Hi everyone! Hope it's not too late to get in on this. I've never personally lost 10lb in a month, but I'm definitely up to the challenge. I stopped counting cals about 2 months ago due to a hectic work schedule (lots of traveling/stress) and gained back around 6 of the 10lb I had lost. Boo. But I'm back in town for the forseeable future and NEED to get my butt back in gear. Best of luck to everyone!

I didn't make 148 this week, but I am feeling better than I was. Think it was mainly the hormones. I also had a good couple of workouts this week so that probably also boosted my mood. Anyway, I'm finally going on a much needed vacation so I probably won't be back until next weekend or so. We're going to a rollercoaster park so I should be doing plenty of walking. I'm so looking forward to a break!! Talk to ya soon!

Jennifer

P.S. Congrats on the 3lb loss in a week! That's amazing!

Wendy,

Good job, girl! 14lbs is so awesome!! I didn't quite make 148 last week... forgot about the ol' monthly visitor. So I weighed in at 150. Blah. We'll see what this week brings. I am back on track with counting calories and exercising. Minus the period, I'm feeling pretty good today. I've decided to cut back the alcohol to one day a week (which I've already been doing) and only 6 drinks max. For me, that's not alot. A typical one day a week binge is like 12-15 drinks. Yikes. I think it's a realistic goal. I'll be back on Friday to weigh in. Hope you're doing well! Congrats again!!

Grr, need to vent. I know I've been absent through alot of this month, and I'd just like to say that work has kept me traveling pretty much since I started this challenge. I'm finally going to be at home for a little while (hopefully) and I just wanted to apologize for not sticking to the plan I set out to follow. I'm not gonna lie, it's mostly lack of self control on my part. I could've done better, I just didn't. Now I'm starting to see that a little weight is creeping back on (fingers crossed it's just from the mass amount of beer I drank over the long weekend). Still fitting into my jeans so hopefully it's not so bad, but the image staring back at me in the mirror is looking a little "fuller" these days.

I want to get back on track. I'm tired of the weight loss stalling and even reversing. I didn't work this hard to screw it all up.  So I'm vowing to get back on track starting tomorrow. Back to counting cals and cutting the alcohol down ALOT! Maybe if you guys are interested, we can start another challenge. Although I wasn't able to see it through this past month, I really need to give it another try.

I'm going to weigh-in on Friday and hope to meet a goal of 148lb. Should be pretty reasonable considering I'm probably holding a pound or two of water. Blah.

Pardon the rant.

Tasha, how much water are you drinking? I noticed a big difference in my energy when I started taking in at least half my body weight each day in water.

I was working in Key West... I know, I know, rough life. Haha! It was a blast. I'm going to be out of town next week too, and I think I'm just so far removed from my home right now that it's messing with my diet. Does that make sense? I'm very particular about that kind of stability, ya know? Either way, I'm not gaining weight back. I just would like to start losing again. I was feeling great before all this traveling crap.

Ah! May I rant for a moment? I slipped effortlessly into my one size smaller jeans this weekend! I just decided to try them out to see what would happen, and I ended up not even having to do the pants dance! (you know what that is) That's all. Hope you have a lovely week. I'm going to try to weigh-in this Friday, see if I can't get back on track.

Hi ladies! Long time no chat!! I'm back from my trip now, and am very disappointed to report that I didn't exactly stick to my plan. Not being on my laptop everyday really screwed up my discipline. Although I didn't gain any while I was gone, I also didn't lose. Now it's TTOM and I've put on 1.5lb which I'm hoping is just water weight. Of course I'm also giving into all my salty/sweet cravings. Either way, I've got to get refocused, and I do intend to. I'm going to have to reevaluate my goal for this month. Sorry to disappoint, and I hope you are both doing much better than me.

Hey ladies,

I just wanted to drop a few quick lines to let you all know that I'll be going out of town again for a few weeks. I'll try to check in when I can, but it may be a few days before I get a chance. Take care and I'll chat again soon!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! That's the best story I've heard in here in a little while! How embarassingly fantastic!! That totally sounds like something I'd get myself into. My friends actually get let down when I don't get crazy drunk because they love seeing what I'll end up doing. Jerks! Haha!!

Anyway, welcome to the forum - a place where we proudly embrace each other's drinking hobbies!

Pregnancy & Parenting PreNatal Vitamins Apr 14 2008

Well, I would start taking them because we were thinking of trying for a baby in the summer. I heard that taking them a month minimum before trying to get pregnant is good because it helps build up the folic acid in your system. I had a friend who also took them after she got pregnant until her morning sickness got too bad from swallowing pills. Thanks for the reply, and yes, the pills I have are the good ones from the doc. Still curious about the weight gain issue though...

Hi ladies!

I'm down .5lb to 148lb this week! 4.5lb more to go! I came off of my period at the beginning of this week and had a little trouble letting go of the weight I put on during this past weekend. Haha, it was the first weekend off the bet and I put down about 10 drinks on Saturday night. And here I thought I was going to lose my tolerance! Dang!! Guess not. Either way, I'm taking it much easier on the drinks this weekend. Also, I'm going to be heading down south during the latter part of next week so I'll try my best to post next Friday, but I can't make any guarantees.

Wendy, kudos to you! I'm so happy that you're doing so well. How much more are you wanting to lose? Just curious.

Liz, good luck with your goal. I know when I USED to be at my goal weight, I'd always go up and down with the same 4lb. Do you drink alot of water? If not, that might help flush out whatever water weight you might be fluctuating with. I'm no expert, but I can tell and see (on the scale) when I'm not drinking enough water. Stupid water weight.

Anyway, hope you gals have a fab weekend! See you next Friday!!

idajoon:  Sorry to hear about you "falling off the wagon," so to speak. I'm about to take a trip to Florida for a few weeks, and I'm so afraid of undoing all the great work I've done over the last few months. Last time I went down there, I came back 3lb heavier. Bleh. I know we just gotta pick ourselves up and start over. Why is it so hard to lose yet so easy to gain? Damn the bastards who designed it that way! Haha!!

Nat: Congrats on passing your test! Now, this is for what?? Pardon my asking, but I'm not too civilian-savvy on the jobfront. Hehe. Good to see you're cutting back on drinking. Funny... I say good now, but a month ago, I would've given you major crap for cutting back. I've made alot more progress since I cut back my drinking. Man, I miss those drunken work nights. :(

Hope everyone has a great weekend! I'm going to my first baby shower tomorrow! It was pretty fun buying cute little bebe clothes. (uh oh, haha)

Hi ladies,

I have a question that is slightly different, but about prenatal vitamins. I was taking them before I joined CC and then stopped because we decided to wait on babies, but we're probably going to start trying this summer. Now I'm into a pretty good diet and exercise regiem, but I'm wondering, has anyone gained weight from their prenatal vitamins? (minus baby, of course) I'd like to start taking them a few months before I plan on getting pregnant, but I'd also like to keep losing weight before I get pregnant. I have a prescription called Ethex, if anyone is familiar. Thanks!

I just got finished with mine. The first day I gained 1.5lb. By the end, I was down 1.5lb lighter (total of 3lb) within that week. Then the weekend came, and I put about 1.5lb back on. I'm almost back into losing my weight for the week now. Dang fluctuations.

Ooh, Vegas! I've never been, but one day I'd definitely like to go. Hope you have fun on your trip. What I do to get just a few extra cals is those 100 calorie packs. They have just enough for a little snack, but it'll help keep your calories up, and they're quite tasty! You just have to limit yourself to one pack, not 3 or 4! ;)

Weight Loss Anyone ever tell you that ur BIG BONED? and that u will never be SKINNY? Apr 08 2008

There have been a few times in my life I was told that I'd never be skinny...

First time was in 8th grade. I was on the swim team, and the coach told my mother and me that I'd 'always have a weight problem no matter how much I swam and exercised.'

Second time was just recently when I was talking to a girl at work about pregnancy. She started to say 'well, since you're big---... no offense, but you have a layer of fat so ...blahblahblah.'

I don't really give a damn what people think. I have a hard enough time having confidence in myself that I really try to filter out what other people say. I'll take the compliments, sure, but it's just not necessary for other people to point out your 'flaws.' (unless you ask for an opinion, of course)

People. Ugh.

Liz: Haha, I'm so glad that I'm not a fan of sports! People can get so into those things! Unfortunately for me, part of being around the people watching sports means I need to entertain myself, which for me means drinks. It's pretty much a lose-lose situation either way you cut it when you're trying NOT to drink. :) Good luck to you though!

I like to do weigh-ins on Fridays. Sound good?

heather: Geez! I can't believe he did that!! Anyway, one thing my husband and I like to do is make our own pizzas. You can buy the premade crusts at the store and then top them with marinara (not so high-cal and very heart-healthy) and whatever toppings you guys like. We like to make mediterranean style with kalamata olives, onions, garlic, artichoke hearts, and maybe a little chicken and feta cheese. It's really tasty, gets you both involved, and shouldn't kill your diet efforts. How's that?

Shin splints wouldn't cause pain in the calves. The first time I really did a serious calf workout, I had excruciating pain for days. I could literally barely walk. That is the ONLY time they ever hurt that bad though. The muscles are small so one intense workout can really break them in.

If it's muscle pain, heating pad and pain killers. Try elevating your calves too with the heating pad on them. That has got to be one of the worst pains to have. Hope you feel better soon!

*wendy*  32lbs is so awesome! You should be very proud of yourself.

*liz*  Ok, I'd really like to do some sort of challenge this month, but I can't really do the no eating out thing as I am going to be away from home starting next week for almost 3 weeks. It's just gonna be impossible to keep from eating out. HOWEVER, I might be able to do something like since I have to eat away from home, I can only have salads/fish/grilled chicken (and of course keep counting cals). Since it's just you, me, and Wendy, we can create individual weight loss goals.

Here are my goals w/ stats...

AGE 25 / HT 5'2.5" / CW 148.5 / GWbyMAY16 143.5

- 5lbs by May 16th

- Alcohol ONE day a week within moderation

- 80oz of water a day

- Limit eating out to only salads, fish dishes, or grilled chicken dishes

What are your goals gonna be???

ksj2:  That is a pretty rough bet. No drinking and no going out?!! What do you do with all that free time (and money!)?

Would you guys like to start up another challenge for April? Maybe just a simple weight loss challenge. I think I'm done with the absolutely no drinking thing. Although I did enjoy several drinks on Saturday night, I woke up Sunday morning and felt kinda like the weekend was a waste. It's amazing how much a night of drinking will suck up your time off. That, and I didn't clean my house at all. Bad Jennifer, bad!! I did like feeling that I had the option to drink though.

Hi ladies! I thought you guys had left me. Well, I suppose I kinda abandoned my drinking buddies on CC too though. :( BUT I'M BACK! The bet officially ended on Friday, but I decided to celebrate on Saturday night. Haha, and I learned that not drinking for a month DID NOT lower my tolerance. I still had my usual 10 drinks, woke up the next day with a minor headache and kept carrying on. I was reminded of how darn fast he weekend goes when you pass out drunk on Saturday night though. Boo... I did not want to wake up this morning.

Anyway, glad to see Nat and hasta again!!

harmy40:  I put in all of your numbers on 'moderately active' and it looks like you're doing everything right. Your weight loss may be stalling from eating too few calories though. Since you already lost the bulk of the weight you'd like to lose, you might find that by maintaining a smaller deficit (ie eat more cals) might get your weight loss going again. For me personally, I lost the first several pounds by eating around 1200 cals a day, then I kinda plateaued. I up'd my exercise and starting eating around 1300-1400 cals a day, maintaining a smaller deficit of 500-700 per day and now I'm steadily losing weight again. I know it sounds a little backwards, but amazingly, it works. I'd try eating 100-200 cals more this week (everyday) and see if it helps. Let me know!

*drum roll* My final weigh-in for this challenge is 148.5lb! That's a total loss of 4.5lb for the hellaciously long month that this has been. It's not 10lb, but I'm pretty darn happy about it.

I don't think you posted your original weight. What was your total loss for the month?

By the way, I'm spending my first weekend night officially off the bet sitting in front of my computer sipping WATER! Man, I've come a long way since March 7th.

heatherx33:  On a typical day, I have...

Breakfast - either a SF or calorie-equivalent energy drink (yes, i know it's not healthy, but i'm a caffeine junky)

Snack - usually nothing except 32oz of water throughout the morning

Lunch - decent-sized salad, a lean meat (mostly chicken), and either another vegetable or a starch if I've had a good workout day, and I ALWAYS have a nice glass of 1% milk

Snack - meh, I'm really not a snacker, but when I come home I always snatch up 1-2 butter pecans for a boost

Dinner - usually a pre-packaged dinner (i LOVE the kashi ones!)

harmy40: Hmm, I see where your confusion comes from. I believe that the link basically calculates the weight loss if you eat your BMR. I input 'a little more active' for my activity level which is what determines your RMR (don't know what that stands for though). The difference between the BMR and RMR is your deficit which determines how quickly you will lose weight. I use the numbers from that link in comparison to what CC says and try to find about an average between the two to follow.

If you give me the information that I asked the OP for at the beginning of the forum, I may be able to help you out.

I've heard that you should drink half your weight in ounces. You'd be around 70oz or so. I weigh around 149 and drink 80+oz a day. At first it was tedious, but now I love it... actually feel really dried out if I don't drink as much.

And your welcome! I try to help! :)

Check out this site:  http://www.phord.com/cc/index.php

I plugged in your info based on working out 2-4 times a week. It says if you're eating 1335 cals a day and burning 1922 cals you should lose apx 1.17lb a week. It's a neat site and it's a little more accurate with the numbers than CC is. Are you drinking enough water?
