Young Calorie Counters I can't stand some of these topics. Oh and.... May 06 2008

Touchy Subject.

I have to agree with certain aspects, though. This is a forum for overweight individuals, right? I'm usually a Fitness Troll, since I really am only maintaining. But, being that I'm sixteen, I do wander a bit in here. There's a lot of estrogen in here, so I usually stay clear.

So it's a forum for people trying to lose weight. Overweight individuals. And, bless their hearts, they're doing a hellova good job losing weight. But, seriously, a few of the posts here are depressing. If I was trying to lose twenty pounds or more, I'd find a lot of the topics disheartening.

I do think that a lot of individuals on here have very unrealistic goals. But what can be done? I certainly can't change a single one of them. My two cents is exactly that. Two cents.

Kumi's right.

For what it's worth.

I'm in good shape. My BF% is 17.5, I'm an athlete...but I can't manage a bikini.

But I'm fine with that. I'm not model material, but I've always put health over beauty.

keira knightley is 23 years old.  she's made ten movies in the last three years; i challenge anyone to try to gain weight on that kind of work schedule.  she'll gain weight as she gets older, don't worry.

actors are artists, and artists are almost always neurotic.  that doesn't mean that they all have eating disorders, but it does mean that they're not the norm.  the best policy is to look at them as you would a work of art; it you can appreciate the aesthetic value (not just visual), great.  otherwise, don't look.

keira knightley is gorgeous because she can act.  cate blanchet is gorgeous because she can act.  jessica biel - she's just a skinny chick.

I agree.

I live an average life, and watching what I eat and such is hard enough. Imagine being an actress. I certainly can't even fathom what kind of stress that is.

I don't bash celebrities. I feel bad for the lot of 'em. It's hard being under a social microscope 24/7 . I'm not saying eating disorders are acceptable, but I know we're all just folk. I have no idea how I'd behave when put under that kind of stress. If I was expected to be perfect by the media, I'd probably be standing in front of that mirror, pinching flesh as I blush over the shot they got me in my bathing suit.

I think people get too worked up over celebrities. They're talented folk. But I sure as hell wouldn't want their job. Never.

I've tried it in a class at my gym. It was a pilates class that incorperated the bender ball.

I think it's a must-have. And it made normal pilates exercizes more challenging and fun.

Young Calorie Counters I'm 17 almost 18 and my boyfriend is 16 Apr 15 2008

I'm in the same boat. Well, in a different way.

The guy I adore is +3 years older than me. So that sets him at nineteen, and I'm nearly seventeen (five months to go). I'm also graduating High School early since I'm doing my junior and senior year in one year. I'm very mature for my age, as well.

Yes, but it's socially looked down upon. But I know other couples that have a three year difference, and they're in their twenties/thirties and nobody seems to have trouble with that.

So you're not alone. It seems age difference in the teens is very exaggerated.

okay... maybe im being negative... *gulp*... but its depressing me that i come to read this thread, hoping to hear from girls who are overweight, being positive about their bodies, and instead... its a bunch of skinny teenage girls talking about how much they love themselves for the most part, and some of them sound downright concieted...

this just depressed me more than i was already... im sorry if its wrong of me to feel this way, im not trying to offend anyone at all! im just being very honest in saying i think there should be a completely different forum for girls who are currently or formerly anorexic/bulemic... it does little for the self esteem and realistic goals of girls who are overweight... quite frankly it makes me feel like maybe i should just go throw up my lunch so i can be skinny too...

im sorry if this is rude, but i dont feel comfortable sharing my concerns with being overweight, with a bunch of girls who are literally half my size...

Aww, I'm sorry. Looking back at the thread in a different light...you're kind of right. It does look that way, doesn't it?

I'm not overweight, I'm only here to maintain, but I'm certainly not skinny. I have cellulite, and parts of my body that I don't like looking at. I've never had an eating disorder, and I've had to drop twenty pounds (It's only a wee bit, I know), to participate in the sports I enjoy.

So I'm sorry if I upset you. I didn't mean to discourage you at all. It's not rude =)

And I totally agree with you. There really should be a whole different forum for those recovering from eating disorders, because the journeys back to a healthy weight are vastly different from the two ends of the spectrum.

Really, though, I'm sorry you're upset.

Clean, masculine....

What more could I want?

No make up, please. I don't even wear it...often. Once or twice every few months for special occasions. If he's worried about how he looks, and has to cake on a mask before looking at me straight...he's not the guy for me.

Other than that....I'm easy to please. Take care of yourself, smell good, and look good. Don't wear your sister's jeans, and keep your pants up. Wear appropriate clothing that isn't trashy, an ode to a gangster, and please....cut your hair...or...at least...manage to keep it out of your eyes.

You know. Simple stuff. Look good, keep it simple. Clean cut guys get me every time. I don't mean primpy, preppy, or prissy. I just mean, guys that shave, keep their hair somewhat neat, smell good, and wear clothing that a) Fits them b)Is clean, and c) is appropriate

and to add to that ^ i love watching guys do their jobs lol. yeah, weird. i mean not like picking up garbage or driving a truck, but this one guy i work with is really cute. and it's like an italian ice place and watching him serve people and get the stuff is just fun to watch. like seeing him interact with the people buying it too.

and even when i go to random stores i like watching guys do their jobs and stuff, like at the registers in the grocery store haha. but i hate to be shallow, but i won't pay attention to the guys working unless they're cute. lol sorry.

idk, i guess it's kind of a psychological attraction, like noting how they act with others and things like that.

You're not strange. I'm the same way. Especially watching him interact with other people.

The seriousness is very attractive, too. When a guy is serious and intent on something important to him.

And uniforms are always a plus, so long as the guy who is wearing it is fit and trim ~_^

Strangest?

Ears. Can you believe that? The guy I adore has the cutest ears. I didn't really pay attention to ears before him.

His hands and back are a big thing too. Like Bonita said, a smooth, tight back is amazing.

Warm hands are another thing. It's not strange, though.

"Juheira" was derived from "Jaheira" in Baulder's Gate, a game I played as a kid.

I always loved that name, and it stuck with me.

I used to use the name "Emowen" which was inspired by "Imoen" from Baulder's Gate as well. But an Emo band came out with that name a few years after I started using it...so I ditched that name shortly after.

Not as interesting as I'd hope.

Querty, you amuse me.

Wow, I'm going to come across very arrogant.

Handstands. Those took forever. A lot of falling on your face. I can do back handsprings, too. My cartwheels look like crap, though. I never could pull one off "Gracefully".

I'm a martial artist. So calisthenics, weight lifting, and cardiovascular training come pretty easy to me. Only through years of training, gallons of sweat, and pure determination.

Don't ask me to dance, though. I have two left feet. It doesn't matter. Ballet, ball room dancing, even aerobics. It's not footwork that gets me, really. It's relaxing and getting into the beat. I'd rather do a sparring match. That's my kind of dance.

And I don't do dresses or heels, unfortunately. I nearly twisted an ankle last time I tried heels. And, dresses make me feel funny. I have very athletic thighs..so...yeah. I feel like a beast in a dress.

And art. I mean, anything that isn't calligraphy. It's another thing I can't do. At all. Stick figures, my friend, is the extent of my artistic skills.

There, I feel satisfied now that I balanced that out a bit. I don't feel like I can list strengths without listing weaknesses.

Oooh! How interesting!

I've had rose water at a Moroccan restaurant. It was a sweet drink made of rose extract, water, and sugar. That was the most bizarre drink I've ever tasted, but I enjoyed every drop of it.

You don't guzzle such a drink. I found I had to savor every light sip.

Eating flowers, though, that's new for me. But, hey, I try most things at least once!

Lol.

I'm amused.

When I first got into a debate with pgeorgian, I thought "What an ass."

Of course, this was before I realized that I was being way too sensative, and that almost everything she says makes sense. We don't agree on every little detail, but I still enjoy to hear what she has to say. It actually makes me second-take what I believe. And that makes me a better person in the long run.

Now I knew where all the common sense went in this world. Pgeorgian stole it from everyone ~_^

So, Fightegirl, my dear. With all kind of love and sympathy, understand that not everyone can swallow Pgeorgian in one shot. It took me a few doses.

Nobody wants to attack you and your boyfriend. We just all have opinions, and are ready to voice them, whether or not everyone agrees mutually.

And that's why I'm becoming addicted to this forum Wink

Sweet intillectual exposure.

Original Post by pgeorgian:

this topic makes me laugh.  if you're 18 (or 16 or 20) and your boyfriend is 30, and you have "everything in common" it's probably because your boyfriend stopped maturing 10 or 12 years ago.  that's all well and good now, but if you think he's going to magically start maturing to keep up with you, you're probably going to be disappointed.

gypsie, the situation in your family is a little different: by 40 and 60, hopefully both partners are adults.  but yeah, i sure wouldn't want to be in my 60s and married to an octogenarian.

anyway, i'm pretty sure that juhiera is talking about a two or three year difference between teenagers, which isn't a big deal, especially because they're not likely thinking in terms of marriage.

Nah, I meant all around. I wanted to hear everyone's take on things. Marriage or not.

Hah. I guess I'm a bit screwed up in the head then ;-)

Good to know though. That definitely answered my questions. I am progressing, and working to the point where there's no way I can pick up that weight one more time.

Haha, and Melkor, those stability balls are tricky. They've sent me on my bum more than once. And, what's even better, is the first time I said "This is too easy" and then suddenly I got a face full of linoleum.

Got a big ego? Try a few exercises on the balance ball. It'll bring you right back to where you should be. Or, at least, closer.
