Well I wouldn't follow a schedule like starbunny suggested. To be honest, colleges are more likely to accept students with less than a 4.0 but were involved with sports, extracurriculars, jobs, volunteer work, etc something that showed they had a life. As long as you take good classes (try AP, you WONT regret it I would fail at college without knowledge about writing essays and the work ethic) it's not that big of a deal as long as you make As and Bs (the occasional C won't kill you either if its a hard class). I got a 3.5 weighted and was accepted to every public school in my state and a couple good out of state ones (with a scholarship) while playing varsity sports, editor on the newspaper, volunteering, and marching band. My school had 16 valedictorians, none of them actually got to have a speech. All I know is that high school is the time of LESS stress, COLLEGE is when the stress begins. So why start stressing in high school, or middle school for that matter?? |

1. don't skip- ever 2. do all your homework, ALL of it 3. study 4. ASK FOR HELP thats all you really need. And why I only got a 3.5 in high school...but when you get to college none of it really matter anyways :D |

Well being that there are way more people losing weight the normal way than on a diet pill... which are those even effective? I don't think they're that harmful, just pointless. The ones that DID work like ephedra, crack, meth, are illegal now anways, haha. I remember before I found this site I went down this aisle that had all sorts of diet pills and ended up buying hoodia. i had like five days and i realized it was pointless. Plus, if those pills actually worked wouldn't there not be an obesity problem? yeah..thats what i thought... |

| Fitness | Protein powders -- a "jock's" perspective | Aug 26 2008 07:37 (UTC) |

Soy protein doesn't do as much as whey does in building muscles I believe, since whey is the athlete's protein of choice. Soy is the vegans/vegetarians protein of choice when you just need to get that extra protein in your body. I imagine hemp is like that too. I have had egg protein powder before and it tends to be less caloric and more protein dense than whey. Well I use the trader darwin's egg and milk protein so it is not for the lactose intolerant. It has 100 calories (for 2 scoops), 23 grams of protein and 65 mg sodium. It also has a ton of vitamins and stuff. I'm going to go check out the rating of it. I have used their chocolate whey powder before and its more calories and about the same with protein. I'm sure there are better ones though, I'm not the guru of powders. They had a link at bodybuilding.com about them and I'll try to go find it. |

So have they at least heard of a bikini wax?? Do they think that guys (or people in general) find hair popping out the swimsuit attractive? I use the hand dryer to dry my hair...on my head...lol that would be awkward, I had a teacher in middle school (PE) who would get completely naked and take a shower while everyone else showered in a swimsuit. And she would try and have conversations with a bunch of 12-13 year old girls and SHE didn't shave and I still remember that today!!!! Wrong. |

Original Post by glamgram: WTF are you like the forum mom or something? They were asking a question about calories, not wanting your judgement on their life, Jesus. To answer the original poster hard alcohols tend to have less calories than beers and margaritas. Light beers are usually 100-110 calories or so. If you're looking for the buzz without the calories I would go for something with vodka or rum. Mixed drinks tend to be way more fattening cause of all the added sugar. (edit:change text) If you order drinks at the bars try ones that are mixed with fruit juice, those tend to be better than ones with chocolate, or other sweeteners. And YES I'm 20 and I drink, bite me. |

Original Post by mrneville: Well the way the younger generation is, it's not so much as weight, it's how you carry yourself and what you wear at your weight. Even the less judgemental people aren't fond of people who wear clothes that are too tight, and yes I think all of us are guilty of that :/ I was listening to the radio the other day talking about how they were trying to bring short shorts back (for dudes running) and to which the MEN (not even the women) complained how "gay" it was to show off the legs (for men). So I understand your point, though I don't think we're homophobic, as much as we are way less politically correct. (edit: changed phrase) Polls have shown that younger people actually are more open to homosexuality than their parents, and we're more accepting. |

Well And I know it's harsh but most females I know don't mind guys in speedos...as long as they can pull it off, like Michael Phelps for example :) but the majority of us don't want to see someone 60 with a gut hanging over wearing one. But then again I don't bother going swimming so I really could care less what you guys wear. |

| Motivation | For those of you who stay at the gym past an hour.... | Aug 21 2008 09:21 (UTC) |

Sometimes I'm there for an hour and 30 min...but I also sometimes shower when I go with a friend so of course some of that time doesn't really count...well I usually kick my butt with weight lifting first, and since there are breaks it takes me 30-45 minutes to complete it. Then I do my cardio, for 30-40 minutes and then I do some abs depending on my mood. My male friend plays basketball games, lifts weights, and swims so thats why i end up staying so long since hes my gym buddy. My tips are BREAKS, water breaks, going to the bathroom, and HAVING AN IPOD cause gym music usually sucks :/ :) |

Ummmm what are you trying to accomplish? Gaining weight? Cause unless you're an olympic athlete you WILL gain weight from that much. But you're posting in health and support, so are you underweight and need to gain weight? Tell us a lil about yourself cause I don't know where you're going with this. |

Gymnastics is a performance, landing on your knees and all sorts of errors like Feis, is NOT deserving of a metal. She has done better routines without errors. Dragulescu didn't receive a metal, so thats pretty off the point. Sacramone performed an easier routine, but she did it better than Fei, though overall she isn't a better gymnast...Alicia has fallen and didn't place high and I'm not complaining about that. And way to put words in my mouth...ummm whoever performs better in my opinion deserves to win. It doesn't matter if its the US, though I of course hope they perform better. I usually cheer for Serbia anyways and the US when Serbia doesn't make it (which is most of the time) because of my family. And bringing up the whole China/US issue? Give me a break I wouldn't care if it was Russia/France/ the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. And I don't really watch mens gymnastics as much. I haven't been able to see all the games and if there was another stupid tie-issue I would have been annoyed at that too. And so what I cheer for America??? Don't be hatin' cause your country didn't make it :( |

6'9??? I wonder how tall the other players are. I totally thought Serbia was gonna win game three too, I was thinking it would be a game over. But it was a good series. I can't wait to see the one vs Россия on Friday!!! I thought Chris Daughtry had a lot of hair and wasn't shaved, but maybe im thinking of someone else :/ |

I actually agree with the OP here and find it funny, I used to go to the gym in the morning or afternoon and since going at night I see a lot of people my age so that hardly happens! I really don't get why it's the older women age group as opposed to the younger ones...I guess we're "prudes", though I change in front of friends or whatever all the time I usually keep underwear on at least, and when I'm at the gym I used to be a hider haha but now I just kind of let it drop, change, and then am out. When I used to go to the gym when I was younger and there was a sauna, and saw people sitting NAKED in the sauna. Being a young teenager I was pretty judgemental and traumatized by the over-nakedness. But yeah I agree, no one really wants to see someone bending over the sink painting their toes naked or whatever, lol. (waiting for the males to come prove me wrong on this one) |

Ok, well one, you're taking a good step by coming on this website. The people here are motivational so that is good that you want to lose weight. But your problems....all the excuses. "slow metabolism" "no time to go to the gym" and I'm not saying that I'm a perfect person cause I've made the excuses too, but seriously you WONT lose weight by using excuses. If you REALLY want to lose weight you WILL lose weight. You have to want it and not be complacent with how things are now. All you really need is a treadmill and weights! The fitness moderators on this forum have a bunch of great advice and there are a lot of free resources for weightlifting. You have to get through this yourself, even with people here who can help you, you have to want help. You can do it! |

Original Post by p0nda: No, if you've been watching gymnastics it's obvious that the judges have made pretty "vile" calls and after watching it with a former olympic gymnast (my second cousin), and with commentary by former gymnasts on the news who also agreed with me, gymnastic judging is ridiculous this year. The girl who landed on her KNEES beat out Alicia Sacramone for the bronze. They have given China wayyy more grace than anyone from Russia/US. They should have a judge from each country who is performing...not just judges from countries who don't have members on the elite level. Well I feel that gymnastics is more of a competition than a sport. Track doesn't have subjective judging- you win or you lose. Football/basketball, etc are sports. Is ballet a sport, or dance? Doesn't mean that there's anything wrong with gymnastics, I just think of it of more than a dance/performance than a sport. It's just soooo subjective, but calling it a competition is not an insult. Gymnasts and dancers work very hard making it more entertaining to watch than some sports...(mainly soccer :/ boring....) Seriously though calm down, it's the internet there's no reason to get super angry over a post. I'm not putting down gymnasts, just the judges who suck and make lousy judgements :/ Nothing is wrong with me, it's just a different opinion...something that you should encounter more than once in your lifetime. |

Oh man He whatever getting the gold was such crap. I thought Yang Ye lin (sp?) did better than her...and the whole tie-breaker thing was dumb. Plus the judges were mainly from places like South Africa/Canada/New Zealand (wtf) which suck at gymnastics so they don't really know anything to judge. They can't have judges from Russia/Romania/China/US just because of the nationalities of the competitors. Then again....gymnastics isn't really a "sport" persay cause it's subjective. In any real sport there is a clear winner, this is more like a competition than an actual sport, IMO. |

Well doctors are over-happy prescribing depression/ADD medicine these days and they told my parents to give my now 18 year old sister ritalin in the 2nd grade because she had a hard time paying attention. Now she is a great artist and in college and she's smart. Pshhh "ADD my ***". Oh and the all time dumbest one, is "If you want to get drunk mix alcohol and codeine/vicodin/cough medicine, and its great." Sounds like a recipe for accidental death to me... |

Original Post by ciscpsammie: 1. Locate the capslock button + turn it off 2. I will not recieve social security, and my parents probably will not either. Privatizing it is the best way to go, since the tax money that I am paying is now going to people buying vacation home in Tahiti, and I will NEVER see my tax money. If I could spend my tax money and put it into a separate account ensuring that I can obtain the money I spend for it, and every worker does the same, we wouldn't have the problems that we will soon be having after the baby boomers suck the funds dry. 3. Affordable health care does not = good healthcare. Norway, Sweden, etc have great healthcare systems that are socialized. Norway and Sweden also have considerably LESS people than the US. Universal healthcare would be a DISASTER. I have Kaiser Permanente right now, the main medicare/medicaid insurance (my dad's work pays for it, and we used to have a great private practice) and guess how long it takes before I can book an appointment....for MY personal doctor, a month. If it's an emergency 2-3 days. This is how it will be for EVERYONE. 3. McCain is for stem cell research 4. Calling McCain a bible thumper is pretty ignorant...he is not a part of the religious-right, unlike the Bush's. Jeremiah Wright anyone??? At least McCain's pastor isn't a complete nut job... |
