Weight Loss How do you deal with other people's comments on your weight? Mar 14 2008

chaotic idealism, i totally know what you mean..I've been fat all my life and I've always felt close family, mum and dad included, have commented pretty nastily on my weight all life..when two years ago I dropped down to 60 kilos (pretty dramatic considering I'm 5-7 and have a large frame), through starvation and bulimia I must add,  people seemed a lot nicer and treated me like I had won the nobel prize..I've done some much cooler things than losing 30 kilos..I've gained about 5 kilos since and the nastiness and mean comments have returned..I've beaten myself up a lot over body issues thanks to my family and friends but there is a point when you just shut out these people completely..my husband, my personal trainer and my boxing coach are the only 3 people I discuss food, exercise and progress with now and only because I run marathons now and need to watch exercise and nutrition. If i dont look like my anoerexic sisters or cousins that can't really run a mile on a slow treadmill, then I guess I'm really happy with that!

Fitness muay thai?? Anyone do it! Feb 06 2008
21:18 (UTC)

muay tai is great..i used to do it at a martial arts academy, if you have access to it, definitely try it although you'll be very sore the next day!

lilly42, muay thai is the way it should be pronounced in thai, but most of us non asians pronounce it as mai tai because of the english language..

all you muay tai fans will also like body combat, a 50 minute muay tai, tai chi, power aerobics type class set to some top cheesy 80s music. If interested look for your closest club at www.lesmills.com

Hey guys.. I have a similar problem, yet not middle of the night cravings but just being hungry after the sun sets (I can eat twice my morning amount in the evenings)..

On another note, I was trying to not eat carbs for a while but like always, the 3 days following a 2 day low calorie, no carb, no sweets cycle are always chocolate and lollies filled!

I'm now trying a more sensible approach by eating oats in the morning with fruit, salad wraps for lunch and salad and cheese wraps in the evening. I snack on fruit, nuts and the occassional yogurt and have a low fat hot chocolate from the office vending machine once a day. I feel a lot more energetic now and the spells of nausea that i suffered from have signifcantly come down..I'll let you know how i track on the scales though!

Thanks for that tip although the boys at the gym (buffed and training at the time I was there) swore I'd see immediate results with target training! Is it true my weight will increase with more fat converted to muscle..I certainly fancy being a 4WD Chevrolet Rally sport :)

I went to the gym yesterday and instead of doing my usual 45 mins on the treadmill I decided I wanted to do some weight training. There was one machine on which I did about 30 reps yesterday with low resistentce (the lower the resistence, the harder one works). This particular machine attacks fat on the back and shoulders (my biggest weak points) and boy do I feel it today!!!! how does everyone exercise to optimally lose weight?

Ur1_2talk, I know what you mean about gaining 2 pounds, I gain and lose between 2-3 pounds on a daily basis (if I weigh myself end of day, I'm at my heaviest and lightest at the begining of day). If it is bothering you, my advise is set the treadmill up at the highest speed you can run on and then weigh yourself after 25 mins of running..you're guarenteed to lose 2-3 pounds!

Weight Loss Anyone in their late 20s?! Jan 17 2008

Hey everyone, my name is Jan, i'm 25 and weigh about 145 pounds. i'm looking to lose about 15-20 pounds in time for my first full marathon (in May this year)..I used to be about 200 pounds and consistently lost weight till I was down to about 135 last year..but I got married and moved in for the first time with my partner and the man size portions/foods have made the pounds creep back (and the pounds would not budge!)..I've always had a weakness for chocolate and ususally on a diet just cut out any form of carbs to drop weight..

I'm finding though that unlike the previous years, my weight stalls about 144 and refuses to budge beyond that point..

PS: how many of you find it hard  to watch what you eat because there is a man in the house?

thanks..I don't know if I want to go cold turkey just yet (considering I'm less than 5 weeks from my 1st run of the year)..a good rule to follow is to stay off all crbs on rest days and eat some sort of carbs on training days..what complicates it is that I'm vego and the fact that the tofu in England is very monotonous!

You're right, oats are a trigger so I'm best off staying away!

Thanks Ur1_2talk..that was so helpful..I really liked youre point about restricted chocolate intake, a tough 1 for someone like me!

I was going to ask..what's the verdict on oats, is it something to avoid as well as it is primarily carbohydrate?

Hey Kari..I’m glad there is someone else like me, my sister , who is incredibly skinny) eats bars of chocolate and nothing seems to happen to her (and she’s never exercised in her life unless sleeping is counted :) Whereas with me, the though of chocolate makes my waistline grow!!!

To tell you the truth, I don’t expect to see any change in my stats…reason being last Thursday was when I got off a punishing detox (and had lost 4 pounds as a result). I’ve been weighing myself everyday and as of Monday morning I was 2.5 pounds and as of this morning down 2.5 pounds going back to my last week’s weight! The only difference is that I’ve been working out since Monday for about an hour each night and hope to keep it up through this week/weekend, so hopefully, the next weigh in will prove more promising for me!

Hey guys, I'm not sure how many of you are like me..my body adversely reacts to carbs (unless they were carbs in veg or fruit) so I find myself instantly gaining weight/or feeling  stuffed! Since the Sunday blow out, I haven't eaten rice, pasta or noodles but today thought about nothing else but thai..so I indulged in a little pad thai to aid my training session tonight.

The surprising thing was that instead of stuffing the whole box (which I normally do), I ate about a fourth of the boxtill I though I was full but not stuffed and left the rest for my partner..I can't thank this group enough, I certainly wouldn't have the resilience otherwise!

Hey Kari, tell me me about it, I'm nervous as hell too..I find the starch thing a bit of a challenge too..I'm okay till about 6 pm and then the hunger pangs hit me and I head for the bread basket! I'm pleased though that despite the starch, I'm within my calorie limit!

thank you, that's really helpful, I'm hoping to burn atleast some of the damage from yesterday through my training session (we run 10 kilometers i.e. about 6.5 miles 3 days a week!

Monday-friday, I'm really good, i cook my own lunches of soup or stir fry and eat plenty of fruit and eat healthy when i get home..over the weekend though, my partner (who eats at the office mon-fri) eats all the foods i totally love (chips, chocolate, ice cream, white bread) and usually fills a cup for me and hands it to me as well..that's where things go astray, I lack the will to trash what he gives me!
