To me, konjac noodles are REALLY similar to asian glass noodles (korean japchae for example) and I find these noodles to be a GREAT replacement in asian dishes!

When you say they're similar to Asian glass noodles, do you mean in taste or texture or both? I love glass noodles! I've been curious about these for a while now, but I haven't tried them since I don't want to waste money if I end up not liking it.

Lost a pound, but I think it might just be weight fluctuation. I've been eating an awful lot due to new year parties. *worried*

Great goal! Count me in. I signed up long time ago and kept telling myself that I'd lose weight, but I kept setting these unrealistic goals that resulted in disappointment and made me feel so unmotivated. This seems like something I could stick to, though. I'd like to get to lose 15 lb total, but 10 by March 31 sounds good to me!

Why don't you just get a salad? I always do. You can get a great salad for about 200 or 300 calories (less even, if you want :p). Get the dressing on the side so that you control the amount, or go with plain lemon juice.

Those wraps they use are huge, and someone else (who is not concerned with your calorie intake!) slaps on the dressing/sauce for you. It should be obvious that it would be high calorie. In fact, a wrap is often higher in calories than two slices of bread. I'll never understand why people think otherwise.

Foods Cereal better than Fiber One? Jul 27 2008

Fibre 1 = rabbit food.

Go with life multigrain cereal or allbran guardian. I love allbran guardian as a snack! Oh and it has just as much fibre as fibre 1!

I like All-Bran Guardian too, though I think it's a bit sweet. I have to disagree that it has as much fibre as Fibre 1 though:

All-Bran Guardian: 1 cup (34 g), 110 calories, 6 g fibre

Fibre 1: 1/2 cup (30 g), 100 calories, 14 g fibre (more than 2x that of Guardian!)

While I can see how people think your friends are mean for calling you a pig, I find that that type of teasing is quite common with some of my Chinese friends. Maybe it's an Asian thing? I'm Chinese, and it's always seemed to me that Asians are more strict on maintaining a smaller size.

For instance...

  • Some of my super skinny friends complain about how fat their stomachs are and that they don't want to gain weight when, in my opinion, they would look better with an extra 5 lb.
  • When I was growing up, my grandmother would always tell me not to get fat and bring up my previously chubby cousin as an example of how NOT to look.
  • My parents have a friend whose son is overweight, and instead of using his name, they refer to him as Piglet (but not to his face, of course).
  • One of my best friends and possibly the thinnest girl I know, 5'4 and about 100 lb, is always being told she's fat by her parents.
  • When my cousin first met me last year after coming to Canada from China, she commented to my grandmother that I had very large thighs. Huh? At the time, I was 105 lb at 5'3 and wore a size 0/1 jean. Surprised

Now, I have to say that you're a cute girl, and if you don't want them teasing you, tell them to stop. If they're anything like my friends, they probably don't even realize they're making you uncomfortable, and I honestly think the mustkeepthin mentality is ingrained in the culture. You might feel pressured to lose weight, but you don't need to. You look great, and it's not worth risking another ED to lose a few pounds.

Just ate lunch so I'm not really craving right now, but generally?

Lasagna, with lots and lots of melty cheese and sauce. And pancakes (or waffles), drizzled with yummy syrup.

I'm not actually hungry after eating an apple, but it makes me crave another!

Might just be the sugar.

sauciedj: You're lucky. :) Wish my family dinners were more like yours.

angeliclovegal: Well, yes, white rice does have some nutrients, but it pales in comparison to brown rice.

xxklulessxx: If you're eating in China, that's definitely authentic! lol. Totally agree on eating unrefined grains. I once asked my mom why we don't eat brown rice, and she told me it doesn't taste good. She also told me that that's what poor people eat since it's more expensive to have it refined? Don't know if that's true.

Ahh, I hate how my parents make such unhealthy food. And just yesterday, my dad bought some Chinese bakery buns. Boo!

Weight Loss What kind of "eater" are you ? May 29 2008

but for me, i am more of a excessive eater... im the type that wont stop eating till my stomach hurts at a buffet. If there's food in front of me, I will eat it. I used to not only clean the food on my own plate but other people's as well... I'd say I'm doing better at portion control now but I still LOVE food. I also snack out of boredom and i find it especially hard not to eat when I watch tv/movies/dvds.

to prevent myself from overeating, I now plan snack times to keep my mouth occupied and its been working pretty well. I just wish there was something like gum that will last forever and still keep me satisfied. (chewing gum makes me hungry)

You're just like me! For instance, if my friends and I go to buffet, I'm the one who eats everything, and then goes for more ice cream when everyone else is crying for mercy. I eat more than some of the guys. :-o

I don't normally eat while watching movies, but I definitely eat when I get bored.

Hmm. Just tried cookk's site, and I really think it's inaccurate. I wish it were true, but there is no way I only have 15.7% body fat! Another online calculator gave me 32%. Realistically, I'm probably in the middle.

Weight Loss At what weight did your thighs stop touching? May 12 2008

I have to agree with those who say that it depends on your build. My thighs always touch; that's just the way my body is. Even when I was 103 lb at 5'3" my thighs touched, so it's no indicator of whether or not you're overweight.

Foods What do ya'll put in your tea? May 09 2008

1. I love almost all teas! Especially ginger, oolong, white, honey lemon, peppermint... well, yeah, you get the idea. I really like tea.

2. I don't put anything in my tea. I think milk and sugar ruin the taste, so I don't add anything.

Weight Loss Lost 5 lbs in one day... May 02 2008
07:49 (UTC)

Haha, lol. I agree with ekr15 though, weight goes up and down pretty easily. I remember this one day (almost a year ago), when I stepped on the scale both before I left the house and after I came back 3 hours later, only to find that I weighed an extra 5 lb. I'd only had milk and a small sandwich! By the next morning I was back at 105. Weight is weird. Tongue out

Good for you for wanting to stop.

Essentially, you just need a distraction from your craving. Gum (as previously mentioned) is a good choice since it's almost calorie free, and keeps your mouth busy for a while. You could also try having a cup of tea instead of that cigarette.

Another idea is to get some exercise when the craving hits. Try going for a walk or a run to get your mind off it.

Weight Loss College Students Out There?-- Anyone with similar stats? May 01 2008

Sounds like what happened to me. I just finished first year and gained almost 20 pounds. It was the constant snacking that did me in, and some nights I would just be really stressed (e.g., studying for a test) and would essentially inhale an extra 1000 to 2000 calories in bread, cheese and cookies. And  chocolate, if we had any in the house. Some days I would honestly eat 3000 or 4000 calories, and I would feel so bad about myself afterwards. But anyway, I'm fighting back now, and I'm determined to lose some of that weight.

Before first year: 103 lb, 5'3"

After first year: 122 lb at my heaviest, 118 currently

Goal: 110 lb (I was too scrawny at 103, haha)

How often I exercise? Er, not very much. I do a lot of walking and I spend about 15 hours a week constantly on my feet at work, but I don't do much actual exercise. I do some strength training and occasionally dance or hop on my exercise bike. I want to do Couch to 5k once the weather warms up though. (Still a bit chilly in Toronto!)

Calorie intake: About 1600. I tried eating less, but it just wasn't working for me.

Goal date: My birthday in July! :)

Fave snacks: Fruit, yogurt, a glass of milk, and whole wheat bread. (Not all at once, obviously...)
