I think you have stumbled on the concept that you don't need to "stay motivated" after a while because you actually LIKE the healthy lifestyle better and how your body looks and feels when you follow it. :) |

| Foods | Can I just skip the olive oil and eat high fat foods? | Nov 11 2009 21:13 (UTC) |

you don't HAVE to eat olive oil to get your fats... nuts, seeds and avacados are great sources of healthy fats so if you prefer those sources then eat those. |

you can substitute applesauce or banana for the oil/butter, use fat free dairy products, egg whites, sugar substitutes, and whole wheat flour to lower the calorie content and improve the nutritional quality. This will change the taste/texture a bit though. |

technically it would "work" its just not as practical for everyday living as eating 6 times a day and also probably not much more effective, if any, for the trouble its worth to eat 16-20 times a day. And I disagree with merly, it is not just about calories. If you eat 2000 cals in one sitting compared to eating it spread out over 6 meals you will not see the same results due to the effect on your metabolism. |

| Fitness | Yoga what's your take? | Nov 09 2009 15:14 (UTC) |

I think yoga is a great addition to a comprehensive workout routine. I think doing it in combination with cardio, interval training, and stregth training creates a really balanced routine with enough variety that you don't get bored. I do yoga once a week and really love it! As far as doing it for weight loss, as melkor said , diet is key. If you eat more than you burn and do yoga you will not lose weight. If you eat less than you burn and do yoga you will lose weight. |

I struggle with binge eating too... I just started this book http://www.amazon.com/Four-Day-Win-Achieve-Th inner/dp/1594866074 It makes a lot of sense to me so far. The author has a degree from Harvard and has herself struggled with and overcome a binge eating disorder. Its really long and I haven't finished it yet but I just thought I would suggest it :) |

2000 cals should be plenty for you to lose weight with that kind of exercise. Plus, teens have a higher metablosim, in fact there are special burn meters for teens that factor this in, you willl burn more cals than adults on this site natrually. I am about your height, 5 years older but I can lose weight on 1800 cals easy. Plus the key thing is it is MAINTAINABLE. Stick with your instinct of 2000 cals and just be patient, there are no quick fixes/easy answers. :) |

| Weight Loss | Whats your daily exercise and eating regime!? | May 11 2009 14:56 (UTC) |

Depending on what I do I spend anywhere from 45 min - 2 hours at the gym. Usually more like an hour fifteen. I prefer to to in the evening but I really just go whenever i can fit it in becasue I'm pretty busy. I used to go every morning at 5:30 am, I think I might have to go back to doing that this summer because I am going to be working long hours and late nights so if I don't get it in early it prob won't happen. Just have to find what works for you. :) |

I'm 23, 5"8, 129 lbs, 16% body fat. I eat anywhere from 1700-2100 cals a day (try to anyways, usually slip up and eat more once a week or so). I workout 6-7 days a week. I lift 4-5 days a week and do some kind of cardio everyday whether it be a spin class, HIIT, disntance running, rowing machine, or the stairmaster. Try to eat 30-40% of cals from protein and only eat low GI complex carbs (vegetables, whole grains). That 80 min you spend biking could be spent much more productively if you spent half of it weight training and the other half doing high intensity cardio. -- just a suggestion :) |

I eat sweet potatos all the time, they are so good for you and very filling. Just a warning though that most sweet potatos found in supermarkets are very large. Most are 250-500 grams, making them 200-450 cals each so make sure you are measuring them. |

hey hun, I remember reading your journals before, glad to see you back on here! No worries about the weight gain, it happens to the best of us. I remember re- gaining 11 lbs last year.. you just have to break out the fat clothes and get back in the gym! I'm back down now and feeling great, you will get there too and then just look back on this as a learning period :) RE: cheap/healthy food - black beans, brown rice, tuna, broccoli and sweet potatoes come to mind. :) I buy frozen veggies and frozen fish all the time, pretty cheap. |

Here is what my day looked like today.. sometimes it just helps to see what other people eat bfast - 1 med apple, 1/2 cup oatmeal and 1 cup egg whites lunch - huge salad with ton of veggies and spinach..3 oz of canned salmon on top, no dressing just because I don't really like it but you could add it pre workout - greek yogurt w/ 1/2 scoop of whey protein and frozen fruit post workout - cottage cheese and peanut butter on a slice of wheat toast dinner few options.. usually I'll do fish or tofu and veg. Tonight I'm doing a chick pea ragout on baked polenta. Baked sweet potato, black beans, cottage cheese and roasted broccoli is a fav too.

I'm veg too.. cottage cheese is a great protien source! I think some brands taste kind of funky though (friendship... ew). Hood non fat is good. My two fav ways are: 1. put it on a baked sweet potato with black beans 2. mix it with PB2 or peanut butter and use as a topping for a whole wheat english muffin... or just eat it plain. The PB gives it a much creamier texture.. so good! |

I used to be just like you. Get off the treadmil and get into the weight room! Seeing abs are simply a function of having low body fat. For a women, you will show abs at around 15-18% body fat or lower. Building mucle is essential and all the running you are doing is actually counter productive to your efforts. See: The new rules of lifting for women. |

Hello :) I'm 5'8.. currently about 130 and a size 2-4. I used to be 155 size 8-10. Now I buy jeans at Guess and Express mostly. They are on the expensive side ($100ish) but for me I'd rather have 1 great sexy pair that fit than 3 pairs of high waters that don't fit my ass right! haha. |

Original Post by folkharpist: This isn't true, your body actually does not need sugar at all. Cutting out sugars, even natural ones, can help you feel more satisfied. It sounds like your trainer has you on a low GI diet, since grapefruit is a low GI food. Eating foods with a low impact on your blood sugar helps you stay satisfied off of less food, making losing weight easier. |

I take pre-made sushi for lunch a lot that I buy from Trader Joes. Today I made a big bowl of filling for wraps. I used a can of tuna, can of salmon, chopped artichokes, onions, cucumbers, tomatos, and olives. I put that on a low carb wrap with fresh spinach and greek yogurt. Making a big batch of wrap filling saves a lot of time in the morning. |
