i puree it in the blender and use it for everything... in place of mayo in tuna or crab salad, mixed with ranch seasoning as a dip for veggies, warmed with pasta as a sauce, on baked potatoes in place of sour cream, etc. i like it better than ff yogurt... i was using plain lowfat yogurt in everything but decided to go fat free on dairy, and i like the pureed ff cottage cheese better than ff yogurt.... |

i do the same thing with the same kind of contacts! another bad habit i have is right before the year is up for my prescription, i go stock up on them so sometimes i make it another entire year before i have to go back for another eye exam, since i wear each pair for about a month. |

restless girl, seriously, i went on a chicken strip, cheeseburger, french fry and chinese food tear in the last 2 weeks that was unbelievable. and ate way too much high fiber cereal too! AND THIS MORNING MY SCALE BROKE!!!!! can't complain, it's over 5 years old. i think i broke it when i was trying to weigh my dog. i needed to weigh him because he's still growing, is only 10 months old, and i needed to know his weight for the vet so i could get his heartworm pill and advantix. well he's around 75 lbs these days, and i guess that plus my weight (i was holding him, you know the "weigh yourself with the dog, then without, subtract the two and get his weight" method) and our combined weight must have been too much for my scale. i'm going to have to start just taking him with me when i go to get his med's, and let the vet weigh him. hopefully i'll have time to get another one before monday, meanwhile i need to stick to the plan extra-well since i won't be able to weigh! |

| Motivation | staying motivated is hard. am i the only one? | Sep 04 2008 14:38 (UTC) |

i struggle with motivation too. i'll be "good" and lose 5 or 10 lbs, then slack off and maintain, or worse, gain. i agree with an above poster that motivation is very personal. i found recently that joining one of the weight-loss challenges helped me alot; i was able to stick with the plan for much longer when i was logging on every day to see how the others in my challenge were doing, and provide and receive motivational messages and feedback. maybe that would help you. i'd read some of the challenge messages first. i find i do better with one where people respond to your negative days too.... i have joined exercise challenges where when i post about struggling with motivation, i get nothin'. i suppose it's people concentrating on the postive and that's great for them, but i struggle so much with motivation i prefer threads where people are comfortable talking about the days or moments you are not motivated, instead of just ignoring posts about it. you just have to find the group that provides the kind of support you are looking for. and then when you find yourself logging on and giving support, too, that is motivating as well. sort of a "yay, we can do this together!" kind of a thing. |

white pasta, which i avoid like the plague anyway. switched to whole wheat pasta a couple years ago. and popcorn... and i mean the "healthy" diet packs. i'm sure they're packed with sodium and that's why i see the scale jump, but i'm not a huge popcorn fan anyway... i just ate it in the past because it's supposed to be filling and low-cal. but i haven't had popcorn in over a year because i don't like it enough to have to see the water-weight-gain on the darn scale the next morning! |

| Weight Loss | when do you stop feeling fat | Sep 03 2008 14:35 (UTC) |

ok, i've got about 40 lbs to lose now but in the past i got down to 125 and maintained for 7 years.... so here's what i remember. there will be days you feel fat, that's just the way we are, i think :) but other days you will see yourself in the mirror and notice how slim your neck and face are, or you will hand someone something, happend to look at your hand and notice how much smaller your wrist and fingers are... and then there's shopping. i'm not a fan of shopping, but walking into the store and having so many things look so much better on you than they used to, that's priceless. maybe you should go window-shopping and try some stuff on, and admire all the progress you've made. kudo's to you for losing FIFTY LBS!! whoo hoo! that is awesome, you have accomplished a great deal. don't be discouraged, the rest will come off, and meanwhile i am willing to bet you feel loads better, are healthier, and are alot happier with the person in the mirror. |

Age: 37 1/9/08: 169 i'm just gonna say it... my sis is in from out of town this weekend, and i only see her every couple years... my first weigh-in may not be pretty, as i will have to concentrate extra hard to make sure i get my water and exercise while she is here for 4 days. i'm sure my mind will be on girl-talk and not so much on cc'ing... |

will you have a fridge? i love blue diamond's sweetened vanilla almond milk. and with grocery prices being high these days, at least where i live, i don't think the diff between that and regular milk is significant. and i don't know where you live, but there's a hy-vee grocery store in my area that has a veggie/natural foods section, and they have a store-brand of soy-milk, etc, that is cheaper than the name-brands. |

| Weight Loss | Is it possible to REALLY eat what you want when losing weight? | Aug 31 2008 15:17 (UTC) |
|
i agree that the key is moderation. when i get "serious" and only eat "healthy" foods for 5 or 8 or 14 days, i feel great, and that's what i want to eat, sooner or later though i have a big mac attack or a wendy's bacon-cheeseburger-episode or something. so currently i'm trying to eat the good-for-me stuff 75% of the time and incorporate some of the bad-for-me stuff that i crave as well, to avoid a binge. and count the calories for both. i suggest you try something new on a regular basis. i buy one thing i haven't tried before, and i do it twice a month on payday :) i tried quinoa, and now i buy it on a regular basis. bulgur was one of my "tries" and i now buy it a couple times a year.... all the recipes you find for it say to serve it like pilaf, but i make it as a hot cereal for breakfast with fruit and nuts. this month i tried pb2 (a powdered peanut butter with little fat) and agave nectar. mixed feelings on the pb2 but i for sure will be buying agave nectar on a regular basis, it tastes a little lighter than honey but the kind i got has the kinda smoky taste that real maple syrup has, it's mild and versatile and better for ya than white sugar or equal. haha and failures on my "new food" experiments... bf and i bought this enormous mutant papaya thing and it tasted ok but smelled like someone's hiney.... i could not get past the smell and after it sat in the fridge for 2 weeks already peeled and looking so pretty and healthy, i threw the whole thing out. oh, and i think it's morningstar who makes the spicy black bean burgers, those are yummy as are their sausages, and since it's healthier than the real thing but really still a processed food, it kinda helps on those days you feel like if you choke down one more piece of freaking broccoli you're going to gag... btw i used to like salads but this year they have no appeal, so i'll chop up a cucumber and have it with some baby carrots and make my own dip from yogurt, garlic salt and dill. you don't have to eat salads to get your veggies. and ranch dressing is fatty anyway, why eat it if you don't like it. |

Name: Liz 8/1/08: 168.8 i could talk about the WHY of the last almost 2 weeks of not sticking to anything, but it's not the why that matters, it's that i didn't stick to it. i will take 2 successes away from this month's challenge... i was able to stick to my exercise, food and water goals for over 2 weeks, longer than ever so far, and i am STILL under 170, so i did not go over it. i got under 170 right before this challenge and so am happy to still be under it at least. and i credit this challenge with helping me stick to things longer, so i am REALLY hoping that you do another one, restless girl, you rock! on to september, hopefully this month i can stick to my goals for 3 weeks, instead of a little more than 2 weeks! thank you claire!! |

lol, my bf came back from a business trip to germany raving about spaetzle, so for me it was off to search the internet for recipes. i've made it a few times now but i don't have a spaetzle maker.... so i use a flat cheese grater resting on the pot of boiling water, and it's a HUGE mess! but he loves it, so i try to make it maybe once a month. |

did w2d2 this morning. usually i run by myself, i find it therapeutic. but i met a friend at a local track after warning her i'm slow and doing this c25k thing. i usually run on the road which i do prefer; the track was a nice change because it was flat. i felt kind of bad because my friend had to go alot slower than she would otherwise, but it was nice to have company and be able to talk while we ran. plus i don't know that i would have gone today had i not been meeting someone; i was feeling pretty lazy this morning! one more run/walk for week 2, then i get to start week 3, yay! |

hey you guys! i lost some steam this week but am determined to get my mojo back this next week! had a busy family-filled weekend, a busy start to the week, only exercised twice (yoga saturday morning and couch-to-5k today) and have some run-in's with the drive-through. my weight went up 5 lbs for 2 days! but it must have been water-weight because i have been at 166.6 for the last 3 days. that is only 1.2 lbs up from my last weigh-in, so i guess i should count myself lucky, considering how i went about things this week. i have two nights and one day left til weigh-in and am hoping concentrating on veggies and getting another run in tomorrow will help me. hey, maybe my body NEEDED a break. we'll see! hope everyone else is doing great! |

| Weight Loss | After Losing Weight, How are People Treating You Differently? Good or Bad? | Aug 19 2008 23:55 (UTC) |
2 |
i agree with both sides of what people have posted so far. heck yeah you get treated differently when you lose weight. and part of it, for me at least, is that i feel better about myself because 1) of what i'm doing to be healthy, and 2) because i see results. so i'm 100% sure i present myself differently, which is part of it. i like the positive attention, don't get me wrong, but what i don't like is the increasing number of strange men who leer at me. you know the type, they stare, trying to make eye contact. creepy! and it's not like i'm wearing a miniskirt and halter top... i wear jeans and a tshirt to work. nothing tight or lowcut, not provocative at all. and on a dressy day i'll wear sandals instead of flip-flops. hate the creepy leer-ers. side-note relating to the leer-ers: have to say one of my favorite comments from a stranger happened when i was out walking, it was when my weight was on the way up and i was trying to nip it in the bud. anyhoo, i walked past this little old man and as i passed i heard him say "who said white girls ain't got no back?!" lol he cracked me up, it was funny. that time i didn't mind. |

some of this is a repeat, but i always keep on hand: dairy and eggs: lowfat yogurt by the quart, eggs, 1 package of good cheese preferably blue cheese (i keep it in the freezer and grate it on foods, i use less then), 0-calorie butter spray, produce and fridge stuff: baby carrots, celery, cucumbers and tomatoes (those two from the garden right now!), onions and potatoes, apples and banans, lemon juice, strawberry all-fruit, dill relish, yeast, pantry: whole wheat pasta, two or three kinds of dried beans but always lentils, a grain (usually brown rice or bulgur), olive oil, 0-calorie cooking spray, walnuts, lawry's garlic salt, tomato sauce and tomato paste, honey, whole wheat and white flour, and cornmeal. and peanut butter for emergencies :)

restless girl, my friends tease me because i love beans so much, i'll make a bean soup and eat it at my desk for lunch. they think it's funny. and lentils are my favorite legume! but i have not managed to go totally veg yet. i'm down to meat twice a week right now. i have been checking my protein and i'm getting plenty, there were a couple days it might have been low but i've been hitting the eggs the last couple days to make up for it. i have tried some of the veggie sausages and stuff in the past, i should stock up on some for cravings. and omg i was laughing at your fast food suggestions, i will have to try them! you hang in there with your good attitude girl, you have accomplished alot and a loss is still a loss. i don't have to weigh-in yet becausei get to sleep soon, and then it will be friday here, yay! good luck to everyone!!! i probably won't post til late tomorrow, have a long day coming up. |
