Weight Loss I need to lose 1kg in 1 week! Apr 22 2009

I usually weigh myself after a 3 mile run so I am generally quite dehydrated, so water loss isn't really an option.  I do generally weigh in in the evening though, and the weigh in for this Navy is in the morning.  Could this make enough of a difference?

My guess is that after that 3 mile run your muscles are stressed and retaining any water you have in your body.  And yes, a weigh in in the morning is ALWAYS much lighter for me than one in the evening.

Friday I wasn't too out of control, a couple handfulls of goldfish were all that was out of line, but saturday i had chic-fil-a and panera and booze and snacks galore :(  But yesterday was lazy sunday and i barely got out of bed (watching movies/reading/video games) and then I fell asleep early, and all i ate was some candy and goldfish crackers, so even though that wasn't healthy, I can't imagine having gone too crazy for the day, haha.

Today i stepped on the scale to see how much damage I did and i was at 144.8.  After all that salty food i ate this weekend, I'm not too upset about it.  This week a coworker's in town from california and usually he has us all out to eat and drinking, so I'm hoping to avoid too much damage, but it will be hard.

Here's today's plan:

B- toast w/jelly, yogurt

S-apple, carrots

L-Veggie soup

S-applesauce, celery

D- 4 oz pork tenderloin and veggie soup

That's ~1050 so I'll have room for some wine if I want it, or popcorn as a late night snack

Well, I ate a LOT of salt yesterday (pork in a sodium rich marinade, popcorn drenced in salt, etc).  Today is supposed to be my weekly weigh in but it was 146.6 (higher than last week and I'm positive I have a weekly deficit)  I'm sure this is water weight from being a bad girl so I'm going to cheat and use yesterdays weight as my weekly recorded weight.  I'll still put todays in the CC weight log, but on my spreadsheet I want to show progress, not back stepping!

Here's todays menu:

B- Toast w/jelly, yogurt (like always)

S- Apple and carrots

L - 1 slice pizza (provided by the company at a huge long meeting) and a bowl of veggie soup

S - Celery, cheerios, applesauce

D - Pork tenderloin, veggie soup (I still have another weeks worth of soup!  i'm starting to get bored with it haha)

I might have some wine while playing cards tonight, but I'd really rather not.  I'll make up an excuse or something while everyone's over haha!  White lies make the word go round, no?

Foods Is the sugar in fruit bad for you??? Jan 16 2009

Original Post by giasbash6260:

The sugar is fruit is processed the exact same way as regular sugar is processed in the body. The only things that make fruits different from straight up sugar is that fruit have vitamins, minerals & antioxidants. I personally do not eat fruit because sugar is not good for the body and I get my antioxidants from eating tons of vegetables!

Biology lesson!!  The body runs off of ATP (adenosine tri phosphate).  Your body stores about enough ATP to last you 7 seconds if you were suddenly deprived of all glucose in your body.  Your body makes ATP from glucose.

Your blood sugar is the amount of glucose chilling out in the blood.  When you eat a candy bar, it's full of glucose.  Nothing needs to be done to the glucose for your body to use it, so it goes straight to the blood stream.  That's why processed sugars will make your blood sugar rise so quickly.  When your body detects an abundance of the glucose, it releases insulin which creates that sugar crash that leaves you tired and hungry.  This is why most people avoid processed sugars while on a diet.  Processed carbs (like enriched flour) don't require much work from the body to convert it to glucose, so that's why they have a similar effect.

Fruits and veggies are full of fructose.  That's a different sugar than glucose, and your body needs to convert it before it's free to enter the blood stream so your body can create its ATP.  This is why fruits and veggies don't give you a sugar high and crash.  Also why they're much kinder to your pancreas (the organ that makes insulin).   Whole grains have a lot of indigestible fiber that your body has to break down to get at the "meat" of the grain in order to make ATP.  That's the reason whole grains don't have such a harsh impact on blood sugar.

You need to eat both grains and fruits/veggies because whole grain carbs, and fruit/veggie carbs(fructose) are different.  You need both fruits and veggies in your diet because they provide different minerals and vitamins that your body needs.

If you're interested in the impact that a certain food has on your blood sugar, check out it's glycemic index.  There are lots of sites on the web that have databases of the GI.

Hopefully this explains why diabetics have to have low sugar/carb diets as well as why it's okay to have lots of carbs if they're the good kind (good = takes a work to process).

It's been a while since I've taken bio, so I'm sure I'm leaving out cool facts, but the basic gist of energy creation in the body is there :P

speaking of us eating the same things over and over, the knorr teriyaki noodles are pretty amazing, and besides the high sodium, not too bad for a packaged food.  fairly balanced.  I wish they'd make a version with whole wheat noodles!

Oh no I don't.  I fail at weekends.  Weekdays are easy since I have a routine, haha.  It's fun seeing people who are close to my height/weight.  I'm only an inch (maybe a half inch)  taller than you.  But you have a MUCH larger chest than me, so I'm guessing the rest of you is way slimmer than me too, haha.

Can I join you?

I am 30 years old only 5 feet tall (on a good day, hehe)and 109.  I would like to lose 9 lbs to put me at my goal weight.

I do 1 hour of cardio 3-4 days a week and I weight train 2-3 days a week, with a full time retail job and a 2 1/2 year old it is hard to have any type of schedule!

My issue is I will eat well for a while, fruits, veggies no white flower, potatoes...and then I will have one of my daughters cookies...then I will have 10 of her cookies or a piece of cake at a birthday party turns into a night of raiding the pantry for anything sweet when i get home...so I would say self-control is my issues as well as the size of my butt!

I would love to be part of a group that will keep me on track. I have not read all the post yet but do you have a specific  weigh in day?

Of course you can join!  We don't have a specific weigh in day (we all sort of came in with different ones) but I think we're mentioning our weight on the day we chose for ourselves.

As for last night, I was perfect!  Only thing I did wrong was have one starburst! otherwise I stuck to what I said I was going to eat and drink and didn't go over.

When I got on the scale this morning I was rewarded with a beautiful number.  143!!!! And I know it's not my official weight for the week, but I do get an official weight tomorrow!  How much can I gain in 1 day?!

Today my meals are (also monotonous and the same everyday):

B-toast w/jelly, yogurt

S-celery,clementine

L-Veggie and tomato soup :)

S-applesauce, clementine

D-8 oz pork tenderloin, more veggie soup (gotta get rid of it!!)

Then I have ~150 calories to snack with to hit my 1200

To answer the actual question: very few, relative to others in my demographic. Something in the single digits. I am ugly and cowardly...or ugly and principled, if you care to spin it positively, or some combination of the two.

This lends to sex only as a statistical accident. Dating, too, but that's another story.

freedomfrom, i can assure you that you are not ugly.  There is someone out there who loves (or will love) every little thing about the way you look.  Gotta love yourself before you can let others love you though.

Now after this thread I'm sure everyone's ready for some self loving ;)

well i'm going to the comedy club tonight with some friends and a guy i'm interested in, so i've left room for 3 glasses of wine (spread out over ~4 hours)

B-Yogurt (forgot to buy more toast!)

S-Cheerios

L-Veggie Soup, 4oz pork tenderloin

S-Applesauce

D-Chicken stew

+ 3 glasses of wine

total: 1489

63 grams protein (a high for me.  I don't eat much meat)

22 grams fiber (still better than a lot of america)

Overall it's not my best day, but I'm still low on sodium and feel like I'm fairly balanced.

Let's see, I started when I was 19.  I'll have 20 years of sex when I hit 39.  I don't really see much of a point in mariage for myself since I don't want kids and it's very hard to find other men who don't want kids as well.  Maybe 39 is when I will get married cause I'll be getting close to too old for it.  So that's 20 years of dating with an occasional hook up.  I could see myself easily getting to numbers close to mooni's by that time (as long as I get out of small town life soon, like I'm trying!)  That would be an average of 4 partners a year, which I don't consider time consuming or slutty in the least. 5 partners and I'll have hit tripple digits.  That definately doesn't require one night stands at all.  That could easily be relationships or friends with benefits or something continual with at least some sort of connection.  So unless you plan to get married in your twenties (which I find WAY too young!) you might actually hit one of those higher numbers that you're so judgemental of yourself.

My question is: At what number do people stop counting?  Cause at a point you've got to stop thinking to yourself "well, I really like this guy and we've been hitting it off recently, and i'm horny as hell, but he's going to be number X, and I'm not sure I'm ready to count another number"

So I don't think i met a single goal for the weekend :(  I'm still down from when I started a week ago, but only 2lbs (It was my first week of dieting.  I lost a lot of water weight and was down 5 lbs before the weekend)

I know a lot of that is water weight again from drinking, fried, and salty foods.  I also know I still had a deficit throughout the week, just not as large a deficit as I may have hoped for.

Good news though: Some pants that had grown uncomfortable around the waistline fit perfectly again!  Also, my favorite work slacks look much better as well.

I give blood today, so I'm not having a diet day, more of a maintain day.  Drinking water is my goal for the day!

B- toast w/ jelly, yogurt

S- Carrots

L-Tomato Soup

S-Apple

L2-Veggie Soup (Two lunches today for post blood donation)

S-Clementines

D-Chicken Stew

but I dont know if i could ever have casual sex or a one night stand.  doesnt having a person you care about make it better?

yes and no on this point.  In general I prefer an ongoing sexual relationship with people. I like learning and experimenting and knowing someone's body and what reactions they'll have to my touch.  I like when we instinctively know what the other person wants without always having to tell each other.  There is something special and amazing about a sexual relationship like that.

On the other hand, I have had 2 one night stands, and my first was AMAZING.  There's something completely amazing and freeing about knowing you'll never see that person again.  You have great sex, do things you wouldn't normally do, and then you cherish it in memory and don't have to try and recreate it ever.

Now the second o.n.s. was with a friends little brother, so that wasn't quite the same experience, but totally worth it too :)

I also would not have enjoyed a o.n.s. before I learned how to play with myself.  Iwas raised in a christian household and trained to believe that girls shouldn't do that.  Well they were wrong.  If for no other reason, you should do it so you can tell your husband what you like on your wedding night so it's not a flop (assuming you wait till marriage).  It gives you confidance and makes it more fun for both you and whatever guy (or gal) you choose to share yourself with :)

well i left my lunch and snacks at the fridge at home.  I have some clementines on my desk and just had some toast with jelly.  Hopefully I'll make it till noon without being too hungry and digging into my peanut butter in the desk drawer.  I ate too little yesterday cause I forgot till I finished my chores at 1am and by then i was too tired to eat my soup, but I know I'm gonna go crazy this weekend with a friend in town and then my dad in town sunday, so I'm not too worried.  Next week I need to work harder.

My meal if all goes according to plans:

B- Toast w/ jelly and coffee

S - Clementines

L - Chicken Stew

S - Cheerios, celery, pineapple, yogurt, applesauce

D - unknown, but it will be at a restaurant and not a salad

+ too much booze, haha, but it's the weekend!!

it might just be genetics, but it's supposed to be rally good to have a big difference between your waist and hips, healthwise.  I'm gonna go searching for where i've heard that before!

edit:

http://www.healthstatus.com/cgi-bin/calc/calc ulator.cgi:

christined24 - You have a waist to hip ratio of 0.74. The information you entered: Sex = Female, waist = 28 inches and hip = 38 inches.

Your shape puts you at reduced risk of coronary heart disease, diabetes and stroke. Frequently referred to as pear shape, you tend to keep fat off your midsection and more on your hips. Your body does not convert this lower body fat as readily as midsection fat, which keeps cholesterol down.

from wikipedia:

Studies show that 80 percent of women over the age of 18 have a WHR of at least 0.9[citation needed]. This is a 40 percent increase since 2002, and it keeps increasing. A WHR of 0.7 for women and 0.9 for men have been shown to correlate strongly with general health and fertility. Women within the 0.7 range have optimal levels of estrogen and are less susceptible to major diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disorders and ovarian cancers.[3] Men with WHRs around 0.9, similarly, have been shown to be more healthy and fertile with less prostate cancer and testicular cancer.[4]

WHR has been found to be a more efficient predictor of mortality in older people than waist circumference or body mass index (BMI)[5]. If obesity is redefined using WHR instead of BMI, the proportion of people categorized as at risk of heart attack worldwide increases threefold.[6]

D - Veggie Soup

This is less than 800.  I need to figure out more to eat when I get home tonight, though I'm sure I'll want to chow down while watching the new grey's and private practice! I'm lacking in some protein, so maybe I'll get a grilled chicken filet at chick-fil-a on the way home.  SO good!

This weekend is going to be hard, as I'll have company in town.  I'm giving blood on monday, so my rules for myself include:

~No fried food

~For every alcoholic beverage i need a full glass of water

~No candy or popcorn at the movies.  Bring my own popcorn!

I'm 23y/o and still in the single digits, but I'm finding that each new person has something new to teach me and ends up being better than the last.  Not to say that I'm going to walk around looking for new partners every weekend (I like the guys you can keep around for a while) but I'm definately glad I didn't marry the same man I lost my virginity to like I had planned on.  Him and I were not a good match and it showed up in our sex life and I was just too young (19) and inexperienced to know it.

Actually, the only "page-y" thing about it is the part down the middle haha!  Short hair is great!  You can completely change your look by moving your part or making your bangs go to the side for a day.  I can't wait to cut mine short again!

My weigh in's have been set for friday's, since that's when I took my starting weight :)  I have this really awesome spreadsheet and charts linked in my profile where i enter my daily deficit's and my weeky weight and it's calculating expected losses and graphing it next to real losses, then another chart that only shows my weekly weights.  I like to use the chart on CC to show my "good" weights, haha!

The radio station's morning show here was asking about people doing diet plans after the holidays and I called in and told them about CC, so they want to check in with me and see how long it takes me to reach my goal (or if it's even possible! Little do they know it totally is) so I created a google doc that they could look at :)

Yeah, small town's don't have much to talk about besides people losing weight.  I've also won prizes on the morning show twice now cause no one's really calling in, haha!

Here's my plan for the day:

B: Toast with jelly, yogurt, coffee, vitamins

S: Cherries(they totally had some ripe ones in town from chile!!), apple

L: Chicken Stew

S: Apple sauce, cheerios, celery

D: Veggie soup (low cal and HUGE portions!)

If I'm still hungry at the end of the day I might have a 100 cal portion of tomato soup or some beef boullion.  I find that sometimes hunger is more about just wanting a different taste in your mouth or thirst.

Overall it's 1250-1350 calories.  Not too bad :)  I've already lost some water weight and feel less bloated, plus I took my starting weight when it was that TOM to make me feel like I was accomplishing something soon (I know it's cheating, but it totally works!!)

Well, I actually over (or is it under) achieved today.  I only got in ~1000 calories and I'm really full.  I think that since company will be in town this weekend, I won't worry about eating while full (bad habit anyway) and I'll feel less guilty about those glasses of wine I know I'll have this weekend!

Amazingly I got all the fiber, vitamins, and protein I needed for the day.  Maybe that's why I'm full so early?

Already have my food planned, packed, and cooked for tomorrow and I'll def be over 1200!  All I gotta do is microwave it :)

Time to do chores then go to bed.  Do chores count as exercize?  Mopping and Vaccuming totally should!

Edit: Also, I don't really know how the group thing works, but maybe we should start one of those and have a thread for meals, thread talking about exercize, thread asking for reccomendations?
