| Foods | what is a good low cal snack? | Feb 28 2008 17:16 (UTC) |

well, im assuming you want something you have on hand, so i highly reccommend fruit. or tea. tea is so good. a nice sweet treat is to cut up an apple and place it in the middle of a square of tin foil, sprinkle with 1 tbsp brown sugar and a dash of cinnamon, seal, and bake at 350 for 20-30 mins. if youre buying something, im a huuuuge fan of sugar free jello and rice cakes. or maybe a skinny latte. mmmm. |

| Foods | Such thing as too much fruit? | Feb 27 2008 21:24 (UTC) |

hmm. see i consider fruit as sort of a free food, and yes i know it has sugar, and that did immediately bother me when i read this post. I will usually eat maybe 4 or 5 servings fruit throughout the day. i do agree that that early in the morning so much fruit is not good. but, lileberly, you asked if that is too much fruit in a days time and i say no. i usually have fruit with all 3 or 4 of my meals, and maybe one or two fruits as snacks otherwise. so if you spread those out, then i think thats okay, because personally, when i crave something, im going to have something sweet either way, and i would rather have it be a fruit than chocolate or something. at least, along with your sugar, you are getting some nutrients, but try to spread it out next time ;) |

I am totally a tea addict now, it gets me warm after i come in from the cold, keeps my hands and mouth busy, and is totally delicious! i highly reccommend tea. also try an apple, its high fibre, so it should fill you. if you want a sweeter treat, cut up an apple and put it in the centre of a square piece of tin foil(keep the skin on, it has all the good stuff) and sprinkle 1 tbsp brown sugar and a dash of cinnamon on top. wrap it up tightly and bake it at 350 for 20-30 mins. its very satisfying, at only 110 calories i believe. its like apple pie filling. the only problem is waiting for 20 minutes to eat it, while the delicious smell wafts into the kitchen! you could make a mini pizza too, with half of a pita, some pizza sauce, cheese, and your fave toppings, broiled in the oven (about 150 calories). i love love love rice cakes, very low cal. another lifesaver for me is sugar free jello (5 calories). you can also get mini fudgsicles or fat free ones, theyre about 45 calories each and they give me major chocolate satisfaction. i also enjoy a good old popsicle, the ones with two sticks are only 60 cals, and you can even get a sugar free kind if you want. if you like pickles, you can definitely dig into those. i also love english muffins, try having half of one with some peanut butter(not too much! i use half a tbsp) or some laughing cow cheese. there are so many things you could do, even just try some water or flavoured water (if you really need something sweet!) i hope you can use some of these suggestions. i'm the type of person who loves to snack, i cant divert it or ignore it. but you dont have to go on cal overload, sometimes a cup of tea is suffice, if not, the snacks i mentioned above wont kill your diet. when worst comes to worst, i stick a piece of gum in my mouth and suck it up! |

I second the rice cakes! I especially love the white cheddar. I also enjoy having sugar free jello, popsicles, mini fudgsicles, or fat free chocolate frozen yogourt. I have heard a lot of complaints on these message boards about them, but I personally love the weight watchers chocolate cakes. Before I give in to my craving, I'll try an apple and/or some tea. I often enjoy an english muffin with pb. I really love making sugar free fat free lattes as well. they are a close friend of mine;) try mixing a box of choc cake mix with a can of club soda and baking. with the mix i use, its only 85 calories per cupcake plus a few cals for the cool whip i top it with. they are sooo sooo good!! good luck, thats the hardest time of month for me too, but these substitutions always help me get through it. |

I am not buying any new clothes until I lose the weight either, unless its something i absolutely need, or unless i cant fit into my old clothes at all! When I get to my goal weight, my aunt is going to buy me a new wardrobe. For mini goals, I am just going to treat myself to little things i want -- im a poor student so i cant splurge too much! Right now, I'm thinking I want some new syrups for my lattes. Im running low on what I have, and I only have one flavour right now. |

Oh my gosh, so many things! Your body is probably in starvation mode! 1200 is the MINIMUM for women needed just to function, and with all that gymming in there you need way way WAY more than that! your body will cling to every calorie it gets if you continue like you are. I suggest you up your calories to at least 1600-1800, minimum. also, eat more than 200 calories for breakfast, start your day out right! even after all this is said, healthy weight loss is 1-2 pounds a week. some lose more than that in the beginning, but this shouldnt be done long term eg 3 pounds a week for 9 months. it is still possible at your weight, but i would settle for 1-2 pounds a week if i were you. also, with the weight training, you are converting fat into muscle, remember, and muscle weighs more than fat! I hope i helped! and remember to eat a few more calories. you dont have to eat 5 meals, just add in a few calories at each meal. with so few calories, it is near impossible for you to be consuming the nutrients your body needs if you do so much excercise! Good luck, you can do it! |

Nuts english muffins, peanut butter cereals HEALTHY granola bars -- not the sugary chocolate kinds! apples, grapes, carrots, celery. you dont have to keep your apples in the fridge. things like squash - even spaghetti squash -- can be made in the microwave. also potatoes, and many other veggies as well. hope that helps! |

for sweet cravings, i eat half a popsicle (30 calories) or a mini fudgsicle (45 calories) or some frozen yogourt or an apple or some grapes or the weight watchers choc cakes or i make myself a lowfat latte with my trusty espresso machine or regular yogourt or half an english muffin with a topping (can anyone say peanut butter?)
Salt cravings are the difficult things. I usually end up satisfying them with a pb english muffin in the end. actually i did buy some thin sliced cold cuts this week, and theyre working out pretty well for me. theyre only 9-10 calories per slice, depending on the type, so i have them on their own or on a carb of some sort. i am getting hummus and wraps this week so i plan on trying that out. |

I'm in Canada so I'm not sure, but I buy them at my regular grocery store. I have heard others complain about the size of them and that they taste processed, but theyre 90 calories, and thats only 10 more calories than like a regular oreo cookie or something and this is definitely bigger than those, and it has icing on top and evrything. i plan on trying the carrot cake soon. good luck! |

some things i take with me to class are: grapes (like you said) walnuts (or almonds or another healthy nut) mini pickles for a quick snack fix i personally like the weight watchers choc cake, high in fiber and kills those cravings in a flash there are so many other things i know you could take but i cant think of them at the moment. i like making little slices of tuna pie or something like that to take with me.
ps this post actually made me go and make a sandwich! i havent had one in forever and i just had to after reading it! good luck! |

Im nota teacher, but a university student, and i often have several hours of class in a row. One thing I really would suggest is nuts, if you can eat them at your school. they are healthy but pretty high cal! And they are really tasty. I think the juice thing is a good idea, or have a skinny latte from starbucks or something, because then youre getting all your vitamins and such from the milk in the latte - plus its delicious. not a coffee fan? try one of the tea drinks made with milk that a lot of coffee places have these days. that is, if there is a coffee place near you and you are willing to shell out a few bucks. Also, peanut butter is good, you can definitely get a few calories in there (about 100 in a tablespoon) -- again, if you can eat that at your school. try yogourt, thats really fast and healthy. what else can i tell you? there are many calorie dense foods such as potatoes or pasta, but i dont know if you would have time to eat even a small serving of one of those. only other thing i can think of, which has been mentioned, are granola bars -- something like luna bars but i personally cannot afford them. good luck, i really hope you put some of this topics suggestions to use, because i dont think eating the way you are is healthy!
PS, try munching on something while you wait for your photocopies;)

i just made this one up tonight and made it for dinner, but it is sooo a new fave! NOTE: this recipe is not very saucy, it is mostly spinach. If you are serving over pasta or rice, consider reducing the amount of spinach or try to keep your sauce on the thinner rather than thicker side. mock shrimp alfredo serves one: 212 calories, not including a carb to serve it with, not including the oil you use to fry the spinach 70 g fresh spinach, chopped, cooked in a dash of oil 70 g cooked, peeled shrimp 1/2 tbsp margarine garlic, to taste 1/2 tbsp flour 1/2 cup milk salt and pepper to taste some carb of your choice - this recipe is good on toast, pasta, rice, whatever fry the garlic in the butter until softened (garlic should not be brown at all). add the flour, cook, stirring, for 2 minutes. remove from heat whisk in the milk, pouring it in in a stream. when smooth, return to heat. cook until thickened, about 5-10 minutes. add in shrimp and spinach. NOTE: if youre having this on bread, you might want to chop up the shrimp. for pasta or rice, whole is fine. season with salt and pepper, mix well and until shrimp and spinach are heated through, and serve over the carb of your choice.
this recipe is sooooo good it tastes like fettucine alfredo, and its quite low cal. i even sprinkled a little parmesan on top of mine! enjoy! |

i know some of these have been said, but: good: intelligence -- but NOT making it obvious that he thinks hes smarter than you! (even if he really is) gentlemanliness. im not even kidding, i actually judge guys soo much depending on whether they hold the door open for me etc sensitivity: i mean, not necessarily a guy who writes me sonnets (though that would be divine) but he shouldnt be making me feel inferior because i have feelings -- if he tries to make me feel stupid for finding something touching or whatever, then he is soooo out the door! i dont want a macho macho man who acts like sensitivity is a weakness. paying for me! bad: potty mouth, but thats just me. honestly, if a guy cant utter a sentence without swearing it is just such a turn off living with his parents if he really SHOULD be out on his own --- im not talking about college guys or whatever, i mean this guy has a job and all and hes not even trying to get himself in a position to move out puts his friends above our relationship -- we need some time alone, and i will not accept him cancelling our dates to hang out with his friends -- yes i want him to hang out with them, but if we already have plans, then he shouldnt be cancelling them for his friends (unless its a very special situation like his best friends birthday or something) Obsession with sports: i say, sure have a healthy interest in sports, but that is NOT what i want to talk about all night, and if were in a restaurant or something where the game is on on a tv, he better be giving his attention to me and not the game -- otherwise why did he take me out in the first place?! |
