I use calorie count more to monitor if I am actually getting enough calories.  it's hard to eat lots of good food, especially fruits & veggies, cuz they are sooo low in calories.  plus my calorie deficit is too high if I "exercise" too much.  gota watch out for that too.

some books say to note how you feel after you eat something and remem that.  after I eat a greasy meal or over eat, I feel like crap.  I hate that feeling, so I am now less likely to go over eat or I will change my choice on what I eat.  the donuts at work aren't as satisfying as the cup of vanilla ice cream at home.  :)  I pick and choose my splurges.

I guess with life, everything is moderation and balance. it's just easier when you get so use to it that you don't have to think about it.  hope that helps!  good luck!

SW: 145, CW: 137.4, GW: 115  yay progress!

damndetermined, you gota set a schedule and stick to it.  try taking an informal cardio class or something that will require you to set a schedule.  running actually helps me with the stress rather than be a burden on me.  on my last job, I had to get on a plane every monday & friday, commuting to and from cali and wash dc.  the only thing keeping me sane was running every morning.  the consultant life of living out of a hotel, eating out 3 times a day at odd hours, lack of sleep, and work stress/ drama in the end kicked my butt.  I'm happy I moved on from that job, but that's all the weight I am trying to lose now.

the only time I don't have to think is when I run or when I am hiking.  it is my "me time."  it's my time to get away from the world.  don't worry.  I'm 5'3" also, but 7 years older than you.  :P  I've lost atleast 7lbs and am aiming to be 115lb also, but I'm actually fine with 125lb.  find your activity.  make it fun so you look forward to it.  use it as your stess reliever.  I can tell ya that salsa dancing is soooo fun and definitely a workout that you don't even notice you are doing.  plus make sure you aren't starving yourself or your body will store every calorie you intake instead of burning it.  I could be wrong, but anything more than a 1000 calorie deficit is not good for you at all.  just get some healthy habits going that you can keep doing even without calorie count.  that will help you in the long run...

oh and good luck everyone else on here! :)

I've been slacking on my runs the past two weeks cuz I been meeting up with a chiropracter who has definitely realigned me.  my left shoulder and left side of my neck has been killing me to the point where I can't sleep on that side at all.  now Im fine but my posture is horrible.  oh and it's TTOTM.  as long as I don't gain, I'm okay for now.

I usually run 25 miles a week which actually is probably the reason why I have lost the 5lbs already. well that and watching the calorie intake.  my deficit is always between 400 to 900 calories.  no more no less.  I actually eat decently well.... lots of veggies, gota work on the fruit intake tho, and more fish and chicken than red meats.  I cook everything and eat out maybe 3 meals a week.  I gota watch out on those outside meals, but the main thing I gota work on is not being lazy. :D

I have martial arts class every Tuesdays and Thursdays for about 2hrs.   that's my strength training.  those are the days I have major trouble cuz I have to actually increase my intake of calories a lot.  I find it funny that increasing calories and eating more has become the hardest part for me.

this all has been working for me.  I just need to not slack and be lazy.

two pounds down.  I've been trying to get 25 miles total in the week and keep my calorie deficit between 500- 900.  I never really thought this would actually work for me but it seems to be working. =)

niccimax, clothes too big is a good thing!

sexycoolaries, did you figure out what was causing you to plateau for a little bit?  maybe it was an off week before but congrats on another pound loss!! =)

dz, that's a great achievement both losing 26lbs and completing your half marathon!  I had a tough time getting through my first 10k a month ago so mannn another 10k on top of that would be crazy for me.  I'm averaging about 10.5 minute miles.  been trying to build myself up to conistently doing 6 miles without any problems.

haha this is the only time a loss is good.  good luck everyone!  keep it going strong for next week!

Weight Loss need help with fiber, veggies, & fruit Sep 21 2008

try sunflower seeds.  there's almost 4g of fiber in .25 cups on sunflower seeds.  I just throw it in my cereal in the morning, throw it in salads, and use it when I cook pastas and what not cuz I don't notice them at all.

I cut all my fresh fruit and have it all prepped already so that I have grab bags or little containers of carrots, pears, grapes, etc for each day.  I do all the prepping one day of the week, and the rest of the week is fast and easy.  eat them in the car or whereever you want.  always have them out in your view so you remem to eat then and always have something to snack on.

also something that may not be super feasible but I love eating is frozen grapes!!  but they are very unappealing when they thaw and get mushy though hehe.  but I eat them like popcorn when I watch tv or a movie.  :)

oh and this site has lots good info about food nutrition and content: whfoods . com

good luck!

yay! down a pound.

wow dz44, a half a marathon would be awesome to do!!  my legs aren't there yet to be able to handle that kinda mileage.  altho I'm in a pool with my family and friends to run/ walk.  none of us are marathoners or half marathoners.  we all just wana be more active.  the person with the most miles wins like $300.  money... what a motivator!!  :P  maybe one day I will attempt the half marathon.

anywho, sexycoolaries. it does sound like you are doing the right things.  I'm not sure what else it could be.  maybe you are right about not eating enough.  the body will store everything it gets if it's not getting enough. *shrugs*  I'd say up the food more than work out less.

and sgbear98, if you are losing it healthily and keeping it off, then I wouldn't worry about the amount you have loss being too much.  congrats on the loss for sure!!  :)

good luck everybody!

hi! can I join yall's group too?

after coming back from labor day weekend in Texas, I could use a 30lb loss.  I seem to gain everytime I go back to visit the family.  :(  too much good food.  :D anywho I have a wedding to go to in November and am hoping to lose 20lbs by then.

I gained so much weight cuz of my previous job.  I literally lived out of a hotel and ate out 3 meals a day with coffee in between for 4 days a week.  2 days of my week were spent on a 6hrs flight across the USA.  so yeah I quit that job a yr ago.  been trying to lose all that I gained from it.  got rid of the stress but the weight.... blah!  I've been on calorie count before but never had the dilegence to keep going with it, so figured I give it a shot again.  and having a thread to post to and people as support should help me keep this going. :)

so some stats... I'm 5'3" starting at 145lb and hoping to get to 125.  115 would be even better.

I use to run alot... not as much now... but didn't lose much weight.. maybe max 3lbs.  so I've increased my strength training to twice a week starting this week, since mainly cardio didn't help me much.  and I eat pretty healthy so I'm not sure what else to do.

activity wise... I run atleast 2 miles almost every day... will be more when my nike+ running challenge with my siblings start next week.  I have a martial arts class twice a week that pretty much is calisthenics and strength training and it's kicking my butt but it's fun!  and I do this RealAge.com Intermediate 20 min workout as a warm up everyday.

I started this mission to lose weight officially on Monday, since I'm trying out that Special K diet of having cereal for 2 of my 3 meals and munchin on veggies and fruit when I'm hungry.  only I'm using Total cuz of the better nutritional factor. and I'm aiming to eat between 1300 and 1500 calories since I work out everyday.  that'll give me a deficit of between 500-900 calories each day.  I eat out max 3 times a week with one of those meals as Japanese/ Sushi.  the rest of the week is all home cooking for me.

so we'll see how this all goes...

sexycoolaries - are you doing more cardio than strength training?  try increasing the strength training.  muscles tend to burn more calories even if you don't do anything.  :)

dz44 - I hear ya.  I've been getting up every morning at 5:30am to go run and it's getting darker and darker.  hang in there.  but daylight savings time should help brighten everything!

YAY!  good luck everyone!!  :)  sorry for the long post...
