You may feel better after reading mine even though this is not helpful for you. I am 5'2" at 205 and have been stuck there for months now. It is like no matter what I do, I can't lose kind of thing. I have been really good with my eating (counting every single calorie) for a month now (for the 100th time) and have been exercising without a fail for 3 weeks now. I haven't dropped a single lb. I am much shorter than you and much bigger than you. I am miserable and honestly trying but no luck yet. I am trying with upping my calories this week and down it next week and see if that helps. I don't know if the similar strategy would work for you also. I am not successful with that yet so I can let you know couple of weeks from now. I pray that atleast I can go under 200. I am not doing anything wrong. No sweets, only healthy choices for eating, writing and counting calories and exercising. The same exact happened last time also and after months of trying I gave up. I am logical and it doesn't make sense to me that how this can happen. Eating less than required should result in weightloss in my simple mind. I don't know if I should just eat way lower than what I am eating. I am tired and frustrated too. I am sorry but please don't give up and I am sure you will see a positive result. |

I have the same problem. Once I start, I can't stop. I feel hungry often even though I eat well balanced (protein, carb and fat)...I am really trying this time with portion control and also not to crave so much about food. My schedule so hectic and I get very little time to exercise also. In general I eat very healthy (with loads of vegs and fruits) and I don't eat cheese or any deep fried etc. I am a vegetarian but my problem I guess was portion control. I am having such hard time loosing weight but I keep telling myself this time that I will give it atleast 6 months instead of giving up. I love this site and all the people for their great success stories and for the encouragement they provide. Since I am not a success story yet, I don't have any advices. The only thing I will say is 'don't give up'. |

kaufmkk, I just saw your gallery and you look absolutely amazing. Unbelievable. You look beautiful. All of you who lost 10's and 100's of lbs are a great inspiration to me. I will try harder now. I have been a failure story so far and I will be ashamed if I didn't try harder. I am having hard time to keep myself motivated all the time especially where is not a lot of time to concentrate on myself. I feel ugly and I want to hide from public these days. I have never felt that bad before so may be that will keep me motivated. I haven't lost any yet I have 80 lbs to loose to get to healthy BMI. Please wish me luck. Congratulations to you all who have lost. Sorry for not contributing any for stretch marks. I do have a lot on stomach mostly from pregnancies and I am sure from weight gain also. |

you guys are awesome. All good suggestions. Either eat less for other meals or no rice and just beans and vegs and salsa or eat less guacamole. Thank you so much for quick responses and good suggestions. Next time I will order it without any rice and half guacamole and it should be still good with those yummy black beans. Hmmm....Sodium part, I forgot about that. I guess I can't eat there often.......may be once in two weeks or 3 weeks. |

Thank you all again for all the wonderful tips, receipes and ideas. Yes, I am short, I am 5'2" and weigh around 208 lbs. So short and labeled as 'severely obese' based on my BMI. medveditsa, it is amazing that you lost 70 lbs in 14 months. I just can't imagine if I can ever do that. I have been utterly failing in weight loss and I have always been a vegetarian. I think I must be consuming a lot of carbs and that must be the reason why I ended up with that much weight. My general food habits are not that bad since I do eat a lot of fruits, vegs along with rice and bread. If I can atleast go under 200 in a few weeks, that will give me motivation to keep up with it. I used to exercise atleast 5 times a week last year and I was around 195 and as soon as I stopped going to the gym regularly, I started to gain back the weight. I have been fighting this from a very long time but never was able to successfully fight back. I went through a lot of blood tests to find out if I have any thyroid or hormonal issues since I was staying around 1500 to 1600 cals and working out atleast for 45 mins at a medium pace and still wasn't able to loose any weight. I just started back with atleast 3 times/ week (last week was first) and hope I can keep up with it. I am determined (again for the 100th time) that I can do this with the help and encouragement from wonderful and inspirational people like you. danaofdoom, dovelette, Thanks for all the tips. Yes, I am a vegetarian but not a vegan and I will start paying more attention to the grocery lables. I have a very busy life style and by the end of the day I am tired and I must be eating a lot without realizing I am. I am trying to write down every bite from now on. I am an Indian so I usually make a lot of vegetables with a lot of spices eat with whole wheat tortilla (from Kroger) or eat with rice. That is my favorite food. I made a bean sprout salad for snack for today and I had a banana yogurt smoothie with protein powder this morning for breakfast. So far I am doing good. I soaked lentils this morning so I can make the lentil soup for this evening. Yesterday I consumed 1450 cals (again couldn't stay within 1300). I can't wait to make the soups you all mentioned. |

Wow, thank you all so much for your wonderful ideas. All of them sound so good. yummy_kitty, I will certainly give a try to these noodles and I actually do cook tofu with regular noodles. liswobble, yes, I eat dairy but no cheese. I heard cheese has rennet so I gave up that almost three years ago. Cottage cheese sounds like a great idea. I tried that once but didn't like the texture so never gave a serious effort to get used to it. CC recommended that I eat 1250 cals to reach my goal in a year and half. That is why I am trying stay within 1300 cals. I do eat iron fortified cereals and high protein and low sugar protein bars etc. But those bars are high in sugar and carbs etc. and they are relatively small, I try avoiding those because they don't satisfy me (again the volume issue). I use a scoop of 'gensoy protein powder' in my cereal etc for additional protein in addition to dairy and legumes. I will try the protein shake and soy milk. Yes, I am also thinking about making soup with lots of vegs and may be with some lentils etc. and try that to see if it will control my hunger any better. haifley, the way you wrote about the apple and the cheese sounds so delicious. I guess I will have to go and shop around to see if I can get 'rennet free cheese' or 'organic cheese'. Thank you so much for sharing. njasmin77, we live in Texas. I will check the link and see if they will ship. Thank you so much for all the ideas. I am feeling satisfied after reading all the ideas and encouragement from everyone. I hope this time I will stick with it and make some progress and it almost seems like I have no choice because I am afraid now that I may be diagnosed with diabetes or something and I am already border line with hypertension. |

Thank you so much for your response. Even though I would like to stay within the budget but weight loss is more important to me. So yes, money no object. I have never heard of those noodles. Are they frozen? fresh? where can I get them? regular grocery store? I do eat high fiber foods (such as oatmeal etc.) but since I don't eat most of the filling foods or hunger resistant foods such as string cheese, puddings or any gelatinated foods etc. it is hard for me to figure out the low cal, vegetarian friendly foods. |

I recently found out besides the gelatin in the yogurt they also use an extract called cochrin (may be misspelled) which gives the reddish color to the yogurt (like strawberry, rasberry or any pink or red colored drinks and foods). This extract is made from dead bugs which feed on red berries I think in South America. The stomach of the bugs are used to give the color to the food. Yuck. What a shame. It is almost impossible to find out these details if they are so hidden with extracts etc. Also, the red color on cheetos (red hot flaming cheetos) and also some other frito-lay products contain beef. One of my friends called frito-lay company and they confirmed that also. I used to love eating yogurt until I found out about gelatin, gave up on cheese because of Rennet, no marshmellows, no icebreakers gum and so many more. I agree with oriental vegetables or rice which use animal broths and also mexican food with lard based tortillas and the beans etc. I buy Amy's frozen lunches which are totally vegetarian and free of any animal products. They are really good except for that they are a bit expense and also they are high in fat. I wish there are frozen lunches with low cals, low fat and more affordable. |

Happy New Year to everyone. I have been off from cc because I was fearful of logging my calories. I hope I didn't mess up that bad but definetely wasn't counting so I am sure I ate a lot. I haven't even weighed myself in the past two weeks. I think monthly weigh-ins may be too long of a gap and it may be easy to slip in the middle. How about every two weeks? Welcome sakuragreenlily. |

| Weight Loss | For those who are watching their carbs - what is you daily goal for carb intake? | Dec 22 2008 23:07 (UTC) |

I consulted a dietician and he told me not to exceed 150 gms per day. 40 to 50 gms seems very low. Even fruits have carbs in it so anything we eat is carbs even though the more obvious ones have more such as rice and pasta etc. I am around 200 and trying to loose a whole lot so even for that he told me 150 gms. |

Cool! a vegetarian buddy for me. Thanks novileigh for the tips. I will try barley also and see. I have never done Quinoa so I should try that also. I have eaten 1000 cals so far and hopefully I will stay within my 1500 cals goal. We have a lot of parties during the next few weekends to I need to be careful and plan my eating in advance. I still haven't made it to gym yet. Have a great weekend! |

Thank you teenerqm. May just one more person. 5 should be good and easy to keep up with. My short term goals are to keep the rice away from me and limit eating sweets to a bite size. I am a vegetarian and a rice eater. I grew up eating rice. I love sweets. Yesterday my husband brought the pecan pie and I did good with eating just a bite. I used to exercise a lot but lately I have been very busy at work so I stopped exercising so getting back to it for 3 days/ week is another short term goal. |

I loved reading this post because I always wonder how to log for Indian food also. I am an Indian and everyday I struggle logging my calories because it is very hard to estimate. I agree with several others on the top that an 'Indian buffet' would be atleast 1000 cals if you eat even a small portion of many of those things from the buffet. They put rich cream, butter and oil in most of the gravies and curries. Rice itself is a very high calorie food. Someone said above that I usually go through the few Indian dishes available in CC list and pick the related item. I am almost thinking this is the reason why I am not able to loose any weight because not knowing I may be eating high cals. I cook at home and most of the time I prepare plain vegetables with less oil and seasonings and recently switched away from white rice. But still, I struggle to log the calories. I would love if there is a way to log the cals accurately for all the Indian food. I am desperate loosing some weight. |

dptvas, Thank you so much for the suggestions. I truly appreciate the quick response. I will certainly follow and hopefully notice a difference. I have given up rice for a month in the past (a year ago) and didn't notice any difference in weightloss but that was long ago so I will certainly try and see. As part of the fitness challenge program I have been climbing 50 to 60 floors of stairs every day. In addition to that I have been walking, elliptical, bike and or doing weights. But may be 5 weeks is not that long in the big picture. Yogurt and fruits with cheerios does sound yummy. I will try and thanks for the encouragement and suggestions. Yes, that's right it you started with questions but now giving advice. You should feel proud. |

Hi everyone, Let me share my experience. I have posted this once before and got few suggestions which basically I was following all those before. I am 5'2" and weigh 204 lbs. I am a vegetarian and I have made changes over past several months in regards to eating more protein etc. in addition to the fruits and vegs I eat etc. The only thing I eat on a regular basis (3 to 4 times a week) is rice. I eat only whole grains, oatmeal and whole wheat tortillas etc. everything within limits. I have been exercising atleast 3 to 4 times a week for an hour and one of those days the strength exercises (like weights). So far I have only lost 4 lbs. I am so frustrated and don't know what to do. I have had my thyroid checked and few other tests also and the doc and the personal trainer can't figure out anything wrong. I wrote everything I was eating and they didn't have any suggestions. OK now, from past 5 weeks I am doing a fitness program (eating very, very healthy and drinking lots of water etc.) and I have been working out a minimum of hour to hour and half every single day (for 5 weeks now). Guess what, ZERO loss. Everyone that started with me had positive results. I went through all the calculations as eating less (starvation mode) or eating more and all that. The only thing I do bad is eating rice but without that I am not able to survive because I was raised eating rice every day. Any suggestions from the wonderful people like you would be great. I hope I can figure out how I can loose. dptvas, you are doing great. Slow and steady will win the race. |

| I agree with demila. I have been doing since November and have lost only 5 lbs so far. 1200 cals, exercise, water, mini meals the whole package. But I agree with everyone that 4lbs in a month is a great weight loss especially when you don't have a whole lot to loose. I have a looooooong way to go. You have done good. Good job not giving up. It crossed my mind and I am giving it two more months before I give up. But giving up sounds so dumb... | |||

| Thanks to you all for the responses and the great support. You all rock. I was eating 1500 cals a month ago or so and wasn't loosing weight and I was scared that I was eating more and I tried hard to get down to 1200. I was exercising also when I was eating 1500. It is so strange. One of my dear friends lost 40 lbs with 1200 cal diet and she was at 180. She said most of the days, she didn't even go above 1000. She lost it in 6 months and have been maintaining for about 4 months now. I have been at 202, 203 forever now. Just don't understand why it is so hard to loose 2 or 3 lbs. I haven't taken the measurements so don't know if it is muscle but can't imagine the weight not showing a change. Clothes doesn't feel like there is significant difference, may be a bit better. My friend also reviewed my logs and she said, she just doesn't know what to say. I have walked during lunch for 20 mins and took stairs to 12th floor. I have been doing the stairs very regularly for 2 weeks now. I am so scared of increasing my calorie count. But I will hang in for some more time (2 months) if it still doesn't show any difference, then I give up. I can't imagine doing this for the rest of my life with no result. I do the treadmill, elliptical and the bike. I have lifted weights this week. Thanks once again for your wonderful support. | |||

Hi everyone, Rockinmama, imhoff thanks for responding. Sorry for not responding, I was not online in last few days. Busy at work. It is great to hear the accomplishments. ase_t and amheint congratulations. I have been doing really good with eating and working out. I am not exceeding 1200 cals even though cc says I can eat 1550 based on my goals. I worked out 6 days last week avg 45 mins/ day. I am able to run for about 7 mins now on treadmill. I feel good but still there is no weight loss. Consulted a nutrionist and the trainer at gym and they can't pin point on my food. I am putting effort to drink lots and lots of water. Two weeks in a row, didn't cheat for a single day also except for 2 bite size candies this morning. But I promise to myself that I make up, I will work out this evening without a fail. It is so hard to keep the motivation without seeing the weight loss. I am worried about the teamlunch on friday and don't want to cheat. Thank you all for the wonderful motivation. I just don't know what I am doing wrong that I can't drop atleast few lbs. |
