Get up when the alarm goes off, don't hit snooze, don't lay down again.

It's really simple.  It's not pleasant, but it's simple.

The Lounge dating a heavier girl/lighter guy Jun 06 2008
23:18 (UTC)

I dated both heavier and lighter women than me before I met my wife (who's shorter and lighter than me).  I was a stick in highschool though and 6'2" tall.

If I had to go through dating again I would have to date someone with the same view on healthy eating / exercise as I do now.  Otherwise there would be considerable trouble with food decisions.  I am fortunate now to have a wife who loves eating healthy at least as much as I do.  It has made the transition a lot easier.

Weight Loss 20 pounds in 10 weeks-have you ever done it?? Jun 06 2008

I lost 20lb in 10 weeks just following the advice of others on this site and sticking to it.  I think it was easier because I had more than 20 to lose though.  I went from ~220 to 190 pretty quickly, after that my weight loss slowed down as I approach a reasonable weight (6'2" male).

If your ideal weight is at the bottom of the 20lb you want to lose, it would be difficult to get it off in 10 weeks.

Wow, you guys are really not seeing eye to eye on this are you?

It's great that you have your "pink dumbbells" and that you use them (it's better than before when you didn't).  To get defensive when someone tells you there's a better way is over the top don't you think?  Most people on this site are about getting healthy.  A good percentage of those want to do it as quickly as possible which is why the advice for heavy lifting goes around (it's more efficient).

If you only have the motivation to do light lifting or none at all, by all means do the light lifting.  If you want to get into shape quickly you should do heavier lifting.

I'm curious too since that's pretty much where the last bit of mine is hanging on for dear life.

Here's an interesting article about avoiding it

I haven't tried any of the methods there. If anyone has, please let us know.

Foods Honey question Jun 06 2008
19:03 (UTC)

Mmmmm, honey!  My wife was just over at a friends house the other night and brought back a jar of honey.  The friends husband is a beekeeper and this stuff pretty much came straight from the hive!

The processed honey in the stores has nothing on honey jarred by your local beekeepers.  Local honey is also used sometimes to help treat mild local allergies (pollen, etc).

Sounds like you already know how you should eat but aren't doing it.  That's the sucky thing about healthy eating, no one else can do it for you.  Figure out a good eating schedule and do it.  That's all there is to it.

I was 25 before I realized this so you have a good jump on me here.  The sooner you learn, the better.

Bread isn't the best thing for the diet, that's for sure.  I tend to feel a lot like the food I eat and bread is nice and fluffy!

The Lounge How I should respond to weird ebay inquiries I received Jun 06 2008

I would be VERY careful about who you sell to outside of the website.  I don't think I would handle a transaction with someone over the internet.  I would want cash in my hand before handing over the tickets and do it in person.  If you stay on ebay's site you at least have some level of protection.

Weight Loss What do you considered Jun 05 2008

Not really a food, but soda. It was my #1 calorie problem before I started here. 800-900 calories a day in your drinks alone (and not good calories at that)!

Also candy bars.

I know, these are obviously bad for you.

I've ALWAYS had trouble sleeping.  I have a very active mind, too many projects, and not enough time.  If I don't get a good workout in at least every other day I stop sleeping well.  I know that doesn't exactly answer your question, but what are you doing for exercise?  It made a huge difference for me to get regular exercise.

Motivation no motivation to hit the gym when it's yucky outside! Jun 04 2008
18:08 (UTC)

I feel that way sometimes.  Most people feel a little less motivated when the weather isn't great.  Some people actually get depressed in the winter months when it's nasty out for long periods (check out Seasonal affective disorder).

I usually go cause I feel TONS better when I go to the gym.  Besides, that's why I have a gym membership in the first place - so I can work out when it's the weather is crappy.

I also had the office job weight gain.  I'm 6'2" and start out at 219.  I'm down to 187 now and feel a LOT better.  I go to the gym at least 3 days a week and count my calories here.  I also just started riding my bike to the gym in the morning, showering at the gym after my workout, then riding the mile to work (not enough to get me too sweaty).

I started off with a BMI 28.1 (moderately overweight) of and now I'm at 24.0 (healthy).

That's going to depend a lot on your music preference.  I've been listening to Evil Empire.  It's got some pretty standard Rage songs that I liked a a few I never heard before (didn't like them as much).  Songs tend to grown on me though and I like most of it now.  I would take a stroll through the itunes store and listen to some samples of them before you buy.

I don't usually buy CD's anymore.  I buy from itunes and put them on my ipod.

Technically you could eat that stuff and loose weight as long as you are staying under your calorie goal.  The problem is you will feel like crap and you will lose weight from the wrong places (lose more muscle, less fat).  The best thing for you is to eat a healthy balanced diet (goes a LOT farther calorie-wise) and get some resistance training in to keep the muscle you have while you lose the fat.

It was hard at first to give up the rich foods (I LOVE THEM SO MUCH!) but I found out about 3 weeks in that if I at healthy I could eat more and it lasted longer.  It just makes life easier to eat healthy.

You can keep your sanity by having a cheat meal.  I don't go for cheat days cause I feel like I slide too far backwards.  I usually schedule a cheat meal (my date night with my wife or a weekend dinner).  I eat healthy the entire day and when the meal comes where I can have whatever I want, I usually don't eat as much of it.  I guess I did so well in the first part of the day I'd hate to ruin it with one meal.

Hope this helps!

I guess it depends on how tight of a calorie budget you are on.  I usually go by the higher number just to be sure.

Fitness Before & after Workouts...What do I eat? Feel so sick right now :( Jun 03 2008
18:43 (UTC)

I go to the gym in the mornings before work so I have to eat something before my workout.  I usually have a bowl of whole grain total before and a slimfast optima shake afterwards.  The slimfast isn't the best thing for me, but it brings all my levels up quickly and makes the shaky feeling go away.

I know what you mean about feeling sick though.  Anytime I push myself that much farther I get sick.  Yesterday I had to sit for about 10 minutes before showering so I wouldn't throw up.  Most people I've talked to say that walking it out works best for them.  I felt better after my cooldown bike ride to work after the gym.

It's hard to tell with those angles, but you look pretty good the way you are.  I would be careful calling yourself a fatty - you are at some people's goal!  I agree with vponce above.  Weight training might rearrange things a little more to your liking.

Just curious, what does number 6 do?

Changing your admin account name and passwords makes it more difficult for someone to break in using valid services.

A non-administrator account limits your rights so you can't accidentally screw things up during your day-to-day usage.

Overall, nothing works better at keeping your computer clean than knowing what NOT to click on.  Very few things on the internet are actually free.

Just a personal experience - same happened to me and my OH, and it turns out that completely unintentionally I made him feel unwanted because I didn't initiate sex as often as he wanted, I thought he'd just let me know when he wanted to and I was pretty shy. Needless to say that changed as we got more comfortable and more confident with each other and our relationship. So perhaps you could take the lead........? Kiss him when he comes in from work, dress up and go out for dinner....... (commando anyone?). If you love each other you'll work it out, but no one ever said it would be easy!! :o)

Just a comment on this... most guys love it when the woman initiates sex.  I don't know the exact reasons for it.  Makes a huge difference though.

Commando is hot too.  Don't tell him till you're out...
