Weight Loss Big celebration meal -What should I eat? Sep 30 2008

Well first of all congratulations! That's a big accomplishment! Second of all, one day of eating "fatty foods" isn't going to set you back at all. What I'd do in your place is save up calories for that dinner. Eat lightly before so that you can splurge on the celebration dinner. Just have one day of good ole eating, you deserve a cheat dinner! Then just get back to your regimen the next day! Have a great time at your dinner and enjoy France!

I know what you mean with the long hair and getting tired of the same old hair style. Mine has always been long (down to my boobs) and with long layers...BORING! But just last friday in fact, I got tired of it, so I went to get it trimmed (bc I still wanna grow it out some more) so she cut like an inch off for dead ends, cut me some side "swoop" bangs and then made short layers extending from the side bangs that fell around my face to frame it. I love it because with the short layers I feel like I have short hair, but it's still long. And it's also more movable! And if you want to do something to thin out your hair, they have a special pair of scissors that will thin your hair out. And also doing any sort of layering will thin it out some too and make your hair less / \. Hope that helps! Good Luck and God Bless!

A binge is like over 1000 cals at least! So you are fine hunny! I agree with the above two people...just consider it a little cheat day! NO BIGGIE! Smile I would stay with your 1400, however, if you think you'd feel better either bump up your work out for a few days OR eat 1300 for a few days; but honestly I think you'd be just fine if you just went back to your normal regimen. Good luck; happy counting; and GOD BLESS!

What keeps me grounded is my faith and my trust in God. Everything is within His control, even the bad, which is hard to understand. But God will allow bad things to happen because He uses it to discipline us and teach us and to bring glory to His name.

I don't know what your religious view are, but I do know that before I came to Christ, I was an unhappy person, trying to find happiness from the world, which ultimately left me even more unhappy. It wasn't until I finally repented of my sins, that is I turned away from them and changed my actions, and put my trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

As for what's going on in today's world, it doesn't surprise me one bit, because all of this has been prophesied 100's even 1,000's of years ago. And this is just the beginning. But God promises everlasting life to those who "believe in the name of His son, Jesus Christ, and keeps his commandments."

I'm 22 and until I was 20 I had never seriously dated anyone. I had the flings and the guys that I would "date" for a couple of weeks, but nothing ever serious with the bf/gf titles and saying I love you. I hit a very low point in my life a few months after turning 20 and I remember, to this day, crying out to God because I thought finding love would never come and that I would never get married. I was pretty much thinking along your lines. I repented of the wrongdoings in my past and God heard my prayers and answered them. Not two weeks later, did I meet the man he'd sent for me to marry. We'll celebrate our 1 year in November.

I don't want to be preachy, bc I've already been slammed for that in another forum. And I don't know your religious view, but I do know that when you repent of all the sins you know in your life and put your trust in Jesus, the same way you would trust a parachute, he'll starting cleaning up your life. He has for me. My husband and I came to Christ together, and it's been an amazing journey! Love will come when your least expecting it too! Hope this helps! God Bless!

I know exactly what you're going through. I'm 22, 5'8, and around 115-120 depending the scale I use. I've always been thin, never toned though like you. Just always could eat whatever I wanted in highschool and never gained...till I went to college and started to see a little weight gain. I got freaked out, even developed an ED which wasn't good. All the while I saw my friends also get more looks than me, and I thought being skinnier would magically change all of that. It didn't. I met my now husband 2 years ago and he told me later in our relationship that he thought I was too skinny. (I was about 110lbs.) He was my support in getting me over my ED. It's been like a year since I've recovered. I still struggle today with my weight. I have no idea what my BF% is, probably alot higher than yours bc I do absolutely no training whatsoever. I need to though, bc I'd love to get back in shape! lol. My advice is same as some of the above: Just love the skin your in (God is still helping me with this). And congrats on the training, it shows! And as for the guy, he'll come at the right time! God has the perfect timing for you! God Bless!

Well first of all this statement is NOT TRUE! You should check your sources. Second of all, the media is ONLY attacking Palin because she's A) A WOMAN and B) SHE'S A CHRISTIAN!!

The liberal media despises Christians and they'll do anything to bring them down and make the other liberal candidate (Obama) try to look good. Enough said.

For me it's:

ANYthing chocolate (candy, ice cream, brownies, cookies)

And any other desserts, especially pie!

But I find eating in moderation helps. Because I know if I completely take sweets out of my diet, then I'll just crave them even more and over-eat when I finally have them. So I usually allow myself 1-2 small servings of sweets a day.

Wow, sounds like your stuck btw a rock and a hard place. I would first of all pray fervently about his sister, because it sounds like she doesn't know Jesus, or she wouldn't be acting that way. So I would say she needs alot of prayer. Secondly, I know that you don't wanna cause beef btw the two of them, but I would mention (kindly and respectfully) to your "dying buddy" what's been going on with his sister and you and why you haven't been able to fulfill his last wishes and see if he could work it out with her. Thirdly, what has your Pastor said/suggested if anything?

And just remember to repay evil with kindness. "If your brother strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other."

Weight Loss Why do we care so much? Sep 24 2008
21:13 (UTC)

I know what you mean about always wanting to be the skinny girl. I've always, always been "skinny". My nickname in highschool was Stix because that's all I was. I still am today, don't get me wrong, I know I'm thin, but there's still something within me that wants to be skinnier. I'm 5'8 and I weigh 117-122lbs on a given day, and I'm classified already as underweight by the BMI calculator, but I have these areas on my body (namely my stomach/love handles and inner thighs) that I want to get rid of. I wish that being sickly skinny wasn't so promoted as beautiful and the norm in our culture, because I think that's part of my problem. I keep hoping someday I'll look in the mirror and be truly satisfied with the figure staring back at me...

I'm 22 and try to get about 8 hours as well. When I get less than that for more than a few days I get really tired and then when I have the chance to sleep in late, I'll get around 10 hours. I'm usually ok getting less sleep because I'm a morning person, but by mid-day I'm yawning a whole bunch. I don't nap well. I'd have to be extremely sleepy to be able to and it would have to be dark or me riding in a car on a long trip (that always puts me to sleep! haha). Oh and I think I have quite a bit of energy, but I don't exercise or work out or anything, so...I really don't know! lol Smile

Yeah I do the same thing as the above person: play music when I'm doing chores. It really does help you to feel like their not so much chores. And as far as the thank you notes are concerned (I got married last year), get your new hubby to help! lol. Just tell him all he needs to do is to fill in the addresses on the front of the envelope and you'll do the inside part. Mine was okay doing that with me...

Also, start with the chores that need it most in your home NOW. Sometimes when I have a lot to do, I always start with the area in the house that needs the most cleaning (and it's almost always the kitchen!).

One more thing, take an hour or two each day and...JUST RELAX! (Hope this helps you!) Smile

I like "binging" on popcorn. If you get kettle corn or pop your own with an air pop machine and add some salt, it's really good (and cheap). I'm where you're at right now, my husband and I are currently trying to save for a house, so we're cutting corners where ever we can. Popcorn is healthy as long as you stay away from the butter kind; and the air-popped stuff is the most healthy--a whole cup is like 35 cals. So it's a good way to eat as much of it as you want without feeling guilty!

Jenn, I know what you're going thru, I'm recovering from an ED as well. Recovered I should say. =) I found it difficult at first to start eating normal foods again and actually keeping them down (I was bulimic). For a while, at the beginning of my recovery, I would only eat air popped popcorn. This was my way of being able to eat a lot without consuming a lot of calories. But then I got tired of eating that while my other friends got to eat the really good foods without worrying what it did to their weight and I decided that I wanted to be like that. It was slow coming at first. I did what you're doing now, just eating salads with little to no dressing, fruits, veggies, oatmeal, anything with hardly any calories. Now, I'm proud to say that, while I'm still conscious of the calories and what types of food that I consume, I eat what I want when I want and I've been able to maintain the weight I'm at right now. Salads get boring, and I don't want to be eating those everyday for the rest of my life. Now I enjoy Alfredo, burritos, roast, steak, potatoes, cookies...It's all about moderation. If I eat something that's high in calories or in fat, the next time I eat something else, I eat something lower in calories or fat or whatever. As for the weight gain, stop looking at what the scale says you weigh, and start looking at how you feel. If you feel healthy, then you're doing it right. Gaining weight IS part of the recovery process. Since you had anorexia, your body was in starvation mode, so since it's now getting more nutrients than it probably ever has before, it's going to start taking all this new food and storing it as fat. Don't be scared of this fact; because once your body realizes that you won't be starving it anymore (hopefully), then it will go back to normal digestion and your metabolism will start kicking in and burning up all that fat. As for the friend's girlfriend who said that it looks like you're gaining weight, you can take that as a compliment to your recovery and keep moving forward with progress, or you can analyze it as something negative, let it bother you and you could possibly relapse into old behaviors and start the vicious cycle all over again. People are always going to have their opinions of you but the only opinion that should matter is your own! There should be two things that you should be working on in your quest for recovery: getting better. Which means start eating and giving your body the nutrients that it desperately needs. And second: love the skin you're in. Which translates to start appreciating the body that God blessed you with, problems and all. Women are supposed to have curves; instead of hiding them or getting rid of them, embrace them. We're supposed to have more cushion on certain areas. Women think skinny is beautiful, I know I still do. But men don't; they prefer women with curves, with junk in their trunk if you will. lol. I know my husband does, he's the one that helped me to recover and who told me I should get healthy and gain weight. And I did gain some; enough to where he was happy and that I was still comfortable. And I'm much happier now. I wish you luck on your road to recovery. Find someone you can confide in; it truly helped me! And remember: your body is your temple, so honor it as if you were honoring God!

Hey, yeah I'd like to join too! I'm 21, 5'8 (actually like 5'7.75 but I like to round up, lol) and I am currently 120ish (different scales say different weights). Anyways, I'm looking to maintain right now, but I still see problem areas like my stomach and love handles, if only I could get rid of them. I haven't brought myself to work out (AT ALL) yet, but I find little ways to stay somewhat active like playing with my dog, walking, taking the stairs instead of elevators, parking far away from entrances to the store, etc. But I'm trying to motivate myself to start this 10 minute pilates dvd I have so I can get toned...but haven't found my mojo yet. lol. But I like the way I look right now.

Maybe I can help shed some light on this issue for you, because I've had that issue too gaining weight back and my knowledgable husband (who is on his way to becoming a dietician) explained it to me. As women, we naturally put a lil bit of extra fat on our lower tummy as cushion for preparing for pregnancy. That being said: ITS COMPLETELY NORMAL!! =) This was on of my biggest issues in trying to gain weight because I absolutely hated it. But the thing is about this extra lil "pooch" we women seem to always call it is that men absolutely LOVE it. What's horrifyingly gross to us, is gorgeously sexy to them. My husband spent alot of energy expressing this fact to me at the beginning of my gaining weight before it finally stuck in my head that the lil "problem area" of my lower stomach is beautiful and sexy. I also have this area on my hips that has never put on fat and desperately needs it for my body to look like an hour glass, but I've never had enough weight on my body to store fat there. My husband said that once women who were previously underweight gain enough fat on their lower stomach to suffice their body's preparation for pregnancy and maturity, they will start putting on weight in the areas women are supposed to have more cushion like the butt, thighs and hips. I hope this has helped. And remember: women are supposed to have curves and that is what attracts the men to us!! =)

You know what I can't stand...I just got in a fight with my old roommate. And she brought up my ED to take a stab at me, that among other things. I HATE it when you can get in a tift with someone and they start dragging up dirt you've told them in confidence...it just really chaps my ass if you know what i mean. Needless to say the bridge is DEFINITELY burned between us and if never run into her again, I would consider it a blessing! I may have had an ED, but I recovered...but she'll always be a petty, snide, immature girl.

Hey everyone! So it's been like a week because I went on the truck with my husband for the past week and didn't have online source. I think I did really good last week. I didn't really keep a journal of anything I ate, but I did a mental add up in my head and I'm pretty sure that I probably didn't eat over or near 1600 calories on any one day. And I did eat some really good food. I had lots of coffee...lol. Popcorn and soups. Bites of foods like hotdogs, corndogs, and hamburgers that my husband would eat. Subway a couple of times, and a really good egg burrito thing from Arby's one morning.  Oh, and I also ate lots of chocolate because we got those dark chocolate mini bars from Hersheys and took on the road with us. lol. And what I ate today I still haven't counted the calories but I made a really good dinner for my husband and I: salmon with butter and basil, red mashed potatoes, and a cucumber-tomato salad...SOO GOOD!

Anyways, I read some of the last couple of posts and it seems to be that everyone has been doing really well! Congrats to all on all your breakthroughs from the past week and good luck with the many more to come!

Hey guys, hope everyone had a great week and an even better weekend. So I've noticed this week that while I'm by myself at the house while my husband is working (he drives an 18 wheeler M-F), I eat like half of what I would normally eat if he were around.  Monday was 1400, but that was only because I have a church thing at night where dinner was provided=pasta. Tuesday 1043, Wednesday 885, Thursday 999, and Friday 1137 and 150 of that was because I made air popped popcorn and put butter on it. It's not that I'm seriously restricting calories or anything nonsensical like that, it's just that when I wake up in the morning and I usually make the same breakfast around 8-10 am: 2 mugs of coffee, 2 scrambled eggs, and a piece of toast with butter and strawberry jam, which is like 444 calories.  Then I don't eat lunch till like 2. And I don't like to really cook when it's just me by myself except for the eggs but those are super easy and quick, so I will usually eat one of three things: canned soup, turkey sandwich, or popcorn. And sometimes I'm just too busy to notice that like 4-5 hours have passed since I last ate breakfast and by then I'm like I don't wanna make anything. And could also be that I didn't go grocery shopping this week because I'm saving up to get him a new cell phone for Christmas, so there was nothing appetizing in the house...lol. But then when my husband is here, we cook together ALL the time. Healthy things too, so my calorie intake is normal, like around 1400-1600. I'm just lazy I guess...but my husband will be here this weekend and I'm going on the truck with him next week so I know my calories will be more because he tends to just eat fast foods all the time. Fast foods scare me...it's gross. But I'm going to be sure to bring lots of healthy foods/snacks on the truck and if/when we do get fast food, I'll be sure to chose a healthier alternative on the menu or make him stop at Subway! lol.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone. Happy Eating! lol
