late again :)

limited internet access too.  had to turn in my laptop from my old job so i still have to buy my own so i'll have a computer at home.  anyway, quickly i'm pretty much plateau'd but it's mostly my fault.  i'm hanging strong around 137 but got down to 136.2 at one point.  it's hard - been eating out lunch daily, but working out too.  i need more time!

take care all gotta run

Hi All!  I havent had time to read over everyone's replies since last week (apologies!) so I'm just making a quick post.

Last week - 137.2

Today - 137.8 (maybe too much info but TOM so I'm happy with that) :)

Start - 149

So I started my new job Monday (here right now that's why I'm rushing) and I love it so far!!  Everyone is so great and positive here and there's a huge oppty to make some big $$. :) I honestly haven't really tried too hard at counting calories this week but I've been concsious of what goes in.  Hours are tough to get used to - 8 - 6 and it takes 30 mins to get there.  I've even managed to work out on my elliptical (not at the gym) twice this week.  Aside from that this place is very active.  There's a small gym, locker rooms, full baskeball court and bike storage on-site.  Everyone here runs, plays ultimate frisbee, basketball, whatever you can think of during lunch and after work hours sometimes.  It's great and helps to motivate as well.

So with starting a new job, SuperBowl, UNC/Duke game, and timeofmonth all in the same week - I only gained .6lbs which may even be waterweight for all i know - it was a good week.

More later but I hope you all have a great weekend!!

Happy Saturday Everyone!!  I'm 12 hours late :) Congrats to you guys on your losses!!  Amayou, Brett, Kirsten, Joelle, all of you did so great!  And Brett that's awesome - one of many more milestones to come. I'm happy for you.  And Kirsten, I like that idea about the teddy.  I never put a swimsuit on when I started counting calories b/c I didn't want to see it but I'm thinking about putting one on soon just to see the progress.  I'm going to order from VS as soon as I get to 135.

So weigh in was good.  My pounds seem to be coming off slower and slower lately (less than a lb per week but every little bit helps)  This week was good:

2/1 - 137.2 lbs!! down 1.2 lbs

last week - 138.4 lbs; start weight 11/26 - 149 lbs

Yesterday was my last day at work.  I got pretty sad over the last couple of days b/c I have been at my company for over 3 yrs and made some really good friends in the process.  I'm definitely down and out about leaving but I'm looking forward to starting the new gig on Monday.  I went in and cleaned out all my crap from my office. :( Everyone went out to lunch to my favorite sushi place and then we migrated to the bar across the street from the office after.  They actually made me cry and some of them got teary eyed too.  It made me feel good to know that they would miss me as much as I'll miss them.  I went to a friends house after and we had more drinks.  It wasn't a good day for the alcohol consumption but I didn't have a sip all week long.  Any big plans for the Super Bowl?? We're having people over and making all sorts of yummy (not healthy) food :) I can't wait.  I'm having what I want on Sunday, no calorie counting.  A present to myself!  Have a good weekend all!!

only a few things are on that list...but stick with fruit, maybe eggs, and toast.  Stay away from fried foods like bacon, sausage, etc.  maybe even try an omelet.  if you get waffles or pancakes - easy on the syrup or fruit compote or toppings.  easy on the butter and easy on the jam.

thank you everyone for your congrats!! i soo appreciate it, you guys rock!

jmc1221 - i can relate.  it's easier to be good during the day but once you get home you just wanna hang out on the couch and eat whatever's available. it's tough!!  you've come to the right place though.  this group is great and everyone else's successes motivate me to meet my goals.  first of all - if there's 'bad' food in your house, the food you end up binging on...get rid of it.  if it's not there, there's no way you can stuff your face.  make healthier choices when you go the the grocery store.  you can make delicious food that's good for you.  as far as exercise goes i think everyone's different.  i do better outdoors or at the gym (with a friend helps). i have weight, bosu, elliptical machine, etc in my house and rarely used them.  i do now if it's cold but you've gotta get yourself into a routine.  after the first few weeks you'll almost feel bad if you don't exercise.  i have to do it right when i get home or it gets skipped. you'll start to like it more and want to.  good luck, i know you can do it!!

mr313 - you've done great so far!!  16 lbs is a great start, especially if you have more to lose.  it may take a bit more to see results or to feel your clothes fit differently but you will get there!  think about it this way though...you've changed your habits, you're eating better and losing weight.  you are healthier and your body thanks you for it.  it will start to show i promise! keep up the good work and keep your chin up!

scarter17 - don't worry about the 3 lbs - it is probably just water weight retention.  one weekend of eating not as great and drinking won't put on a permanent 3 lbs.  i do that pretty much every weekend haha, and i am still steadily losing.  remember, it takes 3500 calories above what you burn to gain 1 lb of fat...it's probably just a little water weight in your case.

rosterhome - welcome!! glad you could join.  it sounds like you're off to a great start and have a good workout plan in place. congrats on the first 6!! that's awesome!

sorry this is so long...but anyway...i am leaving in a few hours for my ski trip so i won't be around friday.  so here's the weigh in results:  1/24/08 - 138.2lbs.  start weight was 149.0. last Friday's weight was 138.6 so i'm down barely, 0.4lbs :) i'll take it.  hope you all have a good weekend!! i'm NOT calorie counting this weekend! yay for a break!

Hi Everyone!!  Sorry my post on 1/19 was so short and to the point and sorry I've been missing! :)  Looks like you guys are doing great!!  I'm managing, just had tons going on around here and was lax about posting.  I've been on here but haven't posted on any thread.

So the skinny - I've gotten down to a newest low 138.4 lbs and am aiming for 135 in the next 2 weeks.  Just posted in my journal - my skinny jeans fit!!  I've been somewhat at a plateau but not totally.  No drastic loss, slow, very slow at times, and steady.  I've been lazy working out lately but still sticking to it.  The next few days will be serious and I'll be working hard on working out.  I'm going skiing this weekend Thurs-Sun, with 2 full days of skiing and tubing.  Good exercise and loads of fun w/ a crazy group of 11 peeps.  PLUS the biggest news that's kept me so busy and away from here --- I've accepted a job offer!  I've been at my current company over 3 yrs so it will be a big change.  I start Feb4 and it will be a drastic change of pace.  I've been working from home alot, travelling some for work but not much lately, working out whenever I please and pretty much doing what I want when I want.  New job will be in office every day 830-530 working my tail off so I will have to be more diligent about exercise and getting to the gym.  Weekends will be a must and I will do trial/error as far as early AM or PM after work or dinner exercise goes.  A good change of pace for me but will be a culture shock!!

You guys have been such a motivator.  It's so great to get on here and read up on everyone to see your successes.  When I'm feeling down or lazy I read some posts on here and think well if they can do it, so can I! Get off your butt, Brook!!  Whether you all know it or not you are always inspriational.  And Kirsten - love the quotes!  I'm a bigggggg lover of quotes in general and so I'm diggin' it.  Ok, promise to be better about weigh-in and posting.  Happy Jan22 everyone ;-)

I just wanted to say thanks for this post.  I have been doing well with a target of 1500 cals/per day but never even knew what a BMR was, much less how to calculate it.  My BMR is 1443 using the equation you gave so luckily my target calorie intake # was above that.  It is great to know this new info though, especially considering that quite a few days I've gone under this number.  It also tells me I NEED to exericise :) to get the better deficit.

I'm definitely a fan of the 100 calorie thomas' english muffins. with an egg or eggwhite and a little bit of cheddar cheese. sometimes instead of an egg i'll have a tbsp of peanunt butter or a bit of strawberry jelly.

also special K red berries w/ milk is super delicious and 110 calories/cup of cereal

a couple of days late but when I weighed Fri I was up .6 from 139.4 midweek to 140.0...but weigh in last Fri was 140.2 or .4 so I guess weekly I'm down a tiny bit.  Either way - maintain is good, especially considering the amt of partying I subjected myself to this week.

welcome to all the newcomers!! there are tons more of you :) yay. i'll have more time tomorrow to catch up on the thread. congrats to the losers this week! and the maintainers, and to those who've kept up the good eating and exercise. the results WILL come!

yes, please disregard some of the insensitive comments :) those were not necessary.  i agree with many of the people in European and other countries - we have a very high drinking age and many would argue that it inadvertently encourages underage and binge drinking. most of us have been there at some point or another so you didn't do anything evil or terribly wrong.  if anything, you were much more responsible previously than many of us who went buck wild at earlier ages like 12 or 13...luckily you just had a bad hangover and some experiences to learn from. and i hope you had a good time in the process :)

some other tips, especially with a low tolerance - don't mix alcohols. stick with just beer or just wine or just liquor or if you switch, dont go back and forth.  champagne and wine always seem to affect me differently, especially the next day.  drink plenty of water.  take a couple of advil before going to bed....and fast food, greasy food is great for hangovers.  if you live in the south and have a bojangles - chicken biscuit combo w/ fries & sweet tea.  and a gatorade. miracleworker :)  just be more concious of how much you are taking in and how its making you feel.  alot of alchol quickly will catch up with you quickly and hit you like a brick wall

oh yea, and alcohol poisoning - ive heard that if its to the point where you are sick (throwing up) that technically that is alcohol poisoning...just more minor.  it can be very dangerous and many have died/had stomach pumped/rushed to hospital, etc so be careful.

Motivation Drink a cocktail almost every night? How do I let it go... Jan 03 2008

that's been one of my biggest obstacles too...its just what i do...but sometimes a couple glasses of wine would turn into the whole bottle in the process of cooking and eating and hanging out after.

i've been doing better by trying to just have a drink 2 or 3 days instead of every day.  and then just having one glass of wine, 2 max.  and drinking plenty of water.  it does suck at first b/c its not what you're used to but it becomes more natural.  it's kind of nice.  one of my biggest successes was going OUT to dinner and drinking water only.  i knew i conquered myself. at least your drinking lower cal drinks though...wine is great, liquor w/ diet soda is great b/c its only the liquor that contains calories.

Foods New Year's foods -- What do you eat for good luck? :) Jan 03 2008

I'm from the South too (North Carolina) and its very specific :) My grandma always fixed the meal but I never really ate it though - I always think I bring my own luck!

The idea in the South is to have a New Years Day meal to bring you luck, good health and money...Black Eyed Peas with a dime cooked in them for luck, collard greens for money and Pork (Hog Jowls if you can bear it and ham if you can't) for good health, funny enough!!! Gotta have corn bread and you gotta use bacon for extra seasoning. :)

Hi everyone, and Happy New Years!!! Did you all have fun over the holidays?? We ended up having people over for New Years and partied til about 7am - can't be good for the diet! So I battled stepping on that scale and won - waiting til Friday, phew. Hopefully good news.

amayou82 - congrats on maintaining through the holidays!! that's a huge accomplishment.  and you're close to your goal so that's awesome :) one thing though - this site, and others, suggest that the bare minimum amount of calories you should consume per day is 1200.  your body needs that much to function properly and healthy.  if you stick to less than that over time it could have a reverse effect - your body realizes its not getting enough nutrition and starts storing fat rather than burning it.  you just dont want your body going into starvation mode and hindering your progress...so stick to at least 1200 and you'll do great!  plus they also think you should keep the deficit to 1000 or under.  harder to track maybe but makes sense.  good luck to you and welcome!!

invictus - welcome! whens your birthday??

vrjensen - its tougher when you dont have a support system around you but it doesn't mean you shouldn't keep trying.  it's up to you and you alone to do what it takes to reach your goals, with or without the help of friends/family.  make up your mind what you want to do and make sure you do it.  my friends are the same...thin/healthy/and tell me i look great and dont need to lose weight. i dont live near my family so not an issue but the boyfriend is sometimes supportive but not exactly.  i guess i just do my own thing...i make the food i want and if they dont want it they can get something else.  pick healthy alternatives at restaurants.  theres a good site that you can look up calorie content at most restaurants - very helpful!! so you can plan your meals ahead of time and still go out with friends - http://www.dietfacts.com/fastfood.asp.  check it out! also, the friends are coming around now - they've started to see visual results and have even somewhat gotten a bit motivated themselves.  so keep trying and dont give up!

I was sick over Christmas and didn't go to gym from Friday to Thursday.  I went this morning finally and worked hard.  I was kindof lucky I was sick over the holidays, helped me control myself b/c I had no appetite.  I had to force feed myself to get enough calories.  Hope everyone had a great weekend and after...

and oneis2many - based on what people have said on here many times, more than a 500 deficit is ok...just wouldnt go more than 1000. it may be good to eat a bit more on workout days. and i'm sure one day, even 2 of low cals is ok, just dont make it a habit right?

agreed on the spa treatments - great idea!

i would definitely steer away from clothing in general.  women's sizes are all over the place by brand and you definitely wouldn't want to offend.  risky!  jewelry is sometimes a safe bet (all women love jewelry for the most part) but if you're just starting to date i don't know.  it depends alot on cost/what you want the gift to say, etc.

i think the spa idea is great, and them maybe a nice dinner??  good luck!

I guess I could publicly post about this (deep breath) :) but I have had this surgery.  I have not had children and I am 26.  It was 100% a personal decision and 100% cosmetic.  I had no medical reason for the procedure.  I basically wanted bigger breasts. :) Vain, sure some would say.  It's not about them though right?

BUT this isn't an overnight sort of decision (or shouldn't be) for anyone.  Definitely weigh the pros and cons.  Due your due dilligence to research everything!  Risks, doctors, references, etc.  Discuss it with your husband more.  A great idea would be to go to a couple of consultations (bring hubby along).  Ask TONS of questions.  You will learn alot and be able to better make an informed decision.  Do not do anything you don't feel comfortable with and don't rush a decision (on the surgery or the doctor).

As for my personal experience - I researched the procedure and surgeons for over a year.  [[Be sure the surgeon is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.  Be sure the facility is accredited by AAASF.]]  Had the procedure done 11/30/06. Went from an avg B to a largeC/smallD.  I did not have any complications and have not had any issues since.  ((the b/f was worried/hesitant b/c of the risk so I understand where your hubby is coming from)) In fact, I'd make the same decision again.  I love them. :) The first few days were the worst but I was up and moving the second day.  I was doing 'normal' things within the first week.  You shouldn't lift more than 15 lbs in the first month and it takes about 3 months to fully heal and to look how you should.  *note- there will be strange changes in the first month or so but they are normal.  I feel now as though they are part of me, not something added so that's nice.  I can lay/sleep on them.  I work out normally.  I don't do anything differently.  Shirts fit fantastic.  I recommend it but only if it's for YOU and only if you make an informed decision.

I will also say that over 1/2 of the before/afters and patients in general at the place I went were in their 30s/40s.  Many were mothers who lost breast mass after breast feeding or weight loss.  Hope this helps.  Feel free to message me privately if you have questions or want to chat. :)

Weigh in Day! :) or :( could go either way.....First of all - I went through most of yesterday ('til around 9m) thinking that it was Friday and today was Saturday.  wow!  But it's Friday now, so I guess I'll be #2 to post weight.

12/21/07 - 143.4 (UP 0.8 lbs, hopefully in muscle mass)

[[EDIT: actually, I did lose.  I weighed at the gym w/ clothes earlier, silly me, and just did the naked weigh in on my own scale, the one I always use, before showering - hellloooo I LOST 1.8 lbs!!  I'm at 140.8 lbs. - woohooo, even checked 3 times to be sure]]

sooo 12/21/07 - 140.8 (down 1.8 lbs from 142.6)

FYI - start weight= 149 (11/26); goal weight= 120-125; targets - 1500 cals in/burn 2500/exercise daily w/ one day off

Good luck to everyone!!  Be strong over this weekend and the holidays!! Indulge a bit (we all deserve it) but not a ton - A BIT! :)  Happy Holidays and all that jazz!  Ohhhh and Kirsten, thx again for starting this...it's caught on huh? Welcome new peeps
